It was with great joy we came across this chocolatier. It's almost impossible to buy good chocolates now, so I jumped at the chance. Although the shop wasn't due to open until 10, they were getting chairs and tables out so I asked if they could serve me with some chocolates, which they did. There was an amazing selection - hard to chose. The owner who served me was lovely. The chocolates are made on site and I have to say they were EXCELLENT! I highly recommend - not only for the chocs but for the lovely owners! Wish I lived nearer.

This place is a must if you are a lover of ice cream. I think that this must be the most delicious and creamy ice cream that I have ever tasted. The staff were very friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Don't forget to pick up some homemade tablet or chocolates while you are there - both were fabulous.

Looked forward to a return to this lovely shop after being away for a few years to sample the incredible Orkney ice cream only to find that they no longer offer this and just offer a very mediocre ice cream instead. Very disappointing. Bring back the Scottish ice cream. Also return the seats so you could enjoy a coffee indoors during the winter months.

Simply Delicious has a wonderful selection of Ice Cream, Chocolates, Sweets, cakes and Hot and Cold drinks. The presentation of the shop is absolutely beautiful and the prices are very reasonable. I'm afraid this was a total disappointment. After standing in a long queue for 15 minutes and leaving my dad in the abbey looking forward to his rum and raisin flavoured cone, I got my two chocolate dipped cones and tasted it with high expectations. Admittedly I am used to The Perfect Scoop in East Wemyss, which is unbeatable, but the ice cream and even the cone lacked any flavour whatsoever. I could have been eating a cheap vanilla ice cream from the Supermarket. If the previous reviewer is correct, b ring back the Orkney ice-cream I say! Tip - don't bother waiting in the queue!

Well - what a disappointment. This place has always been a 'must visit' in Melrose. Superb ice cream (Orkney) and always a pleasure. Sadly, the ice cream provider has changed. Visited 26 March 2022 for 1st time in a couple of years. Nothing like it used to be. Raspberry Ripple had very little ripple, and the vanilla lacked flavour. Blackberry sorbet was not recognisable as blackberry - just a blue-ish colour and little flavour. So sad.

While I am not sure why people visit places like this - I would certainly advise that you go here if you are anywhere within 200 miles of it !!! The coffee was good and the traybakes were just to die for. I had a Strawberry Rocky Road (if my memory serves - I've been in rapture ever since) and there simply are no words to describe how fabulous they are. We also bought sevel other items to take away with us - Pisco Sour Nibs, various treats suitable for vegans and Iron Brew Pastilles. If you don't know what Iron Brew is - you have led a very unfulfilled life and need to get out more - and we recommend Simply Delicious as a starting point. Although the staff were rushed off their feet when we were there - they were very friendly and welcoming, so give them a break, don't be in a hurry - you won't regret it. We will be back.

Prices were very reasonable. The shop has an amazing array of old fashioned sweets .....very tempting but not good for the teeth! The only black mark was when we were outside enjoying the ambience the next table to us decided to light up cigarettes. None of us are smokers so we were forced to cut our visit short. Cigarette smoke spoiled our visit. A simple remedy would be to make all the outside seating area no smoking.

I have a friend who lives in Melrose and says it's always quite busy and very popular. The decor and seating arrangement was just adorable, it wasn't exclusively just a sandwich bar or cafe, there were also gifts & confectionary and the signs on the wall explained how old money worked etc, so a nice bit of education while we waited. As a local to Melrose, I often enjoy an ice cream from your store! However, a few weeks ago on a sunny day my mother and I decided to get some paninis for our lunch to take away and enjoy out in the fresh air. However, when we went to order our food the older women who "greeted" us, replied with "if you have to!!!" When I ordered the paninis with a rather annoyed tone and look on her. Be that as it may she continued to make the paninis and once they were ready slammed them on the counter and requested the payment! Well I won't be back, Made by Marion are much friendlier, and if it is such an inconvenience to make two paninis then don't serve them at all!

Following your visit to the Abbey, just opposite the exit we wanted to have a tea/coffee in this small self-service corner sweet shop. When we entered, we knew we will try the funniest looking cakes (and forget about energy intake and dangers of refined sugar and so on). Bicycle fanatics, hikers and cultural visitors share the few tables outside, in front of the shop, sipping a hot drink and taking a break. I would not say you should travel thousands of mile to see this place, but once you are there, you should give it a try. (Mind you, my cup of tea and coconut-lemon cake were delicious. And the rainbow-cake one of my fellow travellers chose - see photo - looked as crazy as the flagship animal of the Scots, the Unicorn.)

Just had a delicious lunch here with the best bowl of soup I think I've ever had. I can't recommend this place highly enough... Friendly welcome, quirky surroundings and all home made food, the bread included. Worth a visit to the town for the food alone! Thanks for having us... If we're in the area again, we'll be back!!!

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

We were staying next door at the Crown Inn to attend a wedding in the area however commencement of their lunch service was leaving us tight for time so we popped in here instead in the knowledge we’d get a decent snack. The stairs may be a challenge for the less able however it’s worth the effort as the produce served is very good. We both ordered quiche which was served with salad, coleslaw, crisps and a Balsamic dressing (£6.50). I’m not usually too keen on Balsamic however I used some from the small pot provided separately and it turned out to be fine. The quiche itself was very good. We had coffee (£3) and tea (£2.80) which were very good too but since we were a bit pushed for time we had tray bakes as takeaway - Millionaire Shortbread for my wife and a slice of Aero Mint for myself. Both priced at £3.50 they went down well with a coffee the following day when we were back home! Service on this occasion by the two young females serving was pleasant and efficient. Overall cost for lunch was a reasonable £25.80.
