Good service but 4.5 star must be based on busy summer season, it does not meet that star rating anymore. Our food was deep fried, reheated or kept hot for too long. Very disappointed after reading such good reviews. I would not recommend anything if this is the out of season standard.

The drop down options only allow one reason for a visit! The fact is that during a week's stay in Morthoe we went to the pub every day and enjoyed dinner, lunches and drinks there. The pub is run very professionally and all the staff are excellent - welcoming, friendly and efficient. There is a very good range of beers and ciders and the food is really good. The outside seating, including a covered pergola area, is great and, overall, this is a wonderful country pub.

Call in for food and a drink. Unfortunately Chick Fest was on so the menu was sparse. The kitchen wasn't busy at the time of ordering, Spicy bean burger with a side order of chips, Chilli Nachos, Pulled pork and cheesy chips. So the burger arrived, no chips, (had to ask twice), then the pulled pork was with nachos and the chilli came on chips!!! Not exactly a difficult order to get right. Haven't been here for 20 years because it was awful and needless to say won't be going again.

What a disappointment, went here with a friend of mine, we had been told about how good this place is and that the chef they had was doing good food. We got there an were told that half the menu wasn’t available but they had some substitutions. Well we won’t be coming back, the pulled pork dirty fries or what ever it was ment to be looked like it came out of a can, if I’m brutally honest it looked like cat food! My friend had the goat curry and it was below average, not much taste and bland! It seemed like the staff hadn’t been told about the menu changing as they looked confused. I’m sorry but we won’t be returning.

What a lovely pub. Nice warm greeting. Clean tables. We had Sunday lunch which was cooked to perfection for both my partner and myself. My partner is a vegetarian and simply adored her nut-roast, whilst I went for a traditional roast beef which along with veggies was a very, very enjoyable bite. The food was delivered hot & was fresh. This must rate as one of the worse pub meals I have ever had! Supposed to be steak and ale pie. First it wasn't a pie. Pies have a pastry base containing meat usually cooked in gravy/ale. This so called pie had some unbelievably dry cold meat sitting on a plate, with a cold undercooked pastry topping!! The topping was white when it should be slightly brown if it is cooked. Only managed to eat this junk by asking for some hot gravy which my wife and I used to soak the cold meat and pastry topping. Interesting that another customer sent her meal back saying it was cold! Sad because I used to use this pub about ten years ago and my favourite meal was steak and ale pie which was brilliant. Obviously not the same owners/chef. Will definitely not be going back!1

Excellent pub with great choice of local beers. We have visited on previous occasions when staying in Woolacombe and walking in the area, but this was the first time that we have sat outside in the sun having lunch and it was great to do so. There was a good choice of sandwiches on offer, although sadly when we visited the crab was unavailable. We had the Coronation Chick Pea and Cheese and Chutney sandwiches, both of which were really tasty and came with a side salad. Nice selection of local beers and cider including Otter Bitter and Otter Bright and they were well kept and in excellent condition. Service was quick and the bar staff were really friendly.

We were on Holiday in Woolacombe and decided to Give the meals a second chance as the food quality did go down. I must be honest and say the meals were outstanding, most of us experienced the ploughman’s great plate. To make this meal a 10 out 10 I would like to see a couple more types of cheeses. Apart from that would highly recommend.

Friendly staff but shame the Ploughman’s I had didn’t match up!! One slice of shop bought fatty ham and a small wedge of mediocre cheddar. The bread roll was the best part of this, lovely and crusty and warm. There was about a whole bag of mixed leaves salad that was old, yellow and even a couple of soggy bits mixed in - obviously not been checked before serving. I realise I should have pointed all this out and asked for a refund on the £12.50 paid but was on holiday and felt rather embarrassed but did show the guy who appeared in charge when leaving as I handed him the plate-no offer of refund so left and I feel justified in leaving this review.
