The most awful place to deliver. I hate it every time I have to go there.

Good place to go buy meat in bulk only at night shut during the day very busy at night with lots of people bulk buying meat lots of nightclubs also in the area so plenty of human meat on show as well plenty of Asians also go to buy there meat there an sell it on as halal although to my knowledge none of it is actually halal still if you bulk buy meat then this is the place to go

Unfortunately an awful experience from the stall "ABSALOM & TRIBE LTD". Bought some ribs sealed in a food vacuum bag, to find out later the same day these were already gone bad.

It’s very disappointing to read all this ridiculous people review about the Smithfield market hundred and 2 hundred years rich history who asked you about that? It’s totally nonsense this is meat market and I pop in to see review about the meat quality and how is the pichagna I’m thinking to go and buy pichagna but no one is talking about the meat quality

Smithfield Market first opened in 1875 and is part of London heritage now. This classic market is buzzing like a bee because full crowded from open to close with some of the finest meat, poultry and seafood in London. Its also known as the UK's largest wholesale meat market supplying everything from Beef, lamb, chicken, cheese, free range, halal, organic to cheeses and seafood.

We came here today to see what the hype was about. Meat isn’t any cheaper than what it is in the shops we spent a grand total of £95.88 for chicken beef and 2 packs of sausages.

It is worth your visit. I did it with a free tour. There was very little business in the afternoon.

You can find almost all kind of meat here. Closing time have changed from 7.30am to 6.30am.

This place is an amazing market and a rich seam in London’s history. You can feel the atmosphere and would be hard pressed to find a part of london which represents its historic past in such a living and vivid manner. Meat selection is great and very reasonably priced, though arriving well before 0600 if you want the biggest selection

The best place to buy meat in London

The market is open from midnight to 7a.m. to the public. It has been on this site for over 800 years and is the largest wholesale meat market in the UK.

Good market, we were there at 5am and it did not yet look like sellers were closing up. The selection disappointed me a bit. There was a stall with dry aged beef and beef in general had ample representation. Pork seemed to be a bit less well represented. Various non-traditional parts are still not as easy to find - e.g I could only find one place with pork knuckles (they only sold them in batches of 3 too). Overall many stalls have very comparable selection, it’s not like every stall has their own specialization or something. Birds are represented poorly in my opinion. There was some chicken as well as small whole birds but I could not find any duck at all. Prices were mostly reasonable - beef fillet was a bit on the high end but still of course much cheaper than in a butcher’s. You can pay with a card

A great place to go if you have room to store your meat in bulk!! The prices have gone up quite a lot since last year so be warned! Still cheaper than going to the supermarkets etc and much more fun! Pork, beef, lamb, turkey, gammon, bacon, sausages, tripe, trotters, black pudding, white pudding, sausage meat, salami, chorizo, hams, steak, top side, rump, sirloin etc etc. Lots to choose from and well worth the visit.

Fresh meats sold in bulk (only) at reasonable price, for instance beef shin is around £6.90 per kg, Morrisons is £9 per kg. Park in their loading bay if you need to buy couple of hundred quids of meats and do bring your own trolley with you. Or park on the street next to it's entrance.

Good place to buy , beef pork lamb, and mozzarella cheese. The prices are much better than other places.

We came here for the Bartholomew Festival in the market. Live performances in different stages quite cool.

Avoid James Burden Ltd Provisions and Delicatessen. We visited Smithfield Market for the first time and were completely shocked and disappointed at the utter rudeness of the staff at James Burden Ltd. They seem to be really busy doing other stuff between the hours 2 am and 8 am, so it is recommended they should either close the stall until they are free to serve customers or appoint someone specialized to deal with customers sales and enquiries. It would also be great if they put some price labels on the shelves as their prices are a bit more expensive than supermarkets.

This place is so full of history, you can feel it as you walk around and read all of the amazing history on the walls. Stories of the people who worked there from war times to present day. This area of london has such a rich and deep history that it’s a place you have to visit just to say you’ve been. The area looks like it’s suffering from the economy as quite a few bars and other businesses close their doors. It just to walk through the market is a real treat. Today I walked around the surrounding area and my goodness this part of town was really distasteful and dangerous back in the days history of hangings, places where you could sell your wife at the meat market if you could not get divorced, 😂 wow how crazy is that? William Wallace was dragged behind a horse to his death from the Tower of London to Smithfield. I’m sure you can do research yourself because I can not do it justice because everything I learned was from my visit today. I added some images of those stories in my photographs. Enjoy your visit even if it’s to see the amazing buildings steeped in history.

I recently visited the market for the first time and I was very impressed. The selection was amazing, with a variety of fresh meats. The goods were well-stocked and organized, making it easy to find what I was looking for. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this market to anyone looking for fresh meat.

It was much less than I expected. Hopefully, in the new location, they will change the old habits. I mean, open the market around 00.00am, and start to sell around 02.00.

My Smithfield's Christmas nite trip tradition is back alive again😍 I get such a kick to travel in the middle of the night and go down there to. compete with the other carnivore for the best fresh and awesome piece of meat ever 😃 over Christmas🌲🍾✨💕 As always it was amazing, and easier as on the weekend there's 24hour trains. I got off from St. Paul's, walked up to Barbican that was just 5 mins up right after the Museum or London. It was awesome, easily got 15kg of meat. Absolutely awesome fresh and totally worth the trip. 3am and it was BUSY! full of stock and people!

Always a great place to go especially at Christmas time! All the stalls are stocked and the guys serving are happy to help. The whole environment is pleasant. The car parking is free and the cafes are open. We always go between 3am and 4am and get all the meat we want for at least half the following year. Spend around £300:00 and you'll have meat for ages and ages. Well worth the visit!!

Great place to go for your poultry a very wide selection to choose from. Just don't turn up with your hands full of stuff otherwise you'll get over charged without knowing if your paying by touch n go.

Wonderful to walk through the market at night time

Drivers!! Absolutely horrendous place. Nowhere to park up everyone is rude to you if you block one those 1 million vans parking everywhere even on double yellows in the middle of the road. Very hard to drive around them without hitting them. Market management does a very poor job as this is a total chaos. Between 8:15-9:15 can’t leave towards Aldersgate street because the roads towards it are obviously cycle and pedestrian zone to make your life easier… don’t get caught

This is the 2nd time I am going there. Those guys are friendly but doing business. I will definitely go back again for the prices and the great experience

I went to Smithfield around 1am yesterday. Wed not too busy. You need to take a ticket at the machine before you enter the underground carpark. There are no signs in the carpark informing you of where you need to pay for the ticket on exit. The machine is in a silly place almost at the exit to get out. This needs to be clearly signposted. Some of the stall holders are extremely helpful especially a very helpful gentleman at Reeve and company. Lots of other stall holders were really busy. They are too busy preparing the meat for restaurant holders I assume. Please ensure you bring your own trolley as they do not have any for the public. If you buy lots of meat from them they may lend you their trolley. The carpark is a little walk away. Check your goods before you leave as they are chopping meat in the back so you can't see what they are giving you. Goat is very expensive. The one I got was full of fat when I got this home. If I didn't live so far away I would have taken it back. Smithfield is a hype. You are better off going to your local Asian or Turkish butcher. Pork is reasonable but nothing else. They had the cheek to put the chicken prices up because of carnival. To me it's not worth missing a good night sleep over. I think it's good for restauranteurs but not your average person.

Got there at about 4am and half the market had sold out, but eventually got good deals from those that still had stock. The market seems like it could be bigger though.

Good fresh meat as usual. Prices are up by as much as twenty five percent.

A lot cheaper than the shops, and if you go on a regular basis you can strike some deals on what you buy

Perfect place to buy huge quantities of quality meat. 🍖🍗 Lots of stalls and beautiful cuts of meat here, fillet, picanha, rump and at much cheaper prices. If you are throwing a party or a big bbq, you will get excellent quality and save loads. Only downfall is that it opens REALLY early in the mornings, best time to head in is after 1am when all stalls are completely open. Also avoid Friday mornings, go earlier in the week - you might find that the best cuts are gone closer to the weekend.

Smithfield market is surprisingly small for such an historic market supplying Central London. It is open from midnight until held seven in the morning, but the best time to go is around four o'clock. Many of the butchers don't open until one, or two in the morning, and a lot of their produce is pre ordered by restaurants and local butcher's shops. If you are after chicken, make sure to get there before five, although as I write this there is a shortage of chicken, so none to be had at any time. If particular note is an Italian delicatessen in the South end, that have all the usual Italian food, plus really good burgers.

So loud during the night, impossible to sleep. People shouting and horning, transfer of boxes or whatever it is are not being delicate. Terrible night experiences.

The market area for non trade people is quite small and a lot of traders do not except card, cash only. Saying that the choice is good and better value than supermarkets. You need to get up early to make the most. Very busy area with restaurants collecting meat, vans everywhere. They have a large underground car park which is reasonably priced.

Excellent place to get your meat, poultry and game at a very reasonable price. All stalls are manned by friendly efficient people. Most stalls open at 2.00 am you need to get there before 6.00 am, if not everyone is busy with despatches. Please do not park on the street in any vacant spaces as there are traffic wardens hiding like hawks in the dark alleyways. Please park at the Smithfield's market car park which is on the southside.
