Spice India in Melton

First time visiting this lovely restaurant. I have a peanut allergy and so trying a new Indian restaurant is quite a scary thing as they usually use nut oils to cook in,I was reassured that things are kept separate and indeed I didn't have any reaction. The food was absolutely delicious.all really fresh. The service was really nice and there was a good atmosphere in the restaurant. Also the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back with friends and family.

Great food and outstanding service. At spice India you are well looked after and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

We were visiting Bottesford from the Southeast, hoped the previous review about cooking from a book was slightly harsh and decided to give the India Spice a go - possibly the worst ‘curry’ I have ever tasted. Or rather, not tasted - that is the problem, the food is not reminiscent of any Indian curry I have ever eaten. It’s more akin to a packet of Uncle Ben’s rice with some sort of bland sauce covering it. I have genuinely made better curries myself. This restaurant makes the supermarket’s own brand curry offerings look 5 star. Save your money and instead, take a short drive to Grantham where there are authentic Indian restaurants.

Cold called by them. I have never used them so there is no way they would have me contact details legally. I can't imagine that the rest of how they run their business is any better.

Whoever is managing this business has no idea what a proper take-away curry looks like or tastes like. My twenty years in West Yorkshire tells me that these guys are working from a book and have no understanding of value for money. Insisted on payment in cash at the door, always an indicator of something suspicious. Once bitten, twice shy.

Never again. Food, if you call it that, no meat so if you want expensive flavoured rice, this is the place for you.

I had a leaflet through my door inviting Us to order food to be delivered. I wish we had not bothered, rubbish food. Bin was full

Ordered on a Saturday evening 5.55pm, we were told 1 hour, no problem. At 7.55 rang them to see where it was, an apology and were told it's en route. Finally came at 8.15pm - stone cold king prawn dhansak amongst other dishes. Presume had been round the villages prior to Grantham delivery. Totally unacceptable.

Alarm bells started ringing when the takeaway ordered for five people failed to arrive ,it eventually arrived 50 minutes late the incompetent driver had ignored precise directions to the property and had been driving around the area pointlessly The poppadoms were crushed into tiny segments the rice was an inedible mush and the mains were poor quality , overall a waste of money

Service very poor due to short staffing, 2 meals in a party of 5 were very disappointing. Told to go the the supermarket around the corner for cash as they did not accept cards. This was not discussed until we received the bill and is a joke in the current Covid climate. Would not visit again.

Once again the quality of the food was outstanding, salmon tikka and tandoori chicken curry - and with all the extras, and delivered even earlier than expected ! Fabulous service and satisfaction once again ! Thank you ! Peter and Gill Allen

Simply divine. Couldn’t ask for better service and the NAAN!! Was the best out off all, really plump and soft. All the food had come in time and was simply outstanding. I recommend people go in groups.

I don’t usually go to Indian places because of my chilli allergy, however my friends wanted to try some curry so We chose spice India as none of us had been before. The staff were super friendly, seating us and placing napkins on our laps. I made the staff aware of my chilli allergy and they were more than happy to cater for me. I asked for a plain prawn and rice dish. The same dish I order at the only other Indian I go to. I really appreciated their effort and general customer service. The food was all beautifully presented, with heated stations in the middle of the table for the curries. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my dish as they had made it just for me. It looked stunning, however there was no rice and it was 4 prawns £12.95. So I was a bit hungry when we left. Other than that id say maybe the price is a little high - some Indian cuisines come with the rice too. I’ve attached some photos of the food so you can see the presentation. The chef also gave us complimentary onion bajis.

The order turned up 45 minutes late and had missing items. When reported to the restaurant they offered to give it free next time! There won’t be a next time! With so many takeaways around am amazed how lapse the service was! Avoid at all cost. Worst of all the food was over cooked and tasteless. All went in the bin.

Service was excellent, ambience okay and my wife, who chose Indian cuisine, thought the meal excellent – I, not liking spicy food, went for the sirloin steak (it was rather dry and boring) and, at pud time, the dark chocolate option (also rather dry).So this note – and the reason for the two stars – is not about the food or service but the fact when it came to paying the bill (presented in a box, typically Indian style – into which I placed a fiver for excellent service) and laid bill + credit card on the table, we were then told it was cash only.There was absolutely no hint of this when we went into the restaurant (indeed, I hadn’t realised it was Indian until we sat down and were given the menu – I thought it was the Rutland Arms’ restaurant as that was the sign outside. My wife did say we could go elsewhere, but we’d been on the road for a long time and it was time to stop).This is 2019 and one expects to be able to pay a restaurant bill by credit card – very fortunately, I happened to have enough cash on me. Why, if it was cash only, were we not told as we were shown to our seats? One wonders the ulterior motive. Anyway, as they say, you have been warned.

We popped in here on our way to collecting our daughter from the airport in a sunday evening. The service and staff were excellent as was the food. We will definitely go back again and enjoy this restaurant when we have more time.

Although the food we did receive from our order was lovely, we had a terrible experience with service. I ordered a takeaway for myself and 8 other family members. It was a big order on a Friday night so I was told it would be an hour an half until it was delivered. This was perfectly fine as we expected it due to it being a take away and restaurant. We were promised two free bottles of wine and two portions of popadoms free with our VIP card and the fact it was two birthdays, which was a nice incentive. However, when the food turned up, an hour late, the only vegetarian dish we ordered (for the veggie of the family) didn’t turn up and we were missing a couple of naan breads. We accepted the mistake with it being a busy Friday night, however when we rang the restaurant to deal with the missing dish we couldn’t get through. We tried calling over 40 times in a two hour period from various phones to find out where our food was and they didn’t answer. The phone kept ringing out. We are going to continue to try to get in touch to get a refund for the food we didn’t receive. Overall not happy with the service, as the family member couldn’t eat anything but rice and a couple sides due to being a vegetarian. I do not recommend this place and I will not be using it again.

Went to Spice India last night with ex work colleagues for our regular curry. We chose to have the Monday Special 5 course menu @£10.95 each. It was excellent!

Turned up an hour late, no call , no refund etc ! Poor service and average food ! Don’t order with these guys !

Spice India has a very welcoming owner and staff are very attentive at all times. The food is always well presented and tasty - never had cause to complain. Lovely atmosphere too as nearly always full and good conversations going on.

Excellent food with a wide and varied selection of dishes to choose from. The staff were extremely friendly and the manager was excellent.The only negative, as commented by others, is that we were told that they only accepted cash despite there being signs around the credit cards were accepted. As others have commented, if their card reader really has been faulty for 6 months they should fix it or say on their promotional material that they do not accept credit cards (which is a bit of a joke in this day and age)!

Ridiculously bad service! Over an hour late, when called to ask where it was when half an hour late they said it was being bagged up and on way, half an hour later still no sign! To late to order from anywhere else. New baby at home and just wanted a quick takeaway and off to bed doesn’t look like that’ll be happening!

After paying £20 for a 2 for 1 enjoy card we decided to take up the offer at Spice India. The food was very good, beers on the expensive side but overall good service and an enjoyable meal. Until it was time to pay for the meal, the waiter came over and I had my credit card ready and he said could he ask if it was ok to pay cash as they had a problem with their machine. I said no that was not ok and he immediately asked did we want to see the manager (also the owner) and we said yes. It was clear that this was not a surprise and he wasn’t going to deal with the situation.

We went for a meal on Monday evening expecting it to be quiet but the restaurant was really busy so a great atmosphere. The food was amazing great quality and taste and great value for money. The kids even tried something different and really enjoyed it. Maz was rushed off his feet but could still not do enough for us and everyone else in the restaurant I don't know where he gets his energy from amazing.

As commented by many other visitors the quality of the food and service at Spice India leave nothing to be desired. However a word of caution concerning payment.

Am not generally a TA reviewer but felt this was the best place to report on the facts of a pretty poor job this evening.

First time I have used Spice India and very impressed by the meal for 4 with a discount for using the loyalty card. Will be back soon and intend eating in next time.

We decided to try this wonderful restaurant on a Tuesday evening, we was greeted by a very polite members of staff, the place was immaculately clean, our friend is a vegetarian so he decided to have a chief special sea bass which he said was amazing, the rest of our party tried the chiefs special chicken curry and the special prawn balti, all of the meals was excellent, very well presented and tasted wonderful, we was all delighted with all the excellent food and service we received, this Restaurant is very highly recommended.

Good atmosphere. Great food at a reasonable price. Service with a smile. Recommend a visit to this restaurant which is in a lovely village setting in the Vale of Belvoir.

Made to feel very welcome The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious well cooked and well presented. A good varied menu. Good value for money.

We were in Notts on Friday evening and fancied a curry. Spice India was recommended to us so we drove out to Bottesford, a lovely village in the east of the county. The restaurant is annexed to a traditional English pub. We were warmly welcomed and service throughout was excellent. Poppadoms and a sharing place of starters, followed by a very tender lamb sag, chicken madras, served with paneer, dhal, paratha and peshwari nan. Portions are generous, so we left 1/3rd! With 2 g&t;'s and 2 tonic waters, the bill came to £57, which was reasonable. There's only a small carpark so be prepared to park up on the streets nearby.

We went out for a Valentines meal tonight with our two children and had the best meal ever. The service was outstanding even though they were fully booked. The presentation was amazing, my rice was even in the shape of a pyramid. The children had the tandoori chicken which is something they have never tried before but both said it was amazing and will be having it again. My husband had the Tender Lamb Tawa and I had the Spice India speciality but changed the sauce to the Tawa sauce as I am not keen on the Masala sauce. Thank you Mas and the team it was a truly special meal see you soon.

Our local favourite. Great team and always a warm welcome. Food is really well presented and good portions. The chef specialities are different and a great way to try something away from the ordinary. Drink selection excellent also as attached to the local pub so good choice of draft beers. Great quality food for really reasonable prices.

We ordered a takeaway. My dish was very bland and consisted of 50% big chunks of barely cooked onion which I couldn't eat. One item was missing and wrong drink delivered - these were delivered 15 mins later. On a positive note the garlic naans were tasty and the delivery guy was friendly and polite each time. We have ordered food from Spice India on previous occasions and each time something has been missing and the food has been bland. We have also eaten in the restaurant on a couple of occasions and the food has been very nice and the service impeccable. We won't be ordering a takeaway from here in the future.

New to the area and had a takeaway. Excellent friendly service, good Menu and threw in some freebys as it took longer than expected. The restaurant was busy, and seemed to be some good traditional looking dishes. Would recommend.

Great choice of dishes (hot spicy or mild and fruity)and a friendly team that can help your selection. Have good deals and member of VIP card scheme. Attached to Rutland Arms so you can sit and have pint in there whilst takeaway being prepared. Give...

Nunca mi orden! Pedimos lo mismo cada vez que he estado, pero todavía no el éxito en lograr que lo que pedí la primera vez. Esta es la última vez que se ordene con usted, grosero por teléfono, pésimo servicio y comida de buen corazón. (encontré un cerezo en un glaciar con tikka masala, una crema de nata UHT su valor turã stico de la pasta de coco en una llanura como 'peshwari naan y tienda comprar bolsas de ensalada! ! ! )

Tenía para llevar desde aquí en fin de semana y quedé impresionado con la calidad de la comida. Las especias eran correctas en el balti, masala y roghan platos josh. Gran poppadoms y chutneys. Sin duda, inténtelo de nuevo

En negocios familiares cerca, me comí un par de veces en el transcurso de una semana. Me doy cuenta de que la evaluación de alimentos está sujeta a gustos personales, pero tengo que decir que estoy impresionado. La selección de entrantes es muy buena y recomiendo el pescado, calamares y shashlick pakora paneer chili. El pescado en platos está bien preparado y las tres son bien sazonado. El chingri sizzler es un plato agradable de conchas en salsa de langostinos en una muy buena y tanto el cordero tikka jalfrazi y el cordero tierno jalfrezi están bien hechas y del grado de las especias. (tiendo a probar un cordero jalfrezi en un lugar nuevo, ya que me da una especie de marca de banco).

En esta ocasión utilizamos especias de la India para entregar a casa. La calidad de la comida era muy por encima de la norma para llevar curry. Podíamos probar cada sabor y estaba claro que la comida había sido preparada con esmero, con hierbas frescas y especias. La entrega fue rápida y la comida caliente a la llegada. Botella de vino! (estándar para pedidos superiores a un cierto valor). He comido en muchos restaurantes indios en la zona y yo clasificaría esta comida como el mejor de todos.

The outside of Spice India is rather unprepossessing, but inside, the restaurant is well presented - all the tables were immaculately set and the lighting was low. The staff were charming, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food they were serving and as equally delighted when we enjoyed our meal. I was a guest of friends, and although I don't usually choose to eat Indian food, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the food and will be returning! The complementary vegetable pakora were delicious and beautifully presented, and my Lamb Tikka Pasanda was lovely and creamy.

Very good food, good feel/decor - nice and cosy, excellent owner who is very friendly. Delighted to discover they deliver too! We're an instant convert after our first visit.

Although the food may be alright if you eat in think again before ordering for delivery. Three hours from order and still no food!

Beaucoup de choix dans chacun des plats, un service très attentionné qui vous apportera des assiettes très soignées. Ce repas indien improvisé en solo s'est très bien déroulé. Le nan ail coriandre était très bien cuit, moelleux et un peu grillé.

I have very often had a takeaway from spice India and my God they are amazing, I went last week to have a sit down meal in the restaurant with my partner and oh my gosh we are 100% going back to eat in absolutely fantastic!!! I love spicy food is an Indian food and this is by far the best I've ever had.

I was in 2 minds whether to score average or very good (seems to be a big jump from one to the other!). Anyway, I have given them the benefit of the doubt as I would have no hesitation in returning. Menu was comprehensive but the "recommended dishes" section was way too long. Pappadums were nice and fresh although the pickles were a bit on the ordinary side. Mains were good. Not the best we have had, but good nonetheless (note to restaurant: can you please not cut up the naan breads!). Some nice touches like the complementary pakoras when the waiting time between courses started to get a bit long. Appreciated the hot towels and complementary liqueurs too. Bit on the pricey side though to be honest.

This is a popular venue with a good reputation. We have dined there several times and not been disappointed. The staff are friendly and efficient. It has a pleasant decor and because it is usually busy the atmosphere is good. The food is beautifully presented. The starters are little masterpieces, very Masterchef! Not only good looking but very tasty. Chicken tikka chat is delicious! We were a party of four and everyone enjoyed their choice. The mains were very good. Mine was a little too sweet but that was more a wrong choice than the cooking. The naans are good, well puffed up and crisp of the bottom. The meal ended with a free liqueur which is a nice touch.Well worth a visit.

I had a lovely meal last night, made to feel very welcome, great service but not smothered! As a lady not afraid to dine out alone I felt very comfortable.

I read the great reviews, and received personal recommendation from friends, so looked forward to some outstanding takeaway. This was delivered, so I cannot comment on the restaurant. We were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The meat was overdone and chewy. And I mean really chewy. We left more than we ate. The rest was ok at best, mostly bland tasting. Not an enjoyable experience at all. One star so far, but I upped it to two stars because the nan bread was actually very nice, and the delivery guy friendly and smiley.

This has become my regular as its amazing. Great service, Mas and the team look after you and take a lot of pride in the whole experience. I have been here for takeaways... Deliveries... Visits as a couple as well as having a parties from 6 to 34!! NEVER been disappointed. The food is the best ever and presented so well. Mas and the team will adjust their dishes to your preferences and tastes. On subsequent visits they even remember your tastes and preference and recommend dishes accordingly. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

A well presented restaurant with warmth and welcoming. Convenient as local to me, for meals in or takeaway. Wide drinks selection including cask ale provided from the adjoining pub. Everyone loves mas the proprietor as he works hard and tries to please and look after everyone

The restaurant is very well decorated and has a good ambiance....the service is efficient and friendly....the food is excellent and a very good selection..

I ordered a curry for delivery but the card machine wasn't responding at the time so I said I would collect my curry from the restaurant. I went in at the agreed time of collection and waited at the bar for ten minutes before the staff finally came to the conclusion that they hadn't wrote down my order so they apologised and then led me that they would deliver my food within ten minutes and they wouldn't charge me for X3 poppadoms. 45 minutes later after no sign of any delivery I called and the phone was put down on me! Second time they said the driver had left 2 minutes prior and that he should be at my house now. I obviously complained about extremely poor service and it felt like they weren't bothered as they already took my money. Another 10 minutes later the delivery driver arrived with a Luke warm curry. Unaware how long I had waited. I said to him to get someone to call me straight away about a possible refund or to bring it back and to no surprise no one called by phone or at the door! This is not good enough and I don't see how any establishment could produce such poor customer service.

Spice India offers a fantastic menue for eat in and a very efficient take away service. Mas and the staff can't do enough for their guests. I've eaten very good Indian food all over the Midlands but this is as good as it gets. Why not try a pint of real ale from the adjoining Rutland Arms to swill it down!

Last minute decision for a family meal out. Excellent food, great service would highly recommend! Will definitely be visiting again.

We booked a table for two and had a very good meal with excellent service on a busy Saturday evening. Presentation of both, starter and main meal, was very good and particularly the starter looked spectacular. We've only been for the second time but well certainly not wait very long for another visit. It's so much easier than to drive into town and have trouble finding a parking place. Here, at Spice India, it's there right outside the restaurant. Highly recommended.

we eat at spice india on a regular basis only on the fact we cant find anywhere locally that can beat it. i had a lamb jalfrezi and my partner had chicken jalfrezi and all we can say it was the best curry we have ever had bursting with flavour, great attention to detail very clean and tidy. well done to mass and his team who always make you feel welcome and special. mass never ceases to surprise us with a complimentary dish off the starters every time we visit and a little tipple of your choice at the end of our meal. we are already looking forward to our next visit, definitely recommend.

Great food, great service and very good value. We have takeaways regularly and eat in too - never disappointed! Also try their partner restaurant at Elton nearby.

I had a lamb bhuna, it was bang tidy. He had something that I can't spell, but it was bloody hot and I took great pleasure watching him sweat....all in all, spot on...keep up the great work gents.

I live in the village and have used this restaurant for many years. From the start the food has been very good, the flavours can be determined separately whereas many Indian restaurants smother their recipes with oil and the taste becomes very uniform. Massoud, the manager and owner, is a delight and has an attention for detail in both service and the food itself. Nice touches include little "delights" between courses (samosas etc) beautifully presented at no extra cost and of course the final spirit "on the house" to finish off a superb evening. All this and very good prices mean excellent value and an evening not to be forgotten. Yes there are only about 30/40 covers so it's better to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Use this Indian regularly mostly for takeaway. .They will deliver if required and are always pleasent to converse with. ..Food good can't fault the menu..

Booking a table was easy, and on arrival we were welcomed and looked after by polite and courteous staff.The food was as good as it looked and each dish looked amazing. We would recommend Spice India to anyone wanting a lovely meal for any occasion.Thank you to staff and chefs for making husbands 50th birthday meal a perfect ending to the day.

An intimate restaurant with a different menu. What a change having Both Duck and monkfish on an Indian menu.All our food was well cooked, courteous service in a pleasant environment.Thanks we will return when back in the UK.

This place is a gem whether eating in or taking out, the staff can't do enough for you always very friendly. The food is always superb & cooked fresh so sometimes you have to wait but it's worth waiting for. Very reasonable prices too !

Went here for Nephews 18th birthday celebration. The restaurant is attached to a pub and quite small. We were on a table of 10 and dominated the dining room. However as there was only one other couple in there (it was a Wednesday evening) Service was laid back, but we were in no rush, so not a problem. The menu was different - lots of specials I had not heard of before, however there was a "regular" menu attached that had your classics on. I had a Chicken Bhuna - All of the food was hot, tasty and well presented. Everyone cleared their plates and all the food was eaten - then again we did have three ravenous teenagers with us! We even got a complimentary liqueur at the end as the host had spent so much. The Staff were pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. Highly Recommended.

Would not recommend, the room is small with a lot of tables making it difficult for the staff to serve, there were people queuing at the bar area for takeaway's coming and going, they were very busy and it showed ! The food was OK but the service poor leaning over you etc. But the icing on the cake was the waitress spilling a full pint over my friend at the beginning and the management showing no concern ! Accidents happen and my friend did not want to make a fuss but when we paid there was no compensation and the card machine didn't work !!! Should have walked out .

Have been having takeaways from this place for years, and can highly recommend the food. Service is good, the staff are friendly and the food is consistently excellent. Good value for money, I would highly recommend it.

This indian is set inside a pub, but still feels like a separate restaurant. We were seated quickly despite not having a reservation. The pickle tray and starters were brought out quickly. The starters are presented beautifully and taste just as good. The mains were also very good, with lots of favours and taste. Definitely worth a visit if in the area as this is very good food and reasonably priced too.

This is a small gem of a place. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Dishes explained to you and even made to your own tastebuds. Excellent value for money. You must visit.

I can't believe how everytime I order they somehow get it wrong,baring in mind, I live in the village and have given them chance after chance. I think they need to stay in Loughborough. I won't be ordering from them again

Had a meal with 15 friends, very slow on taking orders, over an hour before starters were served. When the food did appear it was worth the wait. I have also had a take out from her twice, both time was very tasteless and I struggle to understand why when eating in is so tasty??

My partner and I enjoyed a delicious and very good value meal-for-two here recently. Both curries - lamb tikka jalfrezi and prawn saag - were cooked to perfection and the side dishes were equally well done. The naan bread, in particular, was very tasty - light, fluffy and flavoursome. At less than £50 for two meals and a couple of drinks each, the price was right too...!

It was a wet day we went to spice india it may had been a horrible wet windy day but a lovely warm Indian meal . always the best service ever you can never fault the restaurant they adapt the meal to suit your needs there aim.is to please fantastic

My good friend and I visited last minute on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy but they explained if we sat and had a drink for 5mins a table would be ready. There was a large selection of curries available. We were told there would be a little delay in our order as they had a large table in but gave us complimentary spring rolls and veggie bits! Took left overs home, delicious!

I was pleasently surprised by Spice India. The food was delicious - everything was cooked to perfection! Unlike many places, the chicken was tender and succulent, the sauce was full of flavour but not too heavy, the naan bread perfectly done and the rice was also wonderful. Eating at Spice India made me realise that the Indian restaurnats and take-aways I have been to in the last couple of years are extremely average - the quality of food is just so much better at Spice India!! The service was friendly, and although the restaurant was full we did not have to wait long for our food. They also packed our left-over food up for us to take away - the portion sizes were generous and so we couldn't finish it all.I would definitely recommend eating here!
