Amazing place, food, wine and service - I would definitely come back when I visit Scotland and Edinburgh again and will definitely recommend it to everyone!!!

What is offered as English cheese in Germany is a disgrace. This quickly becomes clear when you order the English-Scottish-Irish cheese platter with the delicious wine. The Scottish one is simply an aromatically balanced dream, ripe and strong in taste, the Irish one is honest and strong and the English one is surprisingly spicy and very round. Followed the recommendation for the red wine - everything went very well. Not to forget the wonderful bread. It's almost a shame that we ate beforehand - we would have wanted to order more here.

Took 40 mins for food to arrive but it was very good when it did.

Brilliant addition to Portobello’s growing selection of places to experience quality food and drink. An excellent wine bar, offering a carefully curated range of interesting wines from around the world by the glass, bottle or tasting flight. Attention to detail is obvious - every new bottle is tasted to ensure quality and each glass is polished to perfection. Staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Ordered a meat and cheese board for me and some friends with some wine, staff was knowledgeable and place was immaculate, highly recommended. Worth every penny, will return!

Disappointing, overpriced, poor service ( 10% compulsory service charge which was sneakly applied) and sterile environment. The boards are very very small and very very overpriced. Customer service is extremely poor and considering that the place has few tables and 4 staff standing at the front, is totally un-acceptable. Will not visit again.

We found this spot thanks to the ReStalk cider event, and I'm so glad we did! The staff is incredible, and the food and drinks are wonderful. We had such a good time that we came back the next day (the last day of our trip) for another round of cider and wine. We look forward to coming back on our next trip!

Stopped in for a late bite and a glass of wine. A delicious selection of cheeses and charcuterie and a glass of wine from a good range available by the glass. Minimal decoration, cool and composed as was the service. Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Stopped here for lunch while wandering around Stockbridge. Wine and cheese does exactly what it says on the tin. There was a good selection of wine by the glass and the charcuterie board was generous with cheese and meat.

The place ti go if you like cheese and wine

I can’t rate this wonderful place highly enough. I came in here as a solo traveller travelling for work and got a seat at the bar. I decided to do the Big red wine flight with matching cheeses, and then at the end got an amazing Scottish cheese to finish. The wine and cheese were absolutely wonderful and the younger guy behind the bar making the charcuterie boards was so lovely and friendly. Highly recommend if you are visiting Edinburgh- I will be coming back! 😀💛

A chilled, relaxing wine bar with a great selection of wines from across the world. There's lots to chose from and all available at reasonable prices. Cheese and charcuterie are carefully chosen and served in generous portions with lots of extras (the chilli jam was 👌). Vinyl player in the back provides a soothing soundtrack and the staff are terribly helpful!

First time in here in a long time and won't leave so long again next time. Excellent wine choices. We also went for the 5 Cheese board which came with crackers and sourdough bread. We thought it was excellent value at £17. There was also an extremely tantalising display of anchovies, sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella which if we hadn't already had dinner would have had us ordering that also.

For a very occasional wine drinker, I always find something I like from Smith & Gertrude. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. With the delivery service offered during and since lockdown, we've enjoyed a few fantastic deliveries of both the weekend and weeknight packs. Thank you S&G

If you love wine and you're in Edinburgh, this is the place to go. Unbelievable selection of wines, incredibly knowledgeable (and down to earth) staff, fantastic chilled out atmosphere. It's not cheap but it's good value for the quality of the wines and the time the staff spend with you to make sure you order the right wine for you.

Nice but a little bit pricey good tasters menus and finer wines.

Wine flights is the way to go. Their menu changes every week, so you have to go there regularly to explore the world of wine and cheese

Nice place to have a drink, specially at the back in the sofas. The way to the restrooms is another story, It looks like a dungeon, really cool.

We came in for a wine or two and stayed all afternoon, sitting on the sofa reading and drinking wine. Great selection of wines!! The staff have good knowledge of the wines, so we could banter with them easily. Great cheese selection too. Background music was fitting and perfect level. Best way to spend a lazy day! Note to staff - make sure you turn on the extractor fan earlier when making toasties. Got a bit smokey and chokey for a while (as much as I love cheese toasties).

Honestly this was a hidden gem in plain sight. It is located near Stockbridge, one of these places you pass by everyday. The wine selection is one of the best in town, with various wines from different regions. The cheese plate is top class and the secret weapon of this place is the service. Friendly and informative, all the stuff was there to help you and very knowledgeable as well. Every recommendation was spot on!! Had an amazing time! Will definitely visit again!!

Excellent wine bar with an extensive list of wines and cheese and charcuterie boards to accompany the wine, all of the finest quality. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable and in spite of my quite confusing specifications of wine preferences managed to help me picking the bottle right to my taste. Add to it nice atmosphere, outdoor sitting and nice music selection and you have a great place to spend a while!

Absolutely incredible - delicious little find. Had sobrasada and honey, black truffle crisps (a bargainous 2.50) and grilled cheese sandwich and an AMAZING - truly memorable bottle of red wine. Lovely atmosphere, comfy sofa in the back, cute little tables outside, lovely knowledgeable staff.

Nice wine bar with Antipodean touches not lost on me. Good to enjoy a sort after glass of sparkling shiraz for my Christmas fix. Shame we missed the opportunity to have the cheese with wine pairing, but thanks for the festive sweet treat.

Excellent nibbles, magnificent staff from all over world, Finn's, Hungarian, Canadian, French, Italian, Irish. Although I am a lover and a connoisseur of wine I had wine here from a number of previously untried countries, England and Armenian just to name a few. I travel a few times a year to Edinburgh and this is now one of my favourite after work / weekend chill out places

Great place if you're a wine drinker. S&G has very impressive wine selection from all over the world. Very pleasant place with helpful and professional bar staff. If the weather is nice enough you can enjoy it by sitting outside. Definitely hight on the "must visit" list.

We absolutely loved this place when we visited Edinburgh and wanted to go back again and again. Great staff happy to help choose from their substantial wine and cheese list. An upscale place but they don't make you feel out of place for being a complete novice. Lovely atmosphere and great looking private function room downstairs. Would definitely recommend visiting.

I went in for coffee but it looks more like a wine bar - coffee was served in a cafetiere. Seemed like it's styled for a trendy crowd, but had mainly older clientele around lunchtime. Could be really good, just not what I was expecting.
