South Hams Brewery & Taphouse in South Hams

Stumbled across the brewery whilst exploring the local area, opted to try their paddle of 4x 1/3 pints which gave a good range of their beers and ciders. Staff were lovely and offered great recommendations and information about the drinks on offer. Definitely recommend trying the Sundown ale and the Elderflower Cider, I even took home a ‘growler’ as I was so pleased! Although we didn’t eat when we were there I’ll definitely be coming back to eat when we’re next in the area as everything coming out looked delicious 😋

***AVOID IF HUNGRY, COLD, VEGETARIAN OR LIKE A CHOICE** Never usually leave a bad review but had such a poor family Christmas meal here. 7 people and 2 dogs and booked in to the brewery house by the fire. One vegetarian in the group who disliked beetroot. Emailed prior to visit to ask if there were alternatives and no response. Was also told on the phone always a choice of white meat but this wasn't the case. Set menu and when I say set there was no variations. I honestly believe the chef plates up on a Friday and kids warm up in a microwave. The first thing our party of 7 was told was there was only 2 pork meals left so we could only choose beef or mussels. Then when asked if the vegetarian who doesn't like beetroot could have more veg this was a issue. The food arrived and the vegetarian person got 1 extra roast potato instead of the beetroot Wellington. None of the other plates had cauliflower cheese or root mash on them and we had to ask where they were. 10 minutes later we were Brought 2 tiny containers of both to serve between 4 people. The serving was for 1 or 2 at best. The thing was the vegetarian meal had these on their plate in a small quantity so it wasn't like chef if at all there was one had forgotten these things were in his kitchen. The food was cold and there was hardly any of it. 1 small Yorkshire pudding, 2 roast potatoes, 1 quarter baton of a carrot, 1 half baton of parsnip, 1 broccoli floret as garnish. Plenty of meat but not rare as advertised and wasn't like carved beef but thin slices. Desert was a choice of 2 but were told that there was only 4 rice puddings left. The fire was turned off or let run down not long after we arrived so we were all freezing. Can honestly say we left cold, hungry and very disappointed! Wont be returning.

The perfect top room. First rate beers and ciders served in a simple setting, in amongst the brewery itself. The staff are amazingly friendly and the taproom itself functions like a proper pub. The Best I have visited-anywhete in the world.

Excellent evening with the children, great atmosphere, staff couldn't do enough to help - even making special off menu garlic butter pizza for our fussy daughter. Definitely recommend their pizza Fridays!

Excellent brewery/taphouse/farmshop with great local ale types but also different beer styles with a Southern English twist. We enjoyed our visit in the sunshine and it's definitely a recommended spot to visit. They serve snacks and food as well and the service is great.

Fabulous range of beers and ciders, friendly staff and excellent prices - a paddle of four 1/3 pint glasses is only £5.

Returned in 2023, chaotic service from hard-working staff, took 50 minutes to get a pot of tea and a sandwich and had to chase both items. Beer from brewery still great but will not visit the café again.

Hard working staff, good brewery, well organised and great food - what's not to like?

Ok ish pizza, but very expensive. Also only 2 parasols for the whole place. We counted 4 other table complain. You need to invest in more shade, as it’s too hot to eat in the glaring summer heat.

A party of six visited this evening for the set veggie meal at the Tap House. The food consisted of a lump of mashed spuds swimming in a mushroom gravy. I can honestly say that i have left more on my plate than what they gave us. Wont be eating here again in a hurry. We arrived at eight and were back home for nine filling up on beans on toast.

A really nice seafood salad and an excellent pint.

Fantastic food and atmosphere coupled with even better brewery prices for fine ales. Will definitely go again and highly recommended.

Lovely place. Nice selection of plants & crafty shops. The crafts on display change from month to month. Nice farm shop selling local produce. Cafe has a good selection of quality food made from local produce. Brewery on site. Pizza oven on site. Entertainment on some nights in season. Caravan & motorhome site within walking distance. Beach within walking distance.

We loved the tap house, great drinks, tasty food and very welcoming. We visited the area and came most days for a drink and also the farm shop. Attention to detail is fantastic! Highly recommend

Pop in for a coffee very quiet at 11.30

Wouldn't be fair to give more or less. I'm hoping it was an isolated incident, but waited about 40 mins for food only then to be told that the computer hadn't put any of the orders through to the kitchen. We couldn't wait any longer so had to leave without eating. Also, didn't have the soup that was advertised, or the chilli & ginger cider.

Great food and service even in these difficult times. Very reasonable both on shop and restaurant. Brought some beer which is brewed on sits, so looking forward to trying. 5 star plus.

Fab! Get a Growler to take to campsite!

Very good place to eat and drink, although not advertised very well its a great find. Staff are very friendly and will give information on the evening opening times and what food they do in the evenings. Ask about other food available that are not on the menus ie cakes and scones.

Great afternoon of music and fine ales in the sunshine

Met up with friends for lunch. We had booked and asked for an outside table but undercover. Waited a few minutes for table to be cleaned. Coffee ordered and we were informed that there was a 35 minute wait for food, not a problem, our order taken at 12, served about 25 minutes later. Prawn salad delicious, 2 burgers and a soup, all good. Unfortunately it started to rain, our table was just covered, but we did have to shuffle up so as not to get wet. Very busy. Pleasant helpful staff.

This lot are fantastic. We turned up pretty late, they were nothing short of brilliantly accommodating. Tasters past your ears, beer to die for and the prices to match. Give these guys a look if you're in the area

An amazing little find. It's an adorable farm shop with some beautiful craft stalls to look at local art and crafts. The prices at the cafe are amazing. We went back to the brewery twice as the growlers are well priced and the beer is very tasty.

What can be better sat drinking and eating watching the brewery in full swing producing the next fantastic batch of real ale's. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and really friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit!

Brilliant little brewery can't wait to be staying a little closer

Just visited whilst having lunch in the cafe next door. In the shed of the South Hams Brewery with a great selection of beers. Will visit again next time in the area, in the evening for beer and pizzas.

The staff here are very friendly , today we had Sunday lunch which is well worth having ,but do book as it gets very busy .

Lovely beers brewed on site plus friendly cafe with great pizzas and a general store with local butchers counter. Reasonably large number of bedding plants on sale and several small independent craft type shops.

Friendly service and good food at the South Hams Brewery & Taphouse.

We've been coming to this place regularly for years. We've enjoyed cream teas, light lunches and shopping for plants outside and groceries inside. The shop is well stocked with local produce. The staff are helpful and efficient. They've also got a nice play area for children. During the lockdown, you can order by phone and if you live locally they will deliver to your home, which is great. It's well worth a visit for the scenery alone as it looks over Slapton Leay to the coast at Torcross.

Great beer, nothing like a Wild Blonde🍺

Not sure if we went at a bad time, but when we arrived it wasn’t clear who was supposed to serve us (there was nobody behind the bar) and the only people in sight were cleaning brewing equipment. Eventually somebody came through from the cafe, and we were seated and served. I had some decent beers which were well-brewed, but they were straddling a sort of middle ground between trad English beers, and more hop-forward American/New World styles, and I felt they could be a little more adventurous (maybe there isn’t the market for it in the area though). Overall though, a cool place which I imagine would be great in the summer.

I like beer! The beer they produce is consistent and really good. Large range. Really good service. They have supplied beer for several events that I have been involved with in the area. Try it.

Cracking brewery in South Devon near TorCross. Very good selection of Real ales brewed. All very popular in and around Devon. If you in the area pop in and say hello.

2 warehouse sheds, one making pizzas and one brewing beer for mutual benefit. great selection of cheap craft beers on tap. (£3.30 per pint) and ciders with 2 liter take out option for £5!!!. Great wood fired pizza in 2 sizes. Artisan surroundings amongst the brewing equipment. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere, perfect with kids in the day or evening. we loved the whole experience.

Small brewery, part of the Stokeley Farm complex. My son bought 3 different small kegs of beer & cider whilst we were on holiday. The cider was very tasty, not dry at all. They sell mango cider which was delicious. Sit at the bar & have a tasting session. Then buy your favourite. Then sit outside and have a meal & coffee in the sunshine or indoors at the cafe. Plenty of free car parking

A hidden gem. Excellent and very well priced beers. Sadly not normally open in the evening but they will open in the evening for groups by arrangement. Overnight parking available for motorhomes or at the C&MC site next door. Lot of walking opportunities locally.
