So Bar & Restaurant in Newham

The Indian food is wonderful, and for a pittance compared to the same food in the United States! The drinks are strong, the service friendly and a pleasure to talk to. I love their Halloween decorations! I will be returning here before I fly home to the USA, and hope that they are still here when I come back in 2027.

Great venue with helpful and friendly staff. Great waterfront view. Great sound system and a lovely atmosphere. Delicious food. Highly recommend!

I have been every time to that bar I have the best from every single person but Avani , sorry to ashan and is father this lady is very good all the time I come she smile and knows my drink and my friend also this please is a vibe u love to be if u local very friendly

I found this place by accident while having spare time before going to the F1 Exhibition at the ExCeL. I great find for my Son and me. We had absolutely lovely food, served very quickly. Very reasonably priced The beer was also great price for London. Sat outside in the sun by the water. The owner and staff were brilliant I would highly recommend it. Denis

After visiting the London ExCel we dropped into this lovely little bar. Great food, good prices, nice staff. Nice outside seating for a drink on a hot day. Would defo go back 👍

Absolutely a hidden gem, wonderful host, and friendly atmosphere. Couldn't ask for anymore when having a nice cold drink by the water.

Owner have been rude to my and my friends asking us why don’t we buy more food and drinks. He was drunk as well and behaved very bad with us. Bad customer service from the owner.

Great place but weird with the music and the decor, feels like should be in benidorm in Spain lol The food was really nice and surprised us with how the place looks. Only thing that really let it down was the smoking inside the place, hate that full stop 🛑 It's on the river front which is a nice view as well whilst eating The guy behind the bar was brilliant and good at service as well.

As a herd, we crash this bar after a long day at Excel and they’re able to keep up even with call outs. Hard workers and nice people. The owner likes to play chess against patrons, there’s outdoor seating, food - the vibe is immaculate.

A very pleasant surprise. We were struggling to find somewhere that had room for all 9 of us and found this place. The food was good, the service was good given that there was limited serving staff and the atmosphere was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal

Rang up to see if they were open for food and drink but were closed on Monday but opened up for us and cooked us amazing food,Tariq was amazing and welcoming... Definitely be back... Ps low atmosphere rating because it was just us...

Booked So Bar for my birthday celebrations. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Great communication as well. Fantastic food and excellent cocktails. We sang the night away on the karaoke. Will definitely be visiting again.

Very odd place with very odd people

I booked the SO Bar for my mothers 50th birthday party and I have to say I had a amazing time and the staff put on a wonderful spread with many options of food which everyone enjoyed would highly recommend anyone having a party to book the SO Bar

Little gem across footbridge by ExCel. Went for dinner here and there were 14 of us, we had 3 courses for £35 each in the set menu and lovely wine. Anne was great in emails helping organise and the food was tasty and generous. Ian looked after us in the night and we loved the quirky ambience of the place. So nice to escape the corporate feel of all the ExCel venues. Will be back for future events. Thank you SO Bar👍💕

We came here for a quick drink after the event at the ExCel. Right on the water in a quite area, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for that. A hidden gem really. It’s very close to the venue with a cool walk over the bridge and water. Worth a visit if you’re in the area

Strange little place... Got a beer after work with friends, but no-one else in there at all. For such a good location seems odd. The decor is a weird mix and dated and no atmosphere. Wouldn't want to sit inside, but the benches outside are OK with a nice view. Drinks are reasonably priced, but seems like a small selection on tap. It does what it says on the tin... sells drinks... but not sure I'd want to spend much time there.

Nice place to enjoy the sunset by the river. Highly recommended for chilling 😄 Two pints at £13, honest price for this area. It can be a bit windy sitting outside, luckily there are seats inside with great views of the surroundings too.

This place has been my second home for a number of years now, not sure how somebody had complained about noise because the owners are very considerate, removed the external speakers out of respect for the loc residents. Unfortunately for the owners they cant control the people that live in the area but they have always had a zero tolerance on antisocial behaviour and zero tolerance on drugs. I bring my Children to this restaurant, my mother and all of my close friends its a favourite for all of us and i am very shocked to see a bad review on loitering, noise and drugs. The owners little pick, sweep and jetwash the surrounding areas because the local council are neglecting the area with 3 shops and a secondary school. These things cant be helped unfortunately but i assure you the owners are doing the most to make the area a better place for everyone

Just had the displeasure of walking past this bar. Loud music being played from a speaker on a table. The smell of "weed" emanating from the undesirable characters seated outside. Not to mention the shouting from the "customers". Feel for the poor souls who have to live above such disgraceful behaviour. Was looking for somewhere quiet on a nice evening for a drink. Other 5 star reviews made me look up this place. Never again! Didn't even bother going in as the place looked dirty and rubbish everywhere.

I visited this Bar last night, for my cousins birthday celebrations and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The staff were amazing! All attentive and friendly, aiming to meet each and everyone of their customers needs. Which, I must add, was totally achieved! Drinks prices were all very affordable and the atmosphere was a whole vibe. I would defo recommend you giving this bar a try, as you will not be disappointed.”

I was part of a very large group of people using the bar for a karaoke event during MCM Comic Con. The staff of the bar were extremely friendly and patient with us all and helped the organizers of the event work and adjust the karaoke equipment. The food and drinks were fantastic and the staff of So Bar helped us to have an absolutely fantastic night. Thank you so much!

Very good service, polite staff, for lovers of football it has a large screen on wall, they also serve food. Beautiful in the summer sitting by the basin.

Nice place, people friendly but the prices are not as stated on their website? 17.00 for 2 drinks and when questioned the barmaid said yeah we automatically do doubles! It would be nice to have been informed beforehand. No apology just a cold stare, won't be going there again.

Friendly staff! Super nice environment lovely people good range of drinks and comfy seating. Haven’t tried the food yet but smells DIVINE. Drinks are also reasonably priced too which is rare in london.

So...please go and check .... So I will start by saying that you do not find anywhere Burger with a stake in it , so that was interesting . I gave it a try and I can say that was very unexpected , the stake was melting in your mouth was very tender and flavourful . I would give 10 stars but unfortunately I can't , I was really impressed with this burger . I highly recommend it , So ...please go and check because the location is not something that you see every day , it's like a corner from haven , you really will not think that you can find a gem in a area like that . I really recommend you to visit this . The staff are very friendly , helpful and welcoming , they have plenty of choices for food and drink . You can even play chess if you like that . SO..... It definitely worth a visit and you will love it

Extremely rude bartender. Me and my pregnant friend wanted to use the loo so I ordered one beer. He said two people can’t use the facilities if only one drink is getting ordered? What a joke.

Worst experience I have had in a bar! The owner was COMPLETELY wasted and made horrible ignorant and offensive comments. When we asked him if he was drunk he said 'does it matter'. The place was very empty and I am pretty sure I saw escorts working that night (should have taken that as a sign - so maybe my fault). Just before we went to order our second drink the drunk owner approached us and shouted at us saying we were taking too long to order and that we need to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. We both looked at eachother in shock trying to process the situation, and he continued to shout to LEAVE NOW - even the escorts looked on in horror! Even if there had been a large queue outside with people waiting to be seated and it wasn't empty - that is still no way to speak to paying customers. I am appaled and shocked, I guess there is a first time for everything. Go at your own risk!!!

Nice place to go for everything from a full meal or just a cup of coffee The staff are friendly and helpful and happy to give menu suggestions Prices are good for the area especially when you take into account the waterside location and proximity to The Excel Centre (it's just over the very conveniently place bridge) Well worth looking in if you are in the area.

Popped in for a quick pint during guy Fawkes night with the misses it's a dead club/wine bar with only 2 drinks on tap carslberg export and san Miguel the other options are from the fridge it's a small place place with outside benches and rain/sun covers. Think with the wright owner it could be a lot better as in the wright music options like a DJ or event nights with good advertising. Price wise I paid £4 quid a pint of carslberg export. Its located next to royal docks waterside not a bad place in the summer maybe

It has lovely Scenic views of the docks entertainment watching the wakeboarders fall off the staff are friendly the best part is in the summer it has a sandpit which we call Royal Docks beach you can easily sit and have a drink then lose yourself in the surroundings there's always something different to catch her eye I've not had the food so I can't comment on it

Well this is where Mr T hangs out, not the one off of the a team, but another one you've never heard of. Accidently called in here for a drink on the way to somewhere else. Not sure if it was even open, but Mr T poured me a drink. There were a couple of dodgy characters in there but the seemed to add to the atmosphere. Mr T thought he was really good at chess of all things and demanded we played a game. Fortunately my mate had played chess before and duly went and thrashed Mr T. Poor old Mr T didn't look too happy, but perhaps if he spent more time working instead of drinking and playing games he might get 4 or more stars. Still it turned out to be a bit of a talking point for the next few minutes of our adventure.

We had a great meal here tonight so can only give it a massive thumbs up - good prices for London!

This place is terrible! Walked in and the Indian server woman told us that we can either wait or leave. I'm sorry but I'm Canadian and we don't speak like that to paying customers and nor would we ever. She was the only one working and apologized which was fine. The Indian food is terrible... don't even bother. Avoid! The owner seems nice so I feel bad writing this but seriously this place sucks!

I'm giving this four stars as I have no recollection of drinking here as it was the last stop on an all day drinking marathon. But they served me and it wasn't their fault that I left all my things in the uber on the way home.

Quite OK. Nothing extraordinary. Food was far from being great but it wasn't terrible and they served Guinness which is always good.

It's a nice place if you want to go and have a relaxing drink the staff are not rude it's just that it takes a while for them to warm up to new customers there just a bit quiet, but above all the views is the best part and the food is nice and drinks are reasonably priced

The food was delicious and very well priced for London. Had the lamb shank and it was amazing, just fell off the bone.

Avoid it! Came in for a few drinks and the bar lady has just disappeared for around half an hour. Had to wait for her to come back just to get another drink, though the patience has ran out, so left and went to another place where we were served and not ignored. The service was absolutely horrendous and rude .

Terrible food! Tasteless poor quality 'food' fresh out of the microwave. Do not waste your time coming here. I couldn't even eat it, had to pay and find another place to eat. 1 out of 10 and that's only because the 'food' turned up.

Nails on the table, stains on the chairs and noisy when the locals are drunk. Staff didnt speak english properly, couldnt understand his accent and was not responding politely to customers.
