Si no has estado, ve y encuéntralo, no te decepcionará.

I set out to find The Small Food Bakery a couple of weeks ago, and I failed, miserably! I was driving slowly, by myself, with Sat Nav confidently asserting that I had reached my destination and cars hooting behind me, urging me to make my mind up and either park up or move off! I chose the latter and drove home, dejected. I should have read the SFB's very helpful website before setting off. If I had done, I would have known exactly where to find this gorgeous little bakery. My husband offered (for the price of a pint of yummy ale at the Organ Grinder!) to drive me there, just to scope it out, and this turned out to be money very well spent!

We visited on Saturday morning and were served by friendly staff. We brought a breakfast sourdough, a selection of pastries, coffee and marmalade. We liked how things we made with local ingredients and that local ingredients were available to buy. We liked how there were sweet and savoury pastries. I particularly enjoyed the cinnamon roll. The breakfast sourdough was well fired and full of fruit. The coffee was disappointing, but we loved everything else. Seating area available though it was very warm in there as can be expected in a bakery!

Small Food Bakery is stunning. The care and attention to detail that have gone into it is clear from the food, quality drinks, preserves and "bread accessories" that you can buy. I've had bread and pastries from there - all delicious! - with Radford Wild and the beetroot sourdough firm favourites. Their method of baking using slow fermentation means that I've been able to eat things like pain au chocolat and croissants after years of having to avoid bread and pastries.

This morning we caught the bus to Ilkeston Road where we fell out at Seely Road and into a little part of heaven called the Small Food Bakery What a little gem of a place. We sat and ate breakfast literally in the bakery watching the sour dough bread being prepared and baked -- breakfast incidentally was cheese croissant, lemon hazelnut biscuit, and a slice of the most heavenly chocolate and coffee cake that has ever been made on this planet (cannot speak for the others! :) ) with tea and coffee. We came home with a huge bag of goodies to enjoy later -- cheese and thyme sourdough bread, heavily fruited breakfast sourdough bread (dates. apricots, seeds etc) sausage rolls, cardamom lemon buns, brioche doughnut, orange and poppyseed biscuits , spinach pizza and sundried and olive pizza. See you there?

I had a very warm welcome and sat and had a coffee and the most amazing doughnut I have ever eaten, including homemade damson jam. My husband and I were so pleased that we popped in today and discovered the bread, pizza and rhubarb slice in this scrumptious local bakery. Totally unpretentious, heartfelt and exquisitely prepared - and so much more reasonable in price than any of the 'fresh' breads we have tried in most (if not all local) supermarkets. Seriously good quality bread, it looks delicious and it is delicious. I've been ordering bread for the past 3 weeks and I'm addicted to the breakfast sourdough, the fruit in it makes it tasty to eat on its own, but makes a simple ham & cheese sandwich extraordinary. This week’s treat was Level 3 Student Chefs revealing their research trip to Finland in 6 flavour packed courses. From barbequed mushrooms in a liquorice inspired sauce, braised venison rather than reindeer, crawfish and pickles, soft celeriac in a sweet pool of soup, a stunning bright turquoise blueberry dessert with a mirror finish and a take on the Finnish speciality Easter egg – solid, but soft chocolate, served in a real egg shell and box! WOW who knew the Finnish knew flavours and having fun with food. All that for under £30.

Having ordered my meal with my family, I asked to use the restroom. I was advised that it was out of order and I could go to the library third floor. The walk turned out to be 0.8 miles there and back, taking me 25 minutes by the time I returned. By the time I got back my family had finished their meals and my tea stewed. When I spoke to them they told me that I did not have to go to the library and I could o f gone to a neighboring business if I did not want to walk that far. They refused to refund my meal. As an elderly tourist who did not know the town, this was not a good introduction to Nottingham. I’m not a fan of negative reviews but this was a poor way to treat a customer

After a really good experience I opted to go again with my mum and ordered the delicious lamb chops and also had the most amazing fully loaded brownies i’ve ever had.
