Sorrento in Kingston upon Thames

Great for a friendly family meal or a romantic night out. This place has been open for over 25 years and continues to deliver tasty classic Italian food. Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They have an excellent wine list and the food is well-priced. We visited for a first holy communion and they could not have been more accommodating, putting on a drinks reception in the garden and then decorating our table.

Lovely lively restaurant, great value for money for Greater London. Quirky fun service from waiter. He was humorous which added fun to our evening. I had king scallops wrapped in bacon which was okay but not as good as I hoped. Followed by Mamma Spaghetti which was prawn in a slightly spicy tomato sauce which was excellent, highly recommended. Good selection of wine at reasonable prices. Overall great night out.

We were a corporate party (10+) on the evening of 20/9/24. The service and food was excellent and all arrived timely and at the same time. Sadly I am not an Italian food lover so I had the sirloin steak with chunky chips. Delicious. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Cheers Graham

Gone a bit downhill, maybe I ordered wrong, but the risotto was like rice in water, no flavour at all. Others in the party had nice meals. Not once were we asked if the meals were ok, used to love this place, shame.

worst food we’ve had at a restaurant. felt like we were in the before of one of gordon ramseys kitchen nightmares. the only saving aspect is the attentive staff, who did a great job. avoid anything fried- and the homemade chips were like raw potato slabs, so definitely opt for french fries instead. the scampi was not pleasant, tasted as if it was battered in crumble instead of breadcrumbs. the garlic bread was nice but everything else was not.

Nice restaurant serving a nice range of food. Not necessarily a particularly regionally coherent menu, nor quite what I expected, however very tasty food. All main meals come with a lovely selection of cooked/roasted veg which was delicious. Good service despite being in a large party.

A wonderful restaurant to celebrate my Sisters birthday. Staff are very caring, especially towards my elderly dad. We ordered fish dishes, pasta and veal and all 8 of us where delighted with our meals. We are already planning our next family get together at the Sorrento.

Service was very slow, we waited 25mins for our first course to arrive and over 30mins for main course. Calamari wasn’t cooked properly, was bland & not crispy at all. I ordered stroganoff which was more like a beef stew with only a couple of slices of mushroom, no mustard or cream and virtually no seasoning! The rice it was served with was cold. The only decent thing was the fried zucchini but even this lacked salt. We didn’t bother with dessert or coffee. A small glass of wine each & a bill of £83! I hadn’t been here for over 20yrs and won’t be rushing back. So disappointed.

My wife and I were impressed firstly with the linen tablecloths and napkins. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The wine was good, as was the food. To find such a good restaurant in that area was a real surprise. I can really recommend it.

Came here tonight with my best friend and our 2 children. We had the set menu and a singer was performing. The set menu was £35. Our total bill was a shocking £232!! Thats for 4 very basic meals plus deserts, 2 bottles of prosecco and 2 orange juices and coffees! If the food was better i would not mind paying but all of us agreed none of it was special. We had one small piece of french bread each. My starter was an extremely basic shrimp desert, no bread with it. My main was a chicken breast in sauce. Just ok. Bland. Nothing special with a measly portion of basic unseasoned side veg. My tiramisu was shockingly bad for an italian restaurant. Just a block of whipped cream covered in cocoa powder and no layering, no richness, no taste of alcohol and the lightest hint of coffee. No mints or anything offered. Not once were we asked if we wanted more drinks. The table was nicely dressed, chairs comfortable . Lady waitress was very nice. Music was so loud that we could not talk properly and it was nothing special. Hugely disappointing and feel very ripped off to pay this price for such inadequate portions and food. Would never return. My son went to pay the bill at the counter not realising such a whopping service charge was added on. Absolutely ridiculous to charge that aamount. It was not deserved. The same waiter still acts silly giving out the napkins. Its quite embarrassing. Hundreds of other restaurants and even pubs locally offer food at a much higher standard and proper portions.

Really lovely vast menu. Portions are good. House white is excellent. The set menu is very good value and has a good selection.

A big thank you to Rosa and all the Sorrento team. We love coming to this restaurant, such lovely staff and atmosphere. So much so that we booked it for our parents 90th birthday lunch (all 20 of us) knowing that we would be looked after well...and we were! Been dining here off and on for several years. Food always good and staff wonderful!

Unfortunately not what we were expecting. One meal was wrong and when it re-appeared just plain and uninspiring. It took over 40 minutes before we even had our order taken. We’ve not been here for over a decade but sadly not our memories of the service and certainly not the food either. I wouldn’t say I won’t return but we left feeling underwhelmed.

My mum and dad have been coming here since I can remember as a boy, now I take my family here. I love it attentive service, amazing value, somewhere you can just relax and enjoy the food and make a hard decision between tiramisu and trifle at the end. Enjoy and feel welcome.

This restaurant has a warm welcoming atmosphere. The staff is very courteous and the food is delicious. They use fresh ingredients and with every mouthful reminds me of a holiday. I can almost hear the waves, fresh air blowing in the distance. I had the Pasta de Mama. Although I did not have a started I received a complementary bread and butter and olives. I have a love for parmesean cheese on my pasta, although it's not their custom with prawns, they brought me some anyway. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Food, as always at Sorrento, was very good but unfortunately the service was very slow again. Arrived, got menus and made our choice in 5 minutes, closed menus and had them on the table. 20 minutes later our order was taken. 25 minutes after that our (cold) starters arrived. The main course was then served 30 minutes later - i.e., it was over an hour and a quarter from arriving that we got our main courses. Unfortunately, it was a similar story the last time we were there a few weeks ago. Real shame as we like the restaurant and staff, but need to think again next time.

It is rare to be served food that is not tampered with these days - as a Nutritionist, a refreshing experience to have no trace of ultra-processed ingredients here; from starter to dessert! Sorrento manages to serve food, cooked skilfully, from its most natural state. The personal care and attention in service makes you feel like you are dining at a member of your loving family's table. Nicest surprise at the end is the reasonable price you pay! Keeping profit margins amazingly fair, they manage to have a full house at these financially challenging times. There is no greedflation here! Never disappointed in this restaurant, that's why we return for special occasions and more. Best choice every time!

Booked,6 people for dinner at short notice. Menu and specials had a good and varied number of options. Prices were v reasonable. Food was good and main course generous portions. Staff v nice waiter Victor was funny. Only negative was coffee a little weak. I would not hesitate to return. Well done.

I'm not sure if we just picked the wrong Saturday evening. There only appeared to be 2 people taking orders who were also serving the drinks and food, as well as 1 other. After around 10 minutes or so, we had to get someone's attention to ask to have some drinks whilst waiting for our friends. Again when our friends arrived we had to ask for drinks after another 10 minutes of their arrival. We ordered our food, and we were not that impressed with it. Two of us ordered the fillet of sea bass, which we believe it to have been slightly over cooked as it was dry, one ordered liver which he said was not as tender as it should have been and the fourth guest ordered lamb cutlets which she said were good. There were plenty of vegetables which were nice. It was a shame really as you look forward to going out, and nowadays, I'm sure it's the same for many. It's not as often due to everything going up. We have been to this restaurant several times, and it has been fine. Maybe in the future, when you know you have a full restaurant, ensure it is adequately staffed

Exceptional food including the appetizers, the mains and the desserts (by the way this review is on behalf of 3 people). Service was very patient, polite and helpful as well. Atmosphere was romantic and calm too, no wonder so many people came in despite that it was a street restaurant. May very well be the best around the area.

Took my cousin and his wife out as part of their wedding present to my favourite restaurant. Certainly didn't disappoint, a lovely meal had by all.

I am Italian and did not find this place particularly 'italian'. We went for a dinner during the week and I ordered grilled fish. It was unfortunately soaking in oil and not tasty. I would not describe the food as authentic Italian based on my experience of Italian food.

I've been eating in this restaurant for 30 years. I have never had a bad meal. Food is always delicious. Service has always been excellent. My Friends and family have visited and all agree Sorrento's is a great place to eat. There is a small parking area behind the restaurant not very big however plenty of parking in the evening on street.

We were in Surbiton for a funeral and did not know the area at all. We searched the area and in Ewell Road, Tolworth came across an Italian restaurant. On entering we were greater warmly by the host who seated us. Immediately a salver of different olives were placed on the table. We were shown a 'specials' board as well as an extensive menu. Both the starters and main courses were cooked to perfection and the portions bountiful. It all tasted beautiful. The house wines both red and white tasted like from a premium bottle. We would highly recommend this little gem.

Can't go wrong with this place, great service, good food and a very nice and spacious restaurant. Has a nice outdoor patio at the back which is great during summer. I believe they also do live music on some nights!

The waiter in Sorrento is a hoot. The pasta dishes are great. Not too busy. It has a lot of regular customers who all know each other.

Authentic Italian restaurant with small car park at rear. Excellent authentic Italian food at reasonable prices including a "set" menu at a very affordable price. Service is quick and friendly with a little Italian humour thrown in! Booking is recommended although not always necessary. Re-visited June 2022 - still as good as ever! Visited again June 23, - still as good as ever! ❤️

Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and the waiter was really nice.

There were seven of us on a Sunday lunchtime. First impressions were great - tables were laid with immaculate white tablecloths and napkins, dishes of olives (very tasty ones) and butter ready for the bread which was brought round. The olives, bread and butter were replenished as needed. The staff were absolutely lovely, with one waiter being particularly fond of playing little tricks, such as trying to nick your mobile phone (I'm sure he was joking!). Our first courses of cannelloni and goats cheese on roasted vegetables were excellent. Rather a long wait for our mains, but the place was very busy and the time passed pleasantly. I chose the liver with onions and my partner had chicken with grilled aubergine. The liver was in a tasty gravy and tender, and the chicken was also pronounced excellent. This is a delightful restaurant and we plan to revisit soon.

It was raining and we were hungry and this was the closest place to eat. The recommended special was gnocchi with shrimp, lemon and orange. It was fine but not what I anticipated when the waiter kept describing it as very good. My husband’s lasagne was a bit over cooked. The one redeeming factor - the espresso was good.

A large group of cyclists got together here for their annual lunch and prize-giving, to celebrate so many good things some of them had achieved during the last year. The group was so large that there was no room for any non cyclist, and the food and service was excellent. However for me it was sadly rather noisier than I'm used to, so I found it uncomfortable to join in.

We had a really superb lunch. The service was great. The house wine really nice. We all had the set menu. Great food and a good choice. Will go back soon and have pasta

Just come back from a lovely dinner at Sorrento's to celebrate our anniversary. As always, friendly welcome and great service throughout. Relaxed atmosphere. Avocado and prawn starter very nice. Wife had lamb shank & I had fillet steak with mushrooms for main course - both excellent & well cooked. Highly recommend Sorrento (as long as you don't take the last table when we want to book 🙂!!).

Decided to treat my husband to lunch, saves me cooking! We had booked, arrived early and were assured it wasn’t a problem. Having discussed what wine we might like to share our waiter assured us that the house white wine was very palatable - we had in fact been discussing the wine if the month. We accepted his suggestion on the wine and yes, it was very nice indeed. Unfortunately, towards the end of our meal, I started coughing, before I could even ask, our waiter put a glass of water beside me, no fuss just a simple, appreciated gesture. Our food was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented with no fuss and attentive service, with added jokes from the waiter.

My wife and I had intended to have a meal here whilst visiting our son and his family. We chose a a lunch time and we were not disappointed. Both of us tried the lunch set menu, I had the spicy chicken wings in a chilli and garlic sauce and Christine had the crayfish cocktail both very good. Our main courses were excellent, I asked our waiter Victor(top lad), if the calf’s liver was cooked fresh and can I have mine cooked slightly rare. It was sublime a rare treat. Christine enjoyed a veal cooked in a lemon sauce. Finished off with a Crème Brûlée each. Can we have this restaurant moved closer to where we live?

Had a few drinks here whilst recently on holiday and decided to return for drinks and a meal on a later date as tempted by the menu. Both were superb. The restaurant is larger than it looks with plenty of indoor eating space as well as outside, so don't be put off if it looks busy. The food selection was fantastic, very fresh and tasted amazing. The cocktails were the best we had during our stay in Sorrento. To top it all the staff were super friendly and you never felt rushed despite them being very busy.

My family & I used to come here very regularly when we lived down the road in Berrylands. We moved away over a decade ago and often spoke about how much we missed it. A couple weeks back for the first time in around 10 years and it was exactly how we remembered it. Great value, family friendly environment with very welcoming staff. It won’t be another 10 years before we next return!
