So disappointed in this experience. Food was average to say the least..I think the concept is great. The service was fantastic but the standard of food was poor.

We tried merchant Square venue as we had been gifted vouchers for Christmas. Nice experience of Hanoi tasting menu. Felt the first few courses were a bit big portions for a tasting menu, then the chicken “main” was absolutely tiny……. No wonder there is an add on available (at a price) for this course which was tempura prawn & one between two was sufficient. All in I just expected “more” in relation to flavour. Service was excellent & please note 12.5% service charger is already added on to your bill. We didn’t take the wine pairing as my OH doesn’t drink wine but it looked a decent amount for what was charged. Would like to return to try another different menu.

I had voucher deal for the Hanoi themed food & accompanying wine. Service. On arrival, the friendly waitress advised the voucher we had included a complimentary glass of prosecco. This did not arrive so during the 1st course, I enquired with a passing waiter about this - the look of disdain and grunted reply from him tells me needs to go back to customer service school. Needless to say, the prosecco did not appear. I asked again when another friendly waitress was clearing the 1st course and the promised prosecco finally appeared. Also got impression staff bored with the rehearsed food/wine script they give you - it tells you on the menu anyway. Food. I cannot fault any of the flavours from any of the courses as they were all lovely but not a good sign if you are left feeling hungry after the six courses - not sure if you get less on a voucher deal. Thankfully, there was a good chippy nearby to satisfy my hunger pangs afterwards. Wine. I felt the wines were well matched to each course - looked like maybe 100ml per glass. I was fairly merry on leaving but think this more a result of not enough food to soak up the alcohol.... Conclusion - worth a visit as a treat on a voucher deal (would not be worth full price) to sample the flavours but have something to eat before you go...

Purchased deal on ‘Black Friday’ for 6 course & wine pairing for new Merchant City venue, after visiting Byres Rd & Finneston a few times, loved food and experience - staff were engaging, confident- perfect. Exemplars of good, caring and confident servers led by proficient managers. Unfortunately, Merchant City branch is not. On arrival, I asked manager if we could change seats- she was not happy by her demeanour ( table for two). The staff were doing their very best to cover and make up for the below mediocre food they were serving. First course was tasty, from then all downhill. Cold and unappetising from then on. Disorganised management from chefs to tables. Servers were lovely and tried their best. Management was awful. Maybe, due to city centre location, standards are lowered? Not a good experience and we would not return. Has put us off from visiting Six again.

The new Hanoi menu sounded very appealing but was pretty average overall. After waiting a while to be asked about any drinks, we were served robot fashion after this. We had pre bought a voucher to celebrate a special birthday and this included the wine pairing. The server was very friendly but we knew every time we had a new wine or new course coming up that the description of each was rehearsed and felt we couldn’t have asked any questions about either as this wasn’t through knowledge but merely a script. As other people leaving reviews have said, it very much feels like a chain now with no real knowledge or passion in the food and experience. The PR for six by nico far outweighs the experience.

The atmosphere was great and on the whole the food was too. But it took 2 hours to serve 4 of the 6 dishes, we actually left after dish 4 as they all became “samey” . The Idea of Hanoi really grasped us and we were so looking forward to our visit, the servers were helpful , knowledgeable and friendly even though they were each dressed in their street clothes which was a tad off putting as we struggled to differentiate servers and guests - but I’m afraid our food was not as expected. We were served the classic portion twice when we had asked for the vege (this added to the in between wait times) the foods consistency was rather like baby food, no crispy noodles as advertised and the foam was more like yoghurt. One of the dishes was so incredibly salty none of us could finish it. Watching the pass was underwhelming as it appeared to be very “production line” like and no real uniqueness. Overall the experience was ok but the food under par (for us) a shame

We had pre bought the dinner and wine pairing as part of the Black Friday offer. We eventually booked for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party at the new Merchant City venue. We arrived 5 minutes before our allocated 4:30pm slot and there were a couple of people waiting at the desk. Within minutes there were probably around 10 people waiting outside the door to enter. At no point did any staff, despite numerous members passing the lengthening queue stop to acknowledge it or even say "we'll be with you in a moment". They continued to clear tables and buzz about until the y could take everyone to their table. We must have hung around nearly 10 minutes. This is our only criticism of our time at the restaurant. Compared to the old venue in Finnieston the restaurant layout decor and ambience is night and day. Service was impeccable as usual (once seated) and the food and rink combinations were excellent.Even at normal ricing with the wine the value is superb but with this offer it was even better and meant we had all the "extras". As stated the only minor gripe was arrival, everything else was magnificent. Onto the next menu......

We were looking forward to visiting six by nico as we had been to the Edinburgh establishment a few years ago and it was excellent. Byers road however was far from excellent. We sat down in front of the kitchen and hoped to see how it was done. All we could see was lines of the same dishes being lined up like a production line. These guys are not chefs and are mearly platng up pre made food. Every dish we had was lukewarm at best. On pointing this out to our server all she said was she would pass it on. The veloute should have been served in a teacup in keeping with the theme, however we were told that there weren’t enough. The courses were served rapidly one after the other and we felt rushed. When we asked for a break between courses it was the ignored and came just as quick. Service was poor and unprofessional. This is certainly not a fine dining experience and more like fast food restaurant. no more than a commercialised chain, this was a Christmas gift and we left feeling extremely disappointed.

Recently went to the new merchant city Six by nico for the Mad Hatters tea party. Decore and atmosphere always nice. Edible menu was good fun. Menu on a whole was fabulous and after doing several different ones it’s always fantastic. However it seems to be more about money making as prices are getting dearer with all the add ons. It used to just be the wine pairing add on which was great and worth the £ but now there’s add on cocktails and sides which aren’t worth the money and take away the classy small dishes. Also getting the bill, there was a lot of mistakes which seemed to be happening to a lot of other people which caused confusion. Servers were great and nice to see so much younger faces.

Was excited to try this with my partner and we mostly enjoyed the food though the association with the theme was honestly rather poor. I saw a review of the same mad hatter theme a few years back, and that looked a lot more fun, with little teacups and savoury biscuit in the first course rather than tumbler of beef stock and tiny scone. On further reflection i now realise none of the courses looked as advertised as can be seen most especially in my dessert picture. While I do understand its a tasting menu, for the price you don't expect to come away still hungry and my cocktail was bang average. Something I'd expect at any much cheaper restaurant. Service was OK but seemed rushed and harried. Completely forgot what course we were on and asked if we had received the 4th when we were waiting on the second. Also had to ask for water twice. Waits between courses varied but one was a good 25 minutes. You really don't expect this sort of thing given the high service charge. All in all I'm not regretful of the experience but probably would go elsewhere in future.

Went to Byres Road with my wife for the Funfair Menu. We arrived a little bit late but that was not a problem. Menus were 6 courses each with well thought out great taste sensations, service was excellent. I have in the past had Home by Nico (where you were supplied all the goodies to cook at home, this was excellent also) Service charge at 12.5% is a tad steep but it was a great meal in a lovely setting with nice staff. I have seen some other reviews and cannot help thinking that some people go looking to complain rather than having a good time. Trust me this is a great experience you will be very happy you went!!

When we entered the restaurant we were 5 minutes late for our 5:15 booking as per the conformation email that I received. We were told that apparently our booking was at 5 and were given looks by the restaurant host. Then after we had sat at the table my fiancé noticed that the host was talking/laughing to our server whilst looking over at us. This made us feel very uncomfortable and set the tone for the whole meal. Then past that we were never given a drinks menu and only ordered water. The waitress came over and gave us the water and asked if we were ready to order, where we ordered the 6 courses. We then waited 10 minutes before the server came back over to ask us what we would like to order, which was very confusing. We told her that we had ordered 10 minutes ago and she was like “did you” and we had to remind her that we had ordered with her. Around course 2 of the meal we decided to ask for a drinks menu and managed to get one. I had to ask a member of staff to take our order and she then didn’t put our drinks through the system. So 10 minutes later, and another course, I asked where the drinks were and was told that they were on their way. Then soon after the person who we had ordered the drinks with came back over and tried to confirm what drinks we had ordered, getting them both wrong. So we corrected her and we got our drinks soon after. I noticed throughout the meal that servers seemed very “busy” and kept saying to customers that they were “busy” but had time to go and sit on their phones in the cloakroom area of the restaurant and also go outside the front door of the restaurant for cigarette breaks. With our 5th course we decided to add on the scallops. Which I added on just as the 3rd course arrived. I ordered both one for myself and my fiancé but when it came it was only one that arrived and when I challenged this I was told that I had only ordered one, with no offer to get another one at the table. The final straw in our meal was when I asked for the bill. The server brought it over and the bill for 2 people was just over £250. Somehow the server had added on 4 vegetarian menu’s to our bill and hadn’t noticed and had I not I would have ended up paying it. Luckily this was taken off and we reluctantly paid for this extremely sub-par meal and left as quickly as possible. I have to say given the look of the restaurant I expected a lot better. We both walked away with a valentines dinner ruined, very disappointed. I think the company needs to have a long hard look at how it trains its staff. Especially when it advertises adding a 12.5% gratuity onto every bill, this to me would make me expect the highest of service standards and I can say without hesitation that this was the worst service that I have had in a restaurant.

I was gifted a voucher for £100 as a Christmas present. I struggled to get booked into the restaurant as the availability was slim. I managed to secure a booking within 12 months but when speaking to a friend they informed me that there was a six month limit on the gift voucher. I contacted six by Nico before my booking to explain what had happened and that I hadn’t realized that the voucher was only valid for 6 months, nobody got back to me before the day I was booked in for so I had to cancel the reservation. When I did receive a response I was informed that they would not honor the voucher to the value of £100. Disappointing from such a large and busy business. I would not recommend buying gift vouchers from this restaurant, it’s difficult to get a reservation.

Went to Finnieston restaurant for my husband's birthday. Firstly, I had tried to contact them to say I was ill, left a message and no one called me back. So had to pump myself full of painkillers to go as table booked for 12.30, otherwise we would've been charged full price. There was no acknowledgement of this when I told our server on arrival. Next, the menu we thought we were getting, the taste of 2023 one, had been changed to the chippy one without us even being told but we were happy to go with it anyway. All was lovely until I got a thick black hair in my beef shin when pulling it apart. The staff kept disappearing out the back so I had to go and find them to let them know. I was happy to change it but unfortunately on the next plating I got the exact same hair again so it was obviously in the shin mixture. I had to go find the staff again to tell them and finally a young woman, who I'm guessing was the manager, abruptly told me I was getting it swapped for the veg option, without even giving me the option or apologising. I asked the young guy who had been serving us what she said as she disappeared after this, and I told him I didn't want a veggie option as I wanted the beef and I'm not veggie. Then the woman came back with an attitude and told me it was because the hair was obviously in the beef mixture so they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. Meanwhile the chef was in the door area having a moan and rant about it right in front of me, as if I'd done something wrong, because I didn't want the veg option. They then brought me both the beef and veg option but luckily no hair in either. Again, I found the woman's attitude to be very rude and dismissive as if I should be grateful. The food was lovely as always and the young male server was friendly and informative about the food but I just feel like the customer service and communication was very poor from management and they couldn't care less. It wasn't until we got the bill that the manager finally acknowledged the hairs and said they had discounted the bill, but up to that point we were none the wiser. Again, I was made to feel grateful for this by the woman as if it was my fault. I've always loved this place and had a great experience but this just ruined it for us, especially on my husband's birthday. He had to sit and wait until I got a hair free plate with no apology. Really not the quality of service or great experience I've come to expect from Six by Nico. A real shame, as up til now it's always been fantastic and my favourite place.

Please avoid buying the vouchers as gifts in case this happens to you. Absolutely appalling way to treat customers and certainly won't be getting my business in future UPDATE: I contacted the owner and their suggested resolution was a complementary drink. Very noisy venue. Tables a bit close together for comfort. Couldn't hear any of the course descriptions. First course couldn't taste the chicken thigh for the chilli and Ginger. Second course was just a potato croquette could find any cod flavour. Course 3 Cauliflower velute was delivered but no spoons to eat it. Had to ask for spoons. The velute was cold and had to wait for it to be heated got it back at barely room temperature. Course 4 sea bass was barely a one and half inch piece of sea bass fillet and was charred black all round the skin - very poor cooking of a lovely fish. Course 5 was chicken breast. The very first bite and I had a large chunk of breast bone almost choke me. Had to wait for a replacement to me made. Course 6 dessert crema catalana underwhelming. We travelled 7hours by car stayed at the Grovenor Hotel specifically to eat here for a Christmas voucher purchased by my daughters. Unfortunately the menu felt very lacking in any quality or passion. Felt very cheap and rushed. Had hoped for a memorable evening unfortunately it was but for all the wrong reasons. The staff did apologise for the food but said due to it being a voucher they could not offer any discount.

I was invited along to Six by Nico to join them in their new Merchant City restaurant to test out their six course Mad Hatter taster menu with paired wine. Who could resist this invitation. The experience was excellent from start to finish I cannot fault it in any way and cannot wait to return for their next theme. The Mad hatter was in brilliant character throughout and the cocktails they made definatetly had alcohol in them. Food was just amazing I won't even try to describe what it was but I still have my edible menu, a cery unique touch. The 6 courses menu costs £40 per person paired wine costs £30 so all in all a great night out in a beautifully decorated restaurant with speedy and friendly service. I would highly recommend a visit to this gem and look forward to the next themed menu to go back and do it all again. Thanks for a great night and to Morgan for inviting me along.

The experience was decent enough and food was nice, but it certainly wasn't a fine dining experience in my humble opinion. Service felt rushed and it was difficult to hear what the explanation of each dish and wine was. Why the wine was paired with each particular dish in some cases remained a mystery. Depending on who brought what to the table, a couple of the team members never bothered to explain. A couple of dishes didn't work in my opinion which is disappointing for a fine dining experience. The tastes were rather uneven on the pallet and some didn't do well when matched with the wine. The quality of the wine was OK but again, with fine dining, it left something else to be desired. I suppose at the end of the day the bill more or less matched the quality if the food, but if your trying to pass yourself off as fine dining, there's plenty of other places doing it far better.... albeit for a bit more money.

Have wanted to try this restaurant for a while. It’s a shame the anticipation was better than the reality. The restaurant was cold l, so much so my husband had to put his jacket back on and other guests were sitting wrapped up in jackets and scarves. Service was patchy at best. The waiter would bring out dishes and the explanation of each was rushed so much so we had to ask him to repeat and he acknowledged he was talking too fast but then did it again with each course. There was no order to the service. We got course 1 ahead of the table next to us who were seated before us then they got course 2 before us and this continued on with all the tables. The food was ok. I’m no expert but there wasn’t enough distinction of flavours. A couple of dishes lacked seasoning. The fish supper and deep fried mars bar courses were delicious. I know this was a tasting menu but for £100 I wouldn’t expect to need a real “chippie” afterwards because we were still hungry. Its a shame because rather than feeling like an event it felt like the world’s most expensive starter.

My own fault, but pretty poor to take the money and run... In response to your reply, it's only not possible because you choose not to honour the voucher. You are correct that the mistake was mine...but you have taken the money and provided nothing in return. That is entirely in your gift and reveals the values you hold as a company. PS I notice I'm not the only person who's had a poor experience (with a 2.8 Trustpilot rating!)

Received a gift voucher last Christmas and thought like every other restaurant it would be valid for a year. Tried several times through 2023 to book in but never had availability. I was panicking as the year was nearly up but in checking the voucher it is valid for only 6 months!! Emailed to see if they would honour it but unfortunately this company are greedy and kept the £100 to the stoves. Beware if buying a voucher from them!!

Delicious meal and will absolutely be going back when we see another theme that tempts us. The service was great and no complaints there. The server gave my wife a background of each wine which I could see how some would appreciate. The space is definitely a bit cramped but that's standard for any dining in the area.

Absolutely brilliant with dealing with my dietary requirements. I'm gluten free and allergic to peppers and even though there was an entire dish based around peppers, the chefs did a great job in not making me feel left out. The music was at just the right level so you didn't have to shout across the table but you weren't getting eavesdropped either. The service was pretty fast pace and though I didn't feel rushed, I did feel slightly timed. They do disclaim that they are very popular and busy so need people to come somewhat in and out but as soon as we finished the last course, the bill was basically immediately handed to us. You have to book quite far in advance due to the popularity of this place but honestly it is completely obvious why this place is such a fan favourite.

Visited here as a treat as it is a bit pricier than some of the local restaurants, but I've wanted to go for a while, and honestly it didn't disappoint. The restaurant is small and usually fully booked, so getting a walk in is unlikely. The staff are attentive and polite without being overbearing. The Thai fusion menu was the theme when we went, the food portions are small, but it is a tasting menu, you are there for the experience, not to get stuffed full. I thought the food was delicious and creative with lots of different elements making up each dish. Being a bit of a fussy/limited eater I wanted to try foods I wouldn't normally eat, and the pumpkin spring roll gave me a whole new appreciation I didn't know was possible for pumpkin. I normally don't eat fish either, but the pan seared bass has completely changed my mind. If you want something a bit different to treat yourself, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, then definitely try this place.

First time visiting Six by Nico. Thai fusion was our menu. My only reason for giving the restaurant 4 out of 5, we weren't told you could pick and choose between the Vegan/Main menu. Had I known I would have changed the fish courses. In fairness, you are asked about allergies but it's not an allergy it is just a choice for myself. However, staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The food tasted great. I personally feel the price point is just right. 6 courses felt just right. Large choice of wine and other drinks and fairly priced. Overall I would recommend it.

Had Six by Nico on the list to try for a while now and finally got around to giving their chippie menu a bash. Oh. My. Fu*king. God!!! And that's saying something because I'm an atheist, I detest the overuse of exclamation marks and normally I wouldn't give 'small plates' the time of day. But hey Zeus, Six by Nico is tremendous! It's fine dining at its absolute finest. Call me biased, but that it was the chippie menu that introduced me to the restaurant was probably fitting as any skepticism I entered with was blown away from the first bite of food. I never knew chips, cheese and curry could taste like that. And I've tried many variations of this dish after a few scoops at the weekend. Even with the six-dish tasting menu dazzling the taste buds, it was startling that the star of the show was desert. Featuring an irn bru sorbet, deep fried mars bar and chocolate pave. Words don't do it justice. If you've never been to Six by Nico, do yourself a favour and book it. Do it now! If you've been before - book a return visit. It's a phenomenal establishment and well worth the visit.
