Spice Cottage in Malvern Hills

Pre-ordered at 2:30pm for a 7:30pm delivery. Rang at 7:05pm to check they had received my order and was told the food was on its way. Rang again at 7:45pm and I was told again the food was on it's way. It did not arrive until after 8pm and the food was freezing cold, the poppadoms were stale and the naan bread was also cold and very stodgy like it wasnt even cooked. Rang the restaurant to complain and was told the food was hot when it left the restaurant and there was nothing they could do. Will not be ordering from here again.

Prr Ordered at 14.30 at 19.05 they said it was on the way they are 10 mins away from our house after 8.10pm to come FREEZING COLD and then after ringing complaining they told us it was hot when it left the restaurant so it's not there fault...complete liars and horrible food never will I order from this horrible place ever ever again!!!!

POOR!!! After our order arrived over an hr after the said order was on its way it arrived and each and every item item was cold. Not one item was edible as contained rice and chicken. Shame that £50.20 was wasted on poor quality food. The poppadoms tasted stale, the naan bread where stodgy , rice clumped together and all dishes cold . It all went in the bin and upon calling refused any refund. Will not order from here again!

Visited the restaurant last night and had the eat in banquet deal which cost £12.95 each. This included, poppadoms and chutney, starter, main and rice or naan bread. Was great value and the food was delicious. I had the Goa Garlic Chicken, my son and husband had chicken bhuna and my other son lamb bhuna. For starter we had onion bhajis, sweet chilli chicken and tandoori chicken. Also had pilau rice and garlic and peshawari naans and ordered 1 extra side dish of bombay aloo. All of the food was very tasty and we enjoyed very much, would definitely recommend. Service was very good and friendly. Non alcohol drinks are served and if you want alcoholic drinks, you can take your own in.

We're staying in an Air b&b around the area and had our order delivered. So impressed, the food was lovely and arrived very hot even after the driver got a bit lost (not his fault, sat nav couldn't find our accommodation) Very tasty indeed! I had a butter chicken that was sweet and flavourful and my fiancé had a garlic chilli chicken that was really spicy, which he said it was how it should have been. We definitely recommend!

Went on a fairly cold evening and there was no heating in the restaurant, just one small fan heater!! Had to keep our coats on as it was so cold. It was the same the last time that we went, so they cannot blame a breakdown. I know that costs are tight but this is ridiculous. Food is good but we won't be going again anytime soon - certainly until the summer!!!

I'm really not happy. I paid for lamb vindaloo with extra mushrooms total £11:80. I reveiced vindaloo sause with maybe 5 mushrooms in it When i called to complain, I was told I ordered mushroom vindaloo. Well...if I'd ordered a mushroom vindaloo, I'd be less than pleased too! No apology. They just argued with me. And every other curry house in Malvern serve better food

Ordered on just eat, absolutely amazing quality and lovely! Driver was so nice, polite and just positive overall! Absolutely lovely service and will definitely order again! Portions are the perfect size for one person honestly don’t need any bigger or would be throwing loads away! Left very full after a korma, rice and naan!

To clarify this was a Takeaway. DO NOT EAT FOOD FROM HERE. It's disgusting. Garlic naan- tastes like normal naan. Doughy too= had to cook it myself. Garlic rice= tastes like crap rice. Watery and zero flavour. The Chicken Korma?!!! It was like eating a dessert - so sweet, awful texture. Onion Bhajis are just flour and onions - they don't taste of anything Chicken Biryani? Just nothing. Tastes of nothing. Garlic mushrooms? Watery mushrooms with no garlic. Mint yogurt. The worst - SO SWEET Mango chutney? Better off buying your own jar. "Spice cottage"? SPICE? There was NO flavour at all to anything!! I rarely leave bad reviews. But there was not ONE redeeming dish. Seriously spent over £35.00 pound for a bunch of food that went straight in the bin.

Fantastic food. We ordered a selection of vegetarian dishes and especially enjoyed the sag aloo, paneer shaslic and the garlic naan.

First order - fiod is noce but this is deffinetly the smallest pertion i have seen in co paracing with other restaurants in Malvern - only 6 small pcs of chicken in tika masala. Also, no papadoms - all the others send 2. Dont think i will be ordering again.

After moving to Worcester 4 years ago, I have struggled finding a single curry house that serves high quality, flavoursome curries. This delightful place has officially restored my faith in Indian cuisine in Worcestershire! For the first time in 4 years, I was served a REAL curry! Full of flavour, and it's obvious the chef's care about their food! Do not fret about bland, watery curries, this is the real deal! I had a lovely hot curry that was had real flavour, not just chilli's thrown into a sauce. I cannot recommend this place enough! Fantastic food and great value for money, accompanied by great service. Please give this place a try, they deserve to be recognised, and you WON'T regret it!

First time delivery from spice cottage, ordering was easy, delivery was well within the time stated. Piping hot food, lovely flavour, a little more meat could of been in the sauce and vindaloo could have had more of a kick. Hence 4 stars.

Last time ever ! Fobbed off with some white fish in awful red sauce, I asked for salmon !! Instead of advising me no salmon tried to blag me, offered chicken Tikka substitute & got 6 pieces of chicken in same sauce from Chernobyl. Come back Abdul & T. J.

A very pleasant meal in a nice ambiance.

I brought a takeaway from spice cottage and they were so lovely, I 100% recommend this place especially if you want some actual spice in your food, my partner and I both had two different lamb dishes and they were perfect, spice cottage also ran out of their kulfi but that was totally fine by us as they told us within a couple minutes of ordering and gave us a refund and extra poppadoms and sauces, I've had a great night thanks to them :D

We went early evening on a Wednesday and therefore we had the banquet deal which is excellent value and is available Wednesday and Thursday at £10.95 and includes poppadoms and chutney, a starter, a main dish and a rice or Naan bread . They also have good takeaway deals all week. The atmosphere was clean and in keeping with Indian restaurant style but it was a little early so I can only judge it as a very quiet restaurant. We will definately return. The food was super tasty and the waiter advised our choices from his experience without us needing to ask and was very helpful and polite.

We went for the banquet deal which is on Wednesday snd Sunday . You get poppadoms and chutney, a starter, a main dish and a naan or rice for £10.95 . The place was clean and the staff friendly and attentive. We were able to take our own alcohol. The parking was easy. The flavours were excellent. I had the Goa garlic chicken which was sizzling in its pan and so colourful and full of flavour and I also had the chicken chat puri. My husband had lamb Biryani and samosas. We were both really happy and satisfied.

Went on Friday night a group of 10 . It was very quiet only us in! Service s bit slow to start with but we went and asked them to take our order and after that it was fine! Food was good and good size portions ! It was a bit cold in there too no heating on!

The worst Indian food I have ever eaten, bland with no spice or flavour. The most disappointing dinning experience we have ever had. The restaurant had no atmosphere, it was cold, quiet and the staff seemed bored. We were not offered a drink when we say down and despite phoning earlier to book we were not told they don't serve drinks. I asked for a jug of water which was room temperature. Despite us both ordering completely different starters and mains all the food looked and tasted the same and lacked any flavour. After finishing our food the waiter didn't come back to the table again and eventually we got up to pay as we left, we were only then told it was cash only. Definitely would not return or recommend.

After reading reviews online, I thought I'd try this take away for a change. My order came to £27.80 which included £1 delivery. I had a starter of Tandoori King Prawns at a cost of £4.95. That consisted of just 2 prawns and a load of onions! My main meal was a Tandori mixed grill costing £9.95. It was luke warm. I had to put it in my microwave to heat it up. My wife's meal wasn't much better. Her Malayan Lamb Biryani consisted of a couple of pieces of lamb, filled out with a huge amount of rice. First time using Spice Cottage and it will be the last. Poor value. Poor food.

I do not know how this place is still allowed to serve the people of malvern its the worst I've ever had aswell as being spoken to like a dog . I went in there last night the chef came out and said sit and walked away .then another guy comes over with a bag of bin food that's where it went never again .that's a honest report of spice cottage.

Beautifully presented dishes The service attentive and cheerful. My one concern is that the menu on Sunday and Wednesday is not the same as the menu you are given. A different menu on those days should be presented to avoid disappointment.For example the Biryani will not come with a sauce on the special offer. Some of the menus tell you a side is included and some menus have that crudely scribbled out. Will visit again but will check what we are ordering on certain days.

May be eating in gives you a much better experience but a takeaway not so much,we have had lots and lots of takeaways from spiced cottage over years but recently they have not been good at all,you ask for salad and don't get it,tonight we ordered x 2 Keema nans and we get two nans that basically have some Keema dye on them and we have paid for Keema and not got them,thus isn't the first time,get your act together or you will loose you regulars

I don’t post much , but the service and food were so bad I think it deserves the effort of saying something. It could have been an off day, but the whole experience was unpleasant. We were there for the Malvern show so relied on the other posts which rated cut highly. It was relatively cheap though. No alcohol licence either so . Couldn’t be bothered to take issue at the time as we were all tired after a long day and worst things are going on in the world . Also only takes cash. I would avoid

Definitely the worst Indian I've ever eaten. Possibly the worst meal I have had. When reviewing you take into account not just the food food but atmosphere and service . The atmosphere was non existent and the service and welcome were hard to find either. The meal left all expectations unsurpassed. Of the four of us none enjoyed their meal, one was left untouched, mine barely eaten and our two friends commented on the blandness of the food. Strangely (or not so strangely) our waiter when collecting the plates- two of which were fairly full did not enquire how we had enjoyed the meal- perhaps he had an inkling! He had enquired around five minutes into the meal as to how it was but it is hard to be definitive when beginning a meal. To make matters worse we could not drown our sorrows as they did not serve alcohol which is not clear on the website. I had sent an email before we came asking about this- no reply and on the day phoned them too as and was not under the impression from the call that this was an issue. I understand the constraints that restaurants are under which is why we wish to support them. However, when you receive service which shows little care for the customer, ambience which is zero and food which leaves little taste due I think to the quality of the ingredients you wonder why you bother. We had had an enjoyable stay in Malvern but unfortunately this restaurant visit is something we’ll remember- for all the wrong reasons.

First time eating here ... but won't be the last. Prompt, polite and very helpful service plus excellent food. Looking forward to our next visit ... soon!!

After using the spice cottage for some years we both felt the menu was getting a bit tired. However had a takeaway tonight delivered quickly really nice fresh starter and a really tasty chicken Madras as a main. Fantastic value and delivery to colwall(3miles) free of charge. Will definitely be using the place again especially with the new menu.

Best Indian restaurant in Malvern

I continue to be impressed with the food from Spice Cottage. With lots of options in Malvern for Indian food, they are right up there with the best. 20% off on collection makes it good value. The chicken tikka naga masala has good heat and flavour. My wife also enjoys their saag paneer. We have enjoyed our weekly takeaway from Spice Cottage during this lockdown and recommend them.

My wife and I had a takeaway tonight I ordered it online to collect. I got it home and dished up there was an extreme lack of lamb in the lamb tikka we had a combined amount of 8 peices of lamb and that was between to portions of tikka. The Vegetable fried rice was salty and soggy, the nan bread was most definitely not a fresh homemade one it was more like open a packet and warm it up. Onto the dips the Mango chutney had never seen a mango and the mint yogurt was daylgow green with a distinct lack of MINT. They refused a refund and told me to remind them when I next go in to get a 10% discount. #notedanle #notniceundescribableyuck

I absolutely love this place, very reasonably priced, food is always amazing. The quality is good and I've never had a bad experience from them. I placed an order earlier and when I get home realised there were no poppadoms. I didn't ring the restaurant or make a complaint because to me personally it was no issue. About 10 minutes later they knocked on my door and had bought the poppadoms they forgot. To me that is fantastic service and I cannot fault them!

Delicious meal, home delivery via Just Eat. Prompt arrival, piping hot. Very generous portions. Enough left overs for 2 more meals. Thoroughly recommended.

Hadn’t used spice cottage for a while as the food quality went quite downhill, but heard a few people saying it was ok so gave it another try. Really disappointed with it. Firstly no members of staff in there wearing a face mask of any type during a COVID lockdown ? All really blasé about it Food was hot but main courses were bland , cheap frozen chicken in a tomato sauce that was far from the spicy the menu described. Naan bread was half cooked and really heavy , could only eat the edges , rice and side dishes were decent enough. A lot of people obviously like it so it’s personal taste I guess, but for me there are 2 far better Indian restaurants a stone throw away.

I ordered my food to be delivered through just eat. Food arrived very late. 2 phone calls to the restaurant the first one I was told my food would be 5-10 mins, I called back after 20 mins to get told I didn’t have an order and got hung up on. So I drove to the restaurant. I was told it was my fault I was hung up on because ordering online isn’t the same as just eat. Like I’m supposed to understand how their system works. I can honestly say that I have never been treated so poorly by a restaurant. My food finally arrived with a wrong item after over 2hrs.

We have had the most delicious takeaway meal this evening. Best Take out Indian we have had in years. It really was as fresh as if you were been served in the restaurant. A real treat during the lockdown of Covid 19. We will definitely recommend and use again. Thank you Spice Cottage a 10/10

Ordered a take away,it came an hour late,it was luke warm & for the cost (over £31)there wasn't alot of it!

We ended going to the spice cottage after not getting a table over the road at Everest eatary being fully booked. I had my doubts about it when walking towards the restaurant but how much I was mistaken after getting in there. Staff very friendly and polite and the food absolutely delicious from start to finish will definitely be going back.

Massively overpriced for poor quality food, terrible service and zero atmosphere. No wonder it was the only place available to book at short notice! I will be going out of my way to avoid this restaurant in future.

Just finished eating a takeaway comprising of, onion bhaji, vegetable samosa, chicken balti and a garlic naan accompanied by mint pickle and two side salads. Couldn’t fault the service or quality and flavour of the food, one of the best baltis I have eaten in years.

Excellent food! Generous portions

Ordered online and phoned 10 minutes later to confirm they had received our large order which they did. Waited over an hour and a half before questioning where our order was after some confusion from the person who answered he assured me it had just left to be delivered. After waiting another 20minutes with no delivery i phoned again to be told they hadn't received an order from me!! So i was lied to on the 2 previous calls. We had a £70 order and chose to take our order elsewhere, the Everest Eatery in fact (with 2mins of the Spice Cottage)who regdless that they had a full restaurant, had our large order ready in 25mins which was delicious and service very impressive! I would never ever attempt to use of visit the spice cottage again, appauling customer service!

My wife and I ordered a takeaway to be delivered and on reflection we found the whole experience below standard, despite the woman delivery person initially been quite friendly. My wife and I had a £5 voucher from the front of their takeaway menu, which you could use if you spent £25 or over; our order was just over that amount, so we qualified. I asked her about this, but she seemed perplexed and said how I could use it next time, I accepted her explaination as I was kean to consume our food hot! I gave a her tip, but she did not acknowledge this by saying thank you. Please do not think I am being a snop, but I believe first impressions count, especially when it involves the delivery of food. The delivery person's appearence was a tad scruffy and it was apparent the transportation of food was not done orderly, because when my wife and I started unpacking it, we noticed one of the main meal containers was open, not very hygienic, and it had to be heated-up! I decided to call into the Spice Cottage on the same day to query their £5 voucher scheme and the manager said 'you should had have £5 taken off your meal, but you can have £5 taken off your next takeaway.' I left it at that, but later again reflected on our bad experience and was still not happy with the outcome, especially with the managers blasé attitude and I am sure it was due to my scruffily attire. Clearly standards have dropped especially with their delivery service and the way they deal with complaints and if my feedback is not taken as constructive criticism then my wife and I will not be the only ones not to use this Indian restaurant / takeaway again.

Great food and fast service on take away

If you require a delivery the same day i wouldn't bother. Ordered a curry at 5:40 on saturday only to be delivered at 7:30.....i was told this would be 45 mins to 1 hour.. Then to get a phone call asking for another £5 for delivery because he added it up wrong!!!! Utter Utter shambles of a place... When there are so many curry houses in Malvern do not waste your money here..

I've given this a two because, although the food was tasty, the decor is tired, the waiters a little surly and my wife and I were up in the night with bad stomachs and an overdose of msg.

What a lovely little Indian Restaurant offering you true and Englishised Great quality Dishes at an outstanding price. The Staff... Are more like they are your friends and really make you feel welcome almost like you are visiting their own house. They go out of their way to explain anything on the menu that you maynot understand. They also go out of their way to help you with your dietry needs. So if you are hungry and fancey a curry or something else this is this place to go.

Upon arriving at the restaurant we were promptly seated. The waiter was very friendly and took our orders straight away; placing a starter of poppadoms on our table within minutes. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals - they really were cooked to perfection and not one of us had any criticism to give. Not to mention, the restaurant itself was pleasantly decorated and we felt comfortable eating here. My curry was one of the best curries I've had in a long time! I would recommend Spice Cottage to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, high-quality meal, served by down-to-earth people.

Visited with the family on a hot bank holiday evening. The service was quick, courteous, friendly & efficient. Food was excellent. The starters were fresh & hot. Mains had just the right amount of kick. Side dishes were very tasty, including the garlic naan. They even had pistachio kulfi (favourite of my wife). We brought our own beer & they provided the glasses. A lovely family meal & evening out.

We went to the banqueting night on Weds. It was a very hot evening & I was surprised they were so busy. The restaurant was under control though. Plenty of charming young servers & no excessive waiting. We chose the seafood dishes. All were excellent. One of the best Indians in Malvern.

Ripped off with enjoy card! Food too sweet, no flavour. Cutlery sticky and dirty. Toilet is a disgrace. Staff take ages to serve , even when it's dead, which unsurprisingly it usually is.

We used this restaurant a few years ago and were less than impressed. Having had a man going door to door selling a discount scheme for Spice Cottage we decided to give them another chance. Wow what a mistake that was, to be fair the food was pretty good but the service was awful and resulted in a complete argument over the voucher we had bought in good faith! We waited for an eternity to be served and after asking for some attention we were told what wasn't available from the menu, then no body came back to take our order and after complaining we were told there were four of us at the till area if you wanted us. This really isn't our idea of a dine in restaurant and shan't be repeating it.

Having stayed away for sometime we tried this restaurant again and were pleased that we did. The staff were polite, friendly and provided very good attentive service. The food was good and excellent value for money @ £9.95 each for 4 courses! Take your own alcohol, soft drinks are available on site.

Went for the Wednesday Night Banquet (£9.95). Loads of food, good menu choices, and nicely cooked and served. We took a few bottles of the Friday Ale (local brewery). A very good evening.

A great place to go for a meal with family or friends. Parking meters away and easily accessible for any and all. Lovely food, if you like a sweet Korma or a fiery Madras then this is the place to go.

tried this place out after disappointing few takeaways from others. myself, missus and two boys all enjoyed their food, chicken that looked like chicken breast, nicely cooked food. well recommended .

And we eat at them all! A birthday celebration. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was simply divine. Hang onto this chef! You can bring your own wine and cake! Makes it a very affordable evening. We'll definitely be back soon!

The restaurant does not have a licence to sell alcohol but they allow you to take in your own with no corkage fee.

We dropped in here on the spur of the moment while on vacation. The food was prepared promptly and the waiter was very nice. It was pretty empty at the time except for take-out activity. I had clay pot lamb and my wife and I shared some papadums. We ordered a second round of papadums because the condiments were so good. I generally don't like onions raw but they served one condiment that had lovely seasonings that complimented the sharpness of the onions and made it all work. The lamb was flavorful and made with good quality meat - sometimes restaurants skimp on lamb quality when it's in a thick sauce but this place used good tender lamb that wasn't all fat. We also had naan bread that was soft and sweet with just enough toasted parts to give it a good traditional flavor. I'm not a connoisseur of Indian food but have had half a dozen business trips to India and I think this was authentic without being too adventurous for a European palate.

We have just been for a friends daughters birthday and i can honestly say it is a HIDDEN GEM!! food is fantastic and so reasonably priced!! Staff were very polite and super accomodating to our requests. We have found our new curry house!! THANK YOU

Popped in for a last minute curry, and we were definitely surprised for the best. Had a chicken balti, rice and some delicious small bites to start. Can’t wait to work our way through this menu. Waiters were helpful, happy and made us feel so welcome!

Under new owners, great staff very helpful, excellent food with some "extra" thrown in. A BYOB means that the value is excellent. Seen recent reviews about long waits, but this was 8:30 mid-week and service was exemplary..
