Soul food in Tendring

Venue was amazing, sadly the food was not! We ordered quite alot, the goat didn't have much curry flavour, was pretty tasteless to be honest, the colour ect was spot on just lacked seasoning, the rice and peas again lacked seasoning and I do prefer long grain easy cook rice than basmati for rice n peas. The jerk chicken was way to salty and the seasoning was only skin deep, not fully in the chicken, the gravy that was with the jerk chicken and jerk pork was just black tar like no love in it at all! No onions no garlic no chilli pieces ect the coleslaw was amazing and toned down the saltyness of the chicken. The fried plantain was really good. The mac cheese again looked good lacked flavour! Dumplings where OK. The jerk pork 🙈 can't really comment on that never ate it. Maybe chef was having a off day but felt soulless no love in the food! The staff were all absolutely lovely the venue was very pretty, service was great. I do fully understand that obviously the chef has to cater for multiple tastes, and everyone's tastes are different, so not sure what happened the gravy to be honest was like the juice from the chicken then just thickened, but had a salty bitter taste rather than heat and flavour.

Absolutely amazing food! Went here with my partner, our children and my mum. Unfortunately some of the food e ordered wasn't available, but what we had was delicious. Great portion size and good price. Our daughter ate from the kids menu and said the food was worth 1000 stars, and tasted better then burger king and kfc! She's a very fussy eater so that's a big compliment! We're from London, but will definitely be back to enjoy the lovely food at Soul Food again.

If you’re looking for some 10/10 Jamaican food this is the spot to go! Came here with my girlfriend and her family and we was not disappointed, the staff were absolutely lovely and talkative they even let us try some roast potatoes and stuff (some of the best I’ve ever had) the jerk pork was so tender I didn’t even need to cut it with my knife it jsut fell apart!! Honestly amazing freshly cooked food the only thing I would recommend is getting there early because they sell out quick and didn’t have everything we wanted to try

Just been in soul food what can I say. The curry goat was melt in your mouth good. The jerk chicken was beautiful. Will definitely be a regular well done chef

We saw the banner and knew we had to visit. Lovely people who work there so friendly and the food tasted amazing!! Very grateful for the plates and cutlery!! Definitely visit if you can. Nicola & Tracey

What a find so happy this is in are town food is outstanding and so is the customer service and the shop is beautiful been done to a high standard a must try.
