Food was brilliant, if expensive, so many great options. Place feels a bit like a cafe though and cold with delivery drivers served through the front door. Couldn't fault the staff though.

We had the best vegan gnocchi in a long time. All the other dishes looked great too. Be sure to make a reservation, the restaurant is quite small. We would love to come back 😊

Excellent Roman vegan food in a small but friendly restaurant in central Edinburgh. Second time there and even better than the first. The focaccia starter was so light, then a beautifully tasty pizza to follow. My wife had the rigatoni with pepper sauce and it was also great. Shared a tiramisu to round off a superb meal and not bad value either. 5 stars all round 😋

So good we went back a week later and ordered all the same things! You’ll genuinely forget they’re vegan! Everything was so creamy, and cheesy! Obsessed with this place. I don’t typically like cheesecake, but the Biscoff cheesecake was fabulous!

Absolutely delicious and delightful🥹!!! I am so glad I came here :) As someone who is allergic to milk, I never get to indulge in creamy pasta and cheese. This not only satisfied my cravings, but was so incredibly savoury and delicious, I ate really slowly and tried to savour every bite. Probably the best pasta I have ever eaten as someone allergic to milk :) The staff were also so friendly and they serve a jug of free tap water even without asking 😋 The toilet was also so clean and pretty!!! Definitely coming back again :) I recommend this restaurant to anyone even non vegans!!!

Went here the other day as family are in town. Would describe the venue as more cafe like than restaurant. While the food was tasty we felt it was completely overpriced. Staff were efficient and pleasant. However, while the portions were large the prices did not represent the food quality.

Visité este lugar con mi pareja para la noche de citas. Ninguno de los dos había estado antes, así que estábamos muy interesados. El sabor de la comida, era muy bueno. Sin duda la mejor pasta que he comido fuera de mi propia casa. La razón de la mala crítica, que es extremadamente lamentable. Era que la cadencia a la que salían las bebidas y la comida era inaceptable. No recibimos nuestras bebidas (latas de coca-cola) durante unos 25-30 minutos. Fue entonces cuando recibimos nuestras aceitunas. El primer curso llegó alrededor de 45 - 50 minutos en nuestra reserva. La pasta entró alrededor de una hora. Son un lugar muy pequeño, con capacidad para tal vez 25 portadas en cualquier momento. Me cuesta encontrar la razón por la que nuestra comida tomó tanto tiempo. Realmente está fuera de cualquier plazo razonable para la comida. Cuando nos fuimos, habíamos estado allí durante 1 hora y 20 minutos. La única otra queja que tengo, es que era obvio para mí que mi pasta había estado sentada en el pase o en un horno de baja temperatura durante un tiempo. Desafortunadamente, todavía venía bastante bien. Mi pareja y yo somos gerentes de restaurantes. Así que entendemos que a veces suceden cosas. Sin embargo, necesita ser mencionado para que en el futuro, no suceda. Sin duda volveremos, con suerte teniendo una mejor experiencia.

Rather expensive but very tasty! Best cream of tomato soup I've ever had

I'm not one to rave about or push five star reviews at a drop of a hat, but I'm about to do that for Sora Lela Roman Vegan Restaurant in Edinburgh, so strap in. The restaurant itself is intimate, with most of the magic happening well out of view. A well stocked bar and desert cabinet takes centre stage at the back and is the first thing you see when you walk in. We loved all the Roman "sayings" art that decorates the dining area and bathroom, particularly the sti cazzi one. 😂😂🎉🎉 To start I had a large glass of red wine and Peg had a pear juice, followed by Bruschetta Picante and Zoccolette Alla Sorrentina. I've been vegan for 19 years and I have NEVER tasted vegan cheese like that! The bruschetta was topped with nduja and blue cheese, a combination that was rich, with a little kick at the end. The pizza dumplings had a tomato and mozzarella sauce on them that would rival and indeed exceed any non-vegan version, with the parmesan shavings topping off the dish perfectly. We kept looking at each other as we dug in. We knew this whole meal was going to be special. For mains we ordered the Mezze Maniche alla Carbonara and Gnocchi Salsiccia e Crema Tartufata. In English that's carbonara and cheesy gnocchi, but my GOD it wasn't the basic, flavourless nonsense you would expect had a British person cooked these dishes. They were absolutely SENSATIONAL. The carbonara tasted as if the sauce had been flavoured with their home made bacon fat and the black pepper cut through the creamy sauce beautifully. With the other dish, the sauce stuck to the ridges in the gnocchi and filled my mouth with delight. Truffle is such a delicate flavour and to pair that with a smokey sausage and make it work? *Chef's kiss.* Desert is something I'm still thinking about on a daily basis: a traditional tiramisu served in a cappuccino mug and a white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. Incredible, delicious.....next level vegan cooking. At the end we had a brandy old fashioned and an amaro Montenegro. (The brandy was me liking the look of a bottle in that well stocked bar and the member of staff was more than happy to oblige. )

My partner and I dined in and had a lovely time! I’m lactose intolerant and my partner is a huge fan of pasta. It was wonderful to eat somewhere both of us could enjoy stress-free. We thought the tiramisu was great!

Way too expensive for what you're getting. My friend and I didn't even order drinks and spent over 50£. The Pizza is not stone baked and average at best- you can definitely prepare similar at home for 15-20£ less.

What an outstanding meal! We loved every bite of our salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert and our server Veronica was excellent. We highly recommend!

Great vegan food- homemade smoked seitan was delicious, as was the biscoff cheesecake! Little pricey, but then it's the centre of Edinburgh! Atmosphere was a little quiet when we first arrived but it was early on a Sunday afternoon, a change I'd front of house staff and music really helped with that part way through. Very authentic and tasty Italian food, would highly recommend

Comimos aquí con nuestra hija, ya que es vegana. Mi esposa y yo cocinamos principalmente comida vegetariana y vegana en casa, pero evitamos los sustitutos de la carne vegana. Así que hubiéramos preferido ver más elementos en el menú que no incluyeran sustitutos veganos. Dicho esto, disfruté del vodka penne alla que usaba seitán. La tarta de queso vegana era buena. Allerdings ist der Speiseraum sehr klein, also am besten einen Tisch vorher reservieren.

Food was delicious! My girlfriend and I had our flight cancelled so we got delivery to our hotel room. Was a much needed pick-me-up for a very hard day! :)

Wouldn‘t really recommend and can‘t understand the overwhelming reviews. My husband had the „quattro formaggi e funghi“, which was okay, but we already had two better pizzas in Edinburgh (one even in a non-vegan Restaurant). The spaghetti cacio e pepe was just bad to be onest. No taste of parmesan or cheese at all, just a creamy sauce like one you would by at a supermarket.

I left this restaurant so happy and satisfied. The food is incredible, it is slightly pricey but the produce you can tell it’s high quality. Staff are wonderful, the Chef cooks everything to perfection. The flavours are spot on. It has become my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. I get the urge to come here at least once a week. Please go, and enjoy it.

Had a lovely vegan dinner here. Salad, pasta, pizza all excellent. The tiramisu was fabulous. We would eat here regularly if we lived in the city!

Fantastic food, drinks and staff. Could not recommend more highly, will be back when in Edinburgh next year. They also bought water and bed for dog to sit under next table.

We had pizza and gnocchi. The pizza was the worst Magaritta I've ever eaten. I had quite a stomach ache afterwards. The noodles weren't great either. Far too expensive for the poor quality. Vegan is something different. The prices are simply too high. Unfortunately, the friendly staff cannot make up for this. In any case, we were there for the first and last time.

I ordered a takeaway margherita pizza and asked to add mushrooms. There were no prices on the menu for toppings so I assumed it would just be a reasonable charge. When it came to paying they added £3.90 for the mushrooms. The pizza came to around £20. I was completely gobsmacked and questioned this. The server looked very sheepish, and said that he thinks it’s a crazy price for mushrooms as well but didn’t do anything about it. I was too embarrassed not to pay and to just leave the pizza but I would never return as it just felt like they were fleecing customers for what they could get. I’m from London so used to high prices but this is something else - around double the price of a pizza in Purezza which is an outstanding vegan pizza place in London. Maybe they just thought I was a tourist passing through and that they may as well charge what they can get. Updated from previous review on 2024-08-22

This place has the most delicious food! Actual true Italian, Roman food and it’s guilt free because it’s all vegan! It’s the waiters are super nice and the deco is so cute! Only wish it was bigger for more people to enjoy!

Small, rude service, should have left when we walked in, smelled like the men’s toilet backed up.

Tried three pasta dishes - the carbonara, the truffle gnocchi and the zozzonna. All three were some of the best Italian food I've ever had. We also tried the Russian coffee style cocktail which was absolutely delicious. Way better than an espresso martini.

Incredible! We were overwhelmed with choice and all the dishes sounded amazing. We opted for the garlic foccacia, carbonara, and zozzona pasta. The foccacia was made flatbread style, but still delicious, the carbonara was full of ‘bacon’ bits, and the zozzona pasta was creamy and indulgent! The portions were huge & we even had some for lunch the next day. We finished with a tiramisu and panna cotta - probably the best I’ve ever had. Would recommend booking in advance - we visited on a Sunday eve & it’s quite a small place.

It was our last evening in Edinburgh. After travelling two and a half weeks through Scotland it was the best vegan diner we ever had. Best food, awesome staff. It was worth every pound.

Second visit here and it didn't disappoint again. Excellent food, the cacio e pepe is amazing, the truffle fries were really good as well. Great desserts, they make a lovely tiramisu, and if you get an affogato I'd recommend adding the Diasaronno.

Editing this to a well deserved 5 stars because regardless of my husband's opinions on the cheese, I just love this place. It's some of the best Italian food I have ever had! I can't wait to go back. I absolutely love this place and would have given it 5 stars if my husband had felt the same. He had the pizza and found the cheese to be too strong for him, but I loved all of the food! I had cheese ravioli, and we shared a garlic focaccia (which is huge!), and a hazelnut and orange tart. I also had a cocktail that was made from hazelnut liquor, coffee liquor and soya milk - it was lush! The service was a bit slow but I think our server was new to the job. There is a 10% service charge added to every bill, but they make this perfectly clear. This was actually our second time here, and although I loved it, I will admit that it wasn't as good as our first visit. The cheese did taste stronger than before, and our server the first time was excellent! I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sora Lella, and I will DEFINITELY be back!

Hands down the best vegan food I’ve ever tried. Like seriously. Can’t even describe how delicious food was. I had cacio e pepe pasta and it was beyond my expectations. My only regret is not visiting this place sooner. Will be back 100%.

I'm gluten-intolerant and the restaurant provides a separate menu for glutenfree food, with loads of options. What a delight to just be able to choose anything without having to think! Very tasty Italian food à la nonna and nice, cozy atmosphere. We had a wonderful time, thank you!

The food was disappointingly very average - I was very much looking forward to a vegan italian but the meat substitutes were poor, and the carbonara had far too much black pepper that the dish became very spicy. Not to mention the extortionate prices. Such a shame for a sweet place.

Could possibly be the best vegan Italian restaurant I've visited. Had the gorgonzola bruchetta and the deep fried arancini type thingies as a starter. Tasted great. The main was even better with a really creamy pasta carbonara. To top it off the tiramisu was also excellent, although a little expensive. But that was the only downside of a fantastic meal.

On Google Maps and Happy Cow it states open...yet it's not. Spent 30 minutes walking there and it was closed. Update your page...not even a mention of closure on your website.

Our second time here from a visit to Edinburgh a few years ago. The pasta was certainly better and it was also busier so clearly doing things right. The excellent vegan cheesy sauce pasta comes at a price £17.90 so appreciate others can pay this but we cant on a humble portion. Tables are tightly packed too, again appreciate it's a business and these folks need to get the covers but its not for us. Lots to like and if you haven't been, are vegan / vgn curious and crave decent Italian then go for it

I've never been to a vegan restaurant before, so did not know what to expect but I did enjoy it here! My starter, was a crostini with prosciutto and mozzarella. It was my first experience with vegan cheese and I'd say it was not the best. The dish was a bit bland in my opinion - though my friends who have eaten vegan in the past, say that the cheese for this restaurant is the best texture-wise that they've found. The main dish, the penne alla vodka was very nice though and I enjoyed it more. I think the vegan parmesan worked better for sure. Overall an enjoyable experience though and I would definitely recommend if looking for a vegan restaurant! I will say the restaurant is quite small though so booking is definitely recommended.

Four of us ate there this evening and the food couldn’t be faulted. Proper vegan fare that wasn’t trying to imitate meat/dairy but had a flavour and identity of its own.

Oh wow, I wasn’t expecting to find vegan food THIS good. We went there twice during our short stay in Edinburgh and both times were fantastic. I’ve eaten pasta equally good only in one other place - Italy. The pizza needed just a little bit of salt, but that’s not a proboem. The staff was nice, the place is small, but cozy. If I ever visit Edinburgh again, this will be the only place I’ll be eating at. Wouldn’t you guys think about expanding to other countries? You’d have a loyal customer in Kraków! (I’m only half joking).

Vegan pasta is often difficult to find, but unfortunately the food was “just” ok. As a vegan, I have often eaten very good vegan pasta and in comparison I was almost a little disappointed due to the very good reviews. The selection of dishes was really large and not the typical aglio e olio, but in my opinion the prices were a bit too high and there was just a certain kick missing from the pasta sauce (salt, spiciness, etc.). Unfortunately, the food was very heavy on our stomachs afterwards, which is rarely the case with vegan food.

Small, very simply furnished restaurant, seating cramped and somewhat uncomfortable. Friendly staff. Food was disappointing in taste (pasta/4formaggi almost without taste + seasoning). The Biancho pizza was also rather dry (truffle oil was there as a flavor marker). Starter and dessert were ok. But overall everything was overpriced - with the tip already automated it was €70. Rarely have we eaten vegan at such an expensive price without a taste experience - contrary to expectations, the food was still heavy in the stomach overnight. Unfortunately, all in all, not a recommendation :(

absolutely the best vegan + gluten free pizza i’ve ever had! such an extensive menu for anyone with a gluten intolerance. the service was great however our waiter did come back to get our plates a little early after the starter and before i’d finished my main which was a little awkward! but still lovely and welcoming with absolutely fab food! i will definitely be coming back when i’m next in edinburgh :)

Amazing! This is no imitation. It really IS Roman and VERY Italian, even down to the coffee. I'd love to get a look into the kitchen. I share the views of other commentators in that it's hard to read through the ingredients and remember that this place is VEGAN but......I disagree with anyone who calls it 'expensive'; for us, it was great VALUE FOR MONEY. The service was perfectly Italian and therefore superb. I haven't had a better vegan meal in Edinburgh!

Hands down the best meal I had in two weeks in the UK. Actually meant to get the matriciana but hadn’t realized there were two bucatini mains on the menu. Got the cacio e pepe and: Mind Blown. So. Freaking. Good. Excellent arugula/balsamic glaze/parmesan salad and their lemonade cocktail was to die for. Very friendly service and a lovely cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!

So basically went there yesterday, and food was lovely. We went there today and the waiter was really rude, we had just walked 17 km, and wanted to have a latte and some dessert but he said they are a restaurant and don't just serve drink, he basically told us to get out, he could have said you can take a drink or desert foe takeaway but decided to ruin our lovely day. Anyway I won't be recommending this restaurant anymore because of the really unprofessional way he treated us.

Don’t walk, RUN to Sora Lella! First of all, Lella is my mum’s name, so we’re off to a great start. We had been here four years ago and thought of Sora Lella’s food ever since. Today we went back as we came to Edinburgh for a wedding and boy oh boyyyyy their food is still amazing. I am a chef and I am very impressed. I need more of this everywhere. Love the queer friendly vibe and staff is great too! Lovely little spot, I hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Lovely little vegan Italian bistro. We had the Penne Alla Vodka and the Penne Quattro Formaggio Funghi which were very tasty. I think the Formaggio Funghi was the best cheesy mushroom pasta I've ever had since being vegan for 6 years. If you like a little bit of heat, I would recommend asking for chilli oil for the Penne Alla Vodka. The service was very attentive and the portion sizes were large and we had plenty of leftovers to take home with us. Unfortunately they were out of tiramisu which was very disappointing because we really wanted to try - instead we got the raspberry cheesecake to takeaway which was okay but personally tasted too much like "Violife" vegan cheese for my palette.

We came last night for dinner and the food was outstanding (especially the Bologese rice balls & Carbonara). The service was fast and the staff were very helpful. I will say the meal was little bit pricey, but considering this is a small family-run restaurant in Edinburgh we were happy enough with the price including the service charge. For anyone who is eats vegan/veggie/dairy free, this is definitely a must!!

Small all vegan restaurant. I was very excited for these since you rarely find vegan Italian pasta. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed. The food is tasty and good, but not amazing. For me, it lacked some spice. I'd still recommend trying if you are looking for good vegan pasta.

Beautiful food, gfci menu was excellent too. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was tasty. In such a small space they created a wonderfully calm and kind atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Disclaimer: I am not a vegan. We went here during our trip to Edinburgh because my friend was curious of vegan Italian food. I ordered cacio e pepe and my friend penne vodka. My cacio e pepe is creamy and looks as it should be, however, there's something that vegan food can't replicate, and that's cheese! Don't get me wrong, I love vegan food and I make it often home, but vegan cheese just doesn't cut it, so despite my cacio e pepe being creamy and in the right consistence, the taste is not right, hence the 3 stars. The service was on point though.

Wow! Very friendly staff and absolutely delicious Italian food! We had the carbonara and the quattro formaggi e funghi pasta and the panacotta and tiramisu for dessert. Everything tasted soooo good and we would definitely come back. Recommend it very much 😍😍😍

The food was ok, one of the gnocchi had too much pepper on it. We spent £100 (a bottle of wine, two pasta dishes, pizza, side salad, bread) here last night and do not feel that the prices justify the nutrition and quality of the food but it wasn’t bad. We had the pasta with bread and salad and still felt hungry so got a pizza to share. The staff were lovely. Would be nice to have pepper as optional.

WOW! This place was just incredible! The food was delicious. Quite possibly the best Italian food we have ever had. We are not vegan but were blown away by the food.
