Listening to people telling others that's there's other takeaways over the road. Due to the wait and not the amount of people waiting in line.

We have been coming here for years and it has gone downhill since going under new management. It is really sad as the food was amazing before and was a proper good chippy! It costs around £8.50 for regular fish and chips which is a little more than the going rate. The fish portion was minuscule, not fresh and overdone. Chips were also old, dry and recooked. Plus there was a really long wait as we had to wait at least half an hour. I’m very familiar with both Chinese and Jamaican/African cooking and this is NOTHING like the traditional and real thing. The prices are extortionate and you’re essentially paying a bomb for food reheated in pre-made sauce (which they are sponsored by). Owners should reconsider naming their establishment as African or Caribbean as this is not how it is made. I would avoid this place and certainly won’t be going back.

Not a great place to go. Took ages for the food (25 mins). Go somewhere else if it's open.

The African food these guys are doing has to be some of the best we've eaten all holiday! Definitely one to try while you're in the area!

We had some amazing food from "JJ's African Kitchen", yes they do Fish and Chips, but if you like something a bit spicier you're in the right place. Soul + Chips has become my must-have dish - a great combination of chips with a spicy flavoursome seasoning. I'm yet to try to the Jerk dishes, but if the Soul Chicken is anything to go by it should be amazing. Large portions make this place especially good value.

Amazing food and staff! I ordered fish and chips for delivery during Covid and the staff were so kind and careful. When the food arrived, the delivery driver was wearing gloves and a mask and was really polite. The food itself was exceptional! The fish was perfectly cooked and the chips were hot and crispy, even though they had been boxed up for delivery. I was so happy I ordered from them and a bit sad that I didn't discover them sooner. By far the best fish and chips in Dawlish Warren!

Just had the best meal of our whole week here in Devon from here. (Currently called JJ’s African Kitchen). £13 for an enormous meal for two, really fresh, healthy, tasty. High recommend!

Used to do great fish and chips here once. Now it seems to have new owners. Just bought standard fish and chips at £8:50. Fish was tiny and chips were brown and dry, most likely re-heated. Won't be returning.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

We was on a pub tour of the area and passed this on a way to another pub and thought “oh this looks quaint” sometimes the most impromptu pubs are the best and this one certainly is! Four ales were on draft we opted for the salcombe gold Which was excellently kept. I loved the laid back atmosphere with dog friendly sofas. They have a beautiful boxer dog named boots who greets you on arrival who is loving in nature with people and dogs. Very chilled and dog friendly and I will certainly visit again and stay for longer when I’m next in the area. Whatpub online does not hype this place is much as it should.

Met up with family as we had come down to visit. We were very surprised 😯 with the sloop, being a hungry horse we are used to them being noisy and dirty. We were so surprised and we were allowed to take our 🐶 in. The staff were lovely and most importantly so was the food.
