We went to this restaurant for lunch on 1 Aug. It has nice ambience. The food was good. We ordered paneer tikka and eggplant dish. Both were nice and value for money. Staff was courteous Would like to visit again

We had been told this was a good restaurant, it is in a good location, nice decor and plenty of tables available on a Saturday night surprisingly. We had a very nice lamb and cashew starter, but the chutneys were very bland and we were charged for them which is new to me. All the other dishes were very average, lamb rogan josh more tomato than lamb and a sweet bland sauce, no salad with the tandoori which was very dry. It is a shame as the staff were lovely and service very good. Hope this was just an off day, but for now our hunt for the best Indian restaurant south of the river carries on!

My partner and I took a walk along the south bank on a Friday night. We were hungry and didn't want to queue. Here we didn't have to wait for a table and we were served straight away. I had the lamb Rogan josh which was very tasty. The staff were very friendly but I did think it was expensive (£6.00 for a bottle of Cobra). Though I was in London! It's not a place I'd rush back to but I wouldn't avoid.

My partner and I were looking for an Indian meal somewhere a bit quieter and stumbled across this restaurant-the interior is supposed to look like the inside of a ship, however the decor really does need updating to move with the times. Food wise it was tasty-the menu was simplified compared to the pages you get in other indian restaurants, I had chicken tikka Bombay aloo and pilau rice, the food was quite rich and creamy-it tasted nice but definitely not the place to go if you are looking for a light meal. I would come back again but the decor definitely needs modernising.

The food was good, very tasty, and reasonably priced. We went on a Sunday, early evening and the restaurant was very quiet, which was good for us as they were able to accommodate our large party at short notice.

So, i had booked the restaurant for 9 of my colleagues and I to have a nice meal after we had been go karting. On first impression we were greeted very well and shown to our table. The starters that we ordered arrived and went down very well. My boss, who was over from Australia then decided to order his main meal first as he was very tiered and was suffering from jet lag and wanted to go back to his hotel. So, his food arrived and then he left for the evening. The remainder of us proceeded to order our main dishes - which arrived but my bosses meal also arrived again.... We ordered a selection of different dishes but in all fairness we all said that we had a better Indian elsewhere. So, onto the bill... When we arrived we ordered a round of cobras then two of the guys had a bottle of wine. We then ordered another round of drinks after (6) and then another 4 We asked for the bill and it had 60 cobras listed as the first line item, which was acknowledged as an accident and was removed, only to be then replaced with 23....i also challenged this and this argument of the number of drinks consumed went on for about 10 minutes... The remaining items also listed seemed to just have the incorrect prices against them. I just couldn't be bothered to argue anymore and frankly i just wanted to leave... Perhaps we just had a bad experience i'm not to sure, but if you do go, please keep an eye on what you ordered and perhaps take a screenhsot of the menu so you can cross reference the prices with the bill at the end.

My daughter and I decided to attend the Bengal Clipper as she had dined there many times before; so the restaurant was recommended. It was a good choice indeed as the whole experience more than lived up to my expectations. We were warmly welcomed on our arrival and immediately taken to our table. The restaurant was very spacious and tables all had white cotton tablecloths, which were crisp and very clean. I felt very relaxed even before going on the wine! We were given time to settle and then offered drinks by a friendly waiter. We chose to have poppadoms and dips for starters which tasted very good. My daughter chose lamb jalfrezi a speciality which apparently had lots of flavour and I decided to try the Chef's special chicken curry accompanied by Baitha - (yoghurt and cucumber). We waited for a while for the meal but not too long. The waiter made polite conversation in the interim which was fine as there was only the two of us at the table. When the meal arrived it was well presented and tasted fantastic. - the best curry I have ever tasted. My daughter also thoroughly enjoyed her flavoursome meal. I will definitely re-visit during my next trip to London as everything was most professionally done and I cannot fault it.

I've been in this place several times and it's usually mostly empty tables, even on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is quite a good standard, and the portions are quite large, so it's fine if you're hungry. The service isn't great but nothing that bad. It has the appearance of somewhere that would have once been a popular restaurant in the late 80s or early 90s but its regular customers have dwindled and it hasn't been decorated since. It's clean, but the decor is very 1980s or early 90s. They play slow piano music in there when there are very few people, and the place somehow seems too spaced out because of all the empty tables. As a consequence it really lacks atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with it if you're nearby and you want a reasonable meal in a nice spot, by the river. But I wouldn't go taking parties of people there as it just doesn't have the feeling to get you in the mood.

I came to the Bengal Clipper having won a meal for four at a function we held there. On arrival the Waiter questioned our prize letter for the meals. He did not offer us drinks or a nibbles but questioned us about 20 times about the letter not having a stamp on it. This was not done in a quiet manner. I got so annoyed at being embarrassed in this way that I said I am going to eat in the Italian restaurant next door and duly did. After eating next door I came back to find my colleagues were still eating their starters. It was then that one of them pulled out a bit of plastic out of their mouth that was mixed in with the starter. The waiter apologised and offered another starter I ordered a drink and chatted for a while. Everyone was moaning about how long it was taking for the main courses to arrive. I then got up to go to the toilet and on the way there a mouse ran across my path. It was at this point I made my excuses and left. I will never be going back to the Bengal clipper.

Sometimes they have a live singer on the grand piano which fills the, otherwise, somewhat..vacant room. The decor and location are pretty dazzling, and while the food maybe doesn't reach the dizzying heights of fine dining, it sure does taste good in that fancy ole' room! The chicken was chewey and not tender in the slightest. I don't know if it was overcooked or just poor quality preparation/cooking? My dish was very oily. I think it's fair to say that I was not inspired by this restaurant and while our food was perfectly OK, it didn't justify the premium price you paid versus what you might pay in a local suburban curry house. The service was ok (but not great), the atmosphere was a bit too corporate and stale for my liking, albeit it was a nice environment to dine in as there was clearly a bit more attention to detail in terms of the table linen, crockery etc.Ghost jalfrezi and a king prawn nariyal were both tasty and the relevant extras (pilau rice, naan, poppadoms etc.) were all fine too.All in for £50 for 2 people including service, 1 cocktail and tap water was reasonable for London prices but as mentioned before, there are plenty of places that would have done this equally as well for £40 so this gets 3* rather than the 4* it would otherwise deserve.

As ever, the food was very good, Bengal Clipper is well above the standard of the typical British curry house. The pilaf rice is particularly tasty and they have picked some good wines to match which may raise eyebrows at first glance because most of them are French not new world. On this occasion though the service was a bit disappointing and rather slow given that it was Sunday evening and hardly rushed off their feet.

We were not welcomed got the impression we were somewhat of an irritant. I had to ask them to put on some music as the event was a bit embarrassing and begrudgingly they did. The food was passable and therefore VERY over priced. Before we had finished they started turning off the lights and asked us to leave at 3.20pm. Visited with work colleagues both of whom had recommended this restsurant. Location is very stylish at the end of Shad Thames which is a hidden gem of London just off Tower Bridge. This is a large restaurant which at first glance doesn't appear intimate but there are plenty of good tables around the edges that allow for good table conversation. The menu is slightly different to typical Indian restaurant with good clear explanations of the food. Poppadoms were fresh with a traditional selection of accompaniments plenty for the 3 of us. The starters were exceptional with all 3 of us impressed. Mains were very competent with could amount of meat in a very rich sauce. Portions were good as we declined a dessert. On a Thursday at about 10% full it was a very good night out. I do wonder if when it is at full capacity it may be a bit noisy but cannot know for sure. A quirky and fabulous feature was the pianist who was playing a selection of traditional and modern classics. However one could only really appreciate them when visiting the washroom as the piano is right in the corner. On balance a quality Indian restaurant close to Tower bridge. Perfect for the tourist who has grown weary of hotel and chain food offerings but doesnt want to pay the earth for good quality indian cuisine.

About 120 former staff and students of a school met for lunch on Saturday. The food which was a set menu, was well prepared and hot (temperature and chillie!) Scrumptous! The staff very professional giving us excellent service.

Have been going here for years, still a good spot, food nice, service very friendly, always a mixture of people in there, if you fancy a curry in London this is right next to Tower bridge... nice area to walk round, some good pubs close by, good classic British curry house.

Came across this restaurant, after visiting Tower Bridge on a Sunday. A large dining area, with only half a dozen tables filled. There was a help yourself buffet in the middle of the room. PIckles, poppadoms and onion bhajis for starters, though the bhajis were a bit on the dry side. A choice of about 3 decent meat curries (2 chicken and a lamb) and a similar number of vegetarian dishes, including a good dhal. Rice and fresh, hot naan bread to accompany. Not a vast variety of food compared to some of the restaurants we visit near home in West Yorkshire, but we really enjoyed the dishes we had. Really good value though.

O ambiente é ótimo, bem grande. A comida é bem tradicional mesmo. Peça o menu básico de pratos combinados que é bem mais barato e vem um pouco de tudo. Cuidado que a comida é BEM picante! Peça uma cerveja junto!

The Bengal Clipper was already thriving when we moved in down the road in the early 1990s, and it has consistently stuck to its secret of success ever since. There are other really good Indian restaurants nearby like Cafe Spice Namaste (smart) and The Empress (homely), just across the river, but we never tire of the Bengal Clipper. As well as all the classic Indian dishes, it has quite a few with fish (apparently because Bengal is well-known for fish). And if you don't want heavy sauces, there are several nice things spiced but sauce-less like their tandoori mixed grill. It is large and roomy, air conditioned, and we've always been able to get in without booking, even on a Friday evening. Sometimes there's a lady pianist who is an arpeggio specialist, playing jazz standards.

Nice enough venue. There was a live pianist for our trip. The bill was a bit steep but if you can ignore the grumpy service the food is very good.

Well shall I start with the stale pappadoms (twice) the warm beer (the fridge has broken)the service (non existent ) not once did a waiter come over without being called. The chicken was inedible the manager could not speak english and we killed 5 flys whilst waiting for our food which we left. They then tried to charge us for everything. I pointed out that it was still on the table and left.I have been coming here for 15 years, what has happened? No wonder we were the only people in there I should have guessed.

I've been several times and had very good service and super food. I was very disappointed at a situation recently, however. Towards the end of our meal, a large party in the restaurant decided to let two young children run riot in the far end of the space. There were several free tables but myself and friends were very near. There was no attempt at all to rein this kids in and it contrasted sharply with other young children in the party, who were sitting at the table behaving impeccably. These two were banging into things and screaming. We were not far from the end of our meal and decided not to make a big issue out of it, but when we went out, two of us spoke to the manager about it, saying it had spoiled the end of our time there. The approach was ' well, what can we do?' They could, in fact, do a great deal if they were really concerned about the tone and atmosphere of a potentially super venue. Hands-free, child-centred behaviour is a big problem - I wonder what others think and whether they think managers should start issuing a policy or two.

Service was terrible and the average food only made it worse. A quick bite on a Sunday made me rethink coming here ever again based on the attitude of the waiters and poor selection of food

We ducked in here as a group of 10 one lunchtime when our booking in the Italian next door had to be cancelled last minute. We just wanted to get some food quickly and nearby as it was chucking it down with rain.Considering that it was pretty much empty, you would have thought that the staff would have been more pleased to see us, but throughout the meal they were sullen and inattentive. Although removing the cutlery we weren't using, the side plates, empty bottles and unused wine glasses were left on our table and so when our food arrived there was no room. If they had been rushed off their feet with other customers I could have understood. Also, some background music would have been great as it was very quiet and the atmosphere lacking as a result, which isn't what you want when on a birthday lunch with colleagues. It's a shame, because actually everyone thought the food was really tasty and the portions good and it did come out in a timely manner. We definitely all left full and for some reason got a free dish, although I assume that's because they made an extra one by mistake...

I had two visits: one alone when I was treated like a leper, and one as a couple when we were openly despised. After a lengthy delay, I went to the bar to get a menu and wine list, which turned out to be the dessert menu. I ordered a dry martini which came with ice, after the entree which was a tepid, tough, tasteless piece of lamb. Mains were unappetising. Avoid

I've been twice, once dining alone early for a very relaxed and very good thali, enjoying the quiet aspect of the location. Soon after for a end of season cricket dinner of 16 guys on a Saturday 8pm on which was superbly hosted by Abu and team. We were treated to a selection of dishes all very tasty and top notch service. The value is exceptional. Our brief speeches and mild revelry were kindly tolerated. Go for a pint in the Royal Oak opposite before where they also serve takeout bottles of the excellent Harveys beers, which you can bring in the Simply Indian (no corkage). I shall return to Simply Indian, I really appreciate them. The food is well beyond your normal UK Indian takeaways, with incentive and flavourful menu.

Not used for a while as I tried some others but my favourite and still one of the best out there - plenty of flavour especially the Prawn Puri and the Garlic Mushroom - gave a complimentary free side dish too which was a bonus. Will be back - Thanks
