Soul Sushi in Edinburgh, City of

I got take away. Took over 30 minutes to receive two sushi rolls and one portion of gyozas. A customer who I saw was also waiting when I arrived at the shop received her curry just before me, so also waited over 30mins just for a curry. Not acceptable. I don’t know if online deliveries are being prioritised or if there needs to be a new system, because the amount I got should take 15-20mins tops. I would’ve complained to the worker but she left immediately after handing me my food. Food is good, however due to that wait I won’t be returning.

Came in for lunch this afternoon and really impressed with the quality of the food. Ordered two poke bowls and salmon sashimi and all delicious. Polite and friendly server and we were offered free water with our meal

If this is a 4.5* Edinburgh is faring bad when it comes to sushi. Impression I had is my sushi was made by an unsupervised and untrained apprentice. The nigiri was half the market average size, the sashimi on the other hand was a thick slab, cut the wrong way, with unpicked fishbone. Everything else was wonky and irregular in size/shape. Ingredient quality was below average, both rice and fish were subpar. This was hobestly worse than Asda/Panku display sushi. Ordered via app, but the issues I had were not related to delivery. I would not order again. Stay away.

Best sushi in Edinburgh - authentic, fresh and simply delicious. The manager Calvin is incredible friendly and very accommodating. All sushi can be made to order and customised. All round wonderful experience. Thank you!

Very tasty food, they also got student discounts! We were there on Monday evening and the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Came for a quick lunch, we got a chicken and a sweet potato Katsu, and a veg gyoza. Both were absolutely delicious and huge portions, we couldn’t finish it! Very cheap meals here as well and they do a very generous student discount for lunch. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will be back!

Have taken their sushi from a showcase refrigerator. When opened right after the store visit - tuna has gray colour and a strong odour, just thrown it away as I do not think it’s safe to it.

Great atmosphere and a great place for a quick meal. Food is also very fresh.

Food was tasty but was not accommodated when we asked for an item to be made without the spicy topping for a younger child. They made the item exactly the same as the display cabinet one. Child went hungry and we had to go to Sainsbury's for a sushi tray there instead after.

Ordered from Hungry Panda, the student sets of food. The cashier is friendly; besides the economical pricesx here the chicken Katsu rice is so delicious and of very sufficient quantity and quality. Their pork gyozas are very well fried and very tasty. I also love their packaging, every piece of dish and the whole delivery package are very well designed and clean and sealed. Because I did take away, the eat in environment is also really good, tidy and clean, it smells good, looks cozy and comfortable.

Miso soups arrived empty and spilled all over the other food, which made everything not edible. Utensils were requested for the order, but I didn’t get any. Probably shop knew that if food is ruined you don’t need utensils anymore 👍🏻 Thank you for ruined dinner.

Quick, good for lunch. Teriyaki chicken is great, lots of rice and the veg tastes fresh. All the condiments you need are available.

Always been my go-to place for lunch. Very generous price with student discount. The taste may not be comparable to proper Japanese restaurants but it’s decently good for its price. Their staffs are nice as well, there’s once they put the wrong ingredient in my poke bowl and the staff compensated me with a set of Gyoza (pic. 4).

The sushi is some of the best I've ever had and the service is fantastic. Highly recommended.

Salmon teriyaki... the salmon looked like someone had chewed it, spat out and fried it again. Dry, overfried, very strange shapes and just horrible. The vegetable gyoza were okay, but the little cup with the sauce was barely full, I honestly wondered if it's someone's leftover... Just a big nope from me. If I hadn't paid at ordering, I would have said something, but in any case, stay as far away as you can. The last photo was of me being done, done and done with it. Really hope I don't get food poisoning...

Regular in here most weeks for their pumpkin katsu curry. I have tried a few katsu currys around edinburgh but this is by far my favourite one

Had a satisfactory takeaway meal from Soul Sushi. We ordered the Tuna Box and the California Roll Box. The rice was above expectations and tasted very good. The quality of the tuna was average but expected within this price range. The staff were friendly and apologetic as the food took slightly longer than expected to arrive. Overall a good experience and would recommend this place for anyone looking for sushi in Edinburgh.

Food was a shambles when it arrived. Miso soup inside sushi roll packages, bag soaked. Soul Sushi remade order & we drove there to pick it up. Driver obviously didn’t care. Would never use Just Eat again.

Food didn't arrive. I was charged though. Waiting on a refund. I phoned the restaurant & the person on the phone said the driver just hadn't arrived. I have been in Soul Sushi a couple of times & always enjoyed the food. The person on the phone seemed very nice. It's a real shame. Hope to see my refund soon.

I just got a delivery from this restaurant. One of the worst sushis I’ve ever had. Tasted like it had been in the fridge for days. No soy sauce or wasabi was sent with it. The gyozas were ice cold. The wrong miso soup was sent (I ordered miso with salmon and spinach and they sent me a plain one) and it tasted like the miso paste had gone bad. Overall a terrible take away experience and don’t recommend it to anyone!

A chic and inviting atmosphere, although I got my sushi to take away! Traditional Japanese décor, dimmed lighting, and soothing music. I tried the freshly-made salmon sushi, which was delicious! This included Nigiri (sliced fish on top of small beds of rice) and Sashimi (thinly sliced fish served without rice). Tasty dorayaki too, with anko filling.

In the Soul Sushi, I was falling in remembrance of my time as a student atmosphere wise. The food was extraordinary in quality and size compared to pricing.

I went to collect an order that I'd placed online, only to find that not only had they not received it, but I would also have to pay significantly more than was advertised online. They were unable to budge on this when I pointed it out. Quite unfortunate. To the owner: please take your website offline or at least update the prices on it. False advertising and poor customer service will lose you customers.

Got the salmon teriyaki rice bowl, which was ok. It was mostly rice, and pretty standard.

Not bad sushi but quite bad service and they didn't even bother to make them fresh! Why would I get sushi from a fridge that could have been made yesterday for all I know and pay a big price for that. The sushi was actually quite good but make them fresh for everyone please!!! The ones in the fridge should only be sold with a discount.

I’ve been coming to this nice little place for years, and I always enjoy their food especially the katsu curries. Both the prices and food portions are very reasonable and the place is clean. But the last few times (including today) I came to the shop the girl staff was very rude and this time I was the only customer in the shop which makes me feel personally targeted and very uncomfortable. If you’re hiring students please train them better because if I meet the same staff next time and they’re still being rude I would honestly not consider to come back and tell all my friends to do the same!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. LOOK AT THE REVIEWS THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. Changed ownership and unsafe food - I ordered the prawn katsu- fish that is apparently delivered 'fresh daily' - rotten. If I could leave 0/5 I would. Food poisoning 2 hours after my meal. Still unwell 3 days later. Shambles of a restaurant- heard from a lot of people with similar issues.

Just had chicken katsu curry rice bowl and I like it. Good price, decent portion and very comforting. *If you bring your student id, it will cost £6.5.

AVOID IF VEGAN Ordered some sushi plates and veggie gyoza. They served me the plates straight away and they were warmish (definitely above safety standards). They forgot the gyoza so being vegan I specifically told the staff I was waiting for my VEGGIE gyoza. I had a small bite of it and asked the staff member (cashier) if they were indeed veggie. The staff at the counter asked the chef who confirmed that for me. I wasn't convinced so I asked to take them home. Instead of giving me an empty take away box as they used to the cashier brought a box with other gyoza and mumbled something. I asked him to repeat himself and he said that the gyoza I had were PORK. I never had any such problem in this place before but won't be coming back and I suggest my fellow vegans to be very careful when visiting this establishment as the whole team is untrustworthy.

Lately, rice has been very dry and pieces fall apart easily. If the kitchen would know how to cook sushi rice it would be a 10/10. Apart from that best sushi place in Edinburgh. Good prices and student options.

Avoid, avoid, avoid at any costs. Order took ages to arrive. Once it arrived we were very disappointed. Not only some stuff was missing but also we had to bin the rolls because fish was stinky. Had to contact them and ask for the refund however people on the line were absolutely USELESS. Really was a good spot before, however as somebody mentioned before 'what happened lately?'. I am not giving it a second chance cause it was the horrific experience. JOKE

very sadly seems to have changed owners gone from a solid 10/10 hotspot with great deals and incredible food to a 1/10 - dry rice, fish that tasted off and a noticeable drop in quality of produce and increased price (the fresh avocado roses have been replaced with pre sliced avocado) what a shame

Horrid place, staff are more interested in chatting and eating than any sort of customer service. On the other hand If your a rich entitled student this is probs the place for you.

Wonderful, little place to have sushi and poke bowl. We made a mistake and changed our order as it was getting ready and the staff were extremely accommodating, reassuring us that it was not a problem. Delicious food and amazing service. We'll definitely be back for more!

Decent as a grab and go sushi place. Much fresher than some of the other takeaway sushis in the UK. Can’t be too picky about the knife work and rolling technique when the prices are this reasonable. They’ve got student discount too! Been a few times already!

Main issue: Consistency and Quality Control. I understand that sushi cannot be the same every time, but this is the third time in a row we got sloppy looking sushi. The food quality was good, but the sushi pieces were broken into bits, smaller than usual and the prawns were almost all full of prawn shell. Again, it would have been fine if this was once the case, but come on now, third time in a row? What's up with Soul Sushi lately? I will certainly think it through if I order again and honestly, there is plenty of competition out there so I may even be better off trying new sushi places. FYI the order was 50£, so I was expecting much more.

You can get Japanese food in low price thanks to student discount. The quality is same as other proper Japanese restaurants like Kawaneko.

I had been here years ago when I visited, place has changed much smaller, but they had vegan sushi and that all that matters to me! 3 different varieties, edamame, pickled ginger, wasabi! Pleasant staff , fast in and out take away!

We had been looking at a lot of Japanese cuisine around Edinburgh and we chose Soul Sushi after seeing some amazing options on their menu. We decided to order from there through Deliveroo, everything arrived, the prawn Hosomaki didn't survive the journey but everything else was great. We ordered Pumpkin Katsu Curry and Chicken Katsu Curry, both arrived hot and were super tasty! Great portion sizes too! We ordered the Buttersquash Rolls, Asparagus Nigiri, Salmon box and Prawn Hasomaki. They tasted great and we felt really healthy and full afterwards. Would highly recommend!

Decent sushi, much better than other places around.

Small independent sushi restaurant in the bustling Southside area serving a range of Japanese cuisine at very generous prices. We had a portion of vegetable gyozas that were freshly made, crispy and full of topping. The dipping sauce was full of flavour. I had teriyaki chicken which for under £8 was terrific value. It was packed with tender chicken, rice, lightly pickled onions and pea shoots. Maybe could have done with a little more teriyaki dressing. My partner had katsu chicken which was suitably crispy and delicious. They don't serve alcohol but have a range of kombuchas and soft drinks, as well as pre-made takeaway options.

Usually order my poke bowls here and it’s usually good, decided to get a katsu curry this time and my chicken was completely raw

5 for food, all of it is tasty. 3 for service, impacted by how popular it is, there isn't enough room if you're waiting to takeaway. Order ahead for pick up to avoid this particular hassle. 4 for atmos, it's friendly but you better enjoy crowds.

Soul Sushi is a really westernised sushi i would say. From an asian point of view, I cant really like the food when you know what sushi meant to be. Rice is mushy and the tuna tasted like overnight. And they aint cheap for that quality. Not valued for money.

I got myself the salmon set, and it was absolutely delicious. Fresh, fatty, tender scottish salmon was the star of the set, complemented by a perfect amount of rice and some avocado. I also got teriyaki chicken earlier, it was okay, but this sushi set was one of the best I've ever had in my life

Really enjoyed. If you want a fast Japanese meal for a reasonable price, this place is for you. Sushi rolls are premade. We had one and was ok. The bowls are made after you order. They were amazing and very fresh. The flavours were great (yellow fin and teryaki salmon). The place and tables are very clean.

This is a good place. Food was tasty. But alas serving size is small. Had teriyaki chicken for 8£ and duck got a 5£ for 5. Still left me hungry and had to grab something else too. 13£ was expensive for the food overall

Very tasty and very different from the sushi I’ve had before. Not the best tasting but the nori on the outside felt like it was soaked in water which brought out the flavour well. Overall good price for the size and expectations met in line with that. Miso soup was tasty but could have done with more tofu.

Great student rates! I had tuna sushi and katsu curry but the rice was mushy and had no bite. It might’ve been because I had takeout and it was sitting in the container, so I’ll give it another try and update the review. The taste was okay, similar to the “fast food” you can get in Asia.
