Smash Cow in Cherwell

Just down at Banbury Fair and called in Lock 29. My wife had a Spicy vegan burger with fries. She say's it was delicious ( we've been here a few times and it's always excellent). We'll be back again.

Best tasting burger I’ve had in a while. Excellent quality and had vegan bun for my wife. As an American, I know great burgers and this is one. Definitely will visit again.

Wow.. we have been trying to visit try out all the amazing food in Lock 29. Today we went to Smash Cow and it was amazing. So tasty, all freshly cooked. We're going to be regulars here..

Very mediocre food, tasteless and way overpriced for what you get. Very disappointing

First visit here, Super tasty burger & fries, all cooked fresh to perfection in a good timely manner. Had the double smashed burger with extra bacon which was really nice, as were the fries. The young blonde lady serving was really pleasant & friendly too. Would definitely eat here again if in the area. Keep up the good work 👍

Food might be nice but didn't get that far. Just left stood at the counter repeatedly ignoring us.

Amazing food and it was ready before we could find a seat

(This has a happy ending!) Had seen this on the web for some time. But I am disabled and can't just easily rock up at a venue in town. Had a friend in for the evening. Many phone conversations with Smash Cow about where they were, could we book online, could we do our own collection....etc. In the end, we did. I parked up. My mate crossed over the canal bridge, picked up our food and we drove back to mine. Superior! The burgers were delicious and the fries survived the drive back home still crispy and warm! Another, earlier, reviewer said, "Best burger outside NYC!" (That's where my brother lives!) I love and echo the sentiment. Treat yourself!

Definitely smashed the burger, it was very good. I had the double with bacon and cheese. tasty, juicy, and succulent. Fries are good side compliments, too. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Not a good experience. Took 2 hrs and 15 minutes to arrive. Arrived Luke warm so had to microwave. Fries chewy and at £4 for a handful that's just not good enough. Bacon was thicker than the burger so what should be the star of the show got lost in the mix. Don't think I would be smashing the "order again" button any time soon.

Majority of the time the burgers are very good, occasionally when it’s quite busy you will get one made a bit slap dash and very greasy. Also a lot of the time they will open late, closer to 1 o’clock than 12 which is stated on the Lock29 website so sometimes I’ll go there on my lunch only to have to get something else.

Feel like they don’t even have enough money to put sauce on both sides of the bun.... It was dry as hell and I can toast a bun and get a patty from aldi myself

Very average and not value for money. Overcooked patty. Very disappointing.

What more can you want! A small burger shack down a side road in the centre of town. Walked in ordered the 6oz burger and waffle fries. I was served amazingly quickly and sat in the window seats. Both were piping hot and delicious. I shall be coming back next time I'm in town!

It's kinda nice but the meat was over cooked and crispy and squashed to the point of a hole in the middle throwing the balance of the meat to cheese, pickle and condiments off. I think I'd miss this in future and save my £6. Shame had before and was much better, possibly a victim of Tory greed hitting the pockets of sml business but honestly it was still overcooked.

Lovely burgers and always consistently good. Lovely soft buns and delicious sauce and pickles. Generous portions of chips as well which is great.

Best food in town. My favourite is the Biscoff burger (UNREAL) and the fries with all the yummy stuff on top! Seriously if you haven’t been you have to try it

I always find the menus very clear at the counter and also on all social media. The burgers are excellent on those menu’s also which is great because they do great burgers to eat. Thoroughly recommend checking the counter and all other media if you want a great burger to actually eat😉

The best burger in Banbury! Smash cow smashed it! My burger was really well cooked with crispy bits of beef all around it, the cheese and bun were perfect and so were the chips. Amazingly different from anyone else around here. I personally wish there was an option for tomatoes and onion. In my opinion it was much better than OGS and way more worth the price. Well done smash cow.

Wow! This burger is so delicious! Great beef :) Good soft seeded bun, yummy burger sauce, pickles and cheese. The staff are so friendly and welcoming too :)

Amazing. Best beef burger I’ve had in a long time! Service was great and really keen to serve and seem genuinely interested in my trade. Got the double bacon cheese and fries it didn’t come out too quick which I was happy about and made me feel like my order was made from scratch not just another burger from a conveyor, super juicy and delicious. the fries were crispy and hot too. Had to go and say thanks after eating it was so good. Thanks Jack and Joey be seeing you soon.

I had the double bacon cheeseburger with extra everything plus fries. It was one of the best burgers I've had for ages. Sensational tastes and the fries were like home cooked ones. Highly recommended.

Wasn't sure what to have, so asked them to make me something amazing, and boy did they deliver! Best burger I've had in ages!

Nick Smilie Again! Google doesn't allow multiple reviews. So i've hijacked the partners phone.... You are a saucy little thing aren't you? This time I tried the Spicey Chorizo Burger. After my first time trying Smash Cow, I wanted to take my second experience a little slower. However, once I slowly opened the packaging the aroma hit my nose. Different smells coming at me from every angle. First the freshly baked bun and then smoky, garlicky, paprika of the chorizo. At this point I was ready to commit a sin. I slowly parted the bun edging closer to the holy grail, I took a long inhale which sent shivers down my spine. Carefully lifting it to my lips. I whispered God forgive me for what I’m about to do. With one bite my mouth was in overdrive. The heat from the sauce just perfect, The garlic from the chorizo, The beefiness from the burger. Loudly moaning I took another bite. I had made it! I had finally found happiness in a burger. I really wanted to take it slow but as per normal I didn’t last long. Leaning back in my chair with sauce dipping off my beard. I wiped my mouth with a tissue muttering “That was amazing”. The heat and flavour of the sauce was still present in my mouth. Oh, my saucy little thing, I will return for you! When it comes to fast food, a lot of people claim that McDonald's has the best fries. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but they are wrong. Burger King is better; however, Wendy’s are better than burger king. Then you throw Five Guys fries into it and that tops them all. Then came along Smash Cow. Why do this to me! I was happy with Five Guys fries. Your chucky, perfectly salted skin on fries are what dreams are made of. Best fries I’ve tasted. Again, the meal was amazing. It filled the gap and more. Had a bacon triple and fries. Fries were good, nice and crispy. The burger was very very good indeed. Well cooked, bun was toasted nicely. A good amount of pickles, bacon and cheese. You get what you pay for. Good job guys. Will recommend.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have been to the Great Wall of China, I have seen the Pyramids of Egypt, I've even witnessed a grown man satisfy a camel. But until today I have never experienced a burger like that. Wendys, Five Guys, In&Out, Sonic havent got nothing on what I've just tasted. Oozing with meat juice. The bacon was crispy and hard. Bun was nice and soft. You can tell I'm excited by this. My only regret was not taking a photo of it however don't know if I would have been able to upload it as it would be NSFW. Fries are the best in town as well! Unlike other fast food joints i actually feel like I've eaten a decent meal! I will return and will need a new belt in the future Overall that was a taste sensation

Went for the Bacon Cheeseburger recently, my Dad picked up a New Yorker, we waited a little bit longer than expected, considering it seemed quite quiet, but it was a great burger. The beef these guys use is really good, loved the cooking technique, really beefy and savoury burger. I'd definitely have another once I've tried some of the other stuff in Lock 29. Staff were nice, chatty and friendly. It's your classic expensive burger place, but you do get what you pay for. So when you're feeling flush, Smash Cow is worth a visit.

Called in for lunch on a trip to Banbury. What can I say, one of the best if not the best burger I have had anywhere in the world. Quick service quality food great value for money. Yes more expensive than you normal burger joint. But you simply can not compare.

Very tasty burger. Double cheeseburger doesn't look that big, but is filling. Fries ok, but next time I'm getting just the burger.

At the end of my shift today at Lock29 I grabbed myself a tasty looking vegan burger from the smash cow team! Even though they were minutes from closing they were still more than happy to feed a huge fry vegan Really tasty, excellent service and speed ✊

Expensive for what you get. Burgers are dry and nothing to write home about. Poor selection of drinks.

Tried for the first time today, absolutely spot on. Bun quality was excellent really held up against the fillings which collectively created an incredible experience in my mouth, which usually only happens down dark alleyways at 3am. Would definitely order again, great delivery time and everything was hot and built well!

Travelled from Sheffield to try this place out! Didn't disappoint! Patties were juicy, n perfectly seasoned, bread fresh, perfect bread to meat to topping ratio! Also had the smash fries, lovely hot n crispy with tasty toppings!

Really dry no cheese burned no onions of salad just dry and a massive blob of ketchup will never eat here again

I've had Smash Cow twice and both times the taste has been great, can't fault the quality of meat and the fries. The 2nd time the patty was a touch on the dry side but I defiently don't expect an entirely pink centre from a thin burger. My only gripe was time only because I thought that thinner burger were quicker to cook. I recognise the size of the units in Lock29. Price wise, well I don't eat out often enough to have an honest comparision, but I'm only interested in the burger so cheesy fries or something doesn't really appeal to me. I do recommend a visit though. Edit (20/12/2021): I went to Oxford, ended up at "Five Lies", and WOW, what horse feed. I've revised my rating of Smashcow on the basis of actually having fat (thus flavour) in the meat. I haven't the foggiest idea why people still choose these big companies that produce such terrible food, brain dead!

This place is amazing! We have wished for ages that a Five Guys would open in Banbury - but this place is better. We always get the cheese and bacon burgers delivered - always perfect, hot and delicious! The chips are also the best I’ve ever had!

Just had there Cheeseburger. Absolutely tasty, hard pressed to find a better one anywhere else. Friendly service too.

Called in at Smash Cow had double bacon cheese burger plus vegan burger. Vegan burger was the best Ann has tasted well presented too, the double bacon cheese burger was delicious but needs to be in a similar size bun to match the size of the patty, all in all a little pricey but very tasty.

Wow just wow....not sure what else to say.....both me and my wife had the double bacon cheese burger. We both agree that has to be one of the best burgers we have ever had in our life.....

The best cheeseburger ever!! No messing about, I have even been part of a team of 4 who spent a fortune on a burger “research” trip to NYC a couple of years back (#notajolly) this place rocks, go now! (*Check it’s open first!) also check out the fabulous nori shed for their mega Pokè bowls!

Really impressed with the burger and loaded fries. Excellent flavour and quality. I was staying in the hotel next door so just had takeaway, which worked well as the venue was a little empty (Thursday night). They definitely succeed in their mission of bringing the London quality burger joint to Banbury. If you are into burgers (dirty/smashed patty 5 guys style) I would definitely recommend.

This little food place inside lock29 is a gem! Me and the children love coming here for a weekend treat! Burgers are absolutely amazing, juicy and full of flavour I highly recommend the Biscoff burger, might sound crazy but it is so so good! Also the spicy burger is another favourite. The chips are also delicious and have a really nice coating on them. You won’t be disappointed!

We came for food and I have to say first impressions last a very good burger not cheap though.

£6 for a vegan patty on the pricey side considering the beef is an extra 50p but was tasty and fresh. Would have given 4* if the price was around £3.95 from my travelled culinary experience.
