Absolutely delicious! Best value curry that we’ve had in a long time. Far superior to the restaurants in Stamford. So pleased that we travelled a little bit further. Will definitely be back.

Came with limited expectations, as they previously owned a Melton Indian that could easily and accurately be described as abysmal. But I had sheikh kebab and a prawn puri. My fellow eaters enjoyed King Prawn Masalas with pilau rice and plain nan. Mineral water (dry January) and chapati. All for 60 quid. And it was decently prepared, well served. Well done guys

Great curry but check your order is complete when collecting.... Mine was missing the starter. just driven 15 miles home, opened our curry, no starter. Guess my onion bhaji's are sitting on the counter still. Won't be going back.

Current eating in Purple Garlic as it was recommended to the wife. Poppadoms and the chutney's were awesome. Onion bargji was really tasty. We also had veggie jalfrazi peshawari narn egg fried rice and the wife had a mixed thali which she thoroughly enjoyed. Fantastic service, easy relaxed atmosphere, excellent value for money portions and fine selection of beverages. We even got 2 complementary shots of Bailey's over ice and mint chocolate when we asked for the check. 1000/1000 its definitely a place we want to come back to again and a place you have too check out.

Fabulous, great food, lovely people, great atmosphere and reasonably priced, nothing too much trouble we come regularly, they always accommodate my picky husband!

Fantastic place, we stopped by on way back from a party one night and have been regularly ever since. Perfect for me and my husband, he likes spicy and I like mild! They have lots of options to suit everyone and the team there are lovely, very welcoming and really put themselves out. They now know exactly what we like even down to my husbands pinickity choices, they accommodate us. No complaints, love it!

In my family’s opinion this is by far the best curry house in Melton Mowbray, we’ve been coming here since they opened and they never let us down, the food is always spot on, full of flavour and very reasonably priced, cannot fault here at all, each of the members of staff are polite friendly and welcoming to the point where they know us by on a first name basis and what we typically eat, book in advance as it’s always packed out especially on a Saturday, 5* all day long, thankyou, Ash, Mars & Saheem

Came here for a birthday outing with my other half, and we were delighted by the warmth of the welcome and the quality of the dining experience. The food was wonderfully rich, with contrasting flavours and textures, delivered fairly rapidly by friendly and efficient staff. The menu is quite extensive with ‘curry classics’, alongside a plethora of exotic and original dishes – I think my hardest challenge was finding which one to select this night! I was not disappointed, but the experience left me wanting to return and explore the menu choices further! The restaurant environment itself as a whole is also a charming one, with fascinating décor and music pitched at the perfect soft background level. We arrived as the only diners, but this only gave the place a more intimate feel. As other diners arrived over the next hour or so, this only added to the pleasure of dining out. I shall certainly be returning to the Purple Garlic in the not too distant future. Thank you!

Love the food, having previously lived in Bangladesh having a really good curry is a must (and very hit and miss) I am always very happy and full after a trip here. They have great service, very friendly and round corner local beers to top it off. I'm local and it's on my top list of places to eat.

We went here last night as a party of six. Been twice before as a couple and whilst there was not much wrong with the food the wait for it was very long and very cold in there due to the air con. Last night was extremely busy. Very loud!! People waiting all round the bar for takeaways right next to tables of people eating in. They seemed to concentrate on the takeaways rather than the very busy restaurant itself. Only 4 waiting staff. We ordered drinks and one was missing. Poppadoms came with one tray of pickles which we had to pass around the table. Then we waited around an hour before someone came and took those away. Then another half an hour for our curries. Yet again a curry was missing which we had to ask for. We asked staff twice where the food was. One table behind us was waiting for two hours for their food. And I had to ask them to turn the air conditioning off too as it was freezing in there again. Don't even know what it's doing on in november! Although the food was lovely this will put us off going again. They need to get rid of some of the eat in tables and get an actual waiting area for takeaways and some more waiting staff.

Such a difference in opinions from previous reviews. My wife and I popped in on a whim as we are staying in Melton Mowbry for one night. We absolutely loved the food, the service was excellent and it did take a bit of time for our food, however, it was incredibly busy (Saturday night) and I guess the food was cooked fresh, we aren't complaining about this. The only reason I feel a bit ill is due to my eyes being bigger than my stomach, as I ordered too much for myself. If we are ever back this way again, then we'll pop in, though probably share, as the portions are of a good size. One way to tell if a place is good, is to see how many locals are eating there, which is one of the reasons we went in.

Just to make people aware this place has a '0' yes Zero Food hygiene rating given by the UK food standards agency! How Purple Garlic is still trading I will never know but I did not rate or enjoy my experience and the food wasn't great. The service was ok bit the made us wait a long time for food and its not somewhere I will return especially with a zero food rating for hygiene

On a three day road trip, Melton M was our first stop. In all honesty, the only thing that would draw me back is a nearby pub and the Purple Garlic. Food was exceptional, staff friendly and excellent service. All four of us can’t praise this place enough, we all left with food remaining as despite it being delicious, we could not finish it all.

The tasteless nature of the food provided made me look up their 'scores on the doors' rating and surprise, surprise as of may 24, it's 1 ! Fortunately, nobody suffered ill health after this poor experience. Note to self... check scores before eating.

Great place. Didn't have ingredients for my online order so they recommended a similar curry and they upgraded my starter to a main for free. The food was fantastic.

Went in just gone half past ten told me closed on Saturday night states open till 11pm this is a poor service - 5 normally great

First time we went and definitely won't be the last! Stopped on off chance and they happily accommodated us. Lovely food and attentive friendly staff. As if that's not enough it was all reasonably priced along with a complimentary Baileys at the end. Sadly though we don't drink Baileys but thought was there. Only negative was table of other diners getting a bit loud which is obviously out of their control. No problem people enjoying themselves but they could've been a bit more considerate to others.

What can I say best curry I had in a long time will definitely be back and reasonable prices keep up the good work guys

Love this restaurant. The food is always great quality at fair prices. There is a great selection of food and drinks. It has a great ambience - we've been as a couple and with our children and wider family and the staff always cater well to our needs and mood! The decor is nice and well kept, feeling like a treat out in an accessible manner.

Er how can I sum up this place. Let’s start with the positives food was great very tasty and really enjoyed however the service was the total opposite it was dreadful. We waited well over an hour for mains and I asked what cider they had I was offered Kingfisher. (Didn’t know they had gone into the Cider market) Then I asked again and another waiter snatched the pad out of the person hands who was serving us and basically told him to go away. Not very good in front of customers. I think the main issue is the amount of takeaways they were doing it meant the restaurant was falling behind… wouldn’t be in a rush to go back…

The food was the only redeeming quality of this place. Unfortunately, we didn’t get food until 10PM, it took an hour and a half and we were turned away when we arrived and told to come back in half an hour even though we’d booked. We could tell staff forgot about us as our food came straight out once we asked where it was and it was much colder than normal and people around us started to get their food when they’d arrived 40 minutes after us. No reduction in price or even an apology. Such a shame as food was good, one of the rare times that we haven’t tipped.

It’s OK. The whole dining experience was OK….. I have eaten in lots of Indian restaurants in my time, all over the world and have to say the food was very bland but well salted. We had a variety of dishes on the table but they were all pretty much the same heat and not that different in taste. That said the amount of salt in each dish was huge and as such became the dominant taste regardless of the dish we ordered. The staff were very good with us and although I waited 10 minuted after the rest of the table had their mains, they were very accommodating and apologetic. I wouldn’t rush back but that’s my choice…. There seems to be a lot of people who enjoyed their meals so perhaps we just hit it on a bad night ?

This is the second time I’ve been to the Purple Garlic & everything was just as good as the first time. Menu has a varied choice. Food is excellent & good value for money. Staff friendly, helpful & considerate. I can definitely recommend the Purple Garlic Karahi.

Had to place my order several times and when we came to pay they had charged us an explicable extra £20. When queried they apologised as though they had not done it deliberately. Disgraceful, they've lost a family of regular customers.

Can’t fault the food which was great, rich and spicy and decent sized portions. Unfortunately, having booked a table when we turned up they had no record but did get us a table after 25 minutes and provided a couple of drinks on the house. Unfortunately service at the table, whilst prompt was a bit rushed resulting in a bowl of rice being spilt on me by the waiter. Also, probably due to it being a Saturday night the place was very noisy with some obvious party crowds in. No fault of the restaurant obviously but would probably suggest visiting on a quieter day if you want a more relaxed experience.

Family of 4 adults, first time visit to Purple Garlic. We all enjoyed the food well prepared/presented and very good with excellent /friendly and professional service. We look forward to having dinner here again as we are a huge fan and enjoy the various curry dishes.

Travelling through Melton Mowbray from West Midlands we decided to book a table at Purple Garlic. We found the staff very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but soon got busy. Our starters and main meals were the best we have ever had. The chicken was cooked to perfection and gave our compliments to the chef. Standard prices and if we are ever travelling through again, we would definitely go back.

Great night out portions were good size. Great service

We have been visiting Purple Garlic since it first opened and it remains our favourite in Melton. The staff are friendly, the food is tasty and varied, and the prices are reasonable. We are always welcomed, and the staff will do whatever they can to accommodate you, but it is on the smaller side and does get busy, so it is worth booking at weekends. Our five year-old boy loves to go and they treat him like the most important person there. My personal favourite dish is the kofta capsila, which is chicken tikka wrapped in minced lamb, served in a bhuna sauce. The Purple Garlic Karahi is also well worth a go!

Recommended locally and the restaurant accommodated us for an evening meal at short notice. Courteous staff, with great Indian food, all served promptly. Happy customers. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing food, i think I had two of the best dishes I have tried. Honey chilli paneer and chicken tikka curry. The main I wanted something different so the staff recommended me this and it did not disappoint. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very funny, food amazing and the price not bad considering the quality of the food. Looking forward to going back there.

We had our first takeaway from Purple Garlic yesterday and it was delicious. Staff were friendly upon collection and our food was fresh and hot when we returned home to eat it. We will definitely return to Purple Garlic again.

We have been a regular user of this restaurant, we will not be using it anymore, we had a table booked tonight, we arrived on time, the place was mobbed, no chance of getting our table, we order drinks twice whilst we waited, none came, no apologies for their mistake,we left, not impressed

21st birthday meal and an 18th meal on two separate occasions, we had an absolutely beautiful meal here. Clean fresh table coverings and decorations. Great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful in accommodating our 2yr olds taste buds and were very helpful and responsive during our meal. The food is absolutely amazing and in good time frame. We will definitely be returning.

Just had our first takeaway from the Purple Garlic. Great food and good sized portions. A good curry should have lots of complex layers of taste, and as a guy who's eaten a lot of Indian food in his days, I can say that this restaurant does things correctly. If you are in the area, well worth a visit.

I visited here with my Dad and 2 siblings and we were very impressed. We decided to try this place as our usual favourite Indian has gone drastically downhill, but I think we found our new favourite right here. We all tried different dishes (there’s a lot to choose from which isn’t usually a good sign!) and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our food. Lots of flavour! The staff were all really friendly and helpful; one of the waiters suggested a dish to my sister as he overheard her saying she liked a sweeter curry. The prices are quite low too which is obviously an added bonus so all in all, I would highly recommend Purple Garlic.

If I was in India I would accept that the waiter couldn’t understand me but, in an Indian restaurant in England, I would have liked to be understood and to understand what the waiter is saying to us. There were only two tables being used so would have preferred not to have been seated next to them as there was plenty of space. Food was ok but not special and all sauces tasted the same. Very disappointing visit with our family .

Stumbled upon this nice clean restaurant - service is great and food is plentiful and tasty. Menu good - reasonably priced - two can get away with under £30

Best curry this year. Not from Melton going to a gig at the Noel's Arms. Amazing Chilli Honey Paneer followed by a Chicken Naga, Rice and Peshwari Naan. Superb meal followed by a great gig by Gun Money at the very good live music pub the Noel's Arms. What a great night!

Service was extremely slow - arrived at 8,20pm popadom and pickles came at 9.00am, main course arrived at 9.45 - 2 pints of cobra later! Food not even worth the wait! Won’t be bothering again as the service was the same last visit
