Smith's in Tower Hamlets

Had a lovely evening food was amazing. But. Please check if you have any allergies. As was not asked by staff. When looking at the menu the fish is fried in peanut oil - which I really don't understand. Lucky I was able to have it grilled.

I have visited this establishment multiple times and previously enjoyed the dining experience, but this visit was an extreme disappointment, primarily due to the appalling quality of service. From the start, the experience was riddled with mistakes and unprofessional behavior. After being seated and offered water, the waitress proceeded to pour water leaning over one of my guests as she could not reach over and spilling ice across the table. Instead of walking around to properly serve the water, she leaned over and attempted to clean up by using her hands to scoop up the fallen ice, which was unprofessional. Next, when the waiter came to take our order, I asked for the meunière cod, clearly describing it as per the menu (lightly floured and shallow-fried in butter). Instead of confirming the order, the waiter incorrectly interpreted this as a request for battered fish. He repeated the order back with visible confusion and uncertainty, further diminishing confidence in the service. The final straw came with the same waitress who spilled the water earlier. When serving the prawn cocktail starter, she dropped both the spoon and fork on my shoes which required a visit to the bathroom to clean which was both careless and frustrating. After enduring this series of poor service incidents, I spoke to the General Manager, expecting a resolution or at least an acknowledgment of the issues. Unfortunately, the GM failed to address the situation adequately. To add insult to injury, when the bill arrived, it included a service charge despite the unacceptable service. We had to request for it to be removed. While the food remains good, the service has deteriorated to an appalling standard. The lack of professionalism from the staff and the failure of the General Manager to resolve these issues have made this an incredibly disappointing experience. I will not be returning.

No sign of the cost of living crisis in Smith's on the day our party had lunch there. Every table was full and the place was buzzing. Food was really good, and plenty of it. Wine was excellent and so was the service, considering how busy the restaurant was, and we were not rushed through our meal. We did have to get off the table at 5pm so the staff could prepare for the evening shift, but by then we'd been sitting there for 4 hours, so it was fair enough. The restaurant overlooks tower bridge and the LondonEye on the bank of the Thames, so is in a great location. It was particularly festive at the end of November with the bridge and the Eye all lit up with Christmas lights. The bill with wine came to about £120 per head for two courses and a few desserts (not everyone could manage a dessert), but we felt it was worth it for the quality of the food and for the overall experience.

Although making a pre visit booking and travelling from Scotland for our annual visit to this restaurant. We very very disappointed to be allocated seats that meant I was looking directly at a solid wall ( the far end of the restaurant) and had no view of the magical Thames or the bridge. Spoke to the general manager and was advised that there was no other seats absolve. As all tables were booked !!!! This really spoiled the total experience. Being stuck up against the wall meant that you were surrounded by very large round and noisy tables and st times failed to get the full attention of the normally excellent waiting team. The tabkes at this solid WALL area of the restaurant appear to me to be a stopgap and should be changed to make their patrons feel welcomed.

One of my most favorite dining experiences in London. We are really looking forward to visiting Smiths of Ongar after this exceptional dining experience. You're paying for value and quality here. We had what felt like a very personalised staff experience. You're well looked after but not harassed. I can't recommend Smiths more. Between 2 of us we had the following; Pan-Fried Tiger Prawns, Garlic, Tomato & Chilli Sauce (the sauce is absolutely delicious with the fresh warm bread). Soft Shell Crab For mains my husband had the steak with dauphinoise potatoes. I had Roasted Shellfish (½ Native Lobster, Whole Jumbo Tiger Prawn, Scottish Scallops, Grilled Cherry Tomatoes & Garlic Butter) Our mains were very substantial. We really didn't need the starters! But my husband did enjoy a dessert of melting chocolate cake. Our bill was over £250 but this is a dining experience unlike the average. A great place for special milestone or celebration.

Had a fab time last night. Every single staff member was welcoming, respectful and courteous. For this alone, I will be back. Food was exceptional. Mehmet our main waiter was great!

Visited yesterday for an afternoon meal. From the welcome at the front door it was a superb experience. The food was incredible and the staff were extremely attentive throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

I’ve eaten here twice a year for the past 2 years as part of a large group. Each time I’m reminded of the impeccable service, joyous waterside location and most importantly the really first rate food. I ordered the steak and it was delicious. My friend ordered fhe seabass. Fantastic too. Service was quite fast. The view was nice but the sun shone right j yo my face. Rather uncomfortable.

I attended Smiths of Wapping last night and was met by a very RUDE hostess at the front desk. I was there to celebrate my birthday and a family member had booked the table. I gave the hostess the reservation name to which she could not find. Rather than asking me if she could see (the email reservation) as most would she told me to “Step aside “ to let others in. I then went back after confirming the name of the reservation, again she could not find it. So I called my relative to realise the booking was made at Ongar (a simple mistake) and told me to step aside again. Good customer service would have been to have a colleague to check with me while she was serving other diners. I was made to feel extremely unwelcome, and I had the right attire on. I would like to add that the team at Ongar were fantastic and so welcoming throughout my entire experience with them, creating a very personable experience when I finally arrived. (Please express my gratitude to all the staff at Ongar). The food was exceptional to match and they were very accommodating.

Absolutely fantastic service by all of the staff. The food was good and the place had a busy, lively atmosphere. I'm definitely going back in the summer to take advantage of the riverside view.

We’ve been coming to Smiths Wapping for a number of years. Last nights visit was a table of 9 with a new waiter Mehmet. I have to say his attention to detail and general friendliness was if he has been there for years. It certainly made the night more enjoyable. I have to say from the moment we were greeted to the way all the staff we spoke to responded this restaurant is still no 1 The food as always is absolutely perfect and presented how you would expect. Cannot fault any part of the night. Oh and for those that didn’t know. Bakewell tart is back!!!

Yesterday I celebrated my wedding with family in Smith of Wapping & it was the best choice ❤️ Food, atmosphere, extremely good service, stunning view. My guests said it was the best restaurant they ever visited ❤️ Highly recommend!

Food was excellent!! I like my food hot with heat and this was how I received my food, hot from the beginning right to the end and tasty also.  My fish was cooked to perfection. Staff was friendly and helpful. This was my second visit. Went a couple of years ago for my wedding anniversary. Would recommend visiting this restaurant.

Love this restaurant! These guys have got everything 'spot-on!' From service, (unbelievable service) to venue (overlooking the Thames with views of Tower Bridge) to choice of menu (excellent choice and quality of food). If you love seafood and want great service you will love Smiths of Wapping. In my opinion it is in the top 5 of seafood restaurants in London.

Wonderful staff, friendly, professional and helpful. The food is delicious and cooked to perfection. I think the oysters I had were the best I've tasted, yum yum yum.

First time visit. I had heard good reports previously, but the food exceeded my expectations. Service excellent but not intrusive. The tables are not crowded together and there is a pleasant buzz in the room. Recommend

Visited with friends for dinner. Really relaxed atmosphere, staff were so friendly, polite, knowledgeable and thoughtful. The food was amazingly delicious. I had a special, "Pan Fried Lemon Sole Fillets & Shetland Scallops, Mussel & Saffron Cream Sauce with Shallots & Peppers". We shared the desserts and they were fantastic.

Classy, very busy restaurant Food & service unbelievable Atmosphere superb, nearly fell off my chair when I recieved our bill but it was 100% worth it, the food was absolutely devine especially all the meats including the sea foods so so fresh & beautifully cooked. 10/10 Was a treat for my wife's birthday, returning soon with some close friends, will also choose Smith's of Wapping to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary next month. For what it's worth & I eat quite regularly in many top restaurants around the whole of London, this is one is one of the best I've visited & eaten in over the past 20 plus years, I can't recommend this top end fantastic quality restaurant enough....

This was our first visit, a present from our children. Food and service were excellent. Unfortunately we were seated next to a couple who were hot desking and conducted their business on their mobiles throughout.

We came for Sunday lunch, it was very good. Good choices on the menu. Our food was hot and nicely presented. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. A very clean, relaxing and spacious restaurant. Recommended

On Sunday we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Smith’s in Wapping. This is a fish restaurant located on the river thames giving you an amazing view of tower bridge. When we arrived we were given a friendly welcome before being escorted to our table. Once settled our waiter Saulius presented us with the menu which was full of amazing sounding fish dishes. They also serve meat courses and a roast on a sunday. Starters (1) Steamed Scottish Venus Clams , garlic , shallots and chablis (2) Grilled Cornish Mackerel Fillet , fresh creamed horseradish , english watercress These dishes were absolute heaven and were being enjoyed with a bottle of Albarino. Mains (3) Guernsey Skate Meunière , sautéed samphire , brown shrimps , lemon buerre blanc (4) Baked Norwegian Halibut , tartare and parmesan crust , chablis cream sauce The cooking was absolutely perfect and definitely the best halibut dish I’ve ever had. Desserts (5) English Wye Valley Strawberries , clotted cream ice cream , butter shortbread (6) Caramelised Apple Tarte Tatin , vanilla ice cream The desserts were just a perfect way to finish a truly excellent lunch. Every dish was cooked to perfection. They have a very extensive menu so you could easily see why people return on a regular basis. This is definitely something I can see ourselves doing in the future. The service from the team is first class and nothing is too much trouble. My only disappointment was that I hadn’t been before but be rest assured it will not be long before we’re back. So without any doubt I would highly recommend a visit. I visited the restaurant on Saturday evening with my wife and 2 other couples. We had an early table and after our 2 hour slot we continued our evening at the bar. The food was excellent but not cheap. The service was good but waiters in the restaurant and bar area seemed to be on a selling mission much like an old school double glazing salesman!! The whole experience was marred by the fact that one of our party who is disabled had continuous issues accessing the disabled toilet facility. Normally these facilities are locked and require a special key to utilise them. This is not the case at Smiths. On 3 occasions my friend had to wait to access the toilet and on each occasion it was occupied by a member of staff. Obviously this was not acceptable and he requested to speak to the manager. The managers response left our party and other diners who were leaving the restaurant in complete disarray. He said the toilet was for everyone’s use and he should have been made aware of my friend’s disability. My friend had been in the restaurant for 4.5 hours in a wheelchair using the lift to access the restaurant from the bar and again on leaving the restaurant to return to the bar. The table for 6 people was set up with 5 chairs and a space for my friend in his wheelchair. I think the restaurant was well aware of the circumstances. The manager had a total disregard for my friends disability. There are lots of great restaurants in London so I suggest you think twice about visiting Smiths. If you check other reviews you will see other issues with the management here. Happy to take your £100 per head but not as happy dealing with situations. In the words of a band from the 80’s yazoo “DONT GO”!!!!

I had heard a lot about Smith’s so decided to book lunch for 9 of us to celebrate my 70th birthday. I was taken to a table by the window which is what I had requested. The service, quality of food and general ambience is second to none and I will definitely be returning soon. We had the lunch set menu but with lots of choices. The manager asked who was Greek? I said my late husband was half Greek and after a chat about Greek names, I was offered a bottle of champagne or wine on the house. This made my day really special and I cannot praise the Manager and Staff highly enough.

Just outside the City boundaries- through St Katherine Docks is a gem of a fish restaurant. Great place, we were there for lunch. I couldn't fault it. Thank you Smiths.

This is a special place. Privileged to dine here as frequently as we do. Dimitri goes above and beyond to ensure we are looked after in the best possible way. Food is always exceptional and has not changed over the 10 years we have been visiting. Simply the best.

Fine dining experience, great meals the savoury is intergalactic

Have been twice recently, making special trips, once for a la carte lunch on a weekend and once for a weekday set menu for our anniversary. Delicious in every aspect with attentive but not obtrusive service, great cocktails and wine. As much care is given to the side dishes and honouring the freshness of the vegetables as to the fish cooking and the superb sauces.

Saturday night dinner at Smith’s in Wapping. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the maitre d, who showed us to our table. The waiter explained how to view the menus using a QR scanner. He was friendly and professional at all times. For starter I chose the Miso Glazed Black Cod, Beetroot, Sea Samphire, Yuzu, Sesame & Red Chilli Dressing. For main my selection being the Shetland Scallops Meuniere accompanied with Dauphinoise Potatoes. The food was cooked to perfection, the balance of flavours excellent, the presentation a feast for the eyes. It was served in a timely manner. The waiters remembering what we had ordered when serving. There is a good wine selection to complement the food. We chose the Chablis Premier Cru, Forêts, Louis Michel 2020, chilled perfectly, poured expertly. The restaurant is located next to the River Thames. As Sunset arrived, the lights of the City, with the Tower of London, and the Shard came to prominence providing fabulous views to the west of the restaurant. Their web site says ‘Smith’s of Wapping is a feast for the senses’ and this is so true. We will be returning.

Another fantastic lunch at Smith's for Father's Day. Faultless service & a delicious roast. I always usually have the fish here, but I decided to stick with tradition this time and plumped for roast lamb, which was excellent. Dessert was an Irish Creme brulee, which was sublime. Staff couldn't do more for us. We've been coming to Smith's for years and it never disappoints!

Took my daughter for her 30th birthday, The whole experience was wonderful, food fantastic, you must try the oysters the vinaigrette was amazing, the portions are genours so don't over order. My daughter said the expreso Martin was the best she has ever had, believe me this is a massive recommendation David Marshall

Had the most enjoyable lunch at Smith's. Dishes that stood out were the lobster, scallops, oysters, and the duo soft shell crab and jumbo prawns. All the food was amazing and very fresh. Raj and Gidex looked after us so well and all the staff were very attentive. Thank you for a wonderful experience

Went to this restaurant for my mrs birthday and it couldn’t have been better. The food was out of this world. Best seafood we have had plus the best service we have had. The attention to detail was absolutely amazing. Alex in particular was extremely attentive and friendly.

Listen, I consider myself a well-versed connoisseur of steak. I’ve had some amazing steaks throughout my life. But unfortunately, Smith’s has ruined all other steaks for me because they fed me the literal best steak I’ve ever had in my life, and it was so good, every other steak I’ve had tastes awful in retrospect. That’s how good it was. The steak was explosive with flavor as the chef successfully rendered the fat within the meat, giving it a luminous glisten, butter-like texture, and maximum savory sensation. The peppercorn sauce was a perfect pair as well. It was so buttery and not overly peppery like some peppercorn sauces. But that’s not even what impressed me the most — I avidly dislike seafood with a passion. I don’t even like lobster. But I tried my fiancée’s lobster and wow — I may have to re-evaluate some of my flavor preferences after trying that lobster. It was flavorful, tender, and incredibly fresh. The dessert was amazing, too. We had the raspberry sponge pudding and it tasted like an elevated Verona cookie. The raspberry was perfectly tart. The sponge, albeit ever so slightly dense, was incredibly moist and delicious. Their wine is also top notch! My only regret is that I don’t live in London to try their set menu!
