Sopa in Richmond upon Thames

This was amazing! The service is very attentive, they quickly replaced the tap water without being asked, they topped up our wine after asking, and the food was served quickly and efficiently. The Tom Kha soup here was the absolute best Tom Kha I have ever had (and I've tried many). I would come back JUST for that, but I sampled a little of every dish my friends ordered and everything was incredible. Red curry, massaman curry, the tamarind duck (strongly recommend), it was all impecable. They even brought the birthday girl's dessert with a candle and sang for us with the lights off. This hidden gem right next to Strawberry Hill station definitely deserves more attention, I will definitely be returning. The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. (The mango sticky rice was phenomenal as well. Blown away by every course.)

I had the pleasure of visiting Sopa Thai restaurant for the first time, and I was truly impressed by my experience. Mr. Yogesh, who was my server on Saturday, provided exceptional service with such warmth and friendliness. It made me feel welcome and appreciated. And I have to say, the food was absolutely amazing! I left with a smile, truly grateful for the wonderful hospitality and delicious dishes.

This place used to be great but it must have changed hands or menu as my recent visit was very disappointing. I used to love the Massamam curry but the one I got today was awful. Really bland and no sauce at all. Cheap meat too. Shame really

We ordered a variety of dishes. For starters we ordered the platter which was not the best. We definitely enjoyed the main more (Pad Thai, masumang curry, coconut nut rice and spicy noodles).

I used to buy a lot of takeouts from them but I’m drawing the line today. A stir fry with rice that understandably went up in price after Covid to £15 has over the last summer break reached £20 marking 35%/60% increase over the last summer/last three years. That’s absurd and I will not entertain the greed of the owners. You’re good but so are many of your reasonably priced competitors.

The food here is some of the tastiest Thai food I’ve ever eaten. We usually order take away however one word of warning: their Thai green curry is far too hot, much hotter than it needs to be. My eyes were melting. I dread to think what their red curry would be like. I hope they tone it down somewhat. I understand that authentic Thai food is extremely hot but it should be toned down to make it more compatible with the average british palette. That would be appreciated.

High hopes fell very short. ***Potentially dangerous approach to food prep*** A total lack of any understanding of food allergies that ruined our evening, and for me, the following 48 hours. Unusually for Thai food, Gluten was listed in nearly all of the dishes on the menu. (Instant red flag. Processed food, not fresh) I'm a Coeliac, so this was a little disappointing. After asking our (polite, and attempting to be, helpful) waiter, he double checked with the kitchen and told me the few dishes I could eat. The following chaos resulted in me being served a dish containing gluten, which even the chef assured me was GF. One bite later, I asked to see the ingredients. Confidently shoving a bag of panko breadcrumbs in my face, the manager insists it's safe for me to eat. However, the first item listed on the packet was Wheat flour, and in bold, 'Gluten'. Sadly, it became apparent the whole team had no knowledge of the allergen content of ANYTHING on the menu. The spice mixes and sauces were all processed/ready made, and amending anything on the menu was impossible. The owner/manager's only response was to angrily and sarcastically ask me if she needed to call me an ambulance, and tell me I needed to take her a note from a doctor to confirm any effects of the contamination. Sopa failed spectacularly on all counts. Service, food and customer care, and should probably stick to being a take-away only, with a caveat of 'we cannot cater for food allergies'. There is infinitely better Thai food with great service, available in nearby Twickenham and Hampton.

Greatly improved food! went a couple of years ago and never went back. Stopped in recently and was happy to find it went from average to actually rather nice! would recommend!

We were in a rush to get a train and told food could be ready in about 15 minutes which was great. The food ended up arriving in 5 minutes! Tasty food and super friendly staff. Thank you for such a quick service, we got our train no trouble at all!

The food was very nice as expected, frying papaya salad was an unusual take on the dish but surprisingly was still quite nice. Maybe we just got lucky but we were the only people in the restaurant so the atmosphere was quite peaceful and relaxing after a long day at Twickenham Stadium. The waitress there was very helpful and attentive. Overall great restaurant definitely recommend you to come here for a meal with your family and friends.

My friend ordered a delivery for us last night through Uber eats. We paid for 3 mains and a rice. It was dark and pouring out. The meals arrived quickly, but when it arrived, we queried with the driver where the 3 rd meal was. He said it was all there. It was a very small bag so there was no way 4 containers were in there. Also, the bag was literally swimming in sauce! When we took it inside. There were definitely only 2 mains and a rice. When we queried it, they would only refund £2! Will never use them again! Shocking they would not refund the whole meal! Either that or the driver stole the meal!

I ordered a delivery through Uber eats from this restaurant on 8/2/2024. I ordered 3 meals and 1 rice. When the delivery came there was a container missing. I pointed this out to the driver, he acted all confused checked his bag and said there was no more. The bag I was given was full of liquid where the meals had leaked and when I got it indoors I discovered a Cashew nut prawn stir fry was missing from the order. I immediately messaged Uber eats on the App to report this. They replied saying they would refund me £2 for the missing prawns. The whole meal was missing not just the prawns. I responded to this message but have had no further response. I rang the restaurant direct to complain and they said they definitely packed 4 dishes implying I was lying. I was angry and they said they would contact Uber and hung up on me. All I can think is the driver took the meal if the restaurant are sure they sent it. I don’t know how to contact Uber to Pursue this complaint but I will not be using them or this restaurant until I have had a full refund for the missing food.

Today 22/12/23 I went with my family to this restaurant " sopas " with the idea of having a good dinner however the food BAD BAD BAD. THE NOODLES OVER COOKED LIKE GLUE and the prawns were not fresh. They was dry and it was poorly presented. The starter also was BAD BAD BAD ' tofu 'dreadfully deep fried and disgusting full of cheap oil. Expensive AND disappointed

I ordered some food from that establishment through the deliveroo app. After I received my order, I came across a bug in rice. And I called them and told them about the bug, they didn’t say sorry and asked me ‘what do you want?’. They really should care for hygiene to get rid of flies in their kitchen.

Usually have takeaway from here but thought we would dine in for a birthday treat. Highly recommend the chicken satat, prawn tempura, beef masaman and prawn pad thai. Food really well priced, but £7.50 for a pint of beer felt a lot! Looking forward to trying more off the menu, thank you.

We visited for the 2nd time and it was just as good as the first. We ordered spring rolls, floating market rolls, chicken pad thai, tofu green curry. Spring rolls are light and flavoursome (4 in the portion-£6.50)The market rolls are veg wrapped in rice paper. (6 for £6.50) they had a stronger taste than I Remember last time and quite a mint kick, but refreshing and lovely dipped in sweet chilli sauce. . The Thai curry is a good combination of heat and flavour, I love the taste! The heat isn’t overpowering but you know it’s there. This is my go to dish. I had that with jasmine rice (Thai curry-£10.95, rice £3.95) My wife enjoyed the chicken pad thai (£10.95). I do enjoy pad Thai but I prefer dishes with more flavour. We only had tap water so no charge. Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly. Negatives- the takeaway drivers are non stop and the door is continually opening, making the Bells ring which was a bit annoying . I think to stop this they then left it completely open which someone then complained it being cold. I personally feel they should have another entrance. To top it off, I come outside and a driver is leaning/sat on my car on his phone !! Also, the staff seem quite consumed by the deliveries and they’re not as attentive to the tables as they should be. Maybe this is because there are less staff mid week. Will return to try more dishes

First experience trying thai food and it tasted amazing

I went to Sopa Thai Restaurant with my parents when we were at Teddington last week. It was one of the best Thai experiences I had for a while. The food was very tasty, nice portion sizes, the coconut ice cream was nice too. The staff were amazing & very respectful. The interior decorations were superb! Lots of boxes to ✅. I'd highly recommend Sopa Thai if you are out and about in Teddington. Well done Sopa Thai. Thank you.🙏

This place has become a robbery injunction. Last time i ordered 2 dishes and there were half a portion each, so when i told them they said they will give me a discount on my next order… and today, for get the discount they promised, they have sent the incorrect dish and wont accept responsibility. I WILL NOT order or go back there again… this us a day light robbery!!

Best authentic Massaman curry this side of London that delivers. Chefs always happy to make extra spicy as requested too, my local go and is bursting with flavour.

We've been going to Sopa for many years but felt let down last night. We had a lovely meal with 1 bottle of our wine and were charged 2 x £5 corkage.But the staff were adamant that that was the rule of corkage. AND If we had been 4 it would have been £20. It DOESN'T / DIDNT state that clearly on their website.We read it as for bottle. Corkage in restaurants IS NORMALLY per bottle - What had been a lovely meal was soured and the staff refused to budge saying they weren't able to change the rules. The service charge should also discretionary. .This is Twickenham NOT Earlscourt or the West End

Amazing food who is great consistency. We have eaten there are several times and it is always equally good. We always ate the coconut soup (tom kha) starter and the green curry. Overall, the experience is very pleasant for both eat in and take away. One of the best Thai restaurants we have tried in London.

I'm sorry what? Ramen, uncooked, straight from the packet on to the plate? Are you serious? Despite the very good waitress I'm not coming back in a hurry. A shame as had been looking forward to coming here for some time.

Beautiful food and wonderful service. Parking was easy and cheap. You can pay on the app and was less than £2 for four hours. Very clean and relaxing atmosphere. I had alcohol free Cobra which was fab as I am observing Lent but there is a wide choice of drink including cocktails I had a tofu massamun with sticky rice and I had Calamari as a starter and it was all divine! Highly recommend!

Aways amazing food, efficient service and good price

Sopa is a bit of an institution around Strawberry Hill and we'd only had take-aways in the past. Our first eat-in for a major family celebration didn't disappoint. Tasty food, decent portions, served by friendly, attentive people in a nice casual atmosphere. Just a pity about the trail of bikers in and out collecting take-away orders.

We've been going to Sopa for many years but felt really let down last night. Usually we either get a takeaway or eat in with soft drinks but last night we had a meal with 1 bottle of wine and were charged 4 x £5 corkage even though 2 of us weren't drinking! Reliable local Thai restaurant run by a Thai family and with a good reputation in the area. Cozy dining for eat-in (recently refurnished) and speedy take-away / delivery. Usual “English Thai” style menu with specials. We are regular customers and have seldom had less than very good meals here.

The food was delicious with good amounts of meat/seafood and a nice level of spice. The Thai iced tea was one of the best I've ever had, though unfortunately it was 80% ice and 20% drink so maybe I'll ask for less ice next time. Portions are very good, even on the £9.99 set lunch menu, and the restaurant looks lovely inside. Will definitely be back. The only downside is that the staff weren't the most friendly or cheerful at the start, they became more friendly by the end, and we had to get up and find them when we were ready to order and ready to pay despite us being the only customers. I think they were busy training someone but would have been nice if they were a little more proactive.

Go to Thai takeaway in the area - they do a great gluten free Pad Thai. They don't use MSG and it is always delicious. Would highly recommend.

Amazing food cannot wait to come back

I found Sopa through my Dine Club app. They offered a 241 deal but the app states that you need to ring Sopa to advise you are a Dine member. I called their number through the Dine app but was told the restaurant had never heard of Dine Club. Dine Club states they don’t advertise a restaurant unless pre-approved so a bit confusing. And disappointing.

Pre Covid Sopa was one of my two “go-to” places to eat and take friends for good Asian food and value. So, I was really looking forward to going back and enjoying the food. Sadly, I was extremely disappointed. The restaurant has had a makeover. More brown wood, new chairs, tables and quite tastefully done, less “homely” than before but in line with restaurants that I have visited in Thailand. A good job. It is still BYOB but now with a corkage charge which is quite significant. We opted for a house wine selection and draught Singha. The latter was pub price, the wine expensive for what it was. The courses had risen in price as well, although not massively. The major disappointment was the food. My starter was Chicken Satay. The chicken may have died of dehydration it was so dry. Where previously it had glistened coming off the fire with the marinade it just looked reheated and tasted that way. Sitting at a restaurant table I do not want food to taste like the takeaway driver took a long time to reach me. The Green Curry for mains had a good sauce, well done but again, the chicken inside it was not soft, it did not taste like it had been marinated in the sauce. Very disappointing as it was really good previously. In the end worse food for a higher price – a true disappointment.

It was a wet evening, people were hobbling through the dark winter evening, their jackets wrapped tightly across their shoulders. You could sense that a cheering up was in order, for all across London. I was sat in a pub with a few mates, shooting the breeze and having a chuckle, when from nowhere came a fantastic idea. "Shall we eat?", the idea floated into the air, like a beautiful colourful balloon filled with rainbows. "Yes" we all agreed, "but where?" said my friend who had been living in Scotland for a while. I looked my other friend in the eye, another local, and we just knew, like telepathy. "Sopa" we said in unison. We hadn't been since the refurbishment and wanted to see it in its shiny new glory. We headed there, it wasn't far away, its tucked in snuggly (like a well loved child) next to Strawberry Hill Station. We entered and were greeted warmly by the waitresses, given a pick of 2 available tables, and shown to our tables, and boy o boy did the waitresses make you feel like the king of the land. You are allowed to bring in a bottle of your own liquor if you so desire (for a corkage fee of £5 per person), as we did, and the waitress immediately asked if we'd like it opened, we did. She opened the wine with a flourish and it was poured into the glass and then down our gullets. We were given our time to decide, and then we were approached and asked for our order. We only ordered crackers to start as we were rather full off our jars of lager from the pub, even so the crackers were a delight and the sweet chilli sauce was perfect. Our mains and rice came quickly, well what can i say, the food was delicious, the perfect amount of heat and flavour. The rice was cooked to perfection and flavoursome. We were in heaven, floating on a breeze, whilst outside it rained and blew like an angry toddler. Anyway, you know that thing Italians do where they press their thumb, index and middle finger together, kiss the fingers and then release them with a flourish whilst saying "mwah"? Well that is how i would describe this meal, it was great. Staff were lovely and the perfect amount of attentive, food was top bananas and we even got a mint at the end! Would recommend. Unfortunately we were really disappointed in what we thought would be a simple Sunday night takeout. Singapore noodles were bland and resembled yellow chow mein. My spicy flat noodles actually inedible due to the amount of chili which I've never found to be an issue before. Stomach cramps minutes after having a couple mouthfuls. Moved onto the crispy squid which was pale, not crispy and felt strange in texture. Best thing we had were the spring rolls but that's not saying much. 30 pounds + and most of it in the bin. Confused and disappointed as this all seemed a safe bet and a nice place to try.

Cannot stop eating Sopa Thai! Can’t recommend the Penang enough. Have been to Thailand and Malaysia many times and this really takes me back. Order it - you won’t regret!

AMAZING. My partner and I were gobsmacked at the quality of the food. The best , most authentic Thai food we’ve ever had! Reasonable pricing , excellent customer service. We were so surprised the restaurant was empty on a Saturday! Why ?! The food is so good!!! Going to recommend to all our family and friends! The sopa platter is to die for!

This was a delivery not eat in - poor quality food, portions small, and not good value for money. The food has deteriorated here and not anyway as good as it once was.

Not great unfortunately...£46 and we got mushy prawns and quite dry chicken which needed more satay sauce. The dim sum was nice. There are much better Thai restaurants in the area, like charm Thai, which are cheaper and tastier.

Lovely food but not very busy for a Friday night. We need to support this great local business. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great food, great service and lovely experience.

This was very expensive for a really disappointing meal. It cost us £42+ We ordered two starters and one main with one rice and one Pad Thai with prawns. Ordering via App was easy, delivery quick and efficient. The joy stopped there. Two starters were mediocre. It was all edible but I hope the dodgy tasting prawn was ok( won’t know until morning) but the Pad Thai was just a lump of noodles with 4 prawns. The Egg fried rice was ok, but Cashew Nut with veg and Tofu was bland. So result is that we won’t bother again and really can’t recommend. Sorry.

Small portions - seriously overpriced for the amount of food you get. Containers appear to be only 2/3rds the size of alternative local Thai restaurants yet prices are the same or higher.

Since the previous owner changed, service standards below average and also food portions are smaller and expensive. Only positive side is the restaurant has been painted

Fantastic Thai food! We has the pad thai and that was probably the best one I've had in a long time. It had the nice balance of sweet, spicy and sticky. The other dish was the chilli lemon sauce and steamed fish and that was utterly divine. It was high quality cooking and this dish could adorn any top restaurant's menu. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was perfectly sour and chilli. The final dish was chilli noodles with chicken and again it didn't miss a beat - crispy vegetables and perfectly chilli. All our plates left the table spotless and that says it all about the food here. Service was friendly and just right.

Order was accepted at 19:29 and canceled a 20.30. Don't order online with this restaurant. EDIT: It turned out that the delivery cancellation was caused by Uber Eats delivery driver and not the fault of the restaurant. However, if the restaurant is going to offer these services they need to be sure the their partner's can deliver.

Food and service are both excellent..

I just paid £7.95 for Tom Yum soup. I'm not even sure I can call it "soup". Watery, containing few mushrooms and tomatoes plus FOUR prawns. That's madness, highway robbery!!! Really disappointed
