This is probably the stalwart curry restaurant in London, been going here for years & have almost never had a bad curry here, this is probably one of the very few curry houses in London that is constantly fuller during the week than at the weekends, that's how good a standard this curry house is/was. The reason I say was is that the place was closed last night, no notice on the door no nothing!!! Went to the other curry restaurant about 20 doors down, opposite the Windmill pub, cant say how disappointing the curry was here, totally bland, can't believe people pay to eat here. After doing a bit of detective work asking some locals we discovered the lease has run out for the Southbank Tandoori and I'm guessing either the owner has either decided to retire or not pay which I'm sure would be a much inflated price to renew the lease. Can anyone out there confirm this to be true?

No volvería.

I just finished up an evening with an old pal. We met from Waterloo station and didn’t want to travel far. Unfortunately that lead us to the Southbank Tandoori, one of our worst London dining experiences. The first insult was the treatment from the staff as we sat down. My companion and I are two young women and the assumption was made almost immediately that we were not going to be big spenders. This lead to us being excessively hurried to order while perusing the menu. We had only been there for about one minute before we were asked to order our drinks. We said we weren’t ready only to be scowled at and asked the same question by another member of staff approximately one minute later... Once we had ordered a starter we were ready to order our main. We wanted to share a main as it was an early supper following a big lunch. We were told this was unacceptable and that there was a minimum per head spend of £13.95. Our spend would have been close to this anyway so it was rather insulting and honestly a bit of a rip off. Especially considering this was AFTER we ordered our starter and so obviously we had to comply. Beyond this the service was very rude and we were rushed through the meal and my companion asked for some chutney only to be ignored. The men were very hostile from the start and the food was bland. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant and that you go to the other tandoori on the same road which is much cheaper and frankly, definitely better.

I popped in for a curry with my partner. We were late, 10.30ish on a week night. The curry's arrived within minutes and were extremely hot (temperature), clearly microwaved as even the rice was blazing. A waiter literally stood at the next table the whole time and the moment we'd finished eating took the plates away and presented the bill. I guess they wanted to close up but we weren't the last people in there as there was a table of 6 still there.

I’ve worked out of the London office on and off for 18 years and I’ve never even registered this place. To be honest it looks a bit naff from the outside and even once you are inside the decor is a bit dated. Don’t let this put you off. The food is good - freshly cooked and not hidden in a load of gloopy sauce. Good efficient service and prices are pretty reasonable too for London. Would definitely come here again.

I took my partner here for a pre show meal and we both had superb curries. The spicy crab cake and fish tikka appetisers would not be out of place in a fine dining establishment. Our lamb curry mains were tadty, with lean soft pieces of lamb. They even have a wine list that is above average for an Indian restaurant.

Apiladas. alta. Many will be familiar with my honest reviews and this is no exception. Each month several of us descend on another Indian restaurant (which can be found in my reviews)for our monthly curry club! Last night due to work issues we decided to stay local, and we regretted it as soon as first meal hit the table!Another review on here mentioned the colour of the Chicken passanda....it was bright orange and did not taste as a pasanda should, we were told it is a chef from a different region....whatever the hell that meant!Service was not great nor bad but average. However, as creatures of habit, we ordered exactly the same food/drinks as in our regular restaurant and it was nearly £60 more.So if in Southwark and in need of a curry, message me for the address of another one and pay a £10 UBER fare and save a lot of money....and receive a world class meal.No coincidence but 5 guys with iron stomachs....all feeling poorly today. Eat here at your peril.

First visit and happened to be passing with a friend so dropped in to feed the addiction! Very busy and a nice atmosphere which makes a change for a curry house. The usual poppadom and pickles ok and the main meal very good. Jalfrezi is always my yardstick for a first visit. But, our food was served by a complete clueless idiot who could barely mutter the names of the dishes and actually decided to put one dish on my mobile phone and turned away muttering the name pilau rice. I find the service in curry houses generally pretty poor unless you're eating high-end but this was shockingly bad by any standard. Won't be returning.

Jumped in here with a friend on a busy Tuesday evening. The atmosphere was excellent, a real pre-Christmas buzz. The usual menu choice but the food was great and, strangely but welcome, not harangued to order quickly. I like it pretty hot and simple so had a jalfrezi, good heat level as some places can be a bit light on the fresh chilli, aubergine bhaji and 2 chipatis (yep, no rice, this is how it came when in curry houses in Bradford back in the 80's when at University). Really good quality and one of the best I've had in a while. All that said, the staff, though very efficient, were grumpy. I don't mind this so much but be wary!

Went here for a pals Christmas Curry evening earlier this week. The Cut has some good Pubs and Restaurants and I would certainly add this to them. It's a fairly typical Indian restaurant inside, with rather alot of mood lighting, although Iam not a great fan of the pale blue lighting that seems to abound in these places - but at least its calm.We all had several large Tiger Beers and the Poppadoms were crunchy and the dips very good. Great start! My Chicken Vindaloo was quite hot - perhaps it could've been a bit spicier. The Sag Aloo was excellent and the Pilau Rice fairly average. The Naan bread was particularly good - a lightness of flavour that was surprising and much appreciated. The Staff are fairly efficient and friendly and the overall cost of the meal was I thought very good value. So all things considered, I would heartily recommend this place - in an area abounding in Curry Houses, this one holds its own very well.

We ended up eating at the Southbank Tandoori Indian restaurant as a last minute decision. It was on The Cut so not far from our hotel. Décor was very tired, wait staff good until the bill came. Food was delicious with the best naan I’ve ever had. The waiter brought the credit card machine when I indicated I was ready to pay. On the machine, it asked for a gratuity with instructions to hit a certain button for yes and another for no. I guess I took too long as the waiter hit the no button and basically tossed my card onto the table along with the pen. Even though the food was good, I wouldn’t return with that kind of service.

Overall the food was lovely and seemed decently priced couldn't complain at that aspect. We travelled here from a different part of London as we have been before and enjoyed it. We was in a group of 4 (18,18,22 and 23 years old) before we even ordered a drink we were asked for ID. (Which was bizarre as I only wanted a coke!) The waiter then proceeded to tell us that you needed to be 21 to drink..... Pretty sure the law is 18 and 16 if it is part of a meal? We enquired with the manager and showed him what it said on google. The waiter and the manager got irate to the point were they could have been perceived as shouting saying it was company policy etc. Luckily we dealt with it ok and just had soft drinks if we were under 21. The management and staff did not deal with this appropriately at all! It was a shame as we have been here before and had no issues, and the food was good on this occasion too. We wouldn't come back after that behaviour and only stayed as we had travelled and it was getting late at night.

Visited here on our way home from the theatre and trying not to visit a chain restaurant we opted for the Southbank Tandoori. The service was fine and the waiters were very friendly and efficient. The food was enjoyable but I feel that it did not reflect the relatively high prices for a curry house in this area of London. The portions were also very small which made it even less value for money. I enjoyed my meal but would not visit again as there are plenty of other restaurants like this that provide equal quality food for a lot less money.

I have eaten here a few times and the food has always been a bit better than most of the Indian restaurants around here. The chicken xacuti is one of the best I have had in London. The service is laid back but attentive.I forgot my wallet once and they were cool with me popping back later in the evening to pay them which was very trusting and endeared me to the place.

We were in the area on Friday night after a show and we wanted to try somewhere new and we decided to give this place a try. The first signs were good as it was packed, so much that we had to wait for a table. All the food we ordered was delicious, especially the nan breads which were absolutely succulent. We'll come back!

Food and service were excellent, lamb masalla, pilau rice, popadams, chutney. I don't normally check my bill very closely, but it seemed a lot. Simple addition showed that £15 had been added to my bill. It should have been £23 but I was charged £38. An innocent mistake? Well, there was no apology or explanation but blank incomprehension. I took the matter up with the manager expecting to be offerered an apology or a free dessert, or something but was met with more blank denial. I was never impolite in my tone. I was ushered out of the restauarant feeling cheated and ripped off. DO NOT eat here unless you want random amounts of money added to your bill. They are quick with the Tippex which indicates to me that this is a common occurrence. Shame on you Southbank Tandoori.

A high street Indian that scores with both its location and food but lacks class with both the service and the decor. Staff can be a little awkward (if you book via OpenTable don't expect the restaurant staff to recognise your reservation - best call ahead) and the lighting isn't to everyone's taste. But the food is good, sometimes very good, and reasonable value too.

Worst hospitality. Online they advertised their time for closing as 11.00 pm. When we entered at 1030 pm. The waiter refused to seat us but said - collect your food and go. Servings were too too small. Taste was poor of curries. Naans were like uncooked rubbery dough put together. It was one of the worst experience to chase an Indian curry taste. None of the owner/ staff showed any decency of talking or taking order properly. It was as if we were homeless and they were obliging us by giving us food. Not cheap eitherWon't ever go back. Neither would I send my worst enemy to this place.

I had a reasonable Indian meal at this restaurant. I was not outstanding but good value for a location in this area of London.I would recommend trying it if everywhere else locally is full or outside your price range. The food is the standard staple of Indian restaurants across the UK.

I gave this restaurant another shot. It's very convenient for Waterloo and for the Old Vic or even closer to the Young Vic. I decided on the lamb shank this time. The meat was lovely and tender and nicely flavoured, but served with so little finesse. A huge plate of food was put in front of me with the sauce almost filling the plate. Could easily have served two people, but could have been presented so much better. Service was good and attentive but if you're there early and alone as I was, the staff tend to stand and chat just near you which makes it a little uncomfortable.

Agree with fellow reviewers. We felt like we were rushed from the second we entered the restaurant. We came in at about 9pm and from the get go it was 'What would you like to drink?' when we asked for five minutes just two minutes later another different waiter asked the same question. Orders were taken very swiftly and special requests weren't properly noted and then mistakes were made.Food was nice but didn't like the feeling of being rushed! If you don't care and want good Indian then this is good for just the food only.

This venue was recommended by a friend so I went on a cold Tuesday night in January. I enjoyed L Lamb Shank and my friend, a King Prawn Masala. I particularly liked the quantity of the food served with a tasty thick sauce, pilau rice well cooked, Brinjal and other side dishes good too.A large restaurant, with tables very close together and very busy the night we went, attentive service and clean tables. Nothing really to criticise food wise, but I would recommend that the owners modernise the toilets given the size of the restaurant. There is no excuse to have a tatty toilet in a busy restaurant, and it needs attention. That said, I would go again and recommend it if you need to eat close to Waterloo.

The mixed starter showed promise, the chicken was tender, the vegetable samosa crisp and tasty. The main meal of chicken was disappointing, a dry over spiced tandoori.Good service but I will not be revisiting.

Located just nearby to both Waterloo and Southwark, it's a perfect location that's a little off the beaten track. Always busy but never had to wait for a table. There's a wide range of choice on the menu, I opted for the korma with side dishes of rice and onion bahjis. Fairly reliable and safe, nothing too adventurous. Not the cheapest dining experience in the area but good enough.

The staff were friendly and the service swift. The rice wasn't particularly good and unlike any pilau rice I've had before. My lamb saag was unremarkable and lacked some extra chilli that I'd made a point of asking for. Was convenient for a pre performance meal at the Old Vic which is just 2 mins away.

The service and the food were good until we discovered a small 1 cm metal nut in the Tarka Dal; and then, a couple of minutes later, the metal washer that went with it! But the worst thing was that when we reported it to the manager he implied that one of our party had inserted them in the dal! It is just (but only just) understandable that such accidents can happen but it is unforgiveable to then blame the guests. As compensation they offered one free dish of prawns.

Standard Indian restaurant for the UK really. Food was pretty bland. Nothing to set it apart from its peers. Average value for money, good choice of curries just don't expect to be wowed.

This is a sympathetic restaurant near Southwark tube station and less than ten minutes walking from the Citizen M hotel. The food was excellent, service was good and the restaurant was almost full which is usually a good indication of price and quality. I would certainly come here again on a next occasion.

Be very careful here. My phone was stolen in here and the staff were incredibly unhelpful. There were very few people in thé placé so you can draw your own conclusions....The food was also unremarkable.

This is one of may dining establishments along The Cut from Waterloo Road. We chose the spot as there seemed to be a few tables available without wait.Service was efficient and attentive but not especially warm. The dishes were all filling and well prepared but there was nothing especially exciting to separate the fare from that of any other Indian restaurant in town or in many other cities. It wasn't a bad meal by any stretch but there also nothing about it that will linger in the memory banks.

Food was delivered quickly, was tasty and good quality. Only two points for improvement - they should do keema dishes (we were surprised they didn't have any!) and a friendlier service. Apart from that, the best place to get a good curry on The Cut.

We had a family dinner there with my daughter and wife. The food they serve is really delicious and authentic. Staff is polite generally, however not very eager or patient to give detailed recommendations. Price is fair. Should be tried if you stay around, however not worth a special trip, in my opinion.

My son wanted Indian food while we were in London and we chose this restaurant since it was close to our hotel and had decent TA reviews. We seemed to be the only tourists in the place. Service was quite slow, and it seemed to be intentional. Many servers attended us, but we didn't seem to have anyone devoted to our table. The food was very good, but the additional naan we asked for didn't arrive until we were finished. The server seemed not to know much about the wine and the one we picked had a screw cap. If you are in the area, it's worth stopping in if you want Indian food, but don't make a special trip.

When I first walked in I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable as all the male staff stared in a strange manner. I was also surprised to see there were not 3 other guests in the restaurant (despite most restaurants being full at this time on the cut. After ordering my meal (3seperate dishes) the waiter, without saying a word turns to the front page of the menu and points to the 'minimum spend' which I did not reach as my order was £11 rather than the minimum of £11.95. By this point I had had enough and decided to go to the charming Italian further up the road.

Popped in here for a meal early on after work, in London for a few days on business. The air conditioning was immediately welcoming as outside was very humd. Clean, comfortable surroundings. Had a delicious meal, prawn puri as a starter and then a Chakuti Murg. Would certainly go back if in the area

I've been twice, once dining alone early for a very relaxed and very good thali, enjoying the quiet aspect of the location. Soon after for a end of season cricket dinner of 16 guys on a Saturday 8pm on which was superbly hosted by Abu and team. We were treated to a selection of dishes all very tasty and top notch service. The value is exceptional. Our brief speeches and mild revelry were kindly tolerated. Go for a pint in the Royal Oak opposite before where they also serve takeout bottles of the excellent Harveys beers, which you can bring in the Simply Indian (no corkage). I shall return to Simply Indian, I really appreciate them. The food is well beyond your normal UK Indian takeaways, with incentive and flavourful menu.

Not used for a while as I tried some others but my favourite and still one of the best out there - plenty of flavour especially the Prawn Puri and the Garlic Mushroom - gave a complimentary free side dish too which was a bonus. Will be back - Thanks
