We have been using this place for take aways for over 10 years although not so much recently after celebrating our anniversary! We decided to eat in and the food was very good with no 'after effects'. However, I was very disappointed with the loo which felt tired and in need of decoration... the door was filthy from years of use and a simple coat of paint would have gone a long way! It's all in the detail... we won't eat in again.

Food was acceptable but nothing extraordinary. We had a take away which was a 45 minute wait, slightly longer than we were told. The waiter seemed a little grumpy but offered advice on the food when asked. A free poppadom was a nice touch but as there were 2 of us, it didn't go far. The portions were large so plenty left over. We would get a take away again if in the town, but wouldn't make a special journey.

New owners, new name. Ordered 10 take away main courses, 40 dishes total including sides. Busy Saturday night in restaurant but food on time (to the minute) and everything ordered present and correct. We ordered a takeaway last night, and I was expecting it to be good, as the feedback since new owners took over has been good, but I was surprised at just how fresh and tasty the food was. Had a takeaway for four. Vindaloo was watery and not that hot. As was Korma. prices were high too -at least £10 a head. If ever a small town needed some competition, this was it. It was our second time there and sadly it hasn't improved since the previous visit. Perhaps a sit down might be better but at £.50 a dish plus rice, it looks poor value. I doubt we'll experience a third trip.

I've lived in the Midlands for 22 years, so think I'm qualified to pass judgement on a good curry... We ordered for delivery, £87 quids worth. The driver found our rented house easily and the food was there within an hour. Perhaps therein lies the problem?? Naans were nice, rice was nice, main dishes very poor. All of the curries apart from a madras were sat in coloured water. I was initially disappointed as I had thought it was a very thick layer of oil sat on the food. However, I was even more disappointed when I realised it was water. We had a variety of dishes, 7 mains in all and it was all pretty much the same. There was no real taste, no spice to it, no thickness or consistency to the 'sauce'. I wouldn't order from here again and I wouldn't recommend it.

The Spice Bizaar is one of the closest takeaways to Finlake.Offering delivery we called, but delivery is only on Friday / Saturday to Finlake, so we drove over.Parking is easy outside, and having ordered a number of different dishes found the food a little inconsistent. Korma & Chicken Tikka Massala where nice with a sweet thickish sauce, a chicken madras and bombay aloo where cooked in a watery ( I dare not use sauce) as it was just pure liquid. This meant that it was not a dish that had much flavour & both were bland. Probably the worst madras I've ever had.

We checked opening times via google and also the restaurant website. Both said open from 12-2. So does the restaurant leaflet. When we arrived the door was open, we went in and were told it was closed as the chef was at the mosque. We went elsewhere in Bovey and had a good time but were disappointed that we hadn't found any information anywhere to suggest Spice Bazaar was closed. We ordered a takeaway which was really poor. The food was slightly warm at best in temperature. I hate to think what they had done with the Tandoori Chicken - it was cold in temperature but strangely burnt and blackened all over. It had a white coating which looked like congealed Ghee (clearly it had been left lying around for a long time waiting for a customer) - inedible. The food generally was very greasy and not in my opinion freshly prepared. We did return it and to be fair they did re-do the order and gave us two free beers. However it was still not very good (slightly better than the first order) although our perception of it was probably ruined by the first offering!

In India at the moment eating good cheap food every day, and remembered what a travesty of Indian cooking the Spice Bizarre is. Tried to fob us off with tiny prawns instead of king prawns, the replacement king prawns had been microwaved to death, but the final insult was the waiter insisting that the tortilla they served was a chappati. We visited this evening to have a meal. We were greeted by, quite frankly, a miserable man. I asked a few questions about the menu and he looked at me like I was stupid which made me feel rubbish. I had chicken tikka masala and my partner had chicken Balti, both of them where very greasy and bland. I ended up swapping dishes with my partner and barely eating any of the meal anyway. The chicken tikka tasted far too buttery. I ordered a chapatti and it was dry and over cooked.Over all we were really disappointed in our visit. Wouldn't go back again. I was billed for something we didn't have and I said to the waiter when I was paying that we didn't have that could he take it off the bill and he tried to tell me that he couldn't do that, which is ridiculous. We have just returned to Bovey Tracey for the third year running, for our autumn getaway. Each year we have explored a bit further and tried different places. Indeed, in other reviews I've mentioned the Spice Bazaar as a possible eating out place. This year, we tried the Spice Bazaar for the first time, and let me be honest right from the outset: disappointed. From the outside the place looks full of promise; it's an inviting, nicely decorated and furnished place on the main road through town. The staff are pleasant enough, we were greeted and seated promptly, though it has to be said it was very quiet when we arrived at about 9.30 on a Saturday night. Drinks were ordered and soon arrived, however it was immediately clear that a slight breakdown on communication had occurred and the spiced rum and cokes requested were ordinary rum. To their credit, the staff rectified this mistake immediately it was pointed out. The restaurant displays a "Food Hygiene Rating" of 4 (good) in the window, however when my partner went to the ladies toilet, she found it dirty and full of flies. On my subsequent visit to the gents, I found it shabby and poorly maintained. The open window revealed the rear storage area, where an off duty member of staff was sat smoking close to the stores food. Our order arrived fairly swiftly, but basic touches like napkins were overlooked. My meal was described as "hot", but it turned out to be nothing of the sort and came in a watery sauce. There was noticeably little chicken in it, far less than I'd expect, or have experienced in other Indian restaurants. It wasn't unpleasant, just lacklustre, and as this is the only Indian in Bovey Tracey, the overall impression is of a place that isn't really trying at all. This is a real shame, because it could so easily be the jewel on the crown. Both of us have decided that when we come back next year, we're not going back to the Spice Bazaar. Bear in mind this is in a town that isn't overflowing with places to eat of a Saturday night. It's a bit of a shame really.

A really low quality restaurant that has lost its way completely. Food is very poor, ingredients obviously from the lowest end of the chain, service inconsistent, and not inexpensive. It looks and feels like a place that has no competition and no energy to improve. The staff barely smiled and were focused in speed at the expense of everything else. The acid test of any Indian restaurant is the quality of the popadom. Should have realised the rest of the meal would be poor from that point. Prawns small and from frozen, chicken saw plenty of colouring and no spices. Overall it was a really disappointing experience.

I visited the restaurant with friends we weren't greeted as we came in which seemed strange. We were a large party so expected a bit of a wait for the food so that was fine but they missed a few meals which meant that the rice had gone cold before their main dishes came out & no apology. Many of the group were drinking wine but we also asked for bottles of water & were made to feel that this was a huge inconvenience for them. There were two men serving us the taller waiter was friendly & tried to do his best but the shorter waiter was abrupt with us & made us feel that us being there was too much trouble for him. When it came to pay as there were lots of us we wanted to pay individually & we were told categorically that we couldn't. It was only when one of the party said if we can't split the bill then we can't pay it can we. They then were able to split it but despite having a computerised till & calculator this still appeared to be too much effort for them. The food was ok but due to poor service we would think twice about returning

Got my husband to pick up a take away meal as a treat to save cooking for one night, and I really wished I hadn't...I don't know whether the chef was having an 'off' night or a night off but the rice and curries [chicken Shaslick and Dansak] were incredibly salty and bland beyond belief. My husband rated it as "the worst curry I've ever had" and I could only agree with him.It felt awful to have to chuck the whole lot in the bin after eating a matter of mouthfuls but we had no option. Not a patch on the Bayleaf in Exeter...

This restaurant seems to changed its staff and chef on a regular basis. We used to get take a ways regularly but have reduced significantly. On one of the few occasions we ate in the restaurant I found plastic in my meal!! The portions are cheaper if you have a take away and the portion sizes are bigger

Had a lovely meal here Friday evening with family. Staff very friendly and food really good. Only down side according to my partner was the price of the beer.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Small restaurant but as they say "the best things come in small packages". Very good value for money.

Normally we get Take Away which is lovely but I had a meeting with some business colleagues.Food as usual was lovely (although the mango chutney with the popadoms was very runny compared to other mango chutneys I've had). All three of us had different courses & shared I was able to be a bit more adventurous than my usual Chicken Korma!Atmosphere was quiet to start with not unsurprising as it was as Monday. Towards the end of our meal got a tad noisy when a larger group of chaps who were a bit worse for wear came in.

We visited whilst in the area and wished we hadn't wasted our time!On arrival we waited, without being greeted or acknowledged by staff (or should I say the only member of staff there) for over 15 minutes before we were told to follow the waiter, not even a "Hello" or "Sorry for the wait!"Once seated the drinks order was quickly taken but we had to wait another 10 minutes for the drinks and a further 15 minutes before our food order was taken. This would not be so bad if it were busy but there were only two other small parties (4 and 2 people)! Finally, when the waiter came to take our order we managed to ask for 6 poppadoms before the phone rang and he walked off again!Suffice to say we didn't wait around and on leaving we were shocked to receive a half mumbled apology, at least there was some acknowledgement of us!I can't comment on the food (we didn't actually manage to place an order!) but would recommend you to take the extra time to drive somewhere else.

Food OK - madras curry had thin watery sauce and chicken which didn't seem particularly inviting. Spices average and keema nan flakey and fell apart before you could eat it. Wouldn't rush back there in truth!

Love it here. Good choice of menu and a good variety of veggie and fish options. Could do with more waiting staff, as was only one on and although it's only a small eat in restaurant was busy. Food and value superb

Lovely food, normal Menu but well cooked. Just wish the fried rice dishes were fried properly rather than a bit of a steamed dish. Must say that this is a problem though at many Indians in the SW.Apart from that, excellent food and service

Fantastiskt bra indisk mat. Inte alls sliskigt eller slabbigt som en billig indisk restaurang skulle vara, utan vällagat av bra råvaror och fräscha rätter med naturliga smaker och kryddor. Dessutom mycket generösa portioner till rimliga priser!

Friendly staff, decent cooking and quite subtle spicing. Starters and specials a bit expensive. Monkfish kebab excellent. Lamb shank rather heavy-going. Cobra lager, however, at over six pounds for a 50cl bottle seems more than steep.

Friendly staff. Korma was a bit bland and the Chicken Tikka Balti was very very salty. A fabulous Naan though. Mixed review.

A little tasteless and watery, service was friendly but we are curry lovers and this fell a little short, it was a birthday treat too so a bit disappointed.

Chicken korma somewhat bland. The lamb-and-spinach balti was somewhat better. Nothing to rave about, nothing to boo.

Visited on a quiet night in May and had very good attentive service. The food was really tasty and plenty of it. My only regret was that they were out of stock of King Cobra beer (something I have wanted to try for while).

What a waste of money and time, thought we would try our local Indian restaurant and was looking forward to it, what came to us was as bland as sucking on a shamy leather with my curry full of sugar grains, when we complained we were told "well that's how you English like it " I was so insulted I paid up a very expensive bill for the rubbish I had not eaten, never ever will go there again.

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

We was on a pub tour of the area and passed this on a way to another pub and thought “oh this looks quaint” sometimes the most impromptu pubs are the best and this one certainly is! Four ales were on draft we opted for the salcombe gold Which was excellently kept. I loved the laid back atmosphere with dog friendly sofas. They have a beautiful boxer dog named boots who greets you on arrival who is loving in nature with people and dogs. Very chilled and dog friendly and I will certainly visit again and stay for longer when I’m next in the area. Whatpub online does not hype this place is much as it should.

Met up with family as we had come down to visit. We were very surprised 😯 with the sloop, being a hungry horse we are used to them being noisy and dirty. We were so surprised and we were allowed to take our 🐶 in. The staff were lovely and most importantly so was the food.
