Avenue Bistro in Tendring

Fully booked on a Thursday afternoon!!!! We had a great lunch, staff were attentive and friendly within a relaxed atmosphere. I felt I could have spent the afternoon there easily :)

Had a wonderful lunch there today, everything was 5 star.

Just spent the BH weekend in Frinton and based on previous good experiences we booked for dinner Friday and Saturday night and we were not disappointed. The food, staff and ambience are what makes this place the go to restaurant in Frinton. We'll be back!

Haven't been to the Ave Bistro for a while. Went for Sunday lunch with friends. The staff are wonderful and so efficient, our lovely waitress (sorry don't know your name) was efficient and funny. The food was lovely, and I did appreciate that unlike a lot of venues, they didn't feel the need to bombard the customers with background music. Which is often not that background at all. Highly recommend.

Just had dinner here. Fantastic service, delicious food which arrived very promptly. A great Bloody Mary too! Will definitely be back

Happened upon this lovely Restaurant purely by chance on our way back home from a morning on the beach. Absolutely first class food, lovely service from delightful waitresses, and altogether a good experience. The restaurant is spotless and the menu varied. Will drive down again just to go for another lunch here.

Came here for lunch with a friend I thought it was going to be really expensive but it wasn’t- was about £18 including wine. We both had a tasty chicken and chorizo dish on a flat bread, which was very filling. Service was great all the waitresses were helpful and pleasant. We sat outside underneath the awning as it was a beautiful day, warm but not so sunny. The restaurant opens up its doors and really had a Mediterranean feel. I’ve been to Frinton many a time and never been in this restaurant and definitely hope to come again.

Great service, good food. Service is great too. Very simple things like acoustic paneling make it easy to a conversation with your friends. Definitely recommend this place.

This is a wonderful place to eat. They looked after all our needs,especially the gluten free part. When we visit again we will hope to eat here again.

Just had an exceptional meal with my girlfriend whilst we stayed with friends in Frinton for the weekend. My girlfriend recommended this restaurant, and it was my first time experiencing it. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed by the culinary expertise on display. The scallops were perfectly seared, and the pork belly was cooked to absolute perfection. My girlfriend, Julie had the lamb shank, and it was divine. We were so delighted with our meals that we ended up sharing halfway through and immediately decided to return on Sunday for dinner before heading home. We brought our dog Bear and the staff made us feel incredibly welcome—they were exceptionally accommodating. This restaurant is a true gem, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

At a Father’s Day lunch here recently (group of 6). It was the first time visiting since moving to the area over 2 years ago and it was the best restaurant we’ve eaten in for a while. I just wish we ate here sooner. The food was delicious & staff lovely & accommodating. It was very busy and full up, but we didn’t feel rushed or crammed in like some places you go to. Also, children are welcome. Can’t wait to return soon.

The very best Sunday roast for 4 of us, 2 beef rib and 2 pork. Perfectly presented and served with helpful and friendly staff. The quantity and quality of roast carrot and potatoes along with red cabbage, imaginative stuffing, gravy and other sauces were top notch. Why look elsewhere in Frinton or Tendring or Colchester?

Booked a table via Email, super quick response. We both had the beef Sunday roast which was absolutely fantastic. Staff very friendly, quick service, would highly recommend.

A very nice restaurant. Light and airy. Lovely circular table for the 6 of us. Everyone enjoyed their food, although the steak had a bit too much salt. All very nice. We then asked for the birthday cake we tool to be brought out after dinner. They brought the cake with candles and we all sang. Then they took the cake away, put in a box and said we wouldn’t be allowed to eat any of it because someone tried to sue them once. Why take the cake in the first place and why not say anything. So bizarre. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but the cake thing was ridiculous and they didn’t even give my mother in law any dessert at all as a way of a nice gesture.

It's a very peaceful place to go. Looking at the menu looked a bit pricey. However, the food quality was really good and it was worth it. Everything was delicious, portions were good size, waiting time was perfect, and Mollie (waiter) was lovely. Very much looking forward to coming back. We had two starters, two mains and two beers and it was about £70.

What a beautiful restaurant with superior staff that make you feel so welcome. So attentive and never left without anything. Food is flawless and never had a bad experience in over a year of visiting regularly.

Went with friends for Sunday Roast approx three years ago all round. Booked in advance for four as we sat down table next to us we’re just being served their roast dinners. I remarked to my friend how the roast potatoes these people had on their plate looked more white than anything else. Ours came out looked like white with a brown stripe running down them as if been under the grill.The Yorkshire puddings were shop bought as all looked as if from the same mould such was the shape identical. Worst was the bowl they deserved deserts in came out and the vegetables it contained for four was disgraceful. One Cauliflower head approx twelve green beans and some carrots I asked where the peas were as phoned in advance as one friend only eats peas and was told peas always served.Was told we can do you peas friend said not too worry felt she was embarrassed by having to ask. Personally think no doubt wanted to charge for peas as an extra. All they did not serve us with was raffle tickets in order to see who got what from the dismal bowl of vegetables they bought out. Would have thought in a high end restaurant which they think they are with four people there would be four of each vegetable in the bowl so customers would not have to hope they got the winning ticket in order to get the vegetables they liked. Did complain have never been back nor would we disgraceful. Like so many all greed less they serve more they save.

A return visit, but our last one was 2.5 years ago during a previous stay to visit our Walton relatives! All I remembered from last time was that it was really nice, so I hoped the standards were the same. I needn't have worried about that - all four of us throughly enjoyed our dinner. Special shout-out for the moules starter and pork belly main - both were delicious. It was a busy Saturday night and the atmosphere was great. Hopefully we won't leave it quite as long until our third visit!

Visited with three friends on a Friday lunch time whilst we were out on a motorbike ride. We hadn’t booked but the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, found us a table to sit and somewhere for our helmets and stuff to go despite being full of customers. Food was fantastic and really made our day. Will definitely be back. Thank you!

We had a lovely meal at the Avenue Bistro on Saturday evening, there were 11 of us in our family party and everything went very smoothly. The food and the service was great and we would definitely go there again.

Visited on Saturday evening with friends. Food was good and service excellent as always. Unfortunately it was very noisy and impossible to hold a conversation across a round table for 5 people. ⁹

My mother and I had lunch here yesterday we both had the Moroccan chicken and crème brûlée. The food was absolutely delicious! The waitress Thea was delightful we were very pleased with the whole experience.

A really special place to go and eat, the food really is that step above from what you’d normally get elsewhere. So too is the service and the warm welcome, which is always superbly offered.

Just seen the new seasonal menu, one assumes they are a Chef down it is so limited and uninteresting? Wont be bothering.

Really lovely meal set in a nice atmosphere, we went on a Wednesday when there was live music, both of us really enjoyed the food and the after dinner cocktails were lovely, I think the bill was around 130 which included a bottle of wine and sparkling water.

Best Sunday lunch I have had in years. Staff are very sexy😉 ,and also very good service, great wines list and have a draught lager on tap. IRISH coffee very good. Well done chef, 10 out of 10.

Amazing restaurant. It didn’t just win best restaurant in Essex recently for no reason. We all really enjoyed the ambience, the staff were very friendly and the food was insane.

Unfortunately we didn’t eat so my review isn’t based on the food. I had a booking for my boyfriends birthday and asked if we could bring a cake, but they do not allow you to eat it because of an incident they had, but we’re happy to take £50 to allow us to eat our cake 🤣. Even though we would of been spending over £200 because we are a party of 8 What a shame!

Delicious evening meal. Beautiful environment + wonderful staff. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection, followed by creme brulé. Highly recommend.

This is how bistros used to be, you feel like you are going somewhere a little fancy and the service special without being over the top. Yes it’s a little pricey but totally worth it…as are the cocktails. It makes such a change not to have chain restaurants on a high street. Our first visit and we will be back.

We were taken here whilst visiting family. Truly impressed by service, menu and quality of food. Had a 3 course early evening meal and wanted to move to Frinton just to be near this restaurant. Can't praise it enough.

Moved here a couple years ago and had quite a few visits! The Sunday Roast is the best in the area by far! Always feel welcome and they accommodate us when we have the baby too. Happy cheerful staff as well. Will be a regular for us in the years to come.

Really nice staff, who were very helpful. They were very flexible with my wife's birthday booking. Food was very good and they catered well with normal and vegetarian options. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for something a little more higher standard in the area.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Avenue Bistro. The service from the team were outstanding - they are super professional, friendly and so kind to our dog (they immediately brought over a water bowl as we sat down). They're dog friendly both inside and outside, which surprised us as the restaurant decor is beautiful. The food was so delicious and were generous portions. We were sad they only took cash tip and we didn't have any cash on us - I've never wanted to give a tip so much in my life! We'll definitely visit again and be sure to have cash tip on us next time!

Beautiful restaurant and super friendly staff. Not the cheapest place so we expected something special. Starters and mains were good - but dessert chosen was a disappointment for the £8.95 price. The warm chocolate fondant pudding came in just a ramekin dish on a small plate, with the scoop of ice cream on top. No finesse in presenting it on a larger plate with ice cream separate and perhaps a little decoration too. So the dessert quickly became a little dish of chocolate mush with the melted ice cream. Not impressed and we left on a sad note…

We booked a table, quite last minute, but they were able to accommodate us. We were welcomed by someone as soon as we arrived and given a choice of table. The atmosphere was lovely, clearly a very popular restaurant. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was excellent. You definitely get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Went to this bistro on Friday last Had not booked, but at 1345hrs a table for four was available. We had beef pie, Moroccan chicken, roast cod and liver and bacon all served with vegetables. Each meal looked good, and according to everyone at our table was good, our young lady server was friendly, chatty and seemed to be enjoying her work which was a nice touch. Sunday lunch made to feel rushed, almost empty, setting tables around us, and rather off putting having the restaurants family sitting at a table casually talking on the phone as if sitting in the local cafe.
