We’ve been using Skippers for about a year now and, hallelujah! We’ve found southern fried chicken better than anywhere else. Thank you so much for always delivering to us as we’re in Redbourn, it’s always fresh hot and blooming good. I hope this doesn’t mean they’ll be none left for us! Thank you so much 💯

Stopped by back in February 2024 while visiting a friend in Harpenden. Personally I'm from Alabama in the US, so I'd like to add whatever credit that gives when I say these guys make great fish. I had the standard cod and chips and I've wanted something like it ever since I've come back home. Very much worth the price, service was speedy.

I mean its standard fish&chips but for £10.10! That is way too expensive for normal fish&chips. So for me a no, i will go further to the next shop which also offer a lunch special for £6.

Ordered over an hour in advance for 20:15 got delayed to 20:35 but still got it later than that! The medium chips was not a medium chips much to small a portion!

Food was on the cool side when delivered. Had better chips from them before.

We ordered a delivery which turned up on time , nice and hot . Batter to fish nice and crispy, chips not at all greasy . If you have not used them give them a try , don't think you will be disappointed.

Food arrived fairly quickly, during what I would have considered to be the rush hour so was quite surprised. However had to throw most of it away. Food was cold, cods and onion rings saturated in so much oil they were falling apart like crumbs and dripping like they had been dumped in a can of paint, cod’s and saveloys tasted a bit odd, didn’t even attempt to finish them. Over £60 worth of food, and stomach aches all the next day from what little we ate. Not happy - demanding a refund.

Lovely fish and chip shop in Southdown. Helpful and polite staff and a great range of food on the menu. Also great value for money.

Consistently good food although sometimes you are waiting longer than you'd want to. Josè the owner is always very friendly and will always say hello. The doner meat and chips is excellent! My only complaint would be their sausages are of the very cheap catering variety.. I personally wouldn't mind paying extra for a decent quality sausage.

Had an issue with an order, but Hose, very promptly fixed things for us. Fab customer service and even better food!

Best place to eat all food amazing

Ordered food but it didn’t arrive. Called them around 20 times and they didn’t answer or hung up. Rubbish service. Do not use.

Update: Went last night and the chips were sublime and I came away with everything I ordered. Upgrading my rating.

Definitely won't order from here again. So far waited 1 and a half hours , still waiting and been told still another 15 minutes.

Food we had was very good. 2nd time that the chips we ordered were missing.

One job, deliver what was ordered. No salt and vinegar on chip portions. Why have the option of it’s going to ignored!? Burger was plain, photo shows salad, cheese etc… was simply a dry bun and dry burger. When spending money on food we expect to at least get the order right. However they won’t get another chance as we will never spend money at this establishment again.

Awful unfriendly service and the system doesn’t work . They take your order , you pay and then wait . So you expect the queue of ordered to be processed in order - no chance - totally random and frustrating . Then the order is repeated cos they can’t trust/read the receipt . You cannot rely on the fact that you will get what you ordered. Quality is average - skin on all three fish and not very meaty . Chips soft , mushy peas are good . Not recommended particularly if they are busy.

I do not expect to pay delivery of £3.00 for a hour or so wait .when the takeaway is a five minute walk from me .I'm shocked I have to pay delivery when they set there minimum delivery order at £20. I would have always given 5 stars but last 2 delivery have been 1 star I will not be using again.

Absolutely shocked after ordering tonight. I tried tonight and last night to order a delivery and on the checkout on their website it read sorry but no more orders can be taken. I rang them to double check and the woman told me it's OK there end, clearly not if it was telling me that on ordering. She took my order for delivery and said she'd send me a link to pay for it. I had to ring and ask where the link was being sent too. It had just then been sent by text so I paid for the order. The food arrived and they asked my husband at the door if it had been paid for, which I replied yes I've paid for it on the link sent. The food arrived and a curry roll was missing and the savaloys were hard and like rubber. I rang them to inform them and my god did she have an attitude! She wanted to argue with me after I complained about the savaloys being hard and like Rubber. she said I only ordered 2 vegetable ones. I listened back to the order and I clearly said 1 vegetable and 1 curry after she told me they don't just do curry ones and told me they're chicken and curry. So after ordering the 1 vegetable and one curry I said make it 2 vegetable ones too. I didn't say don't bother with the curry one but she took it upon herself to cancel the curry one and just stick the vegetables ones through. I replayed the order and it's exactly what I said. Then she told me she didn't charge me for delivery so that makes up for the savaloys. 1. It wasn't my fault you forgot to add delivery as you're the one who sent me the bill to pay and 2, why does that make it OK that the savaloys I ordered covered them not adding delivery! I won't ever order from here again until they get staff in that don't want to blame customers for their mistakes. Absolutely shocking service. You can only guess where I'd want to stick those Rubber savaloys after this 🤬

Items missing on order tried calling, no reply

It was also missing the curry sauce. So not a good experience. So with a £4 delivery charge and missing items it over £6 extra. Will be a long time before we think of using again

Atmosphere in a chippy is hard to star. But the food is good the people are friendly.

Parking outfront and large carpark out back. Best fish and chips in harpenden. Quick service. Food is delicious. Large menu to choose from. Good price. Clean shop all staff are lovely.

Tonight we enjoyed a really good meal from Skippers. In my opinion think they cook the best southern fried chicken and my other half really enjoyed his kebab. Food from here is always hot, plentiful and delicious. Delivery is always earlier than stated and by really nice guys. They offer good value for money and have never let us down. Would highly recommend.

the fish batter didn't taste right, fish didn't feel like it was cooked, had to throw it away.

Delicious fish & chips!!! The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and beautifully flaky on the inside. The chips were very nice too. Although we ordered fish and chips only, we were surprised at the selection of other food! The service was quick, staff very friendly. We will be returning for more! Thank you Skippers!

The chips were soggy and had stuck to the paper so over half were inedible.

Tried to call to ask if food was still coming as it was so late and couldn't get through. My husband ended up having to drive to Skippers to find out where the delivery was.

Chips and chicken nuggets were soggy and cold. Dona meat was cold. Packaging was soggy and breaking.

I absolutely love this place the food is amazing. We are so lucky to have this down the road from us. I normally call them before ordering and they make it within 15 minutes. I’ve just tried their southern fried chicken and It’s delicious. The food is always cooked properly and it’s so hot and fresh. Thank you :-)

Fab fish (regular) cod, chips (medium) and (homemade) mushy peas c.£10 Told to wait 7 mins on ordering as fried to order and service was still fast and efficient. Quality was top-notch across the board. Pretty extensive range of other take-out foods too - including fried halloumi - but what I had was really good. Many people going into the chippy ordered on the website and then collecting... seemed to work well. Open late 6 days too.

Got my order home only to find that three of my children’s chips where missing, had to make a second trip before the rest of the order had gone cold. Really annoying.

Been here now 3 times when working in the area and now I will definitely recommend. All the food is absolutely cooked to perfection, every time I've been. Best chippy in the area and will actually go out my way to eat here.

Onion rings were greasy and absolutely no taste of onion! Halloumi was greasy and burnt on the edges. Chips undercooked with lots of grey areas. I’d asked for salt and vinegar but couldn’t taste it at all. Everything, apart from the curry roll, was under seasoned and bland tasting. For the price I’d expected better. I will not be ordered from here again.

I don't like fish, and sometimes when I order something else at a fish & chips place, it has the fish taste and smell on it. Skippers has never done that, and it says a lot about how they prepare and serve their food. They have really good fried chicken, burgers, and chips. Really good quality, and always hot and fresh when it arrives. Delivery drivers are also really nice.

Love the fish and chips from this restaurant and I’ve been a patron for years so clearly satisfied. Lately the customer service has been abysmal (my experience). I’ll not be ordering from this restaurant again.

Deliveroo have completely let you down Skippers. Soo late and cold. Never again! By the time the food arrived most people were tucked up in bed!

Everything was lovely but the chilli sauce had opened and spilt over everything in the bag. I think the bag had been dropped as the handle was broken.

Smallest chip portion Ive ever been handed in near 50 years. So called 'large' wasnt anywhere near a small from any other chippy. That with extremely dry saveloys and other foodstuffs from here, Id say avoid completely. The staff are ok, way too many of them behind the small counter though.

Food is ok. Saveloys were very, very dry. Main reason for the two stars is portion size. I ordered large chips two times now, and the portion size wasnt even comparable to small in every other chippy Ive ever visited in near 50 years. Their 'large' didnt even cover a small plate with chips! Not a one off as I say, twice in a row. The other food is ok (apart from saveloys which feel like they have been under the lights for days to be honest) but with the price of "large" chips and the portion size you would need to spend sit-down restaurant prices for a chippy take away. I know its Harpenden but that doesnt give them the right to charge me a 50 pence a chip ! Long and short: Chip portions are laughable sizes, food is nothing to mention or dried out. Staff are friendly though, but seem to be 5+ behind the counter which makes me wonder how they pay all the wages... maybe by overcharging for chips ? Id avoid, there are better chip shops where you get more food for less or equal price.

Food was delicious we had the rock, southern fried chicken and regular chips. Chicken was tender and coating delicious, rock perfect. Delivered on time and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back for more.

Our food was late and missing the scampi but other than that the food was very nice we only have ordered from here several times and only been let down this time.

Not only was it 45-55 minutes late we also missed bits off our order, normally I wouldn't mind but this is the 3rd time they have messed up! Food was cold. I will not be ordering from here again.

No food delivered - no order update - nobody answering calls at the restaurant - refund requested.
