Smith and Western in Tunbridge Wells

I've been coming to Smith and Western for years. It's a lovely place and it never fails to disappoint me. The staff are very nice and very good with customers😊

Family friendly with a great ambience we were lucky enough to have live music which was unexpected. The food was great, quite big portions too, we will definitely be going back.

I went here for the first time for my birthday meal at the weekend, and was really disappointed that as a lifelong vegetarian I was served a meat dish, which I didn't realise until I had started eating it. They were apologetic and corrected the dish, but this then put me off the rest of my food. Mistakes happen but I was also really disappointed that they didn't offer to remove it from the bill. Partner liked his dish, but I wouldn't go back.

Nate and the other staff were great, could not fault anything at all. Would definitely visit again, especially for the mini donuts!

We have visited this restaurant several times and we cannot fault it. The staff are friendly , on the ball, keeping the place clean, the food is delicious!! The atmosphere is always lovely and fun, great music!! We stayed in their rooms once which were beautifully presented and clean. Perfectly located if you fancy a walk into the centre or going on the Spa Valley steam train. Delicious breakfast!!

Very good service. And done out very well for Halloween .meal was quick coming and drinks.and were kind and sang happy birthday with firework to my little grandson. Made his day.

Portion sizes are huge. Plenty to choose from also. Busy but still plenty of space as venue is quiet large. The waitress was very friendly and happy. Car parking available

To visit the establishment you need to book a table, we booked it in honor of a friend's birthday, there is a special survey for birthdays on the website, but the staff was not aware of what we came for, although they have an option specifically for birthdays, but no one reads the wishes of customers that were left when booking. But the food was delicious)

First time visiting and WOW what an experience. Brilliant food, good portion sizes, tasty sauce and excellent customer service to top it all. As we walked in, I rather sarcastically exclaimed “wouldn’t be surprised to see cowboy hats and boots here” and to my surprise that’s exactly what all the team were wearing, and the general vibe and energy matched! Lovely experience and will be returning!

We only stayed 1 night but had an evening meal and breakfast, food and service was top notch, all the staff were really good and made us feel so welcome, really interesting hotel, will definitely return

We ate in the western-themed restaurant. Full of character and fun, we had a great family brunch at Smith & Western. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, the food was great, we'll be back.

I haven't been in the rooms but the restaurant it's a unbelievable good. The food mmmm can't say too much just go there and try it.

Fourth overnight stay. Good location for me. Nice rooms. Food is okay, breakfasts are very good but not your normal English sort of thing.

My husband and I came for lunch and we had the Ranchers Feast and it was absolutely fantastic and so was the Mac'n' cheese. Superb Lemon Drop Cocktail too. We had a lovely young lady Ella who was our server and she was very polite and she is a credit to your business. We will definitely be back very soon and Thank You.

Absolutely terrible waiting time booked table for 8 to celebrate my sons gcse day promptly but it was so loud we had to shout at eachother starter came quickly but we waited 1 hour 25mins for main meal kids were so hungry and the food came out cold berry disappointment will not be coming back

I am a regular visitor and always enjoy the food and the atmosphere. The staff are always very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. On Sunday I had a table booked for 6. We arrived and were seated within seconds. Unfortunately the music was so loud we had to shout at each other to be heard. When the member of staff came for our order even he put his finger to his ear to show he could not hear what we were saying. I asked for the music to be turned down. It wasn’t. Our meal arrived and the ribs were not hot but we saw no one to tell. After our meal we wanted desert but again the wait for someone to come was boring and we thought we would forget about desert and go to Sainsbury’s. I managed to catch a member of staff so as I could get the bill in order to pay. If I had not contacted them I think I could have walked out without paying. Very disappointed because like I said it is usually very enjoyable

The room was nice. The bathroom was roomy with a roomy shower. The bedroom was big enough with tables on each side and a closet and desk with a kettle and a pod type coffee machine. The veiw was of the road but it was not as loud as I thought it maybe. There were 2 things as far as our room and stay that were not soo great. The bed was not the most comfortable and as crazy as it sounds I think there may have been a ghost thumping the floor near the window or closet... NEVER HAD THAT EXPERIENCE BEFORE ANYWHERE.. that could be a plus if your into ghosts. We also ate dinner it was kinda a mixed review... my husband's was not to his liking, mine was OK for steak but I am not sure it was up to the prices. They ended up serving our starters after the mains so that was kinda not ideal either... we did sit and have afternoon drinks after we walked to the Pantiles it's a little walk away but not too far. I was kinda between 3 stars and 4 because the meal did seem over priced ... the atmosphere was very country and Western... or Cowboy. The western saddle bar stools and covered wagon table were interesting. The decor was nice for the cowboy theme. The rooms seemed to be Indian related our room was the Mohawk room incase you was to see if the ghost will thump on the floor for you too.

Had a great meal out last night, the staff are all friendly, on the ball and helpful, the food was lovely, piping hot and great portions, I would highly recommend a visit here, thank you.

Had a cracking night out here, all the staff were friendly and very helpful, the whole place was very clean and well laid out. The beer was good and the food arrived well presented and piping hot and was very good value, we all had a fantastic time and will come again, thank you.

Sorry but this Smith and Western is so unpredictable. I stopped going when it really lost its way, then it seemed to have sorted itself out. I had a great meal here in March 2024 for example and gave it a glowing 5 star review. Tonight was disappointing again though. 7.15pm Friday. I had requested a booth when I booked and on arrival, one of the booths was free. But they didn't want to let us sit there at first because they wanted to close half of the front section and start laying it for breakfast! At 7.15pm on Friday! Unfortunately the food has slipped again. The "serves 2-3 Nacho Platter" £14.95 was more like a single portion and the plate was swimming in a strange yellow liquid. Mains were uninspiring: the Steak Fajitas was a small sliced steak on unsizzling seared veg, with mini tortillas, and the Rack of Ribs was tiny. There's usually a nice ambience, but I'm afraid it's off our list again. Might risk it again in 6 months, as it has so much potential.

So this is a cool place, had the steak and eggs and being a bit of a steak connoisseur I was not expecting much but it was delicious, good cut of sirloin which was cooked really well 👍🏻 service was superb, our waitress really did go the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

Been here a few times, it is what it is, good honest burgers, ribs, and alike with a wild west theme.(Google suggests it's a hotel, if it is I wasn't aware but not a bad location for one), Country & western music plays constantly, but not at an intrusive volume. The servers wear the obligatory cowboy hat & "western themed clothing" but are very good & attentive. I was surprised how quiet it was for Sunday lunch time, but it was very hot or maybe the good people of Tunbridge Wells prefer traditional Sunday roasts. Either way the food was good, including the puddings & the price not unreasonable. They were advertising live music, later in the month, I'm guessing country will be the genre.

Food great. Service was the best I've ever experienced. Summer, was just amazing. One snag was the girl in the afternoon who said there was nothing in the town is sadly very mistaken. Tunbridge Wells is a lovely town with loads of shops and an amazing coffee ally, the Pantiles. Top top place

We were visiting the Spa Valley Railway across the street and popped in here for a bite. Coming from Texas, it looks dang near identical to the restaurants from home. That alone gave us a great laugh. Food was pretty good.

Visited as part of a double anniversary and birthday. We had dinner, stayed the night in the rooms above the restaurant and had breakfast. Not one thing to fault with the food, service, location and overall staff. Dinner was amazing and breakfast was FREE as part of the hotel stay. Big shout out to Luke. Site is set in a lovely area with all kinds of local things to visit day or night.

Really nice bartender she was fab but the service at the table was were seemed under staffed forgot our food and it was freezing I went to complain however such a long wait. The guy was really sweaty, so he was off putting he was handling our food. I'm only doing two stars as bartender was so fun.

Just fab for an end of year family meal. Great variety of food. Something for everyone ... well something for all of us anyhow!

The music was that loud that we couldn’t hear each other on the same table and the waiter had to ask 3 times on one occasion what we’d like to order ! I understand that you want to aim for a wild and west atmosphere, very loud music simply isn’t a wild and west atmosphere as you mentioned

My family and I have frequented this establishment many times over the past few years. We have made use of both the restaurant and the hotel. Thanks the the quality of service offered by Dan and the rest of the team on every occasion, the quality of the food and the atmosphere we will be frequenting Smith and Western Tunbridge wells for years to come. Recommend as the best restaurant in Tunbridge Wells.

This place is such a lot of fun and such good value for money! The staff were fantastic (we were personally shown to our hotel room, which featured an abundance of complementary toiletries, snacks, and drinks, including a coffee machine) and the uniforms are brilliant! The bed was comfortable, the shower was amazing, and a cooked breakfast is included in your stay! We also got a discount on our evening meal on our day of arrival - food was lovely and the portions huge! The only slight negative is that the music was a little too loud in the evening, which made it hard to have a conversation. This was one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in and would 110% stay again.

The food was very expensive and mediocre. The staff were lovely but we probably wouldn't go again.

Slow service, overwhelmed due to event at nearby railway, under prepared. Waiting to be sat event though pre booked. Slow service. Waiter spilt orange juice on my lap, no apology and had no skills / ability to resolve the situation. Avoid.

Good food and very friendly service. We was served by Nicky Borrows and she was so friendly and welcoming especially to our 22 month old son. Food was tasty. Resturant was very busy and told would be a wait. But didn't have to wait to long

Staying here for 3 nights, breakfast service is terrible waiting a hour for breakfast, it's not even busy here, really let us down today

Great fast, friendly service, only 2 slight niggles: 1 a little too much sauce on my burger! It was a very strong (but nice) tasting sauce and it over powered the burger a little and 2: music was great but just a little too loud. We need a smith and western in Essex!!

Great food and very good decor.

We went for a birthday meal, ordered steak and it was nice but a bit on the dry side no juice what so ever, like they had been cooked and left dripping on a rack whilst the rest of the food was still being prepaired maybe. Their fries are really nice we all enjoyed those. Staff are very good, checked on you when passing and the wait for the food not too long although was a while. Puddings were very nice, better than alot of other places I have beem too, on the whole the meal was good everyone was satisfied and happy with what they had.

Invited here for a double birthday celebration. What a great experience. Staff were attentive, food was great, and the bill was less than expected.

Amazing we love this place, not only is the food amazing but the atmosphere and decor too , it's mine and my husbands favourite place to go and we took his daughter yesterday and it's now hers too , we have been twice now and both times we have had an amazing server called Karis , she is so lovely and makes our visits even better , on the way home my step daughter said "she is a really lovely lady" I can't praise the staff at the Smith and western enough especially Karis , we will be back for another visit very soon

Every time we go there it is excellent service food is ready quickly and always fresh and delicious.. in my experience the two servers in Tunbridge wells that shine the most is SUMMER & NICKY very friendly and always on hand great aura and a pleasure to speak to :) me and my son love it there! X

Very slow service and steak was really chewy. Very disappointed considering how much the bill was. Also, There were about 5 birthdays during my visit and the staff come out singing and banging instruments, it doesn't make for a relaxed dining experience.

We visited sometime ago and waited way too long for our food !. But my main complaint was that as usual the toilet was flooded , but this time I fell over after I recovered from a knee operation. I wrote to the manager complaining about this and the poor service we received that evening . I was offered a £30 voucher as a gesture which I accepted . I never received it ! They obviously aren’t interested in customer service which is a shame as we always use to come regularly but not no anymore .

Not the best, but average food. Atmosphere was good, staff friendly. Probably not visit again from the food side only. Disappointed.

The music playing outside is a big turn-away

Starters were fine although the order was incorrect and they cane out super quick which is always a slight concern. Mains were ribs and a burger and both were inedible. Didn’t have desert due to poor mains. Needless to say I would not recommend and certainly not return.

Absolutely lovely date night with my husband, food was incredible, staff were so kind,friendly and welcoming, love love love the theme and aesthetic ! My new favourite place , today was our first visit but will not be our last , also pleasantly surprised by the prices , we ordered loads and the bill was surprisingly good considering how much we had ! Me and my wife drove past here recently and decided to give it a go for date day, my god what an amazing choice. The food was incredible, like the best going so tasty, it definitely was the perfect place for a date and we will be returning regularly, the staff were beyond amazing and lovely, everyone seemed to be welcoming and wow the decor is incredible. For a first time it was pretty special and left an amazing impact, the price for what you get was incredible we ordered so much food and payed a brilliant price. Can’t recommend any more 10/10 keep it up Smith&Weston, you all are great

So disappointed by our meal here, can truly say this restaurant has gone down hill. Food was horrible my cousin had a chicken salad, lettuce tasted dirty, chicken was supposed to be grilled but yet had no grill markings and was a bit undercooked which she didn’t feel comfortable eating, I had a chicken quesadilla which was okay more sauce than chicken but wrap was bit cold still, overall meal was flavourless and nothing seemed fresh. Music was a bit repetitive and loud but staff and service was lovely really welcoming decor was on point. We will not be returning after our experience, would not recommend to anyone.

The place was empty, but all the customers were seat in the same area.. cold food. The ribs were dry, chips made 4 hours ago. The lady tried to be nice but I think she wasn’t happy to be there. We have been before and was absolutely better but now it is not worth it . Overpriced

Food ok not great but expensive for what you get some tables are stuck on the rear of building so feel out of the way of the main restaurant

Nice and quite stylish place. The food is surprisingly delicious. One minus is limp vegetables in salads, stale arugula and limp iceberg in Caesar salad. (maybe because it's Sunday evening) The portions are large. One New Yorker burger and a combo of ribs and wings were enough for three. Quite a large portion of onion rings. Excellent baked potatoes with bacon and cheese. Very tasty cocktails. Interesting presentation. The place is perfect for a holiday in company or with teenage children. Pleasant background music. The interior is perfectly decorated and stylized. And another interesting feature - having ordered a drink once (cola in our case), you can then refill it many times for free, like at a buffet. Conclusion - I recommend this place for friendly or family gatherings.

Fantastic meal, not just a restaurant, it’s an experience. From the moment you walk in, you are warmly welcomed. Staff are so attentive, helpful and friendly. From drinks in the bar to table service. Dinner and desserts were amazing. Fantastic place to take children. Loved watching the staff singing happy birthday with the bellybuster, they really go all out. We will definitely be going back.

Great place, atmosphere and food. Just didn't give 5 stars because fried eggs looked and tasted like joke plastic ones - very overcooked - but everything else great.

Visited to celebrate daughter’s 7th birthday, 4 adults 2 children. All the adults ate off the lunch menu which we all enjoyed. Staff kindly came out to surprise the birthday girl with a sparkler and song when we had our puddings which was a nice touch. The only negative I have always thought about this restaurant is the steep pricing and small child portion sizes, the restaurant is always half empty and I truly believe if they lowered prices and did offers it would bring in more business.

Love all things themed, so when I learned about this place online, I had to see it for myself. Checked in at 4pm, was very quick and easy and the staff member took us straight to our room. The room was brilliantly themed, sparkling clean, and had all the little amenities you'd expect. The ensuite shower was fantastic, and the complimentary shampoo and boday wash smelled lovely. We booked a table for dinner and the food was exactly as I expected, not the most daring of menus, but well cooked, tasty american fare. The service was exceptional, and the staff were all lovely. Slept like a log, yes you can hear the sound from the restaurant but after 10:30pm it was very quiet. Used the coffee machine in the morning which was much needed before we had breakfast in the restaurant. Breakfast was tasty, plenty of it and again, service was exceptional. The team that work at Smith and Western Royal Tunbridge Wells really know what they're doing in delivering that famous "american" hospitality, service with a smile. Nothing was too much of an ask, and they made us feel very welcome. The building is next door to the Spa Valley Railway, and I feel both businesses are missing a trick: they should consider doing some sort of Wild West Weekend package with a frontier themed train ride, followed by dinner at the Smith and Western! Anyway, would highly recommend a stay for anyone who loves themed attractions and stays! Will hopefully get back for a future stay!

Server - cowgirl summer - was absolutely amazing but service was quite slow. Food was very expensive for the quality, the ribs were very hard but decent enough veggie options.

Fun place to come with kids. Serving sizes are generous and food is decent and what you’d expect. Kids menu is excellent value with different pricing options depending on how hungry they are, and all include a dessert.

Decided to go for a birthday meal with my family, although i live some distance away it was well worth the drive, food was excellent, customer service was excellent and was well looked after from start to finish, will definitely be visiting again.

Five star service, great food as always

We did not stay here but came for a birthday meal which was absolutely shocking!! 3 meals all involving chicken of which 2 of them the chicken wasn't fully cooked!! On talking too a staff member we were given a £3 discount that was it!!! Absolutely no way I'll ever set foot back inside ever again

Absolutely horrendous steak! Would need a chainsaw to cut through it. Not chewable and lots of stringy fat. No flavour whatsoever. I’ve had better at wetherspoons for a third of the price. Fizzy drinks from the machine are very watered down. Had to eat my burger with a knife and fork because the bun fell apart into mush. Absolutely terrible place

I absolutely cannot believe that on a £6.95 child's meal the baked beans were served in a miniature paper cup that Macdonalds serve their ketchup in and my 83 Yr old mother gets passed her pills in at her care home!! There were other things but I think I will leave it there. Front of house guy, brilliant!
