Just simply outstanding! 4th time dining here and it just simply amazes me everytime. You feel so relaxed, it reminds me of my childhood with families all going to grandma house. The service was absolutely outstanding, the woman couldn't do enough for you. Even went out her way to do my nephew a dairy free dessert plate, such attention to detail makes this place shine! The food is fresh and is good honest proper home cooking, my absolute go to! From me and my family I just want to say thank you so much for making my dad's birthday special!. Thankyou josh.

Very friendly and great fresh cooked food. Under recommendation, I had the aubergine imam. Go there and Try I. I will be there again tomorrow.

the food here is good but I think the starters are a bit over priced for the tiny portion you get that being said we did have a lovely meal the service was good .

We had a beautiful meal tonight at Sokrates. The food was amazing as was the service, the staff know so much about the food and take time to talk to you about the details of the menu and authentic ingredients. Thank you for a lovely experience, we will definitely come back again soon!

Unfortunately just had awful experience. Not only did they miss/forget wife's starter which ended up 20mins after mine, we were ignored at end of meal when would have happily ordered extra drinks etc, but had to wait 30mins to pay. Then when explained poor service was directed as our fault and no apologies for failures. Won't be going back.

First time at Socrates , didn’t disappoint . The food and service was excellent. Went for my birthday meal , lamb chops was cooked to perfection

We got the option to have meze banquet and for the price we eat till we were fit to bursting. Each dish was better than the last and the first few were great to begin with. A personal highlight was the lamb koftas and the pork skewers. The staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes giving advice about what sauces went with what dish and were extremely friendly.

Totally superb! A party of six of us had the Meze Banquet which filled the table! Two dietary preferences were catered for without fuss and every course came with an excellent full description. The food was delicious, the special desserts out of this world and the staff outstanding. We will be back!

We ate here on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was busy but the food was very good with good service. There was a good choice of dishes.

Just stumbled upon this place looking on google maps and had a decent review so we gave it a try and it was brilliant the dip plater as our starter to share and he chucked in a sun dried tomato bread then the mains were really tasty as well top marks from me!!!

It's difficult to find authentic Greek food when you're not in Greece... this was delicious! Worth the 90min round trip 👌 Food was delicious, service was exceptional, we asked for certain plates to be plain for the kids which they did. Was just brilliant. 🧿 Eftharisto!

Lovely welcoming Greek taverna style restaurant, warm friendly service, tasty food. Feta with homemade chilli honey was especially delicious. Would be 5 starts but we didn’t feel the price point reflected the food portions. Would definitely recommend.

Well you would drive past this place on its outside appearance but please don't! Dated n old fashioned inside but very clean. Great atmosphere, mixture of all ages from 20's to 60's, food delicious, deffy coming back again.

It was my first time at a Greek restaurant, and I can certainly say it won't be my last. We tried the mezzie, and every dish was lovely, everything cooked to perfection. Staff were really friendly, each explained and recommended which dips to try with the various dishes. Thanks to the cooks and the staff, we had a great evening. I can highly recommend this place.

Quiet but lovely food, quite pricey.

We had the meze as a party of 5 - 2 meat, 2 vegetarian and a gluten free meat. Every course was delightful. It was just like eating out in Greece but without the mosquitos or cicadas! What was especially great was the gluten free diner being able to eat every course with us. They were extremely accommodating and the celiac felt included. Service was excellent and there was so much food! Will be going back!

We had a delicious freshly cooked typical Greek mezze Everything was tasty and fresh and explained by the owner. They also looked after my granddaughters very well. Even the desserts were a bit different and home made The cheesecake with blueberries was out of this world and was the rice pudding in a cup. Well definitely be back The chef also came out and gave us a wave. Not over expensive either

Fabulous little Greek/Cypriot restaurant with authentic cuisine.

Delicious, authentic Greek/Cypriot food - we had read the glowing reviews and it certainly met our expectations. All delivered with warm and friendly service and interesting little descriptions of the origin of some of the dishes. Highly recommend the mezze banquet which offers a little sample of most of the dishes on the menu. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

What a gem of a place - we had read the great reviews and it certainly delivered! The food is authentic and delicious, fresh and tasty and all supported by interesting little narratives of the origin etc the atmosphere is relaxed and the service is warm. The mezze banquet is wonderful and offers a little taste of most dishes off the main menu. They were happy to make a few small adjustments to suit the kids too. We look forward to visiting again very soon.

Absolutely amazing Mezze. Staff were fantastic and the food was superb. As good as we’ve ever had, anywhere. The beef Stifado was so soft. Moussaka was probably the best I’ve had and I hate aubergine! The food was brought out at just the right pace. Honestly this place is banging

Our first visit to Sokrates on Saturday night, won't be the last Booked the table a few days prior to our visit Found out the day before that my ten year old granddaughter,who lives nearby had been the previous weekend with her dad and members of his family Little electric lips then proceeded to tell me about the excellent service,food and parking facilities etc🤣🤣 Who am I to argue? Decided to have the mezze in order to sample the various dishes One word EXCELLENT! All the food was delicious and filling Friendly service from ALL staff from the moment we walked through the door,including the owner?/manager who whilst serving us also gave me a brief history of the business and the other two restaurants in the group Five stars here,well deserved We'll definitely be back Well recommended!!

Lovely food and great service, was a little cold inside so myself and a few others around didn't take off their jackets inside but this does not distract from the quality of the food or the amazing level of service from all the staff.

Everything was amazing, the service was really good and without rush with the food, we have been in another Greek restaurant and they bring all the food at the same time, we aet really good with amazing service and 100% recommend.

Absolutely delicious and authentic Greek food. We absolutely love Greek cuisine and this the best Greek restaurant we have been to that's not in Greece. I would definitely recommend the Greek mezze. Plenty of food- you will definitely be full after finishing! The aubergine imam was our favourite, but all of the food was lovely. Very reasonably priced as well! The staff are all very attentive and very friendly- cannot fault the service. We have eaten at this restaurant a few times and the staff have always been fab. My husband has a severe nut allergy and they have always been reassuring and have accommodated with no issues. Thank you for a great birthday meal.

Really enjoyed the Meze, with each dish explained, if required. Attentive services. My only gripe was, on a chilly night, it was a bit cold in the restaurant.

Partner & I ordered the Greek Meze Banquet quoted on their website "Meze is food for sharing" wow alot of food from dips, cheese, meats, fish & stews. Could not pick my favourite it was all delicious & the service was excellent, waiter was very knowledgeable & recommended which food complimented each other. The decor you could really feel you are in authentic Greek restaurant. Next time we will try a main dish 😋

I can't praise this Greek taverna enough the food is amazing with great friendly staff, for gf diet it is super.

Service and hygiene is not acceptable here, so it doesn’t matter about anything else. The main issue, apart from the manager who loves the sound of his own voice and doesn’t let anyone else speak was that they accidentally sent out an extra 2 lamb koftas which are small anyway. The manager then came over and took them back off our plate and obviously would have served them to someone else. We may have breathed or coughed on the food, but we can’t remember if we did, so we cannot believe that they would do this. It’s unacceptable to serve food that has been on someone else’s plate so I will never be going back. One of the waitresses, with black hair, was absolutely lovely. The poor service was not related to her in any way.

I've been visiting Sokrates for 15 years now and it's always friendly and fantastic with delicious food. This was my first visit since going gluten free and I was a bit nervous, because not everywhere shows the love for a GF veggie but Oh. My. Word. A full gluten free, veggie meze banquet and it was amazing! The chef even made a beautiful little feta and spinach omelette as a spanakopita alternative. I usually miss eating meat and gluten but not here - I wasn't even jealous of my husband's souvlaki. There was no shrinkflation in sight either - we opted out of the last couple of dishes and still brought leftovers home. You really can't go wrong with a visit to Sokrates, I'm looking forward to the next 15 years' visits. I'd add photos of the food but none of it stayed on our plates long enough to be photographed!

Every time we go, the food is always consistently top quality and the service is excellent. We tend to choose the meze but end up too full to test out the Greek yogurt cheesecake, so next time, we will make room.

Best restaurant in the area! Great quality, fresh ingredients, and the house white wine was lovely. They also serve traditional Greek beers. I had lamb koftas and mixed meat souvlaki, everything was delicious and not dry at all. Perfectly cooked. The restaurant is decorated in a traditional taverna style, so has a cosy charm. Every table was full, so there was a good atmosphere.

Had a wonderful family celebration meal, totally gorgeous food, warm, super efficient service, cosy atmosphere. The staff really went out of their way to make sure all went well. Couldn’t praise Sokrates highly enough. We’ve been here over years and it’s always been just lovely in every way. Thanks.

This was my first time at Sokrates tonight and I wasn't disappointed. Every mouthful was a taste sensation and I didn't want it to end, especially the aubergine. The waiter even persuaded me to try calamari for the first time and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere, decor and music was great, the staff were really nice and explained all the dishes that they brought out. I particularly liked the stories behind some of the dishes told by the waiter. It was amazing value and I highly recommend this restaurant and I'll definitely be going back. 5*

amazing food it should be classified 5 stars, the staff are so friendly it has a calming atmosphere and you need to try the Greek yogurt cheesecake and the skewers all I want to say is that it is the best food me and my family have tried so far this year and I disagree on the 4.7 stars I think it should be 5 stars 100% I love it and will be coming back soon

First time here and we could not fault a thing … Food was delicious and lovely staff. My partner and I had the Meze, the gentleman explained every dish and made recommendations, also brought an extra bowl of Imam which was delicious !! Also, the lady front of house was really friendly and great sense of humour … new fave restaurant 😁

What a delight, tucked away in Horwich. A homely taverna with on-street and off-road parking nearby. Delicious freshly made starters of dolmathes (best ever tasted) and a portion of houmous were followed by stifado and a combination of chicken skewers and aubergines imam style. The experience was further enhanced by a very friendly, professional waiting staff member who seemed genuinely interested in the items she was serving. Drinks were good (non-alcoholic beer for me), with great, ‘gritty’ Greek coffee to finish.

Friends birthday dinner. Six happy diners. Everyone commented on how good their meals were. I had falafel to start followed by lamb chops and then a Greek yogurt cheese cake, all delicious. The lamb was exceptional. Staff were helpful and service good. I will return and recommend.

Fabulous graduation celebration meal for 9 people. Catered beautifully for 2 vegans, 1 vegetarian, 6 regular mezze diners and a nut allergy. The food was hot, fresh and plentiful and well explained and the service was faultless. As one of the vegans I can vouch for the beautiful vegan subs that were made to complement the dishes served alongside the regular mezze ones....Will definitely be back!

We took my sister and husband to Sokrates to share a Meze. From start to finish everything was excellent! Service, food, ambience all outstanding. Our guests had been to a couple of Green restaurants in Cheshire recently and rated Sokrates the best of the bunch.

We had the meze, some dishes were really tasty however it took a long time for the food to arrive and some of it was under cooked. We were given complimentary water following the under cooked pork.

What an amazing experience we had at Sokrates. We rang up last minute on a Friday night and asked if they could fit us in and also cater for a vegan diet, which they could. The hospitality and service from start to finish was amazing and the knowledge around which menu items I could have or could be adapted was really appreciated. We asked to order the Greek salad with feta on the side (my friend isn't vegan) and to my surprise they had vegan feta! We had a vegan banquet (not everything shown on the photo) and everything tasted incredible. Our favourite dishes were the aubergines imam, Greek salad, garlic pitta wedges and houmous. All clearly home made and so fresh! Given more notice, they are able to order and prepare food especially for vegan and gluten free diets but what we had was still amazing! I can't wait to go back. Thank you Sokrates :)

We’re regulars here and it’s honestly are favourite place to go for our meal out. Some of the best food I’ve had, great staff and I would be surprised to find a better Greek restaurant in the UK I think!
