SMOQUE ® Warlingham in Tandridge

We visited a few weeks after they first opened. Food was fantastic but service was shocking. We decided to try again as they are now an established restaurant with good reviews. The staff were initially welcoming, however, not observant. We ordered a bottle of wine for 3 people, but were only given 2 glasses. Likewise, we asked for a jug of water and was only given a jug and one glass. This was eventually rectified and we ordered our food. Starters were ok, the filo cheese pastry parcels were nice as was the calamari (although small portions). My husband’s 4 nachos with beef were very dry and not as flavoursome as described. Our starters were cleared and only my husband’s cutlery was replaced. The mains were very disappointing… lobster Mac & cheese very overrated. 3 pieces of lobster at the most, lots of Mac and cheese in fairness, just no flavour. I had the Wagyu burger which was worse than a cheap nightclub burger van burger! My daughter’s chicken kebab was tasty, but only 5 small pieces of chicken, no check back during the meal at all. We asked for the bill and were not asked how the meal was, or offered desserts/coffee. Received the bill with service charge included. Unfortunately, we asked for the service charge to be removed as we didn’t feel that the service received deserved any recognition or payment. We were really hoping for more but left deflated and disappointed.

1st time been to this place as it was a bar years ago food was very nice I had the wagyu burger first time for wagyu and had a lush time munching it yummmmmm and also had the lobster pasta so creamy and had lots of lobster chunks only shame is small parking area

Took family for a special birthday treat as we have driven past countless times and thought how lovely it looks inside. However on enterting we were taken out the back, not in to the lovely looking part you see from the road. We were seated right at the back of what can only be described as feeling like a garage. No atmosphere, zero ambience, service was absolutely awful, mains brought out before our starters cleared, things forgotten on multiple occasions, constantly asking staff to sort mistakes, almost impossible to get staff's attention. Food was ok - would have felt ok paying those sorts of prices if overall the experience had been pleasant. Wish I hadn't paid service charge but stupidly didnt want to make a fuss as I was treating others to the meal. Really disappointed. Won't return.

MIHAI is the best. Customer service at Smoque can not be beaten. dedicate Food presentation and amazing delicious flavors. There are great options on the menu with vegetarian and vegan options. Highly recommend.

Visited Smoque last month, as always the staff were attentive, amenable to our requests, knowledgable about the menu and made the dining experience throughly enjoyable along with the amazing food. Special shout out to Mihai for amazing management and customer service. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Went to smoque with my mum and my nephew. Did not disappoint! Third time I’ve been here in 2 weeks. Food was spot on and service was great. Note to the staff - you all do a wonderful job and I hope your employer is aware of the value you add. Best place to eat in Warlingham in my opinion

Very generous portions of tasty and well-cooked food. Lunch time menu offers a good range of dishes and exceptional value. Service was relaxed and friendly. For a restaurant which we chose very much on a whim, we were surprised and delighted. We will most definitely be back, and will be recommending it to our friends. I just hope it keeps up its high standard.

Enjoyed my time there food for me was tasty thought the drinks were a bit pricey and payed a bit more than I would have like for what I eat all in all a good experience for me

I don't write usually review, yet I didn't feel there was right to me. The expectation was very different. The staff person was pushing us for ordering and like giving an impression of Harry Harry. I asked for fish, I asked them it is grilled, and they told me yes, but it was not. The quality of food was very average. Some staff were kind. Unfortunately, I wouldn't go back there any more.

Edit: having recieved the review of our experience the owner has reached out and apologised for our experience. He has asured me that table tops are being replaced and staff will recieving support and training to improve service. He has also offered us to return for a meal to rectify our experience. ... All our food was bad I had the burger and the meat was dry and very chewy I didn't eat it then just ate the bun and salade the tomatoe in it was slimy and on the turn. The service staff said all of two works to us never checking in on drinks or if we needed any we kept on having to ask for help. The place wasn't busy and all men staff. It was bad in every way the music was very loud so hard to hear a dinner conversation for a Sunday lunch. The table was broken round the rim and my dad kept catching his arm on the metal that coursed him to bleed for the nearly ££200 we spent there I feel rather robbed to be honest.

Popped in for lunch today with the wife. Great place, very nicely decorated. The staff can't do enough for you and most importantly, the food is fantastic. Huge garden area too which would be great in the summer.Would highly recommend!

Food, service and atmosphere are all equally great. Great for family, friends, couple dinning out for special occasions or on any day. Toilet area is super clean. The place smell nice from the entrance likely because of the scented candles. 100%+ recommended.

Our experience at SMOQUE was a bit of a mixed bag. We booked a table based on the positive reviews and attractive photos, but were disappointed to be seated in the back conservatory room. While the food and drinks were excellent, the ambiance was quite different from what we expected. The conservatory room felt more like a food hall than a classy restaurant. It was noisy and quite crowded, with large groups of people and families with children. This was definitely not the atmosphere we were looking for on a date night. The servers were friendly and helpful, but the service was slow, likely due to the large number of tables. We frequently had to flag down staff members to place our orders. That said, the food and drinks were absolutely fantastic. If you're looking for delicious Mediterranean food, SMOQUE is a great option. I would recommend SMOQUE, but I'd ensure you have a table in the main restaurant for a more enjoyable experience. I think the ambiance and service are likely to be much better there.

Last Friday was my first visit to Smoque, and I must say, it absolutely lives up to the hype. From the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff who were attentive throughout the entire experience. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. Speaking of the food, it was nothing short of exceptional! I’m already looking forward to returning soon, this time with family and friends to share the experience!

Really nice, fresh food, tasted like it had just been cooked, second time we had been so it was nice to go back and see cor ers had definately not been cut was happy to wait for food, delicious lamb chops, chicken and kofte, ans turkish rice was amazing Only downside which is a personal preference not sure why so much staff hanging around the bar kind of unnecessary and some of them were very unhappy looking bar one or two (the shorter blond lady is veey welcoming), very ubrupt including the one who served us although he was a bit more accommodating towards the end, we took our time to make a decision and felt a bit rushed, wldnt put me off coming back however just have your staff being a bit more friendly,

The wagu beef nachos were amazing. Food was great and the staff attentive. The lunch time deal is really well priced and portion sizes great as well.

I went here with my 85 year old mum. On entry at 9:45 we were told the kitchen was closed. I pointed out that their website indicated they were open till 11pm. They then said they would serve us. We sat down and someone took our order. Then a few minutes later at 9:58pm the person who confirmed they would serve us told us that the chef was now saying they closed at 10pm. When we said this was terrible customer service, he said he ‘only worked there’. We left. A truly shocking way to treat customers.

We had our work lunch here as a group of 5. The service was fantastic and the food delicious. Large portions and an absolutely fabulous lunch menu. I didn't manage to get photos of the food we had but I did get photos of our puddings.

I’m in Smoque restaurant in warlingham so many times a month. The faces are friendly and today I asked names as they are all working so hard on a busy Friday night. Usually I’m out eating but today I thought I’d just have a glass of wine and watching how hard they work! Ozzie. Goren. James. Canna. Ashen. Are the regulars I see, but all staff haven’t stopped. Working in hospitality myself I’m exhausted watching them. 😀 Well done the lot of you!

I love Turkish food and was surprised to see a "Turkish Grill" in a small place like Warlinham and was sceptical about it's authenticity. However when I saw the Turkish drink Raki on their drinks menu, I knew they were authentic . I had a bottle of Effes beer eventually to drink. To eat I ordered Tava Kuvarma for starters and Lamb Guveç for mains. Booth were delicious. The Lamb Guveç was good sized portion that I could have skipped the starter. The ambience and service was also good. I asked one of the waiters if he was Turkish and he was , which helped me practice the little bit of Turkish I know.

We arrived at 7pm We got our starter and drinks at 7:30pm Our mains came out at 9pm… very disappointing service being ignored and watching other tables who came later than us get their food It was good food, but not worth an hour and a half wait… won’t be back sadly… oh and we still got a fat £30 service charge added to our bill… Food was great though…

Great food, everything was tasty and hot and portions were on the generous side. One star lost for service and atmosphere only because the waiter looked stressed and miserable throughout service. The occasional smile would have been nicer...

DO NOT go here. They don’t care about customer service. I went for a friends birthday and since they under-staffed our party (they had numbers beforehand) they were about 2 hours late taking orders. So I pre-payed at the till to save them time. Turned out they didn’t write down my order so I waited 3 hours for my food to be told the kitchen was closed, chef has gone home. They then told me they couldn’t refund me because I used Apple Pay. Long story short I spent over 2 weeks calling every day trying to get my refund. I was passed over to about 3 managers and was even given the owners mobile no. He ended up blocking me!!! I finally found a wonderful manager at the Bromley branch who helped me out. Really poor experience. Disappointing.

Firat was very helpful with my booking for my anniversary meal for my friends and family. We was allowed to come in and decorate the upstairs for the celebration’s, we also was allowed to play our own music even though the restaurant music was playing on the speakers but we wanted something a little more suitable for our occasion and they was very helpful and happy to accommodate our needs . Nothing was too much trouble and Janan our lovely server made sure all the time we were happy with things ,like when we wanted starters and when we wanted platters brought out . And oh my goodness we were not disappointed with the amount of food or the selection of food . All my guests left happy ,full and even took food away with them there was so much ! Janan was very professional and made sure everyone and everything was ok and took the stress off me ,she is an asset to smoque . We had a fantastic time celebrating our anniversary at smoque warlingham and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Delicious food - definitely come back again!

Some really great service from Smoque, very attentive and even though it was our first time there they made us feel like we were regulars. Food was really great, very large portions so be ready if you order a starter and a main. They accidentally dropped one of our parties mains and to apologise for the delay took it off the bill which was nice of them. Overall good experience just that on the day there was someone celebrating a birthday so there was some quite loud music

Smoque is taking a unique take on the established turkish restaurant experience and there's a alot to be said, allow me to put my thoughts in order that I experienced them; TLDR: Food is fab, restaurant is trying to push Michelin star service in a high volume environment without superior management or understanding of what and how a Michelin star restaurant front of house is executed and is failing miserably at it. I could write of ages on this but the fault here is the poor front of house manager that was far too busy hanging around at the back end of the restaurant. The manager needs to understand his client and the business need and not be sitting in the back of the building on his laurels, this restaurant will soon fizzle if these poor experiences continue. More detail below; 1. From when i walked from the car park into the building the security chap was warm, welcoming and inviting into the premises 5/5 2. As we walked in we gave our reservation backed up by text message and website url which although with the name of the booking being misunderstood was very quickly resolved and no issue at all - 5/5 3. We had 2 groups on the table arriving 10mins apart, the first groups drinks order was not delivered correctly, minor issue but resolved this was only 3 drinks - 3/5 4. Second groups drink order, 2 drinks was a fail, the staff communication was completely disjointed, we had to re-order 3x to get 2 drinks delivered, even though underscoring with the trained waitress what we wanted. 1/5 5. When we ordered the food the waitress was quick and professional and controlled portions to minimised wastage. 5/5 6. Food came out without issue, 5/5 7. more issues with drinks orders, serving staff were not allowed to take orders then chose to take orders but didnt execute on the order leading us to chase down our waiter to order the drinks 1/5 8. paid bill, no issues 5/5 Further thoughts: 1. Train your servers to take the order or instil without question they would get the trained waiter over to the customer asap. 2. Perfect the front of house system, get the manager back into the grass roots to understand where his training is lacking and he can improve, standing out the back of the restaurant admiring himself is simply not an option, nor is taking a iron fist to the establishment 3. This is an awesome restaurant, please, please sort the service.

Absolutely amazing lunch, Little Ozy our waiter was great, explaining the menu & all the different ingredients he was so kind & couldn’t do enough for us & with a lot of humour which you do not often get these days. Booked a table for tonight 13th July for 4 of us for dinner, can’t wait well done Smoque.

Be very careful with staff. Been told to forget the menu cause they'll bring us 2 share plates. In the end we get on the bill 6×set special. Absolutely disappointed. Anyway food is crazy good, shame on staff.

Scruffy inside, very familiar waitress, security guy on the door. Had two starters and a donner “speciality of the house”. The two starters were ok ish, the donner was tasteless, fries ok, the Malbec wine ok but no Turkish wine available to try. The donner was at best warm. Expensive and then add service charge on top. Recommend NOT to go, waste of money for a bad experience.

We celebrated my wife’s birthday at SMOQUE, and it was fantastic! The food was amazing, with the chicken shish, lamb kebab, and lamb shank dishes standing out. Prices were average, but the experience was priceless. The staff were attentive and friendly, and they made my wife's birthday extra special by singing the craziest, most entertaining version of "Happy Birthday" ever! Highly recommend this place!

Superb food and great food. I went with a party of 8, and the service was spot on despite how busy it was. We were shocked at how cheap the bill was after leaving with our stomachs stuffed.

Last time we sat in the restaurant as you go in on the left and it was a very pleasant experience. This time we were sat in the part of the restaurant out the back. As we walked in it was like walking into a rave with booming music. The service was extremely poor, 2 out of 6 drinks came in 15 minutes but the other 4 took about 30 minutes to arrive, even through we where watching everyone else around us receive their drinks after ordering after us. Starters came but forgot the gluten free bread. When the mains arrived only 2 out of 4 came gluten free… (our waitress apologised and stated that the chefs ignored the gluten free order) one of the waiters then tried to persuade me to have it anyway even though I’m intolerant… the gluten free meal eventually came after declining the none gluten free meal, when it eventually came out the chicken was cooked beautifully. The Service in general was awful, it took an hour to get one glass of white wine, when the bill came out they had charged us for 2, probably because we had to ask multiple times for the glass of wine. The manager offered us a round of drinks but then very quickly walked away and we never got this offer again. The bill eventually came out with extra charges, which we quickly had removed and makes them take the service charge off. In terms of the atmosphere… 2 of us had to leave early as the music was so loud it had given them headaches. Overall we won’t be going back, if you want good Turkish food with excellent service and a nice atmosphere where you can talk to each other then I recommend Med Kitchen in Sanderstead.

Came tonight with the family for my brother’s birthday. The food was amazing, great portions and quick service. The staff were the best part about the evening, absolutely brilliant service. Very attentive with welcoming and lovely demeanours, they played and sung happy birthday when bringing the cake for my brother, and overall provided a great atmosphere, especially Canan and Ozze who made our night and ensured we were well catered for. A fantastic evening and will definitely be coming again, thank you so much!

My goodness, my lunch menue was good value but so big. I could have stopped after the absolutely delicious and large starter but kept on going. Doggie bags are available.

The food and customer service here are top-tier. I first visited with friends on a busy Saturday night; the food and customer service were excellent. I returned on a Monday for a birthday lunch with my mother, and once again, both the food and service were outstanding. Having visited at different times of the day, I can confidently say the quality is consistently high. I highly recommend this place. Thank you for making my mother's lunch so special.

We had an incredible meal yesterday, to celebrate our son’s birthday. Can’t fault it. Food, choice, portion size, service, atmosphere - all brilliant. In the words of The Terminator - I’ll be back 🤩. If you love Turkish food, delicious salads, mezze and beautifully presented, delicious cocktails, you’re going to love it here.

A warm welcome awaited at this Turkish restaurant which was once my old local pub in Warlingham. Car park nxt to it. Big airy garden room and outdoor seating area. We were in the main original building. Tasteful decor. The pluses good food!- we ordered the starter selection I think it was 6 dishes for £30… we went for the vegan: veggie dishes all delicious inc dips and breads. That would have done us all actually. We had cocktails around £10-12 and a bottle of Turkish white between us. For mains my friend had terrine with chicken I had vegan…. A hot pot full of surprise veggies in a sauce served with couscous and salad. My other friend chose fried chicken with salad and couscous - can’t remember the official names but both around £15 per dish. The minus is as the service very slow to take our orders - drinks: starters : mains… jug water etc. maybe new staff working too. Quite opposite to trying to clear things away from table though - a little off putting - being asked if we aren’t having any more drinks when I asked for a hug of water and that they could bring over the drinks menu!( we already had one)… and trying to remove both my wine and cocktail glass before I’d finished! Also had to ask for the music down ( speaker above our heads unfortunately) still loud have a sore throat this morning from having to talk loudly ! So if these points could be noted would be absolutely fine. My friend who made the booking did say it was our friends 60th birthday and they had promised to offer something ?- but nothing arrived - if they wrote on system at time of booking and could see we had brought gifts with us it should be automatic no requirement for prompting. Let’s see next time we visit .

Chosen by my friend for a long overdue meet-up. We were inside the main restaurant. Very busy but waiting staff were very attentive and super efficient. Food is excellent, and so much of it had to take home a doggy bag. Only draw back is the local area parking, but that can't be helped. It's definitely a place to come back, too again. Very reasonably priced too.

The food was fantastic. Delicious and huge portions! Not your standard menu either with so many wonderful options to choose from. The staff were lovely and took care of us - I couldn’t give it a 5 here though as one member was so difficult to understand and didn’t deliver or do anything we asked. Perhaps new and in training ? We sat upstairs and I wish we had asked for downstairs. Bit like being in an attic But the overall decor was lovely. The only thing I didn’t like was the constant (5 times on a Tuesday evening) VERY LOUD happy birthday music. I’m sorry but I just can’t stand it and it ruined it for me. I tend to avoid these restaurants unless I’m out with kids who might enjoy the sing along. But for a couples night or girls night it’s a no.

Absolutely fantastic. Probably one of the nicest Turkish places I've been to. The staff (particularly Ali and Jan) couldn't do enough for us. Smoque is definitely the place to be brillant food and a good drink list.. service could of been a little better at first but it’s was very busy but got taken care of straight away after that and food was brought through quickly and drinks 9/10 got a visit will Be back

This is a really good restaurant. The food was plenty, fresh and wholesome. The staff were pleasant. For the same price, you get half as much in many other places. I can definitely recommend this.

Attentive staff, great food and quite frankly ridiculous portions. I’m not one to struggle but polishing off my meal was very difficult. (This is a good thing). I’d say the atmosphere was like a tradition Turkish, even sang happy birthday which is lovely. However, it was incredibly loud in general. Definitely recommend going here, just limit yourself with what you order, because the food portions are insane.

Went for a birthday meal with about 40 people we had the upstairs room. Staff and service were excellent food delicious. Staff friendly and couldn’t do more for us and we kept them very busy !

My daughter and son in law took us two mum's here for a meal. First time and we apsalutly loved the food, the service and the atmosphere was amazing. And they actually do a vegan choice too.

When we first arrived and was told we would be sitting up stairs and we were a little deflated to say the least , “BUT” the atmosphere was just as vibrant and the table service was just as attentive as down in the main restaurant . The food was amazing ,possibly the best I’ve had in a long time , the baby squid starter was fresh and cooked to perfection as was the ample portion of mixed grill I had for mains . I must recommend that you visit Smoque because I guarantee you will not be disappointed .
