These are the types of places visitors need to go to when visiting Edinburgh. Downtown has great food, but the hidden gems in the suburbs are what really shine. This cafe is the perfect spot to stop in for a warm quick breakfast and amazing coffee. Since we are foreigners from the US, it is nice to go to a place where you feel welcome and the staff engage with you. We talked about our visit to Edinburgh. Customer service, food, coffee. This place has the full experience!

We visit quite regular and love it! The staff are always friendly and remember your face. The food is 10/10 and the doggos always get a sausage or treat when they are in! Win win. The food is extremely reasonably priced too. definitely recommend.

I've been here a few times for breakfast (pretty good meal deals for a roll and hot drink) and it has always been fresh, hot and tasty. Going to try lunch today but I know I wont be disappointed.

Working through in the capital we try to make sure we are in the area come lunch time as the food is brilliant breakfast or lunch your going to have a good quality generous helping of tasty food. I couldn’t recommend the sitooterie enough it is definitely the best grub in area by a country mile, gutted I stay the other side of the country or I’d be there daily. The gent who runs the shop is a well mannered lad.

The coffee is absolutely delicious, and service is super warm and friendly! :) We had egg rolls, and my goodness, they were honestly the best egg rolls we had ever ordered. Just delicious! Who knew such a simple order could have such a massively positive impact! You also get a wide selection of cool sauces to try with the rolls, my friend had an exotic spicy one that was a taste sensation apparently. :) Highly recommend, a great place!

Great food and cheap prices; the owner is very welcoming. We flew to Scotland from Italy to taste the local food and this coffee shop exceeded our expectations!

We drove past this cafe en route to our overnight accommodation, we headed back to the cafe for a mid afternoon coffee. The welcome was very friendly, the decor was pleasing and the all important coffee was good and hot, perfect after a long journey. Looking at the menu we planned to head back to the cafe for breakfast the following morning. This was a good decision, the breakfast was excellent, good value for money, the cafe is well managed and offers good home cooked food at very reasonable prices. Check it out!

Unpretentious, friendly, homemade, affordable. Not easy to find cafe's like this so close to the city centre.

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦‍♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁

Super little cafe, welcoming and well run. Dog friendly. Menu is limited however, if they're not too busy, other options are available on request such as full English breakfast. No obvious vegan options, other than toast. Oat milk available and gluten free bread. Freshly cooked food and really nice coffee. Full of locals, which is always a good sign!
