Slice of India in Derby

The worst thing is manners of staff. The receptionist ethics and professionalism was so bad, said you need to make your daughter stand to the line drawn on wall to prove she is less than 150 cm (to prove she is a child). Despite me saying happy to pay adult price as I didn’t wanted my daughter to feel she is short, still despite my request, when my daughter passed the counter, he said definitely over 150 cm, it was embarrassing. The food was also very average. After this recaption, I am not going back there.

Anywhere that caters for such a large amount of people en masse will be restricted to some degree in the quality it can offer. Here it is blatantly obvious that the focus is the bums on seats rather than the food on offer. Starters were dry and bland. Curries lacked meat and were mainly gravy, plus a couple of bones. Naan was bland, and the staff were touching them with their bare hands. Desserts were reasonable if a bit sorry looking. Overall, a poor experience. We won’t be going back.

Indian Buffet.. Serrvice was lovely, no doubt in that. But value for money no. Compared to other buffets in town and nearby, there are opportunities to improve both in a variety of food and also the ambiance. Desserts, the best Rasamalai we had, which you can't find in other buffets. Suggestion to management would be, you should definitely think about including prawns and mutton biryani to the buffet.

We went at 5pm on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy but by 7pm it was getting busy .First time there and was impressed. The food was lovely and big selection, also plenty of vegetarian options .Stuck to Indian food but Chinese and English options available although not as many .Tried a little bit of all the starters some I liked and some I didn't but it was cooked to perfection. Had lamb curry not too spicy and the lamb just melted .Good selection of curries .There were pizzas,chips,chicken nuggets ,stir fry if you didn't do Indian. There was a selection of desserts so tried a bit of all the Indian ones but found them too sweet for me .Best of all was a Mr whippy ice cream machine which was help yourself .For all those with big appetites you could go and help yourself as many times as you want in the 2 hour times lot your alloted .Nice bar that you can get alcohol from and a nice seating area to sit and enjoy .Overall I think it was good value for money and would go again .

Perfect! Great staff great food too much to explain but there wasn't anything I tried that was not nice. You fill up fast so be careful! The owner spoke to us and told us about his business ect...very friendly.

Excellent Asian food with Chinese and English food sprinkled in. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the Restaurant , the staff and reception staff are friendly. I have been here quite a few times , we travel down from Sheffield and I have never had a bad experience

It was appalling to see quarter plates kept near the main course buffet area rather than a standard size plate. the plate size was so small that one could barely take more than 2 dishes at a time. When I asked the reason, I was told that it was to reduce food wastage. Reducing food wastage by giving half the size of a plate in a buffet restuarant defeats the purpose of hospitality, convinience and even basic courtesy to be given to a guest. There can be other polite ways to do that but to go to such a measure totally ruined my experience. Additionally., the food quality has gone down. The veg main course curries were not to a good taste.

The food was well below standard. An overwhelming taste of cardamom on some of the starters. Tried the panner tikka starter it was like eating small square bullets!!! The main courses were underwhelming too tried the lamb curry and the meat was chewy. The desserts somewhat rescue the situation but they are just OK. The staff members were all great very attentive and welcoming. All in all I don't think its worth it as the food is substandard.

Went last night for a friend’s 30th celebration and there was around 40 of us. The table was dirty with only a fork and a spoon set up. As for the food, was absolute garbage especially considering it was £40 for two of us on a Friday evening(!!!) plus a pint and a coke for £8. The food was tasteless and the curries reminded me of the Uncle Ben’s out-of-a-jar stuff. Though it was admittedly edible enough for me to have a feed plates trying to try out everything, I ended up leaving a fair bit of it on my plate. The environment was crowded and screaming kids everywhere. If you want a decent, relaxing meal then Slice of India is really not where you ought to go.

Kind of Indian buffet restaurant I was looking since long and finally search completed.

Only complain we were charged extra 6 quid but still not returned the money even after contacting them.

While the food is exceptional, it's worth mentioning that the interior appears a bit dated and could benefit from a refresh to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal. Despite this minor observation, Slice of India remains a go-to spot for a lovely dining experience with great food. I look forward to future visits and more culinary delights!

Food was varied and good quality. The Young lady clearing our table Regika ? (not sure how you spell it) was an absolute star, a credit to your restaurant.

I went to slice of india on saturday and the food was awful. It was cold, the pizza was barely edible and the curry was watery and tasteless. Not to mention the appalling service. When I complained to a member of staff they were hostile and very very rude. I will not be returning again and this place really should consider shutting down!!

Came up to see friends and popped in here on a Friday night, and it was excellent. Big, open plan restaurant with a huge variety of Indian food including some stuff you rarely see- the chefs seem to know what they are doing! Staff really nice including the manager who made us feel welcome and explained the system well. I'd really recommend this place for groups and I can see it would be good for parties too.

Amazing food, amazing place with wonderful staff.

We arrived ten minutes before our booking and we're seated immediately. Very lovely girl on reception who explained how it worked. The server arrived promptly to take our drinks orders, then we tried the starters. Most were fabulous, my favourite was the chilli cauliflower - outstanding! Hubby loved the chickpeas. All were hot, and starters were being replenished as they got low. They don't appear to do a massive quantity each time, which makes sense if you want to keep the quality of the food. For my taste, the paneer had far, far too much cardamom and it was unpleasant to eat. The mains were very good. Hubby had the lamb dishes and he was very happy with the quality of the meat. He also had the fish curry which he enjoyed. Both of us were hugely impressed with the rice, but felt the naan was a little dry. The Vege curries were great, especially the saag aloo! Wow! However, again the paneer was dominated by far too much Cardamom rendering it inedible. The fresh noodles were outstanding. The chef cooking did it to absolute perfection! He was polite and friendly, as we're all of the staff. Desserts were plentiful, lots to choose from. Highly recommend the Gulab Jamon and the mango rice pudding- luscious! I really felt compelled to write a positive review as the previous reviews seem very unfair. For a buffet , this is fantastic! Of course there are some dishes that weren't outstanding/ not at all to my taste, but there were loads that were. For what we ate, and the excellent, friendly service we received, this was incredible value. We both left very, very full and very happy. This is the first time we have eaten here and will definitely return and recommend. Hubby is British Indian and over half the diners in tonight we're Asian origin, so I'm not sure at all where the other reviewer was eating at?

Great all you can eat, food is a good standard and the service was great when we were there last week. Staff were attentive and polite, a few of them engaging (the baby always helps drawn people in for interactiond) Credit to the staff.

Went Christmas day, the only meats available were Lamb Chop or sliced Turkey, the only vegetables were Brussels, Carrots and Sweetcorn, Christmas pudding available but no Brandy sauce, unlimited soft drinks once you have a glass, all the usual Indian, Chinese and stir fry dishes available,Large Car park is full of potholes creating large Puddles when raining and no white lines, quick service and friendly helpful Staff.

Prices are great on New years Eve, as is the service & and quality/variety of food. Authentic Indian cuisine, which easily surpasses other buffet style restaurants we've eaten at. Child friendly options available too (we're not Indian) which are reminiscent of the kids counters at buffet style restaurants in holiday hotels. The entertainment is also fab and keeps the kids occupied (within eyesight) just what you need while the DJ does a grand job of getting everyone up and moving - ready for the big countdown!! Complimentary fizz on entry and paid but refillable soft drinks on tap are the cherry on the cake - on that note, dessert wasn't bad either! Apple crumble, chocolate fountain and real dairy ice cream machine were the best but there was also an array of Indian sweets & some fresh fruits on offer. Great shout 👏 👌 👍 we'll be back next year for the third in a row

We've had a fantastic meal out at Slice of India! We took our 14 month old Daughter, who had a highchair provided. There was plenty of food, which was constantly re filled. You are absolutely spoilt for choice for Starters, Mains and Dessert. The staff were all very attentive and friendly, constantly taking empty plates and refilling drinks. Thank you for a lovely dining experience!

Treated my fella to birthday meal for first time for both of us, loved the tuk tuk in entrance, took photos after meal. Great relaxin atmosphere, great food & choice of food & service by a young lady called Regvita. Will definitely be back.

My first visit to this restaurant, the atmosphere is good with service, the taste of food is below average, they need to name the restaurant as slice of Engl*nd, all the items were soo sweet, my first experience here with chicken manchuria which is so sweet, the items were disaster i never suggest indians to visit this restaurant, the quality of food is below average, the starters and main course have sweet flavor which tastes sweet.

I used to love going here, despite living an hour away. This was our first visit for some time, though, and I think it was probably our last. The quality of the food is really poor now. It's just not worth the cost and the long journey. The staff were brilliant. Service was good. The starters were nice. Desserts were also alright but there's very little to choose from now. The chocolate they now use in the chocolate fountain is awful. Really cheap and nasty. The stir-fry was burnt but undercooked. The guy didn't use enough oil and didn't cook it for long enough. The curries were really bad. The sauce is alright, but the meat was awful. One contained only bones and bits of skin. No actual meat. The others had really chewy, rubbery pieces of chicken. The lamb was just fat. They were really horrible. How can you eat that? The curries are the main meals and they can't use proper meat. And that's what you're paying for. I don't know why businesses cut back like this because why on earth would anyone go again after a poor meal like that? Whenever we used to go here, you'd always see lots of Indian families in large groups, but I don't recall seeing any on this occasion. That speaks volumes. I don't think it's worth the hour's drive for us anymore, so we'll give this a miss in future. Which is a shame because it used to be amazing.

I love the food here it's lush and a have it a a treat a thew times a year. It may seem expensive but it is 100 percent worth every penny.

Great value for money. It's cheaper mid week. Good food, the curries all good, not a surprise as this is the main focus, the other options are a bit more ordinary chinese or pizza, but gives an option for those that aren't curry lovers. Very busy and quite noisy when we went, a Friday evening a few weeks before Xmas. Definitely worth a visit. 4 of us with drinks £110

Dishes hit and miss. I prefer the starters rather then the mains as I feel they are not overly flavoursome. Noodles are nasty! Great selection of desserts. Definitely give this place a go as you will definitely find something that you will like. Service is excellent!

Gone downhill. Staff on reception were lovely and welcoming. Served drinks quickly and again staff were polite and overall good. Food was awful. Starters were dry and tasteless. We had 4 curries and none were that great. We had been before over a year ago and has really enjoyed it but the food was nowhere near as good. It always did feel a bit like a canteen but had been ok when food was good. Unless reviews improve we would not go back.

Great place to have some lovely Indian food. Buffet style and help yourself all fresh and lots of choice. The place does get very busy noisy. Staff great and tables cleared every min. Great prices weekdays 18.95 set menu prices bit more at the weekend . Plenty of parking out the back

Buffet style dinner, and in taste its 9/10. Its ambience is amazing. It has Indian 🇮🇳 style auto rickshaw 🛺 near gate giving Mumbai touch. Slice of India has delicious desserts especially Gulab Jamun.

I am not sure about the food . I ordered through Uber eats and and they took the money and after 30 minutes they cancelled the order. When I call them they are saying we not not preparing/ processing Uber eats order. My question is if you can’t fulfill the uber eats orders then why are are not removing yourself from Uber eats?

Not impressed, everything is spicy and the English section had 2 slices of pizza and chicken with chips, bit anti-English if you ask me. I paid 70 quid just to try and find the exit

Took my husband and the family here for his birthday , there was something for everyone, and my husband who is a curry addict loved everything he tried . Its an all you can eat buffet, predominantly Indian food , there is also a small noodle bar, small pizza/chicken bar and an Asian/English dessert bar . Food and drinks (refillable sodas) for 11 of us came to £237.00. Alcohol is also available.

Great food, lots of choice for all ages and preferences. Nothing wrong with the service whatsoever. A bit more music or authentic atmosphere would have been good but our booking was early in the evening.

The food is better at the weekends ,we went in the week and the food was poor.

Lovely food, however would have been nice to have a Spicer option such as a balti, vindaloo or madras. The Currys on offer was almost the same butter chicken, chicken masala ect, the food was cooked lovely and the staff was amazing I haven't been here since before COVID as we relocated to Leicester so it was a travel for us 😊 great team of staff x

Great for a sit down however do don't try to order a takeaway. I've attempted to order on 3 occasions and every time the order is cancelled after 20 minutes. Either offer a delivery service or don't.

First time and last time I will come here. First issue was parking I needed a disabled space and cars and a van were using them without a badge displayed. The staff were very nice and showed us to our tables amd explained what to do. Table was disgraceful dirty and basic with a napkin and a spoon and fork, where was the knife ???? The bench was falling to pieces and wobbly. The food was dire the onion bhajis were dry and Luke worm. The rice was dry the curries although had about 8 different dishes I was disappointed there was no madras. The chips were also luke warm and when I asked for salt he showed me the ketchup. To sum it up the place is in urgent need of redecorating, a good clean and the food quality requires huge improvement.

Amazing array of food . Lots to choose from and all very good quality. It is child friendly , with baby seats and baby changing. There are accessable toilets and hygiene is excellent. Would definitely visit again.

I was a regular few years back. Went back after like 3 years and food was not good like before, the live cooking staff dont listen to what you ask for. Basically its not like it used. From sauces to starters to over all food is not great like it used to be. Service and atmosphere hasnt changed much. Slice of india you were the best you really need to bring us back the old food. I was dissapointed on my last visit.

Our first visit and we absolutely loved it. So much to choose from and cooked to perfection. Personally i enjoyed the dessert section just a shame i was so full from the starters and mains. Really great value would definitely recommend

Horrible oily food -curry’s all bland with a puddle of oil on top . Better off going to akbars for authentic Indian food.
