Quality Fish and Chips. Good customer service and everything cooked to order. Little disappointed with portion size, but the quality more than made up for that, one of the best.

This restaurant was one of the best run I’ve ever been too, felt completely welcomed and was a lovely family feel to the place! The food was absolutely delightful and the halloumi was lovely! One of the best halloumi dishes I’ve ever experienced. The chips were cooked to perfection and the owner was so bubbly and welcoming! Definitely would recommend and come again!

Superb cod and chips takeaway last night. Fish was lovely with delicate crisp batter and chips were good, not greasy. Curry sauce was thick and tasty. Great value for what we had. Very impressed and fantastic way to start our short break in Braunton

We booked for a midday lunch, and although it was a Saturday, it was not busy and we were seated with menus quickly but then waited a long time for our order to be the taken. Haddock wasn't available and the large cod was disappointingly thin. However, the cod was of excellent quality and the batter cooked well, tasty and crispy. Sadly, the chips were rather dry and the red wine had oxidised, making the taste bitter. Soft carbonated drinks are through a pump machine. Overall good value but would have liked faster service and moister chips with a thicker piece re the large cod. Also, fresher red wine would be more palatable. A dish of Ketchup only available on request and at a guess comes from Aldi. South 16, you are certainly more than OK - but you used to be superb. However, you are still better than Squires.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips. Plus a battered beef burger, with curry sauce. No matter what you order it's delivered. Great stuff, very friendly and willing to help, no matter what. Please give this chip shop time before any other chip shop in Braunton. Very very good.

Was on the look out for a fish and chip shop and came past this one, which turned out to be the best place in Braunton. We went in (3 kids and 2 adults) for dinner and was immediately seated. We were told that if we wanted savaloy, it would take about 20 minutes to cook and of cause that's what 2 of the children wanted, so the lovely lady went ahead and sorted them out straight away while we had a look at the menu. Our food came quickly and we really enjoyed it! It was definitely one of the best fish and chips we have had. Would 100% recommend this place for either taking away or dinning in.

We placed a large order online for a football club social event. South 16 rang us a couple of times with queries, were happy for us to add to the order and update the order. They were super flexible and accommodating. The food was all ready to go when we went to collect and it was delicious. You couldn't have done more! Thank you so much.

Best fish and chips by a country mile. The batter was deliciously crispy around perfectly flakey cod. We'll certainly be back.

Popped in for lunch for a change from the other chip shop in town. Great decision, service was very friendly and efficient. Fish and chip great ,light batter and crispy. Tea in a proper pot and strong. We shall return when in town again.

Unfortunately South16 has taken a real slide in quality and quantity. I decided to give them a go again after being a Squires customer for a long time. Just so happened that I was tempted by an American Express offer, but it royally backfired. Payed 1/3 more for half the qty. that I would normally get round the corner, so won’t be back. Both me and my wife were left pretty embarrassed after treating the in laws and there not being enough for 2 let alone 4 after spending nearly £30, the only saving grace was the taste of the curry sauce, just a shame that you only get a spoonful. I like to shop local, but when you feel like it’s one sided it’s a really disheartening experience. Hopefully this series of bad reviews encourages a change of direction in a positive way. Good luck South16, I think you’ll need it.

The batter on the fish was thick and not cooked just a thick sloppy goo. The potatoes that they used for chips the very small variety so your chips were just like eating the ends. And having tried chips in several other restaurants I do know that they do not need to use these small potatoes as the other restaurants and chip shops don’t. Sorry to be so blunt but don’t want others to be disappointed over there meals.

Bought 2 lots of fish and chips, they said they did do small fish but what we got were small and the chips were horrendous multi coloured and what we ate tasted awfull. We bought large cod and chips from around the corner the night before and they were lovely and cost £1.50 lessand the fish was actually large

I've held off leaving a review until now, hoping that they will improve, but it's just not going to happen. We have family and friends who have used south 16 regularly, and we have all formed the same opinion..... The owners have given up. The food is below par, and poorly cooked compared with their close competitors, and the front of shop young girls are far too inexperienced to be working unsupervised, as mistakes are a regular occurrence. Website prices do not reflect prices in the shop, not sure why, but don't rely on the website as it's wrong. I have asked around the people I know have eaten from here, the feedback is not good, and they now go elsewhere.... sadly I will now be doing the same. If management reads this, please take a hard look at the way you behave. Customers are the most important thing to your business, and being rude to them, and making them feel like a nuisance, is unacceptable when YOU get the order wrong and the customer complains , your response - (" I must make sure YOUR order is double checked by me every time in future", while pointing a finger at me) suggesting that it's only me who complains about orders being short. No apology, no smile just aggression and a harassed, stressed demeanor and I was your only customer at the time of ordering! I'll leave it there, literally.

We have used South Sixteen many times, but last night the food was sub-standard. 1/2lb Burger tough and burnt, being over-cooked. Large Fish was mainly batter - very little fish and just warm. Needless to say, our fish Burger and chips was resigned to our bin. The wait was long and takeaway service hectic. It may be that they are trying to serve tables and waiting collections, losing track of time. We really do enjoy our fish & chips but a very, very bad meal. We can only say if this is the standard of food and service, then go elsewhere. We have seen a slow decline in food as we have ordered steamed fish which had bones in it and a pizza that once again was hard and overcooked;

We found this when the queue at the one on the main street was huge. A great find - lovely food and great service.

Terrible service, clearly unable to manage online orders when busy. I placed my order 40 minutes before chosen collection time and arrived 10 mins before. I waited at the designated click and collect point as indicated on the sign. No staff members cam out to check on waiting customers. I went in 10 minutes after the booked time to ask how delayed they were to be met by snide remarks and no clear answer. I was eventually given my food nearly 30 minutes late with no apology. pizza were mad ahead of time and weren't as good as normal due to being left in the warmer for too long. While I was waiting overheard other staff members telling walk in orders that there was only a 10/15 minute wait. So there was obviously no point in ordering in advance despite them saying that's their preference for orders.

I’m so sorry, as I really wanted to love the food we had. But it was poor and the service was rude. I couldn’t order online because of the lack of network coverage and intermittent WiFi in the holiday cottage we’re staying in. I rang and a lady, clearly very busy, was reluctant to take a phone order. I explained I couldn’t get on the app or website so needed to place an order via phone. It took a while as she was trying to manage volume of food to meet our order - so thanks for checking you had what we wanted. However the service was rather dismissive. We collected the food at the right time. It was ordinary. The chips were hard in the centre and not crispy. The fish was ok but a bit tasteless. And they forgot part of our order so we had to go back to pick it up. I’m really sorry to say that this was disappointing both in terms of service and food.

Stopped off on way back from Woolacombe Beach. As we only wanted chips we were served within 5 minutes despite the shop being very busy. People were waiting for their fish orders. Good sized portions of nice chunky chips. No skinny, burnt ones. Best chip shop in the area we feel.

Popped into this shop early evening when first opened. Ordered steak & kidney pie and chips money taken, then told no pies so I ordered chicken burger was told no chicken burger!! So looking through the menus deciding what else to have and was then told they do have pies but would take 10 mins to cook but also found a chicken burger so i stayed with the burger and paid the extra. Then told would take 10 mins so i could of had the pie anyway!!! When it finally arrived the chicken burger was like biting into a rice crispie cake it was so hard and dry, it was all coating dont think i found any chicken and the chips....well lets just say they didnt live up to the reviews i have read. Unfortunately wont be using again will pop around the corner and try the other one

Had fish and chips tonight before visiting the Christmas Market in Braunton. It was quite busy but our order was taken quickly. We had heard very good reviews as we live in the next town but had never eaten here. Would definitely recommend it, very good service and excellent fish and chips. Will definitely return.

We didn’t eat in this restaurant we just had takeaway fish and chips, I don’t know whether they’ve change the batter for what but they put the fish one on top of the other and wrap them,consequently when we got home as we removed the greaseproof paper between the fish and chips we finished up with virtually no batter, which we have to say we were quite glad because it was very soft

Big portions, freshly cooked I have never had a bad experience here so I'm guessing the other reviews are maybe not entirely honest. Much better than squires round the corner. I travel from Ilfracombe to get my fish and chips here.

Visited here whilst on holiday. We were recommended to visit by one of the locals and I'm so glad we took his advice. Firstly, the resaurant is dog friendly so we were able to take our small dog in with us Secondly, some of the best fish and chips I've ever tasted well cooked with crispy non greasy batter. Staff were very efficient and friendly, Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

Tucked away just off the High St but definitely worth finding. Super delicious Plaice and Cod and chips all cooked to order. Friendly service and super value for money. Highly recommended

We were staying in nearby Croyde and were looking for a good fish and chip shop after a day on the very nice beach at Croyde. We chose this place because it had good reviews and i'm pleased to say that we were not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and the food was fantastic. Exactly how fish and chips should be cooked.

Called in here for fish&chips; had a special it was yummy not at all greasy will certainly go again good service food was piping hot well done .

To keep it short and sweet so to say, ordered a phone order, was asked when I wanted to collect it, happy days. Upon arrival I was ignored and the person behind me got served first! Customer service-zero.

We popped into this fish restaurant about 7 pm on a Friday and to our delight were able to be seated , there were 3 of us , it was busy as it’s take away as well . Staff were friendly and helpful , the order was taken within 5/10 minutes and our drinks brought promptly. They sell a wide range of drinks even some beers , wine and spirits and drinks for children and hot beverages, smoothies etc . The food was lovely and nicely presented with generous portions and not to pricy for Braunton. I would recommend this restaurant nice instead of takeaway for a change and very enjoyable. Parking is advised on local car park reasonable price only short walk as there is double yellow lines outside but work the walk . I have had takeaway from this venue and it was equally as nice .

I ate beautiful freshly cooked lightly battered haddock, just the way I like it. My husband had cod, chips & curry sauce, he really enjoyed it. We had a young lady waitress who looked after us

Really good experience. Called them before visiting, so they could prepare my order. On arrival, my order was already being cooked in the fryer. Very helpful and efficient staff enabled me to pick up my order without having to wait too long. A very good experience.

We have ‘eaten in’ & had take away here. The cod is simply delicious, crispy tasty batter, not greasy and beautiful meaty fish. The chips were well cooked, and were just the right amount. The restaurant service was friendly and efficient, counter service was a little slow, having to wait some time, but well worth the wait. My only complaint would be the change in pickled onions.. not as nice as they used to be!

Visited today to try out South 16. It was not disapointing. Served swiftly and food cooked to order. Fish nice, chips not greesy, other food was ok. All in all a good visit.

Next time someone tells you it's just around the corner - please go there. This restaurant is the bees knees, friendly, personable, good value and delicious food, not to mention the only fish and chip shop for miles that serve 'rock' or Huss whatever you want to call it, don't let the glitz and lights of the competitors sway you this is worth nipping round the corner - the merlot was great thank you

The best crispy batter on cod and it's much quieter and shorter waits for takeaway as it is set back from the road.

This place is great. Never a massive queue like Squires, but the food is just as good. There is a nice area for dining in also. The £10 special is great value. The service is friendly and efficient. This is my go to chippy in Braunton.

Delightful staff which served us promptly and cheerfully. Our whole party were delighted with their meals. My haddock, chips and curry sauce was the best I had eaten in a long while. I would highly recommend this fish and chip restaurant. Can’t wait to go again.

Tried south16 in August after being a squires lover and can honestly say I was disappointed. My son had a child’s sausage and it was so small he could have eaten it twice. Very stingy. At squires it’s cheaper and you get 2 sausages and way more chips. The chips were also soggy and fish the same. Honestly not again

We have used this takeaway for many years while staying in Braunton. Usually the food is very well cooked, crispy batter, fluffy chips and we look forward to visiting. Tonight however was a completely different story - the chips were soft and soggy, the batter soft on the fish, the chicken nuggets had an odd flavour. We requested battered sausages but got home to discover we had been given plain sausages. It was one of the worst takeaways we have ever had and the majority of the food ended up in the bin. Hopefully the food will improve again should we revisit in the future.

They had a variety of different choices as well as fish and chips, I personally had a veggie burger and it was very nice. Good service time but didn’t have their specialty burger which was a bit disappointing since we got there as soon as they opened for dinner, 5pm. All in all good value for money and I would visit again :)

Brilliant fish and chips which where freshly cooked really crisp and not at all greasy. Large plate of food with nice glass of beer. Best fish and chips had in a very long time.

Beautifully cooked fish, crispy chips & a healthy option if everything for those of us not wanting fried food. Then there were the milkshakes & puddings. 4 very happy & satisfied tummies left the building. We were able to sit down straight away & the service was great. Definitely worth a visit.

After a day's walking this eatery was a welcome place to sit and rest our weary feet. The staff were really attentive and the restaurant has the benefit of being licensed so a locally produced cider went down a treat. The food was excellent too -cod and chips and scampi and chips. Really hot and freshly cooked. Apple and custard for pudding finished off the meal well.

Sorry, I hate to leave a poor review, but the food here was really no good at all. Soggy batter on the cod and the chips tasted tired and stale. Maybe they had an off day.

Although attached to the South 16 Fish and Chip Takeaway this place offers much more! I love eating from their fish menu (salmon being my favourite) but they also offer other menu options including a good variety of pizzas. For over 60s they do a "Special Lunchtime Meal" comprising a small cod, chips, peas and tea or coffee for a reduced menu price. Very popular, so bear that in mind if visiting for lunch.

We all had fish, chips and mushy peas. Food was great. Lovely and hot and the batter wasn't heavy and greasy. Really enjoyed it.

This was the best take out meal during our stay. Staff were friendly and very accommodating , fish and chips were of excellent quality and Toms Pies were to die for . An all round excellent meal and very very good value.

Speak of Fish and Chips in Braunton and thoughts turn immediately to Squires. Squires are excellent. We have visited many times over the last 40 years of holidays.An unexpected queue made us to try another favourite, South 16 just round the corner. We have eaten here over the years and dare I suggest that they are as good as Squires. They, like Squires, have friendly helpful staff, the restaurant is spotlessly clean,and the food is beautiful. The waiting staff ensured that we had all that we needed, even to the extent of cooking 2 sausages for our Border Collie brothers as a treat. The overall cost of our meals and drinks were below what we estimated and I think cheaper than Squires would have been. The lady owner of South 16 is a very nice person, really interested in Customer service. Many thanks and best wishes.

Came here as a group of 4 and a young child. Served fast by friendly staff. Good variety on the menu and children's menu. over 60's deal is good value for money includes tea or coffee in it. food arrived fast, good sized portions, child's portion was plentyful(one with beans)

Went today asked if any of the vegetarian options could be vegan. Was told that all veg food is fried in same oil as meat and fish items, so not really vegetarian as advertised

Had the most delicious cod in batter from South 16. Without doubt the best in Braunton. Massively generous portion. Superb batter and perfectly cooked fish. Chips were great too. Cheerful service too which you don’t get at Squires.

Great value fish and chips and so tasty and succulent, freshly cooked. We ordered our food and waited for a few minutes whilst it all cooked from fresh. People came and went and the seating area was full.

If you want a good honest freshly cooked meal that tastes amazing and is served by a friendly welcoming bunch and at a very good price then you have to give them a try. It may not have the glistening decor of some of the places on the main road but I swear I think I've now tasted the best chicken burger ever, we will be making this a regular stop when we come to stay again, thanks for bringing a smile on a very rainy Sunday afternoon.

Cracking!! Tasty, freshly cooked and not greasy at all! Does need a little bit of a wait if needing cooking but worth it.

We now use South 16 for our local fish & chip takeaway instead of the others in the village. The pizzas are good, cooked perfectly with any choice of topping & the kids fish box is value for money. You can book your order over the phone and 15 minutes later it is waiting for you. Highly recommend as the staff are always polite and the food is good.

Staying in Woolacombe we were recommended South 16 and it was well worth the drive out .The fish was really tasty and cooked in a very light n crispy batter ,the chips were good .8 of us ate dinner and not one complaint .Some of us managed to squeeze in dessert too .The homemade Lemon Meringue Pie was to die for !! The service was friendly and prompt but not rushed .Thank you Sally and team ,we will be back

Went with the kids for lunch and it's was outstanding especially the home made fish cakes..! In my opinion of a higher standard than Squires..! A++++++++++

We got a take away whilst on holiday in Georgeham and we all thought it was simply delicious! Chips were amazing and the fish was good quality and beautifully cooked. Only minor criticism was that the chip portions were on the small side. Highly recommend this place. A million times better than the awful Miles chip van that stops in Georgeham on a Tuesday!

When camping in Croyde we always pop-in for a evening dinner and we are never disappointed. I washed down my plaice and chips with a local cloudy cider which was great. It maybe not flash Squires inside but service is friendly and you are not rushed or pressured to leave once you have finished. Only downside is that the sauces are in sachets which I find annoying. ( my wife aways asks me to open them) .

Whilst South 16 sits in the shadow of Braunton's leading fish shop, it is still a fine eatery, a little more grounded than its neighbour. Good fish and chips, good service and good value.

As per title...but you can have burgers or pizzas, eat in or take away. If you don't like batter you can have steamed fish.Recommended

Excellent fish as I only have it steamed and feel I can taste the freshness without the batter, but this time opted for the salmon which was succulent and a good sized portion. The staff are always very very courteous .

We decided to try South 16 as we had tried elsewhere previously. It was marvellous! The staff were informative friendly and helpful. We had takeaway but the restaurant looked busy too. The food was amazing, so fresh and tasty. We attempted to go back for more on our last day of our holiday but had stupidly not checked opening times so we went home wanting more. The food was the best we had all holiday and would recommend them highly

Had friends down to stay and decided to have a take away.The consensus was fish and chips.What a great choice South 16 was.The service was excellent and the fish and chips were fantastic. Easily the best takeaway in Braunton. Great food at sensible prices.

I've tried other fish and chip shops in Braunton but South 16 is my favourite by far and I only go to this one now when I visit the area. The chips are blanched first before being fried and taste wonderful - the fish is perfect too and has a light, crispy batter. The staff are friendly and helpful and I just love going there. If I lived locally I'd go in all the time. I know that a lot of locals do go there because they tried it, loved it - and at the end of the day that's what it's all about :) Try it for yourself and spread the word like I am :)
