JAMROCKS CARIBBEAN CUISINE in Tendring

I had a takeaway of Goat curry with rice and peas! Delicious flavour!! I loved it. The menu was very restricted (due to current issues) The curry was beautiful and melted in the mouth. If you try it watch the small bones; they add the flavour so expect them. It arrived quickly. My only criticism was that the temp was a little cooler. The spicing was lovely.

I have been here twice, once to the restaurant when i was on a holiday resort, and once i got takeaway when staying with some friends. I, as would many others on tripadvisor, do not recommend getting takeaway. The food took quite long to arrive and was quite dissapointing, bland and not as good as i hoped, having been here previously. However, the first time when i went and actually stayed at the restaurant, the food was amazing. I love jamaican food and their goat was so delicious and tender and they have a wide range to choose from. I would definitley go back again and recommend to everyone to go here, just don't order a delivery.

After 4 hours wait after we ordered for delivery found this in my wife food she nearly choked on it.. wraps are nothing like the pic (no salad very dry)

On the 17th August ordered a takeaway should’ve came at 6.55pm but was over 45mins late, forgot the drinks and never came back to deliver them, food was horrible you could barely eat it. Chicken was so dry. Ended up throwing it away in the end. Would not return. Expensive for what you get.

I love west indian food and the way in which it's so flavourful but this was dire. Kids meal of fried chicken with rice was soooooo dry. The chicken was already dead they did not need to so severely over cook it. Had mixed jerk with rice and peas, not enough coconut or seasoning in the rice and the jerk was brown but had no flavour. I was so disappointed and I was away for the weekend and thought there would be good food on tap. This was not the case. Small portions and bad food they would not get away with calling this west indian food if they were in London. They clearly have no competition.

Had a takeaway was not very good cold food, all bones no meat, portions were small would never eat there again. There a better establishments within the town Centre better value for money for families or couples for singles.

I was gunna score this place a 3 after visiting today but on reflection its clearly a 4. The team were lovley, friendly and welcoming. The pattie was LUSH rice and pea as expected and the jetk was damn hot bit to saucy for my liking but i guess the in laws spoil me n cooknit " my way" just for me. I had jerk chicken rice n pean a patty n drink all for a tenner 😲😲 Yes the portions wernt huge but theres nothing wrong with portion control and i went away full and quite happy......this place makes a nice change in clscton away from the regular highstreet brands n chipys.

Great food. Was still very hot and fresh on arrival. Massive portions for the price. And the delivery driver even came to my hotel room door as i had no reception on my phone. Amazing! I randomly picked this place when i stayed at the spa as their menu was quite bassic like english/pub grub style and i was craving jamaican food! I will defo order from here again! Thanks! Party of 4. We ate in. Had a mixed selection of dishes to share and sample. All really lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cook came out to tell us about the dishes. Would recommend this wholesome menu - it's a little bit different.

I've been a chef for as long as i can remember! i despise takeaways for the con of frozen, greasy and tasteless food ! tonight, I've tried this little place ! the lady on the phone has manners,education and a smile in her voice! the gentleman delivering was well dressed,polite,smiling and actually pleased to deliver! the person who home cooked my dinner deserves it all! home PERFECTLY cooked ! flavorful ! from the simple yet fantastic rice to the tender goat curry or the peppered steak! my wife was surprised, for the Jamaican chicken doesn't look like the frozen crap others would "cook"! after trying it ,her words were "i am never eating anywhere else" ,this is the best chicken I've ever tried ! I've ordered a kids menu for a 5 year old! but she ended up munching on our food as well ! all i can add is : this chef has passion, knowledge and above all love for the dishes they are cooking! thank you Jamrocks team! Although the food was ten minutes late it was well worth the wait! We are visiting from London and are spoilt for choice of Caribbean takeaways at home this was by far the best we have ever eaten. Not one bit left over, all plates cleared. Amazing!

Chips seemed undercooked chicken seemed over cooked, everything was spicy when was asked clearly not to be spicy, not to be rude but you should try improving the food quality, I'm from the Caribbean and it was nothing like our food. Leaves a very bad impressions on our food cultures.

driver said he called which he did not as i never recieved any missed calls and i had full signal. very bad experience on this occasion. not happy at all. will not be using again or recommending.

We just came back from our holiday after along break and order a jamrocks jerk mix and a curry goat and to be honest its the best we had in along time the taste was great the food was wonderful.very friendly staff.. Highly Recommended..

I have to come back at Jamrocks cause of the quality of the that we had on our first visit we never like to eat at a lot of places cause of the most place serve microwave for but when we came here the first time and saw that our meal was cooking when we order it that a good factor for us real authentic Jamaican soul food. Highly recommended

The food didn't taste Caribbean at all. The portion was small, except of the rice, and the rice was awful. Friendly service though, if that matters.

Waited an hour and 15 minutes for my food for it to turn up with chewy chicken that I was genuinely put off. Even thought it was very hot which which good as well as the chips being lovely. Staff we're friendly and polite when I called to enquire about the time of my food and the delivery was happy and apologetic.

Went here with my family we had curry goat and jerk chicken and it was very tasty from the min we step in the restaurant you could smell the a Jamaican kitchen style cooking and it not just talk it in the taste too we had to tell our friend about this place how the food it Nice..

Fort I'd give this ago, as had a rare night off work and would be something a bit different. I ordered 2 large meals from the meal deal option for £18. Me and my partner went for the jerk chicken, dumplings, rice and peas(aka kidney beans). I fort this sounded good value.It came quicker that stated, all was good, that was until i opened the foil tub and saw the lack of chicken. It consisted of 1 chicken drumstick, and 1 small thigh! In my opinion for a large portion that was terrible value, and was hardy any meat and all bone! Now onto the dumplings or should i say dumpling! That's right just the one. However if you love rice and kidney beans in the sort of volume you need to feed a small town this is the place to go.I drained alot of water of my coleslaw and dished up. As for taste if was really nice, just not anywhere near enough chicken, i would have hoped for 2 dumplings as a minimum, and the amount of rice was crazy. Also need to be clearer on the menu that in Jamaican cuisine 'PEAS' are 'KIDNEY BEANS! I'm not Jamaican or a food expert, i don't know. I phoned up just to let them know my views but the co-owner that i spoke to was in denial. Apparently what i got was a quarter of a chicken and excellent value for money. If that was the case these must be a new breed 'the mini chicken'. It was clear to me that the owner did not care at all, takes the money but no pride. All about maximising the profit per head. Lastly the salad came in a pot the size of a shot glass. Can't count as one of you 5 a day! The kids chicken nugget meal just as expected.I recommend to avoid and i cant imagine what the small portion is like, maybe would suit a smurf size person.

The food last night was terrible, the worst thing I've eaten, all got thrown in the bin, tasted like it was made from a jar, the meat was tough certainly won't be ordering again

Really disappointed!! Had to ring to ask when meal was going to be delivered. Ordered at 6.04 arrived at 7.50. Meat had a slight burnt flavour, was over spiced and the rice and peas was flavourless and dry!!

Great friendly service. Food was lovely and there was a lot of it!! Very fairly priced. Apart from it being delivered to next door by accident and my neighbour taking it I genuinely loved everything. The man on the phone was so polite and apologetic and even offered to re do my whole order fresh at no charge but I marched over next door and got my order myself out of principle. Love the food, love the service. I would recommend to everyone and anyone who are looking for Jamaican food. I'm a very full fat and happy customer!!! Oh and the chicken was perfect!!!!!

It took a bit longer than expected to arrive but they called to let me know that would be the case as it's freshly cooked to order. My food was very nice but I think I'll try the chicken next time as that may travel better than fried fish. Tasty food though and veg Pattie was delicious and nicely spicy. . The food was reasonable, not great. What really let them down was the delivery time. They added an extra 30minutes onto the delivery time as soon as the order went in and where still late delivering. Waited about an hour and half. Restaurant rating is not relevant as we did not eat in.

We usually come to Clacton and walk past Jamrocks on our way to the town. I had never tried food from Jamrocks because I usually am a stickler and will only eat set things from places. I did not know what I fancied Tuesday night, but I fancied something spicy. I actually decided to come to Jamrocks after reading the positive reviews here on tripadvisor. Good reviews plus 5 hygiene made up our mind. Me, my Mum and Daughter went for a late stroll up to Jamrocks. Had no idea what I wanted but after the man told us what was available, we settled for Jerk pork, rice and peas, pattie and jerk chicken wrap with chips. We waited a while (not in a bad way) and it was nice to actually hear cooking coming from the back kitchen. Rather than just mass produced food all tubbed up and ready in 2 minutes. The man was really nice who served us, and I ran back to get some salt and ended up having a nice chat with him before going to eat. The food was lovely. I make my own jerk pork at home (Caribbean heritage) but this pork was amazing. Even thinking of it now is making me hungry. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. It was a bit cool in temperature, but we did have to walk back to our hotel, but the flavours were wonderful. The curry gravy had a wonderful kick to it. I wished I had had the time to go back and get some more food but definitely when we return, I shall be going to Jamrocks. That jerk pork........O.M.G Lovely lovely lovely. Just melted in my mouth and the sauce/gravy was the right thickness and had a richness to it, but not overpowering. Definitely coming again because its made my belly hungry now just remembering the food.

Our family always love to order from jamrocks cause its one of the best home cook style soul food that one can get from a Caribbean Restaurant we are not easy to please and when my Nan approved jamrocks cooking we know the food is good..Our curry goat was wonderful...

Food was tasty, would have preferred much less bones in the curry. Was hot and seemed fresh. Disappointed 2 items I ordered I couldn't get which was stated when they rang me. So that's the reason for less stars. Along with the long delivery wait time, but wouldn't stop me ordering in future just think I would call prior to check they had what I actually wanted available. And what the wait would be.

I had a few hours to kill in clacton and was hungry, I eagerly awaited jamrock to open and when the doors opened i was greeted by the familiar smell of Jamaican home cooked food.There is nothing worse than knowing what something should taste like and then being disappointed with the product........this was not the case at jamrock. Jerk pork and rice and peas. Delicious!!!! Respect to the cook.

You have an idea of what Jamaican food is going to be like, we've heard rustle lee banging on about Akee & Saltfish, Plantains & Goat Curry since the 80's & more recently Levi Roots. The food is meant to be flavoursome & piquant. This place however is the total opposite. I was warned about the grey paste, sorry, Goat curry; being really hot but unfortunately it wasn't. I suspect the only scotch bonnet the dish had ever seen was on the chef. The meat was terrible & very sparse. Would I go again? Not a chance!

We call up and booked a table for four on our arrival we was amaze by the welcome we receive ,the curry goat & jerk mixes was lush..The staff were on point and we have a wonderful afternoon having a chat running some jokes..we are next back in Clacton in October and Jamrocks will be our place as always ...

We called and ordered plenty of food .. We chased after an hour and then again after 1 hour 40 minutes and no answer ... So they robbed us of £30 and didn't deliver any food ... Nice

I went for lunch and the place was closed despite being within the advertised opening hours. No sign on door to explain.

I tried Jamrocks some months ago and there were some minor issues. I tried them again last night and it was absolutely delicious! Everything tasted lovely. If I had to be picky I'd say the chips were a bit soggy, as like many takeaways they come in a container which tends to steam them. Much better to wrap them in paper or put them in a bag. But overall, the meal was lovely. Will definitely order again 😀

We always get our dinner from here and from day one till now we only can say that everything is on point from the food to the service we receive..we went to the carnival in London and we purchased some jerk chicken and we couldn't eat it cause it has no taste..BY far jamrocks jerk chicken is best we had..Thanks again..

To all the idiots on here complaining about this place not having what they ordered or finding bones in their meal. Go to mc donnalds. Then selling. Out of something means they cook fresh and when it's gone its gone. Feel safe in the rack they sell out. It means they have a high turn over of produce and they don't freeze and reheat to order. To those that complain about fat and bones you have clearly never eaten real food and I revert to my previous comment. Go eat reformed craps from a fast food outlet. Tonight as I eat slow cooked goat off the bone with sticky rice and plantains and the spice gradually builds up I am only sorry I don't have a big glass of rum to wash it down with. Amazing food. I will defiantly be revisiting Amazing flavours. A*********

I love Jamrocks and often order direct from them. Great food and the best staff of all the takeaways in Clacton. Always friendly, always helpful and, when I bump into them in town, they always stop and say hello and take a genuine interest in me. This, couple with great food, makes them my favourite takeaway in town. My only negative comment is directed at Justeat. I used Just eat to look up their menu to see which specials were on and, as I was on the website, decided to order through you. The approximate order time came through via e-mail so I went to collect. I also collected Chinese for others I was eating with at the same time. However the approximate order time I was given was thirty minutes before the time Jamrocks had been given to prepare the meal. They kindly offered to deliver it for me and it was at my door 15 minutes after the time they had been told to have it ready at the takeaway by. Great service. By that time, however, the others had long since finished their Chinese as I had been back 40 minutes. Jamrocks - you rock! Just eat - must try harder
