We ate in and don't expect swift service but the food was excellent and real value for money!!!

Called in for a takeaway. Very pleased with the beef stir fry and chicken fried rice. Had loads of flavour and the portion size was amazing. Excellent service. Will happily return.

We got a takeaway here as we arrived a bit too late to eat in. We were pleasantly surprised with the tastiness of our meals at such reasonable prices! We heartily recommend the vegetable Thai red curry and vegetable sweet & sour, and sticky rice! 😋 The chap taking our order was friendly & let us use the toilet whilst we waited. Would happily return again to eat in.

I never do reviews, but it was honestly the worst customer service I've ever had! We ordered the set menu, which was £23.50pp to eat in or £21.50pp take away. We wanted an evening out to celebrate so decided to eat in. We asked whether we could take the food away if we couldn't eat everything and we were told that it would not be a problem. The food was good but not the best Thai food I've ever had. There was lots left over and the man serving us put it in some take away boxes for us. We heard lots of comments during our meal about how they preferred to be paid in cash etc. We were not told cash only at any point. My husband went out during our meal to find a cash point and withdraw £55 in cash to cover our meal (expecting just under £2 in change) in order to prevent awkwardness at the end. The bill arrived and this is when it all got weird... Our bill arrived and there was no breakdown just a figure of almost £60 written on a slip of paper. We both only had 1 soft drink so we couldn't understand the large additional cost. We asked for a breakdown on the bill, thinking we had accidentally been charged for somebody else's drinks. But no we were advised that we were being charged £1 per plastic box to take the food away!!!! I pointed out that we are already paying a lot extra to eat in (including the inflated costs of all items) and that if we had a takeaway at a much cheaper cost for the same food, they would have included the plastic trays in that cost. I searched Amazon and found you could purchase these boxes for £0.09 per box. Other diners in the restaurant made comments to us about where we could purchase our own cheaper food boxes from etc. I walked 10mins to a shop to buy food bags so we could take our food home without having to pay a crazy amount of money and having to go to the cash point again. While I was gone, I phoned my husband, which is when it all kicked off. Other diners from other tables got involved and pointed out that it's a ridiculous charge and it should have been mentioned beforehand, at the point of ordering. The waiter was saying that the boxes are expensive and that they wouldn't buy them on Amazon because they don't know the quality. £1 per box covers the cost of the boxes they buy. At that point the waiter got frustrated, raised his voice and stormed off to fetch the boss (chef). She repeated the same things that the waiter said, saying that they need to cover their costs and we needed to pay for the plastic boxes they had given us, claiming that we were being unreasonable by questioning this. This is when several other people in the restaurant got involved, agreeing with us and pointing out that they had never seen such an approach taken elsewhere and saying how unfair it is to add such a charge on at the end without any communication about it at any point. People who were waiting for a take away also expressed their surprise and disbelief at what we were being asked to pay for. Eventually after loads of awkwardness and embarrassment he took it off the bill and we paid for the original expected amount with the £55 we had withdrawn from the cash point. We were then asked if we wanted our change?!!!?! I mean do you seriously think we would leave a tip after all of that? I've never been anywhere without leaving a 10% tip, so ironically most of the plastic boxes would have been paid for through the tip if the poor customer service hadn't upset the entire restaurant!

Great authentic taste, little slicey but that comes with being an authentic Thai. Small places but friendly staff. Great prices and huge portions. Highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic home cooked food, probably the best green Thai chicken curry I have ever had, just the right amount of heat and a lovely flavour, portions are huge, not a gripe just a fact, we will be having it again for lunch tomorrow 😋.

Ordered takeaways while visiting family here. Generous portions and very tasty. Highly recommend the mixed seafood salad with glass noodles-freshly made and delicious!

Amazing food, all freshly made…which takes a long time if you’re caught during a busy time. Plan ahead and don’t be put down by the waiting time as the food is plenty and very rewarding.

Ordered for 3, the food will be good for 6. Taste wonderful and as a takeaway it was ready exactly on time

Drove into bridport quite late. It was nice to find good food still available. The English girl at the counter was lovely, very friendly, it was nice to have a chat while waiting for our takeaway. Chicken Panang was delicious

The best Thai Takeaway. Very generous portions, absolutely delicious. Tom yum soup, Thai green curry &rice, Padthai noodles, Seafood platter and the sauce is to die for. Thank you, will return when we back in Bridport.

The food was delicious. Would highly recommend. We had the tempura battered vegetables, classic Thai green veggie curries with 'on the house' crackers and banana fritters for dessert 😋 Great portion sizes. For my partner it brought back fond memories of his Thailand travels. Derek and his talented Thai partner were so attentive and we were very pleased to have stumbled upon their Thai restaurant!

I hate leaving a negative review, and normally don't, but felt I had to, on this occasion. I was in a big hurry, and needed to get something to eat. I did explain that I was in a huge hurry, and that might have affected the cooking? I ordered a fried rice, and Thai style sweet and sour. The rice was almost uncooked, other than the "batching" that every outlet that serves rice, does. Barely warm, and very little evidence it had actually been fried. Being unfamiliar with Thai food, I'd expected a sweet & sour chicken to be a basic dish? To be fair, the portion was huge, but it contained lots of ingredients I wasn't expecting. Tomato, cucumber, pineapple (OK, that's understandable), but way too busy for my taste. As I said, I don't know Thai food, but this just seemed to be a hotch potch of stuff that only complicated the dish? I was hungry, and normally will scoff anything, but I'm sad to say, I threw this away.

We ordered a vegetarian mixed platter and sticky rice between two of us. Such generous portions size! Very reasonable price for good quality food. Sauces free and prawn crackers on the house, plus a hidden salad with the platters☺️

We ordered a home delivery and it was excellent. Superb value for money, generous portion sizes and the food was all delicious. Somtum Thai was recommended to us as we don't live local and it did not disappoint.

Visited here last minute on a brief trip to Dorset.. I've lived in Thailand for many years, so I frequently visit Thai restaurants around Europe to forfil my cravings. Delicious green and massaman curry, very authentic taste, hot in temperature, great portion and a little spicy, Perfect! It was quickly served too. Really friendly owner that talked with me about Thailand. His Thai wife is an amazing chef, I strongly recommend a visit. I'm salivating thinking about it, I shall return ASAP. Thank you for topping a brilliant day!!

We did a takeout for our first night at our holiday cottage. The food servings was plenty and it was also well cooked and tasty. We finished the lot the next few days.

Great food and service. Not licenced so bring your own alcohol but it does provide soft drinks. It's small inside and booking is recommended

Worse than dreadful, honestly felt like somebody had gone to Morrisons, bought "Thai" ingredients and gently warmed it for me to eat. Prawns were clearly frozen with no flavour and almost no texture, noodles resembled something I once constructed on day 5 of a festival with a calor gas stove and the spicy beef salad was just a lettuce leaf with some tomato's, cucumber and chillis thrown into tinfoil ,container with a less than mediocre dressing. So so very disappointed and upset to have spent my money here. There's clearly no talent in the kitchen, just another pit to throw money at. I don't normally have bad things to say about food but this was by far the least enjoyable take away I've ever purchased.

The pad khing chicken with sticky rice is excellent, as is the thai green curry. Great value!

Very nice, food 😋. Lovely place to eat, but just a bit cold inside. With the door open and closing. Without heating inside,the restaurant in the winter. But apart from that Lovely.

Dreadful meal last night. Worst ever. A row in the kitchen with the young lad serving - who had only done 3 days of training. Some of the food inedible (spring rolls) . They close for a month now - maybe old left overs being used up?? Won't be going back. Won't be going back.

Took takeaway for family on Friday evening. No one in the family enjoyed the food. All food was in oil based sauces and everything was very oily. Good for nothing.

We picked up dinner for 2 people, delivery was very smooth, no problems at all. The food on the other hand leaves much to be desired. We ordered a house special fried rice, pad gra pao pork and a somtam mixed platter. The fried rice lacked flavour and tasted quite bland. The pad gra pao was very liquid and came across as more of a soup, we had to boil it to make it more like a sauce and remove excess liquid. The flavour was ok, but can be improved with more spices. The somtam mixed platter had tempura, sesame prawn on toast, spring rolls and satay chicken. The tempura was very oily and greasy, also it is not Japanese tempura it is very different. The sesame prawn on toast was quite tasty and well done, spring rolls were also tasty. The satay chicken was honestly pretty average nothing special. If you are looking for authentic Thai takeaway, this is not the place for you.

Not a food rating but service. Tried to order a delivery. Told 45 minutes. 1.45 later called and they claim they’ve been trying to call (no missed calls) to tell us they don’t deliver to our house. Claimed we were 7 miles away when we’re inside their delivery zone of under 4 miles. Very awkward conversation then took place in which they clearly didn’t want to deliver our food anymore and told us we’d need for it to be delivered in a taxi paid for by us.

1 1/2 hours for 2 dishes. when I complained the guy behind the counter offloaded all his worldly woes on me. when he finally finished I asked if that was an apology. he went in the back and shouted swear words. 2 people eating in had waited too long after starters and left without paying

Fantastic little place with amazing high quality food. Was very busy tonight with take away orders but they still managed to serve our food as we dined in in good time and wow what flavours. Will certainly be coming again when next in bridport.

The BEST Thai Takeaway 🙌 every trip to Bridport must include a Thai Takeaway from Somtum, no questions asked!

Unfortunately, we had to bin all except for the rice and rice crackers. The spring rolls tasted out of a box/frozen factory food offering and had a sour taste. The sauces in both main dishes very very greasy and we would have guessed it came out of a giant tin as it had the vinegary/sugary strong cheap flavour like a cheap cooking sauce. Simply inedible. Not like any Thai food we've ever had before.

Excellent and authentic Thai food. There is always too much to eat. It is predominantly a take away, but they have 4 or 5 tables to sit at if you want.

Small friendly Thai with good food.

Had to wait over an hour for our food to be ready, (takeaway) so immediately was uncertain, but once we got the food home, we really enjoyed it all, everything had very good flavour and spices. Would recommend... maybe chefs just had a slow day.

Very nice Thai food. Massaman curry was beautifully done. Very reasonably priced for the quality. We ate-in on one of the few tables and saw a steady procession of people getting takeaways. Currently cash only; quite a few banks a couple of minutes up the road.

I am a huge Thai food fan, been to an awful lot of Thai places, this is absolutely excellent. Good portions, sensible prices, fresh ingredients. Absolutely one of my favourites, could not recommended high enough.

Ordered at 2040, told it would be 20 minutes. Food comes out at 2125. Takes them about 3 attempts to work out the bill. Kept asking for more money. Shambolic

VEGETARIANS/VEGANS BEWARE!!! Chicken broth is used in the 'vegetarian' set menu. The Thai veg and tofu curry isn't vegetarian. I'm glad i asked and avoided this.

You must eat here if you like genuine Thai food. Only a couple of tables in what is largely a takeaway, however, you will not be disappointed if you choose to eat here. Friendly and efficient service and lovely fresh food. No alcohol, but don't let this stop you!

The best Thai food ever! Tastes nice and freshly cooked and not greasy at all, also the portion sizes were bigger than most other resturants. I will definitely be going back!

Somtum Thai offers spicy and for those with no taste buds a choice of very hot dishes, these will cause an instant flush. For take away simply phone and place your order. Enjoy but don't underestimate the ultra spicy dishes.

Great food, takeaway threshold is a little high at £30 though, small restaurant for dining in

OK. The restaurant area in a little basic (but scrupulously clean). This is make up for by the very high standard of the very fresh food. We settled on the set menus - short but fresh and delicious. Attentive service, and I must say how much we enjoyed our lunchtime visit. It has a small dining area with tables for about 12-14 ish heads. There was only 1 table left during our lunchtime so do book if you don't want to be disappointed.
