One of the best halal fast food shops in Birmingham! Not sure why recent reviews are slating the prices and the lady working at the shop - the prices are still fairly cheap!

Updated April 2024 Honest and truthful review from a 15+ years customer - this place has been great and the go-to place until Brexit and then early 2022, (post covid lockdown/restrictions), where this place has just been going down. Prices gone up and smaller portion size. I totally understand inflation is going up, but the price no longer reflects on the portion size and the *standard* of food… For example, you get fish n chips in a small box now rather than wrapped up in paper. The chips have changed. Before, used to be more fluffy inside. Now, its slightly more waxy inside. Food not fresh/problems on MANY occasions; dark grey in chicken, kebab not cooked properly, grilled beef burger pre-made which is then placed back on the grill to re-heat = burnt, sausage lukewarm and smell off, *fish smelling off* on multiple occasions. My friend has said the same too. New staff, especially the lady, who consistently do not communicate well with their customers. I’ve never had any issues before covid. It’s a real shame. There are two positives: speed of service and their pizza. Pizza is good but they only give 1 chilli and 1 mayo for an extra large 12 slice pizza??? *They now accept card payments but do not really advertise it* Smethwick Fish Bar need to seriously up their game.

I know inflation is high and cost of living has increased. Either keep the portion size the same and increase the price or keep the price the same and decrease the portion size. This place seems to have increased the price and decreased the portion size. I dont know if the guy that served me was new but when you can count 3 strands of donner meat for a large portion something is wrong. It wasnt even a one off, all of our order was the same. If you just want a decent portion for your money, then avoid this place. If you want to pay higher prices for a decreased portion, then continue to use this place. Seriously disappointed 😞

I got food poisoning from here. Don’t go. The chicken they serve is old and stale

Always busy with countless offers at affordable prices... the que can be long, so be prepared to wait.

Food is usually really good but today it was cold and dry and obviously old Won't be ordering from them again

Been coming to the shop for over a year and generally pop in always on route from London and Oxford on my way back one heading north. Today was one two pieces of chicken n chips normally is a best n a leg and I got two legs literally as you opened at dinner time today 12pm. I was going to come back in but it went in the bin round the corner chips were nice as always but the chicken looked very, very poor I did taste some no usual juice so it says something I won't be stopping to the shop anymore . Shame really always rated the place

The chips were really nice but the battered sausage was that inedible the dog didn't even want it . Usually I have the pie and chips which is the best in Smethwick this has really let it down

I ordered food after a very long time and honestly since my childhood i used to visit this chippy all the time but recently it has gone really downhill. The chicken i ordered looked very old and the meat was very dark and pinky looked awful also the quality in food is very bad. It really made my stomach turn during the night made me sick. Really wouldn’t recommend this place at all guys.

I was hesitant about coming after seeing other google reviews but personally thought the food was FANTASTIC. The chips were well cooked, lovely and soft. The doner meat was really tasty. Plus to top if off their prices were soooo cheap!!

Absolutely appalling service! They clearly got doner chicken & chips advertised on front window for £2.99 and when I ordered it he said £3.50? When I questioned him he said we changed the prices last week? Surely this is not right, u cant advertise food and than charge different prices!!!

Dear friend, I want to share my experience of fis chiken bar last week I was there on friday I ordered chiken chip horrible service nesimpatyick personal cold food and the next day I went all day to stutter I do not recommend there to buy food at all do not appreciate no customers at all no smile honesty just their hung arrogance and audacity I've certainly been there the last time and I'd rather avoid them just so you know what awaits you when you enter the store no nice smile or sincerity of the sellers

BAD - DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE This shop doesn't accept card/contactless payments. I ordered 3 chicken fillet burger meals for £10.50. The staff member who served me was rude (chubby young lad wearing blue t-shirt) and angrily took customer orders not just mine. Slow order times as I had to wait over 20 minutes for my food and they said 10 minutes. The chicken fillets in the burger were undercooked and they had a rubbery texture to them with each bite.
