Soul + Grain, Newcastle Airport in Newcastle upon Tyne

Supposed to open at 3.30 am , didn’t open until 04:15. Pastry decidedly average and cappuccino took …. Well actually I’m still waiting … I’m the first customer and it’s been 9 minutes already I’ve been waiting with no explanation. Very poor

Very rude staff. When asking for their names to provide feedback to the management they refused to provide this information saying they are not obliged to provide their name. The girl serving advised a certain product is not available. I turn around the the product was right next to me. The girl refused to even look at me or look around the area where the product was stacked. When I asked her male colleague her name he refused this information pretending there was no girl working there even though she served me 3 mins earlier with him standing next to her! I then asked his name and he refused this information and became quite defensive! Talked to manager on site and he gave a generic apology but took no further action or showed he was the slightest bit bothered.

I always stop off here when visiting Newcastle Airport. Food is always fresh, tasteful and delivered with a great customer service. I always recommend it, to friends and family. I will also be visiting again soon.

Trevor was exceptionally personable and really friendly. I felt very relaxed while I waited for my flight back to London and was able to charge my phone. The food was fantastic too. I had the vegetable curry. Really refreshing to eat good food at a reasonable price at an airport. I would definitely return!

Friendly staff, good coffee, fabulous double bacon stottie - the best bacon butty I’ve ever eaten to be honest. Trevor and Tom were the staff on hand and the restaurant was clean and nicely quiet for a weary traveller. Thank you guys!

While the coffee was fine, I found the service very rude. When I arrived, there was only one person in front of me. Since there was no queue, I waited to his right. A queue formed to his left. When my time came, the staff member yelled at me saying I should go to the back of the queue and refused to take my order even after I politely explained to her I had been waiting longest. Luckily there's a Starbucks next door.

Stopped off for a coffee served by the lovely calli really polite and friendly staff will definitely be back next time I’m flying out if anyone is flying out please pop in and give it a go

Chose this place for the first time just to give it a try. Service was appalling. Most of the empty tables had customers’ old cups and packaging that they left probably to give the two lazy, couldn’t-give-a-toss-about-us staff who never ventured out from behind the counter the whole time we were there. One customer, over what I do not know, shouted across to them ‘you could make more effort!’ as he collected his coffees from the counter. They didn’t react of course because they weren’t listening. When they had no customers to serve they just stood chatting to each other. Do you actually interview job applicants in person? If you do, you must be desperate. I won’t return there again and I’ll warn others off you so negative was my experience.

Absolutely disgraceful service by ignorant staff. I asked how fatty the bacon sandwiches were and the Manager said "pretty fatty", so we went for the pale grey sausage sandwiches only to realise they had ketchup in! I returned my sandwich only to be told "It's on the sign" - no offer to replace and why would I need to be understanding about having sauce on a sandwich I had ordered. We left our food and drink on our table with all three staff glaring and mouthing things at us and went to a different place with lovely staff and a delicious freshly made sandwich. I suggest all three staff could do with some customer service training.

Had an early morning flight and decided to stop at this lovely coffee shop to grab a quick coffee and snack to eat. The staff were so kind and friendly, helping me out with finding what i needed. Despite a very rude customer at the till throwing food and shouting at the girls they still managed to deliver great customer service with a big smile on their faces. well done girls!

I’m a nightshift airport worker and as such I need some caffeine to get me through the early hours of the morning. A good cup of coffee and a bite to eat at 4am really makes the difference and after trying every place in the airport I’ve come to the conclusion that Soul+Grain has the best coffee, great staff and also offers good value for money. I now try to make it a daily (well nightly) routine to pop up with my workmates and grab a coffee as Callie makes the best Americano in the airport in my opinion! Despite the unsociable time of day it’s always a pleasure to see the early morning staff of Callie, Katie and their team to have a 10 minute break before getting back to work. Highly recommend.

Beautiful display of goods, with a friendly reception from Tom. Had blueberry muffins which were still warm, being baked on site.

Horrible coffee. It was awful in January 2024. And it's possibly worse now. Please people, if you're going to say you're a coffee bar, learn HOW to make it. Trouble is that even if made well the beans are poor.

Absolutely appalling service this morning I asked for a latte extra hot and americano with hot milk separate I was given 2 americanos when I pointed out I was told I had taken someone else’s I explained both coffee s we’re put in front of me waited for latte to be given a Luke warm half full cup asked to have it hot and a full cup please it was practically thrown me with a lot of attitude

Stopped to have a latte and slice of the rhubarb and strawberry slice. WOW, Tom made the best latte I have had in a long time!!! And the slice was amazing and was so moist, we bought more as it was so delicious... Really good customer service, they catered to our needs and really pleased to see they had various details available about the food being vegitarian/plant based/gluten free/source of fibre/low fat/low sugar - so informative!! Keep up the good work!!! Will def come again.....

Restaurant was relatively quiet - everyone had been served. The table we initially sat at, had the crumbs swept off onto the floor below. Looked at getting a meal out of the fridge, only to spot a pot of moulded fruit. Went over to the staff to hand the fruit pot over, who could not be bothered in the slightest. Left with nothing and will definitely not be returning to the store.

stopped here before my flight to cyprus , i ordered a iced berry matcha oat shake and a bacon stottie both were made to perfection and set me up perfectly for my flight , i was served by this amazing girl called callie she spoke with such kindness and a refreshing happy tone that made my day already ,amazing staff member

Was in on Sunday (9/6/24) Service was above and beyond, Katie served me and she was polite, friendly and very accommodating. Credit to the team, will 100% be back.

I called in last week with my 3 children on our early morning flight out to Corfu. We were met by the friendly face of Katie who was a delight , the kids were some excited to tell her about their surprise holiday and she was more than willing to listen despite it being busy . The food was lovely , I just wanted to grab myself something healthy but filling before the flight so grabbed a lovely chia seed yogurt and a nice smoothie which was delicious. I’d packed the kids a little packed lunch for the plane but due to the time I spent keeping the trip as a surprise until we got to the airport I hadn’t picked anything up , I was battling through the busy security at 4am with 3 kids in tow on my own and I couldn’t have been happier with the smiley face that made the process a whole lot less stressful! A brilliant visit and I will be sure to visit again on my next flight

Early morning flight and stumbled on this cute cafe, girl who served me Callie made me a very nice latte and recommended the sausage stottie and cheese and tomato croissant which were delicious. Very friendly staff, lots of choice on there menu very clean and will definitely return on my next visit.

Asked for vegan options and the guys says I don’t even know what’s vegan. Pathetic service.

I would not normally post a review on an airport cafe but this one made me make the effort. Possibly the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. And just to add insult to injury one of the most expensive. What a dissapointment. If you like your coffee this is a place to avoid.

Was travelling to Tenerife and served by Katie and Callie. they were both absolutely lovely and my latte was perfect. i travel often and will definitely be coming back

Convenient to eat before boarding. The inside of the store is bright and clean. You can do it slowly.

Do not buy a bacon bun from here unless you like fat. When I complained was told there was nothing they could do, asked to speak to manager was told not available when asked who I could complain to told by staff to leave a bad review

Awful coffee, tiny area to add your own milk or sort teabag etc, with y hands full! Surprisingly the price was reasonable.

Unbelievable atmosphere really got me ready for my long haul flight to Baghdad. Brunette girl Called Callie behind the till was my highlight with stupendous customer service skills. Would recommend!

Food here is lovely and staff always have a smile on their faces. Was served by Enis who was happy to recommend foods to me. Definitely recommend the sweet potato and coconut muffin

Great experience all round, Tom and Ishmael were really friendly and helpful. Coffee was great and exactly what you’d want before a late flight. Food was delicious, and not like the stereotypical microwave meals in other airports. Outstanding!

Early morning flight out of Newcastle back to the U.S. and stumbled upon this cute airport cafe. Friendly staff, great espresso (caramel and chocolate) and breakfast bagel recommendation to get my day started right. Would definitely recommend to any traveler, especially American traveler looking for a little taste of home, passing through Newcastle, UK. Callie, Brooke, and Jess are definitely the staff you want to have for the start of a long haul flight !

Husband and I ordered the double bacon stotties. Bear no resemblance to what was advertised . Dry , hard bread , undercooked bacon and a smear of sauce . Husbands was better hence the 1 star . Avoid .

Very disappointed. I was looking forward to getting some decent vegetarian breakfast and a salad to take on the plane. Only 1 pot cereal and 1 yoghurt available. No veggie bagels, not a salad to be seen. Nothing different than any of the other food outlets. 2 coffee and 1 yoghurt all small £15. Not the best start.

Nice to see a new place in NCL which has been badly served for food outlets in the past. Bright open new area and some food options but prices are high. Coffee is fair but served in tiny paper cups - allegedly recyclable. Downgraded my review after paying £6.30 for 2 paper cups of tea.

The members of staff were more interested in gossiping. I had to interrupt to make order and I was the only customer. Need hospitality training. No decaf products and I resented paying £6 40 for a bacon stottie when the service was so bad.

Ordered a large cappuccino which was extremely weak, almost like drinking steamed milk. To be fair the lady serving offered to put another shot in it.

Very tasty food, and the staff were very lovely. Brooke and Janan asked me all about my journey and made lovely conversation while my toastie was cooking. Plenty of room to sit and charge up your phones and everything.

Really nice little egg and avo pot. A bit expensive but I guess it's an airport. The woman that served me was very helpful when it came to reading the ingredients on the tiny label

Really nice food! For a quick bite it’s an upgrade to the usual grab and go sandwich. Janan and Jess were particularly pleasant while taking and fulfilling my order as well

A lovely bright inviting coffee shop however when we arrived at 11.30 there were no bacon sandwiches, sold out!!!! No pastries sold out!!! There were croissant but without butter and jam, so disappointing. This coffee shop could be just what Newcastle airport needs but not in the way it is working at the moment

Visited when flying to Crete 9th october. Had failed contactless payment. Then paid chip and pin. Sat for my food only to be told payment didnt complete. Went to pay again and got a receipt. Bank statement came and have paid twice. Trying to get refund is a nightmare as no email address and no one answering telephone

Sloth like coffee making. Three point machine but no let's make them one at a time. The queue at 5am yes 5am was massive. Oh and watch out as it will be radioactive.

My partner's breakfast bagel with 3 postage stamp sized pieces of bacon was appalling, but the goat's cheese toasties I tried was OK. We took this back and got a sullen and begrudged exchange from one of the girls on the counter, but the young man serving that day was very apologetic. Choose your sandwich carefully, at £20+ for 2 average sandwiches and 2 coffees, it's not good value.

Ordered bacon bagel, it had absolutely no taste what so ever, scandalous at £6,49!

Great customer service staff really friendly, polite and they just make sure your holiday starts off right with them highly recommend.

Great tasting coffee! Better than costa and Starbucks

Very disappointed. Chose S&G as wanted a hot light meal, rather than the Boots meal deals cold sarnies sitting on the communal benches. Instead got a naff heated roll, on a paper bag as doesn't provide plates or cutlery, and had to tear and share - at ieast Boots sarnies are precut! Definitely not worth paying twice the price for the airy cafe feel! They should advise before enticing that just paying for the lighting.
