My father took me for dinner here and as I had not had much Japanese food before I was concerned I would not be able to find something I liked that was not sushi. I was very pleasantly surprised at how extensive the menu was with so many different choices. I had the chicken with sticky rice dish and also the chicken dumplings. Both were cooked perfectly and the dumplings were not greasy at all, they were perfectly crisp! The care the wait staff took is also worth mentioning as we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. Their customer service could not have been better! I definitely recommend this place, you will definitely find something you will like on the menu!

DISAPPOINTING - Lovely friendly staff, but tables too close together (We could feel the couple next to us breathing )Mediocre food and awful toilet facilities , located just off the kitchen.

Really lovely atmosphere and amazing food! The staff are all really friendly and everyone seemed to take real pride in the food and service. We ordered a big mixture of food to share and everything was absolutely delicious. For the quality of food I felt the pricing was fair. Need to go back again so we can try the rest of the menu!

I'm Japanese and really enjoyed lunch here. All the food served here is the same what l used to eat in Japan. Especially l recommend a eel donburi. It was amazing. Macha pudding for desserts was also delicious. This restaurant is crowded, to reservation is recommended. I want to come here again soon.

This is the second time eating at Kitchen Sora. The food is amazing. The salmon flake rice ball are the best I’ve ever tasted. The quality of the food is outstanding. Very relaxed environment and service was brilliant. I just wished I lived nearer so we could go all the time.

Tiny place with lots of character. The starter/tapas menu was delicious, especially the pork belly and the dumplings. Katzu curry went down very well as did the seafood noodles - beautifully presented sides came with. Very friendly waiters that coped well with the covid screens in such a small space. They deserve to do well.

Came here as part of the eat out to help out scheme. nice little place, only has 5-6 tables so is small but that adds to its charm. The staff are great. and the food is delicious. and a good price (although it was a deal they put on for the scheme) will definitely be going back.

Sora is a delightful little restaurant and will likely capitalise on the UK's currently insatiable appetite for Japanese food. We dined mid week; as part of a "Tapas meal" we were served a starter, Bento Box main and a small bowl of ice cream for dessert. Service was excellent and I felt at ease asking for expert advice on what Sake I should order and what temperature it should be served, they have a lot of Sake! Highlight for me was the Miso Salmon and I loved the Miso soup that is included as an extra. While I've never been to Japan, this felt authentic to me. The owner evening popped out of the kitchen to thank us, she is so cute and lovely. If you are looking for a passionate independent restaurant to try Japanese food, this is it.

Lovely little place, friendly, unpretentious, probably 24 covers max.Excellent food. A mix of shared tapas/ starters Japanese style + four different mains including 'specials'.Delightful self-deprecating waiter, well informed and checked with the kitchen on ingredients as one of our party is diabetic. Rather sinister looking sesame ice cream. Looked like mortar but tasted fine; very palette-cleansing. Coffees fine, especially expresso. Highly recommend. Opens 4 days a week. Booking probably essential. king

We have managed to get a table in this tiny restaurant twice without a reservation but we only live round the corner so I’d definitely recommend booking if you’re travelling from further afield. All the staff we have encountered are charming and very happy to explain anything you don’t understand about the menu or Japanese cuisine in general! We don’t eat meat and have found plenty of veggie/fish options. Everything we have ordered has been wonderful! I particularly like the potsticker dumplings which are the best I’ve ever had. Can’t go wrong with the sushi either. We had around 6 dishes, a bottle of wine, two desserts and a pot of tea and the bill came to £68 which feels like good value given the skill and high quality ingredients involved. Highly recommended. We’ll definitely be returning!

A two-course meal for three people was very reasonably priced, tasty, beautifully presented and varied in flavours. The very helpful staff were much appreciated by the two novices in our party. Sora may be small and unostentatious but has a warm, friendly ambiance. Will certainly go there again

Had a great experience at Sora. The waiter was lovely, we had a nice conversation with him and he helped us choosing our dishes and telling us about their family business. The food was great, we had ginger pork and dumplings, some sides and ice cream for dessert. I would recommend trying the black sesame ice cream, it was incredible. The meal was much cheaper than what we were expecting, plus we were offered free snacks at the start of the meal and after desserts. It was a pleasant surprise! The place is really small, as we were sitting quite close to other tables, but not too much, it gave a very homely and genuine feeling. I felt like I didn't just have a good time with my boyfriend, but also with the other people who were having a meal around us. Everybody was really friendly. I will be going back!

Very nice meal! The staff is great and the food is absolutely delicious! They have many different traditional Japanese dishes and their desserts are freshly made. I must say though, as a student, it is quite expensive and I therefore couldn’t come back more often as I would like too. However, apart from that for a special occasion I had a wonderful time!

Had been looking forward to my second visit, for lunch with family. The food is good and authentic, but it is over-priced, especially for lunch, and the portions are small. For example, it was more than £16 for a noodle dish, or a katsu chicken - the rice portion for the latter was very small, and would not filled me up. Not good value.

We came here as initially the place we wanted to go to was broke up. Walked past here many times before and even though we had wondered what it was like, we had never gone in. I am never making that mistake again. To start with the staff are incredibly friendly and really welcoming. they make sure you are okay but don't hassle every 2 seconds. And the food. Wow just wow. Authentic Japanese food that just tastes fantastic. And it comes out really quickly. We got several of the tapas dishes and none of them disappointed. A great range of food as well. The price isn't that high either - less than we thought it would be based on the quality of the food and service.I would really recommend to anyone to go here and I will definitely be coming back

Our son & daughter-in-law brought us here for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. There were 4 of us on a Friday night. We tried to book last night but they were full so definitely book to make sure as the restaurant isn't large. Only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and lunch at the moment. We had 6 tapas of honey duck, teriyaki chicken, aubergine, seafood dumplings, seafood king rolls and edamame and then 2 of us had a main meal curry, another had a soup and I had another seafood dumplings & some chicken wings. Then we had dessert as well. We weren't disappointed with any of the food as all was delicious. The guy serving us was very helpful and friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. We come from Australia so unfortunately won't be back but our children come here regularly. Definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic place in Beeston. Owned and ran by Yuka a Japanese lady and she clearly attracts those that want the taste of home as there are always Japanese’s people eating there whenever I go. The buzz of the language in the background, the etiquette, the food, even the small dining room, tea cups, bowls and simple furniture all makes for an extremely authentic experience. We are lucky to have this in Beeston and I have recommended many people here. Admitting the service is not always the fastest but they are relatively new and still finding their feet. The food and service makes this easy to forgive.

We enjoyed our weekend lunch at Sora. The menus has photos of most plates which is helpful as the choices were pretty new to all of us. The service is friendly and efficient, the food was tasty but portion sizes are small and not particularly filling. The iced green tea was disappointing - just a plastic bottle of ready made green tea drink from the fridge.

A very authentic Japanese tapas style cafe/restaurant is finally open in Nottingham (Beeston). This is probably the first Japanese food restaurant in East Midlands cooked by a Japanese woman! The food is very authentic and of course delicious. If you step inside the restaurant, you will feel like being in Japan. All food is very fresh and their cake is amazingly Japanese (soft and delicately sweet). It's a hidden jewel in East Midlands. Lots of Japanese people dine there and it's always a good sign.

Came for a lunch and was very disappointed. I had chorizo hash dish that wasn’t chorizo it was fried luncheon meat or something certainly not chorizo. The taste was awful tasted of burnt plastic. No hash just bits of potatoes and a couple of rocket leaves sat in loads of oil in a dirty skillet dish. My husband ordered toast and peanut butter served to him without a knife. A tiny thimble of peanut butter and over priced. I requested some salt and was brought an empty salt cellar. One more thing my tea was served with a badly cracked cup very unhygienic and dangerous if it fell apart. Over priced food that was pretty awful and not what it was claiming to be. Service very poor although polite but still. Didn’t complain as we didn’t choose to eat there and didn’t want to cause a fuss. Had I been on my own I would have demanded my money to be refunded.
