Smokin’ Jack’s in Isle of Wight

The effort they go to is excellent they really made an effort with making a gluten free burger bun seem less boring making an awkward issues into no issue. if you are looking for drinks with your meal this has to be the cheapest independent pub I have been to in a long time, They have a bar only side to the establishment so you can also attend just fir drinks. in short TRY SMOKIN JACKS you won't be disappointed 😀

We shared our 11th anniversary here, what an absolute delight! The food was out of this world, the staff were incredible (the deputy sheriff). Thank you for all the effort, can't wait to come back and try all the top shelf.

It was okay, a special meal deal was a good price, but overall, it was very expensive. 4 onion rings £5.

Had a lovely meal there last night. Also they accidentally put way too much chilli in my kids' mac and cheeses, they gave them complimentary drinks, replaced the food as quickly as they could and knocked off a few items from the bill as compensation. Staff were all friendly and understanding and food was good. Highly recommend the place for dinner and a drink.

We had a lovely time here - so nice that we went twice! The food is tasty and nice to look at, as well as big portions. You'll need to go there hungry and ready to eat a big meal. The team that work there are really kind and friendly. They gave us some lovely extra touches when they heard it was our anniversary. Very unexpected, but we're so grateful that they did! Yes, the food does take a bit of time to come. However, there is a sign that clearly states that there is only one chef, and the team gave us updates so we knew we weren't being left. We didn't mind as we sat and enjoyed our drinks. We'll definitely be going again when we're next on the island!

We absolutely loved this place. The staff were rediculously helpful and friendly, the American atmosphere inside was brilliant (although my other half wasn't happy there was no Dallas Cowboy badge on the wall 😂) the steaks were amazing and it was just an overall great experience. We are just starting our holiday so im sure we will be back.

After 5 years driving past the Star/ Smokin' Jack's, we thought it was high time we went and tried it out. Very pleasant and welcoming staff from the moment we arrived. Great service and amazing food. One signature burger, A very large half rack of ribs, Baconator fries, Key lime pie, Red velvet cheesecake. Nb the deserts are delicious and very obviously made in house, there aren't many restaurants of any size that can deliver such attention to detail. A welcome change from caterer supply tosh. All dishes are well worth having again, but we will be going back to try some more of the menu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another fantastic visit to smokin jacks, was very busy but the staff were on top of all orders. The deputy sheriff (Michaela) was fab and in control the whole time, she even took the time to make sure we had a great photo. The food was sooooo good and the cocktails are a must. Smokin jacks does get busy so booking in advance is something to take into consideration, a little wait for food is definitely worth it.

Just had a late lunch here. Lovely staff. In particular a young dark haired girl, very attentive and polite. Love the decor, good food. Price average and on par with other similar pub/restaurants. I wish them every success.

Omg. The best steak on the island and the LARGEST rack of ribs I've ever seen.

Had an absolutely amazing meal here. The whole family agreed, the best burgers in a very long time. The staff were wonderful. The young woman working bent over backwards to help us get into the restaurant with my FILs wheelchair and was really lovely with my children. I've given 5 stars because that's the limit, you'll have to imagine the rest for yourself.

Nice venue, good decor. Food was really good, certainly not fast food as everything is cooked fresh to order. Only disappointment was having an early booking ribs were not available. Overall good food, good price. Will be back.

We booked last minute through the website for a table at 6pm for our anniversary. We had an email within 45 mins explaining that they couldn’t do 6pm but could do 630pm so we excepted but explained our taxi was already booked and that we were in no rush as we were out for our anniversary. We arrived just before 6pm and was seated and great very quickly and professionally even though we arrived early and at the same time as a table of 8. We ordered food and drinks within 10 mins of being seated. It was unfortunate that the honey rolls weren’t ready so we could have them as complimentary to the table as per the menu but we understand the pub can get really busy and with all food being made on the premises these things happen. I could tell the “Deputy Sheriff” had been in hospitality game for a while as she was very good at making sure everything happened at the right time for instance the seated tables had complimentary nacho chips due to the honey rolls not being available but they came at around 20 mins after ordering which is the correct and sensible way to do things (don’t lay all your cards on the table too early) my wife had the Unicorn Burger which looked amazing, the colours and the glitter was impressive as was the taste. I had the Jack Daniels Burger which was amazing too so tasty and again looked really good the sweet potato wedges were great. We also asked for mozzarella sticks which again was really good. None of the food was greasy, under/over cooked or cold which for a busy undermanned pub that prepares and cooks everything on site was a great achievement. There are a couple of negative reviews on here that mention about poor service and the owners children which I feel after our experience twisted and cruel. If you have ever been in the hospitality industry like myself you would understand how that it doesn’t take much to start the snowball effect and rude customers don’t help, I mean even Claridges have their off days and as for the children being behind the bar so what it is nice to know that there are families within the industry that can still have some family life too (which I didn’t have hence why I am no longer in hospitality). Toni, what you and your husband along with your staff have achieved is really good and something that I feel will eventually be vital with the right moves you gave us a lovely evening and a place that we will definitely be back to visit again. And as for your son helping you during service you must be so proud and hopefully in a few years his dad will have a Sous Chef to take some of the load off.

Food was amazing the ribs were massive service was great 😃 and being surrounded by the Jack Daniels history was great too.

There was 7 adults and 1 child to eat here,the place didn't look very much on arrival,small carpark and outside area all of which could do with updating.But the welcome and friendliness certainly made up for it 😀 the service and food was amazing and the staff attended to our every need, certainly worth a visit and we will definitely be back 😃.

Beautiful food, ribs were stunning, burger was beautiful too, I had the unicorn burger, service was excellent.

A real shame. As a table of 7 with the first order in before the dinner rush, we waited well over an hour for food to arrive. Although we were told the wait wouldn't be much longer, there was no apology from our server. After 2.5 hours we couldn't bring ourselves to order desserts. The homemade rolls advertised on the menu were not available as they hadn't made any that day. We had to re-order food as some items were not available, including the ribs. 🙁. With a bill of £160 at £20 per burger, although they were very tasty, the service let the whole experience down. If you charge that sort of money, the experience needs to be high end. This includes the tools lying around everywhere and the flies all over the dirty toilets. I don't think it's unreasonable to be offered a discount or at least a drink by way of an apology when things don't go right, unfortunately this was not the case in this instance. I'd like to give it another go as the food was generally really good aside from some very stale nachos with cheese sauce for £4.5. Such potential just a long way short of the money being charged.

Service appalling, took one and a half hours to get starters, which we had asked to come out with main. Food greasy, staff were in garden when we looked for then. Only 2 other tables of four attempting to order food. Gave us £25 discount because of long wait!!!!! Will never go back, shame it could have been so much better

Live in the village and a lovely, local, friendly village pub. Good ales, food was incredible, fantastic and the best steak in years! Paella was stunning! The revamp is lovely with a great atmosphere, Sat in the garden in the setting sun ☀ lovely! Discount available for military and emergency services. 19/4/21 just had the JD burger with fries and a Corona. It was absolutely lovely.

nice little pub/restaurant. food was lovely. I could eat the Texas toast as a big plate meal alone it was so tasty. For people moaning on here about wait times yes there is a bit of a wait but not the longest wait for food i have ever had, tho from myself an partner having worked in pubs an restaurants we totally understand why you wait when its cooked fresh not just microwave food. enjoyed joining in wearing a cowboy hat

Food was unbelievably good, fresh chicken wings fresh buttermilk chicken burger, the chips were cooked perfect, beer was tip top! The manager and her staff greeted my family and made them feel welcome and we even left with some goodies, will definitely be talking about this place, make sure you go and experience this place, Smoking jacks is the one!!! First time visiting today for lunch, food was great, nice Texas themed food. Staff friendly. Slightly more expensive than usual but we enjoyed it. All I'll say is, if the Garden was abit more presentable which looked like they were in the process of it'll make it more appealing but overall we're glad we tried it. The food is absolutely amazing! We went for our anniversary and wasn't disappointed. The onion rings are the best I've ever had, and the burgers are out of this world. The staff were lovely! Always on hand and very chatty. I felt very welcome and comfortable there. I'd recommend it if you are an American food fan, and especially if you like JD, so many choices!

Took 5 mins before anyone greeted us in an empty pub after shouts of hello. Landlady dealing with her baby and her young children behind the bar some of the time. Menu very limited with the food very expensive at £18 for burger and a few chips. Food took over 30mins to arrive and we were the first to order. Could find no evidence of avocado, chorizo or cheese in the burger we both ordered. Very disappointing would not visit again.

Tonight was the first time I had been to smoking jacks and I can truthfully say I was not disappointed the food was out of this world I have not had a true American experience anywhere like this in the uk. the staff were very friendly I would highly recommended smoking jacks for that something different meal out.

Came in for a meal this evening (Wed 19th October) as we are on our honeymoon having gotten married on 18th. The restaurant was warm and welcoming and had a lovely vibe from the moment we walked in. Between the decor and theming it really did feel like home straight away. We ordered our food and after a short wait our food was served to us and OH MY! My wife ordered steak and I had a burger with loaded fries between us. The food was absolutely phenomenonal, the steak was tender and fell apart and the loaded fries were amazing, our food was generally delicious! Having spoken more with the lovely lady that was serving us it transpired it was Toni the landlady, she is lovely and cannot have done any more for us With my wife being pregnant she is struggling heavily with morning sickness and unable to eat anything without running the risk of throwing up so the steak being so delicious helped her have the first full meal in weeks. Thank you Toni, superstar! EDIT: We went back for more! We were sat in our hotel and both said "smoking jacks?" At the same time so off we went, a little busier this time but we'll managed and it added to the vibe! Fopd was superb once again with Toni front of house running the show. We even got some morning sickness advoce which was such a relaxed conversation! Genuinely cannot ask for more!

This place is literally what dreams are made of!!!! It certainly didn't disappoint and I can officially sign myself in to be 10 stone heavier now as I'll be making frequent visits there... If you live on the Island and haven't visited this place already then ask yourself why not?! seriously go and visit this little gem of a place I guarantee you won't be disappointed, exceptional customer service and the lady who served us literally went above and beyond for us right down to making sure my steak was made exactly how I like it, food was amazing and a lovely cosy feeling about this place ❤️ thanks again smokey Jack's 😊

Ran out of most of the food on the menu and wasn't informed of this until after looking at the menu and after ordering drinks . Had to go elsewhere for food Edit to owners response: I'm sorry but it is true. Not all of us wanted steaks or ribs as you mentioned, 1 person wanted burger which is the only main you had left available and we didnt know what each person wanted to eat until we arrived It would of been better if you told us what items were unavailable when showing us to our tables instead of wasting our time looking at items on the menu which wasn't available. We were very upset as we were looking forward to trying your food and only had two more nights left on the island

Brilliant restaurant/pub with great service. Food was amazing. We came for a Birthday meal, there was a card and a ballon waiting on the table, what a nice feature. Highly recommend burgers were delicious.

Despite the untidiness around the outside of this pub and the funky odour inside, this place had a warm welcome and served up some excellent food.

Wanted to enjoy this experience more but was let down by a few things.. food was nice and a decent amount for what you pay, staff were very friendly and service was fine. The negatives were firstly where we were sat, you could smell the toilets which was off putting. Low stock of beers (Only had Becks). As it's a Jack Daniels bar and I enjoy Jack Daniels I did want to have one and maybe try different flavours but the prices are steep. I guess you go either one way or another if you specialise in something but for a regular JD Coke £5.70 is pushing it and then if you want to double it is £9.70.. where is the incentive to enjoy the range of Jack Daniels products. Were some different flavours that started at £7+ for a single, just don't understand why the mark up needs to be that high. Appreciate they are trying to do something different and hope it works out for them. As a resident of wroxall it's nice to have something available to us like this but I struggle to see myself visiting again.

OMG !! Had the Tennessee Firehouse Burger . 1 of if not the best burger I've ever had . Don't have a snack before you go or you won't finish it . Sadly our last night on the island but can guarantee we'll visit again if and when we're back. Lovely bar , friendly staff , woul definitely recommend

Really special birthday meal for my son. My son is obsessed with Dolly Parton, and chose this place to eat for his birthday and it did not disappoint. The country music playing, was perfect for him. The staff were so friendly and attentive. They had put a big balloon, a birthday card, and a cowboy hat on the table for my son. He was over the moon. The food had the wow factor and tasted lovely. Really glad we came, thank you for having us ❤️ the special touches were so appreciated ❤️

Little quiet but it was a weeknight. Great baconator fries and friendly service.

Ordered a ribeye and was told there was only sirloin, so ordered a sirloin. A couple of minutes later we were told there was no sirloin so I ordered a rack of ribs. The waitress then came back and said there was no rack of ribs either but there was a half rack so I ordered that. The food then took 40 minutes and when it came it wasn't very good. My wife's burger wasn't left to settle so when she picked it up grease spilled all over her clothes. The only reason I didn't give one star is that the waitress was very nice. Edit to respond to reply: For a restaurant to let us choose items from the menu and then tell us they are not available rather than letting us know before choosing, and then accept another order to then return and say you don't have that either, and accept another order, only to return and say you don't have that either is ridiculous. You can make all of the excuses you like but that should never happen in a professional establishment. To then serve two people's meals half an hour before the other two so two children are finished eating and sat waiting getting restless long before our food had arrived is another thing no professional restaurant would ever do. Yes taste is subjective, and you'll notice I didn't mention Pina coladas as if you don't sell them then you don't sell them. Many establishments don't, and the cocktail that was recommended was actually very nice. But to be making a fourth choice from the extremely limited menu just before our children's food arrived, and to not get our food until half an hour after them, is something that you should expect a bad review for, as you did, and something that you should be able to take on the chin and look to make improvements around rather than trying to justify the unjustifiable.

We arrived at 3pm but unfortunately food wasnt being served untill 5pm. However, we were very pleased we waited. Great food. We look forward to returning. Thank you.

Home to one of the best burgers I have ever had. The unicorn is definitely a burger to try, you wouldn't think that mapel syrup would work in a burger but it does.

Stayed near by and walked to the only pub in the area for food. No food that night fid check website first and was nothing to say they were not doing any that night. 2 bags of crisps/drinks later went home. Only customers in.

A great pub/restaurant to chill n have a great time at, staff are awesome people and welcome you and make your experience 10 times better. the menu is unique in its own way and all the food taste amazing good prices and always good deals going on. I did used to work with them but unfortunately i stopped getting in touch with shifts as had many personal problems and didn’t see myself as reliable enough to be a good member off staff for them anymore but for the long while i was with them all they did was make me feel welcome and gave me many opportunities to expand my experience in the kitchen which i’m great full for, if your looking for a fun and warming place to enjoy your nights out for a friends meet up or even a date night i highly recommend here :)

First time here at The Star.. found it using the dineWight app, and boy am I glad I did.! Host was very polite and nice to talk to, food was amazing.! Will return in the future.! Definitely on the favourites list.!

Ive never been to the IOW and I wanted to experience some good pub food with a difference. My friend - a local - said we really MUST visit her favourite pub - The Star. We were certainly not disappointed ! I ordered the Jack Daniels Special Burger with real beer-battered onion rings and bacon in a activated charcoal bun (!) with a JD dipping sauce and sweet potato wedges - it was FANTASTIC! My friend had the Impossible Burger in a luminous green bun with sweet potato fries and loved it! Both meals were presented beautifully and smelt divine! We experienced such a lovely ambiance there, with their quirky lights, warm decor and friendly welcoming owners/staff! Nothing was too much trouble for them and the Chef spoke with such enthusiasm for his signature dishes, that I wished I had time to try them all! Do visit this welcoming pub - you will not be disappointed - and will return home happy, full and spoilt by their kind attention!

We attended whilst on holiday on the Isle of White. The staff here were so friendly and chatty. They couldn't do enough for us. We came for food which was worth travelling for !! Lovely place to while away an hour or two.

This place is outstanding! The food stands out from the crowd and tastes as amazing as it looks. The staff are extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. They definitely go above and beyond for their customers. We will definitely be returning!

Unfortunately this didn't live up to expectations. There was only 4 tables an when we were there and we still had to wait 20mins to order our drinks and it was over half an hour more to order food. Then another half hour to get it (which we can live with for nice food). What came was average at best the chicken burger was a deep fried breaded chicken burger which was very dry. The beef burgers were all dry with the exception of the kids slider burgers. Overall expensive for a below average meal. On the upside the waitress was very polite.

9 of us came to eat at the star jd bar. Three children 6 adults. The food and drink is fantastic and so are the staff. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed it and can't recommend enough. We are away on a two week caravan holiday from up in Lancashire and this is our first time visiting the star. Keep up the good work.

What a fabulous lunch! The food was absolutely top notch, and the staff - even short handed as they were today - were absolutely fabulous. Best fried pickles I've ever had, and the JD burger is an absolute beast. Booking highly advised to avoid disappointment!

Very friendly and oldy worldy. We felt like locals by the end. Menu is very American. We asked if they would do a platter for us as we preferred to try small portions from selected items. This was not on the menu but they agreed and sure surpassed themselves. Superb. Really recommend a visit.

Poor awful food much of the menu unavailable even at six in the evenint staff pleasant but stay clear!!
