We needed a lunch venue for 3 of us, somewhere between North West Staffordshire and Birmingham on Saturday and after a couple of searches The Soup Kitchen came up as the best option. We found easy nearby car park (complete with EV charging which was a bonus) We entered the building and were greeted immediately on arrival and there was no queue. We were then shown immediately to a small booth, which was nice and cosy. The menu was very comprehensive and we were very much spoilt for choice. We had an iced green tea, pot of tea and a water while we decided. We settled on Rosti and Breakfast Staffordshire Oatcake and were not disappointed. We then visited the cakes on display at the entrance to decide on what to have next. We had lemon meringue pie and coffee and salted caramel gateau, which were very enjoyable. Having seen some large sundae glasses with straws being taken to other tables, we finished with a couple of chocolate milkshakes. All in all, it was a very enjoyable lunch and a great find. There were plenty of staff and we never had to wait long to get somebodies attention. It was a very popular place as was evident by how busy it was, even with it being a little out of sight from the main part of the town centre. It reminded me very much of a proper teahouse such as Betty's in York. We all enjoyed our visit and would definitely visit again if in the area.

This is a truly amazing tardis of a restaurant in Stafford. The place may look small and there was a queue to get in, but once in the space opens out to a substantial place, and the team work hard and fast to get you in. The decor is charming and reflects the history of the building. The menu is vast and variable, and the soup I had was wonderful, complemented with a chili toastie. This is an amazingly good place and well worth a visit!

Excellent full English with one member of the party having a vegetarian full English. It was my son's 29th birthday. We hadn't informed them. He opened his cards & we sang Happy Birthday quietly. After we'd finished eating they brought a cupcake with a candle in & sang Happy Birthday to him. Incredible! They were so astute!

What a lovely find. This quaint little cafe in a beautiful old building, with waiters and waitresses in traditional black clothing and the most exquisite food. We had lunch sandwiches which were beautifully fresh and tasted lovely . All the food arriving at the tables around us looked lovely . Good value too

Started well. We were seated quickly even though it was busy and waitress came straight over for our order. I had the ploughmans which was good value for money. My husband had the omelette which was a really small portion. What made me give a lower score was the cost of a small orange squash (with tap water), £2.75! That can't be justified.

We had high expecations for this place after reading the reviews but we were left bitterly disapointed and wished we had gone somewhere else. We were seated quickly enough but it took ages to actually have our orders taken and just as long for our food to come and we were offered no appologies for the wait. The food was very poor value for money, did not taste good and left us feeling rather sick afterwards. When we ordered the roast dinner we were expecting it to actually be cooked but the potatos were still raw in the middle and the meat tasted like it was from those microwave meals you get in supermarkets. We complained but nothing was done and were not offered any refunds or appologies. The service is lack luster at best with basic things missing, we ordered water for the table but we were just given a jug and had to ask seperately for some glasses, food was served to us without any cutlery and despite us asking you for the bill we ended up having to chase you down simply to pay for it. Frankly it felt like were the ones working there not you. This was our first visit to Stafford and left a rather poor taste in our mouths of the place. We'd of been better of food and service wise if we had just gone to a local fastfood resturant, at least with them they're not pretending something their not.

Popped in for a drink and cake. Loved it's old-fashioned vibe and the toilets were decorated nicely and very clean. Customer service was top-notch with a family vibe, I don't know if it is family-owned or not but it felt like it. Excellent choices on the menu with lots of gluten free options - will definitely be back!

I’ve not visited this restaurant for a couple of years but my parents like it so we went for lunch there on Tuesday. I was so disappointed. 3 of us ordered bacon and cheese oatcakes. They are the worst oatcakes I have eaten, the bacon was streaky, so full of fat and basically raw. Bearing in mind it’s not difficult to cook an oatcake and with a cost of over £9.00 each it’s fair to say we were disappointed . We let our server know and she gave us 2 free scones as an apology. Not sure what’s happened to this place as it’s always had a good reputation but I won’t be returning any time soon.

What an absolute gem the Soup Kitchen in Stafford is! Tucked away in a very historical and atmospheric lane leading to the church, the building is so interesting. The food was good but the service was exceptional. I would like to particularly thank Ewan, our waiter for breakfast, who not only served us very well, but showed his love of his work place and his desire to give us a good service by showing us around the upstairs of the building. Thank you Ewan and thank you to the Soup Kitchen.

Have been going to the Soup Kitchen for many years and this is the first time I've been very disappointed. The service was poor, our server was rude. It was difficult trying to get their attention and I ended up going to the counter myself only to be told that it was waitresses survive only! The food standard has gone downhill and not a patch of what it used to be. With a lot of new staff perhaps they just need to be trained in customer service. It's such a shame as it used to be a great place.

We are old Staffordians who returned for a meet up with friends at the old Soup Kitchen. It has the same old charm it always used to have but has grown in size since we were last here. Its a lovely place, there is no doubt. And a gem in the midst of a Stafford that is sadly declining to a drab looking place compared to how it used to be. The food was always great with good portions however times appear to be changing and the prices are not as keen as they used to be. An order of a medium latte and a tuna melt toastie resulted in a pretty small coffee and a toastie, beautifully presented and sliced diagonally, which was disappointing and didn't match up to the £13 or so quid paid for the two items. I know its a toastie and I guess we pay for the privilege of being in a nice place...but this was just taking the mick a bit. The other orders were slightly better but still missed the mark a little. The sandwich options looked a bit better and probably the best of the four dishes was the omelette, which at least satisfied our friend's hunger. The wait was a little long too as it was busy and the kitchen was obviously doing its best but couldn't fully keep up. Finally, our lunch trip ended with us having to buy a second lunch from somewhere else after we left to fill us up. Strangely after a number of years away, we have been invited back to the Soup kitchen for another get together next weekend with family...so we will see, but this time I definitely wont go for a toastie.

Something I really liked was they were so accommodating to wheelchair users in providing a ramp for them to access the establishment. Top Marks. Will certainly return hopefully in the summer and next time have a full meal.

The cafe/restaurant was excellent value with well served food, good choices and staff eager to please. The Soup Kitchen is well known to Staffordian locals, but visitors should check out this gem. This place is full of history and has been a staple of Stafford for centuries. The staff (especially Mandy) are friendly and professional. The food is well prepared and properly cooked, but comparable in pricing to a Wetherspoons (who cook frozen pre-packed food in a microwave). For price to value The Soup Kitchen is the best cafe/resteraunt in Stafford by a significant margin.

We used to visit The Soup Kitchen regularly but this was our first visit for a few years. Disappointed to find prices much increased and food standards not so good. A cheddar and branston sandwich consisted of 4 fairly small triangles in total about 2 slices of what appeared to be sliced bread with a thin slice of cheese and branston pickle. With some chips but no salad garnish this cost £10.90. From the kids menu bangers and mash consisted of one sausage and one small scoop of mash. Beans could have been added but our grandson does not like them. The price of £5.95 did include a dessert which was 3 thin pieces of jam sponge in custard. Even so for the small portion this was very poor value. This venue is a Stafford tradition but I think in danger of relying on past reputation - there are many other excellent cafes and restaurants in Stafford offering better value.

Old-fashioned cafe in the best way. Lovely building on the town walking trail, higgledy piggledy collection of rooms, lots of choice for food and drink

Great experience, love the traditional decor and friendly atmosphere. I would recommended a visit when in Stafford. The staff are friendly, the service is of a high standard and the food was tasty

Incredibly busy, packed with tables very close together and service was so slow nearly walked out. Not sure if it's a staffing issue with Covid, but when our light lunches came, one order was incorrect and had to go back. The salad was not as...

Went with daughter and 4 Yr old and 6yr old grandchildren. Arrived at 12.30pm. Moderately busy but our food arrived quickly and hot, lovely lunch and the children had the children's sandwiches and decorated their own Halloween themed cakes and cookies. What a brilliant idea....

I frequently visit Stafford as a convenient place for a few friends to travel and meet for lunch. This was a really good find, one of the best so far. The home prepared food was well worth the short wait and we will undoubtedly return...

Staff are probably their main strength. Decor is great too. I had the soup but it tasted more like off the shop soup. Coronation chicken was nice though

Fab relaxing lunch here on Thursday. Lovely food well presented and reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Good range of "homemade" items especially on ploughman's. Hot food excellent also. Certainly recommend.

What a lovely way to spend our Saturday afternoon. Lunch here was lovely. The only critique would be the amount of crisps. 4 crips was a bit poor! Other than that the food was delicious. The tea was very tasty too. I’m very picky with tea. But This was lovely. Staff were wonderful and was smiling and seemed happy which is always nice to see. We will be visiting again soon. As I very much enjoyed the peace and quiet away from main cafe/bars.
