We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

First visit to the cafe and castle. We were very impressed with both but the cafe is one of the best NT cafe we’ve visited. There was a good selection on offer and it was good value for money. I chose a delicious cheeses and ale scone and my husband chose the ham salad sandwich. His was a huge offering with salad and coleslaw. The cafe was very busy but I wasn’t queuing for ver long. An efficient ordering system is used which I haven’t seen before in NT cafes. We are NT members and will certainly return even if we don’t go into the house. It is very close to the motorway and is an excellent place to stop when heading further north.

The National Trust do good cafes and this one is no exception. After visiting the Castle and wandering around the superb gardens, we were ready for a drink and cake. It’s a large cafe with seating inside and out. It does get busy so patience is required which sadly some customers don’t have! Good choice of hot and cold drinks and great selection of cakes. If something more substantial is needed, cooked food is available. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. The NT gift shop is next to the cafe. Short walk to the car park.

After going around the Castle and Gardens we were ready for some lunch so called in to the on site Cafe. It was extremely busy but tables came available quite quickly. They serve a wider selection than a lot of other NT cafes and the kitchen staff work extremely hard as you don`t wait very long for hot meal orders. The chaos is on the till area. The staff serving are very pleasant but something seems to get lost in communication from placing your order then paying for your choice! You place your order and are given a disc with a number on it. The idea is that, when you give the disc to the lady on the till it is scanned to tell her what you have ordered and how much you owe. Unfortunately, something seemed to go wrong with my `disc`. The lady seemed confused and went to speak to her colleague and also to someone in the kitchen. During this time, I had no idea what the problem was and the queue behind me was growing impatient. It was resolved eventually and I paid for what was a lovely lunch. I feel though, that it is unfair on the `front of house` staff who should have more help , especially at the busy times. Anyway, we will still have lunch in the Sizergh Cafe next time we visit Sizergh.

Turned up to the cafe at 11.00 am on a Sunday for breakfast before a long walk in the grounds. 'Can I have the salad?' 'No, we dont do things off the lunch menu until 11.45' 'Can I have a bacon bap then?' 'No, we've run out of bacon' 'Can I have a sausage bap then?' 'No we've run out of sausages'. Felt like I was in the Monty Python Cheese Shop sketch. How difficult is it to organise a breakfast menu?

Was recommended this place for the carrot cake but sadly they didn't have any on the day we went! So we had a scone and cake of the day. The scone was one of the best I've ever had and the raspberry and vanilla jam was amazing. The cake of the day was a chocolate cake which was really nice too. The location is quirky with the cafe overlooking the farm milking area but we were not there at the correct time. We did visit the cows and enjoyed walking around the farm shop.

Called here for lunch at 11.40. Told no hot food could be ordered until 11.45! Which I did. I asked for 2 eggs with skin on fries. Told eggs were only served at breakfast so I ordered a piece of Frittata. This was advertised as a ‘light meal’ and was over £5. The fries were over £2. I got a small piece of frittata with fries. Hardly a ‘meal’ the frittata was however nice tasting. Poor value in my opinion though and I had to as for it to be served with the chips to be kept hit together. They were wanting to serve them separately!

This cafe overlooks the milking parlour below on the farm. Can imagine that this would be quite the spectacle at the right times but we did not see any cows. The menu at the cafe is pretty extensive - lots to choose from. The Welsh Rarebit can have bacon added but I felt the additional charge was a bit much for the one half rasher that arrived. The rarebit was tasty though and in contrast the quiche order was a good sizable piece so perhaps it just needs a bit of portion consistency. You order at the till and that staff were oaky - a bit distracted and talking amongst themselves as we were trying to order but the food arrived in good time and was tasty. Would go again if in the areas

Never ever been to Sizerg Castle before despite being NT members for over 30 years. I asked for what I thought was quiche, turned out it was frittata, however decided to give it a go,also asked for chips & coleslaw to go with it.Never noticed it was just veg ,all the ones I do not like, hubby ate his simply because he was hungry. The (chips) using that term loosely as they were just so thin like shoe laces with skin left on,they were awful, tasted of nothing.,coleslaw was ok,had a pot of tea & a latte ,best part of the meal. Time NT upped their game here as we are used to far better fayre.

I’ve called in four times recently, having walked in a circuit from Scout Scar. Always great coffee and very friendly staff trying to do their best.I had a sandwich today too which was absolutely delicious .Seating outside is where you can park yourself , not their fault .Again, not their fault: but they do seem to attract groups of pensioners who clearly believe the signs that say “ one adult per party to enter the cafe only please”, don’t apply to them . Even when there’s only ever one of them, does the ordering , paying and carrying, and the others look on, as if Covid doesn’t apply to them. Then they chunter about nowhere to sit !!!

This cafe is self-service, which would be OK if there were enough staff. There obviously weren't when we went in for lunch as there was an unacceptably long queue. Matters weren't helped by an unhelpful, or perhaps inadequately trained young lady on the till. The choice of food was limited and the seating was very cramped. Also customers were expected to clear their own tables but, as several didn't bother, these tables remained uncleared. The food, when it arrived, wasn't too bad. I feel the management could learn a lot from the way the cafe is run at Levens Hall, which is just down the road.

It was a busy Friday lunchtime when we visited, and there were only a few tables outside available to sit at. As is normal at cafes without table service, plenty of people were sitting at tables whilst their families/friends were waiting in the queue to order, meaning that people without table-reserving friends were leaving the queue with hot food and drinks but nowhere to sit. There were no trays when we arrived in the queue, and the staff member that I asked insisted that there must be trays somewhere along the queue...... Anyway, we eventually ordered our food (which was pretty good, actually) and made several trips through the busy cafe to the table outdoors, seeing as we didn't have a tray to help us!

This is a good place to eat when visiting the house and, or gardens at Sizergh Castle. It is open to people who are not visiting the castle and I have made use of the facilities for lunch when indulging in a low level walk in the area. The menu is wholesome and substantial though there are options for those who are not trenchermen.

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.

Lovely setting to relax and enjoy the views having lunch or just a drink. A few had lunch said was nice. Me personally thought expensive for soup but enjoyed my coffee. Worth it for the views.

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

“Let’s stop for ice cream” we said. “It’ll be a treat for the kids” we said. It wasn’t. Honestly we nearly lost the will to live. Not the fault of the people serving but the convoluted menu of ice cream sundaes and milkshakes which each took about a week to make. We only wanted ice cream and were waiting around 45 minutes which honestly just wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t just us as several groups abandoned the queue while we were waiting. Need a fast-track queue for customers wanting ice cream only. Won’t be returning.
