Walk in takeaway order, so no atmosphere comment! Whilst clearly very busy the wait for food was as expected. We had Kung PO beef, special fried rice and salt n peppa chicken. All food as ordered, hot and tasty.. a great Saturday treat!

Booked a table to eat tonight, we've been quite a few times before to eat in the restaurant and it's always been nice food and good service, never busy . Tonight we were the only ones in the restaurant and after waiting for 15 minutes after been seated noone had been to take our drinks order let alone our food order and when my husband looked down at the 2 waiters at the bar they were looking at something on one of their phones so we got up and left. One of the guys said oh my god I'm so sorry as they'd obviously forget we were there. Not acceptable at all, needless to say we won't be going back again.

After posting the below review, I'm afraid the owners/chefs or something has very much changed. Very disappointing, last takeaway we had; lemon CHICKEN was undercooked with PINK BITS! Jilin crispy pork was all batter (whatever the coating is) and barely any pork, same with the sugar coated crispy chicken! Pancakes with duck were so thin they tore upon picking up, duck was cold, crispy seaweed was black and very excessively salty and just not a pleasant experience. Also gotten a lot more expensive, a very big shame. Used to call it the best Chinese! (eg.) REVIEW FROM LAST YEAR: Honestly the best Chinese there is! The staff are so nice, especially Sarah who is always extremely friendly. Would recommend, also have an amazing selection if you are Gluten Free!

Best Chinese around. Never disappointed

Probably the simplest Chinese I’ve ever had. Super nice at the waiters were delicious especially Harvey and Seth. I would definitely come again and eat the crispy seaweed.

Not great restaurant food. As takeaway Chinese food, it would be passable but as a sit down meal it was poor. We were the only customers in the restaurant. The sharing starters were quite nice. Friendly service.

Had a takeaway this evening, the special curry and prawn crackers were inedible due to them being drenched in oil. There were no large prawns in the special fried rice and special curry. All portion sizes were smaller than usual. Very disappointed and won’t be returning.

Had a takeaway of vegetable curry & chips and House Chow Mein The curry had an overdose of pepper! Which became inedible The chow mein , I was told contained prawns, lamb and chicken 🤔 I had 2 prawns , a few bits of leg chicken & plenty of skin and a piece of pork ….. no flavour at all Rung the restaurant…..didn’t show any interest Please don’t waste your money here

Ordered a takeaway on a Saturday night. The turnaround was a speedy 20 minutes. The only downside is it's cash only currently so we had to add an extra stop on route. Just like the mum Groupon WhatsApp I too will highly recommend here.

Food was not quite as good as previously but it was busier than most of my previous visits, so this may have been a reason. Service also felt a bit inconsistent, long gaps of no attention, then being rushed to order or finish eating. Again possibly due to them being busy. Prices seem to have gone up a lot (as everywhere!) and it's cash only now.

Always friendly and quick service i do wish they delivered as this is my favourite Chinese but would rather walk to this one than any other in Dronfield. When sitting in it is also a great atmosphere and food is always lively and great portion sizes

Visiting Barlow Derbyshire for a week from Lincoln. Ordered and picked up food within 30 mins. Easily as good as, if not better than my local Chinese in Lincolnshire. Very impressed. Thank you. Guy

The food was all old and reheated. Prawn crackers tasted like cardboard, were soft and yellow like from several days ago. Duck in black bean was so salty and dry like over roasted. The Thai curry beef was nothing Thai at all just a beef in a sweet chilli sauce. Egg fried rice tasted like packet rice not fried at all. Chow mein was meh with pork very chewy. Only decent thing was Singapore noodles. Wouldn't recommend and their food hygiene rating is 1 . Never again.

We had take away. The lady taking our order was patient, polite and just a lovely person. The food on the other hand was vile. The Sweet and sour chicken was rock hard the plain noodles were literally stuck together and rubbery. The beef chow main was chewy and the prawn crackers were yellow and chewy. Clearly most of this was just warmed up in the microwave. The only thing that didn't end up in the bin were the vegetable spring rolls. Do not recommend then and we will never eat there again.

This is by far the best Chinese in Dronfield and the surrounding area... I like to try different ones and this tops them. They don't deliver which is slight disappointment but we'll worth it. The special curry is the best I have ever had I love had lots from all over Yorkshire and further

Usually order take out due to the good selection of gluten free dishes available but it was a special occasion so we decided to eat in the restaurant. 7.30 on a Friday evening, no atmosphere whatsoever, out of the three draught beers on offer, two had run out. Despite offering numerous gluten free dishes they did not offer gluten-free beer. We ordered our food, food which we normally have from on here as a take out. As our starters arrived so did a rowdy large group of young men, shouting, swearing and listening to football on their phones. The main courses were so salty they were almost inedible. No one c as me to check if everything was ok with our food, the poor waiter was tried his best but he was run off his feet. Overall an awful experience and we will no longer be recommending to friends or returning.

This restaurant with the current staff has gone down hill badly. Food today is no comparison to previous chefs very disappointing

Ordered food for family of 5. Food came quite quickly which surprised me. Have eaten here before and its been generally fine but my beef Chow Mein felt it was just reheated. Aslo the mushrooms in my sisters mushroom Chow had no flavour. I think the standards have dropped and would like to see things improve before visiting Simply Chinese again.

We called in on our way home from shopping to collect a takeaway. We both had chicken curry and "Special fried rice" and crispy duck and pancakes for two, when we arrived home the amount of Duck well there was just enough for one person, the curry had hardly any chicken in it but plenty of mushrooms and onions The special fried rice that you pay extra for only had 2 prawns an a sliver of chicken no pork or any other meat. And was tasteless On checking at home the food hygiene rating is still 1. We think it might be time to go elsewhere

Hidden gem, lived in the area for years and never knew about this place. We dined In and the food was fantastic. Will be returning.

This is despite explaining the importance when ordering and being assured it would not happen again in future. In addition and more seriously, we have also encountered mislabelled food which was meant to be gluten and nut free, resulting in a referral to the Food Standards Agency.

Been having takeaways and meals in restaurant for years last take away was very poor but what was most concerning is the have only got a one star food hygiene rating.

Went here twice whilst visiting Dronfield. The first time the food and service was great. Second time one lady was by herself and could have really done with a hand but the food was just as fantastic.

Friendly and accommodating staff; especially to us with a Baby. Food was piping hot and very filling. Supplied adequate requirements for a baby, had a ramp, gave us a baby seat and heated up babys food. It was fesr and it nicely decorated and at around 7 o'clock it was nice and quiet with only 4-5 other people.

Always get some delicious food here, and never had a bad meal either. Definitely recommend if you're thinking of going here.

This was honestly the best chinese food I have ever eaten. It was hot and delicious. Service was amazing. The best meal out in a long time..amazing quality and service - would use again if we lived here without a shadow of a doubt and would recommend hands down.

What I noticed when we went was the smell of the toilets. Nothing worse then toilet smell in a restaurant. Also the restaurant looked old and tired. The food was really nice.

Not only is it the best food place I’ve ever been to but the lovely lady serving us was the most nice welcoming woman I’ve ever met in my life she was so patient and made a huge fuss of my son and made him laugh so much when he got a tad bit stressed will 100% come again thanks so much!x

Lovely food, great for gluten free

I don't really like Chinese food in the UK but have to say this has been the best I've had. Everything seems pretty fresh. Enjoyed the oyster sauce dishes, meat seemed cooked fresh and not reheated like a lot of Chinese take aways. Great that it's a restaurant so can enjoy a pint whilst waiting. Staff always friendly.

My family meet here regularly and we are always very impressed with the food and service Once again we were served by Kelly who was most courteous and helpful she asked if we wanted a break between courses which we did Thanks to all the staff for a most enjoyable meal and evening especially my sister who paid the bill !

Good service but the food was awful, maybe I came on the wrong night or too early, not sure but we were really looking forward to it after reading all the positive reviews. Our food made us feel sick after 10 minutes and we had to leave it and go, never seen so much oil on food before. Chicken balls came out rock hard in oil and over cooked, chow mein was basically oil noodle soup and so were the king prawns but the rice was nice we did eat that. I believe the food to be reheated in oil as it came out rock hard semi warm within 5 minutes of ordering. Really gutted that I had to leave a bad review as this was all mentioned to staff and all we got was sorry. No rectification or amendments offered and still paid full price. Hopefully this was just a one off but I won't be coming back.

The current hygiene rating is misleading. Food Hygiene and Safety are Good (the next highest rating). Structural Compliance requires improvement and Confidence in Management requires major improvement but “the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future”. My friends and I enjoyed a lovely meal there last week in a spotless restaurant, our waitress wearing a mask.

One star for food hygiene, that's a disgrace. I don't want food poisoning so I will be avoiding this place. We have visited numerous time over the years, and had many takeaways, but no more.

Superb resturant with a great selection of food. Would highly recommend to everyone. Friendly staff and great surroundings.

We have been eating here for some time now as a family and we always enjoy the food and excellent service the waitresses and lovely always have a laugh and a joke with them Sometimes the same dish appears to be somewhat different perhaps a different chef ?

Very good,this was our first visit. Lovely meals, very friendly staff, there was 5 of us plus our 1 year old granddaughter and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us all. They also cater for gluten free and vegetarians. Fantastic restaurant, we will definitely be calling again!

We usually have a take away from Simply over a number of years now. Ans over the past year the quality has gone down hill We used to like the Beef Curry but now they use the cheapest cut it is very chewy and no taste, we also used to have a mixed starter for 2, but the last few times we have had it the 4 bbq ribs are not ribs but a piece of grissel in a bbq sauce and is not worth the price they charge. I was informed by a friend of ours that there hygiene rating has dropped dramatically so I'm sorry we will not be going back for a while Please see attached screen shot

I think they do a plum sauce that is amazing. Try as well their crispy chicken. The decor is different- with interesting art work and decorations. I know you can eat there if you wanted but you can also have their take away- this is especially useful if you are coming back from work and heading for home.

Can't rate it highly enough. Lovely food and great service. Only negative is that I needed to jump up and down almost before someone acknowledged us for our reservation.

We with the family they know our grandson and his dad very well. Excellent service they were very good with my gluten free requirements, would recommend.

We ate here on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The service was excellent and the food was superbly cooked, all came out nice and hot on hot plates. All the dishes we chose were delicious, cooked perfectly and very tasty. Not your usual chinese takeaway food establishment.

This Chinese is magnificent. They have an extensive gluten free selection available, and the food is all very flavourful, with generous quantities of meat in the meat dishes. They are willing to adapt dishes where possible and the staff are lovely.

We ordered a set meal for 2 no 3 on menu £23.95pp. Platter great except sauce for chicken skewers was not a satay saauce but a curry sauce. Aromatic crispy duck fine. Sweet & sour prawns lovely. Rump steak sauce extremly hot & spicy, cod dish very hot with chillies they were not like chinese dishes more like thai dishes.

We've been big fans of Simply Chinese at the Rock for years and have a set of usual go-to dishes, however, after our most recent takeaway orders we were left disappointed. The salt/MSG levels in our food were at a seemingly new high which left our mouths feeling very dry and unpleasant afterwards, drinking pints of water did not resolve. Our food wasn't particularly spicy so this wasn't a 'heat' issue. Unlikely to order again, a great shame.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. I had read a couple of reviews and a couple were not to encouraging, however we found it to be clean, tidy and tables well spaced out instead of on top of one another, and the table clothes lovely and white. When we arrived the lady greeted us with a lovely smile and showed us to our table. She gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted. Our started were well presented and cooked. There was a nice space before our mains arrived. One of the things that impressed us was the hot plates,not many places do them now, so that was lovely. Our mains all came out together ( which in some restaurants does not always happen) very well cooked and presented. I thought my vegetable chow mein was glorious, my husband said that his prawn chop suey was the best he'd ever had. Our first visit most definately will not be our last.

The past 2 times the woman on the phone got our order wrong, we asked for sweet n sour chicken (Cantonese style) this time and they sent us tasteless watery ‘sweet n sour chicken’ the chicken was like it was out of a tin, wouldn’t feed it to a dog, never returning here ever again and would never recommend this chinese ever again.

This is the second time I ordered a takeaway and again it was wrong. We ordered shredded duck it came unshredded no salad and no sauce, so it was very dry and tasteless. The time before I ordered chicken lettuce wrap, unfortunately no lettuce 😟

Only us in the restaurant for our granddaughters 16th birthday party. The food was excellent.

Arrived at the restaurant for a family birthday meal. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and appears very clean. Selection of food available was quite good and clear descriptions of each item in the menu. From ordering our meals to the food arriving was around 6 to 7 minutes. I know people don't like to be kept waiting but this doesn't fill me with confidence that the food was all cooked to order. The food itself was decent but I would suggest takeaway quality rather than restaurant. From arrival to leaving in less than one hour made the experience feel very rushed and not one we will be in a rush to experience again. 3 out of 5 given as the food was decent but experience not so great. I would maybe use this place as more of a takeaway than a sit down meal.

Haven't been there for a while, but it's just as good as we remember.Lettuce wrap to start was very good followed by a quarter crispy duck which was delicious A beef dish and a prawn dish with special rice did not disappoint for main.Washed down with Tsing tau beer and red wine, lovely evening.Great service and good value and choice.

Delicious food served here. You can eat in or simply phone, place an order to collect. Friendly staff, clean premises although parking can be tricky. Very popular place with locals. There's also a bar so you can relax and enjoy a drink or two. Tea and coffee available. Enjoy!

We went here while on holiday in the area, called in and booked when they opened as we were passing. Had been recommended the restaurant by locals.Upon entering we were warmly greeted and our booking promptly provided.We were shown to our table by a lovely waitress who once seated immediately took the order for drinks. Very good prompt and efficient.We were given appropriate time to browse the amazing menu, we both choose the pork jilin. A lovely dish that isn't available in every Chinese, its delicious marinated and seasoned pork in a crispy batter with a maple syrup and hoisin sauce. Cooked to almost a crispy toffee consistency, I have found the recipe on the internet and cannot get it quite right. This restaurant has the best and most amazing Jilin, we have ever tried, so much so we will be going back just to have jilin. We went on my 59th birthday, so I have tried lots of Jilin, as it was my birthday the restaurant very generously provided prawn crackers free of charge. A very kind and generous offer considering we were only on holiday in the area. The restaurant is not to big, giving a more sophisticated, upmarket dining experience but also welcoming to friends and larger families. They also do a take away service which we could see from our table seemed to have an endless flow of clients collecting their dinner, staff all seemed very polite and courteous irrespective of if you were having take away or eating in the restaurant. I don't think they do Jilin as a take away as it's a dish that needs to be served freshly prepared and eaten otherwise the pork looses its crispyness and can become chewy. The jilin we had was just amazing, really crispy, tasty and with the exact amount of sweet tangyness. Highly recommend...

Nipped in got tea after work. Had Hoi Sin Pork wraps to start (shared) I had beef with ginger and spring onions, he had king prawn in Cantonese sauce. Both meals were delicious, reasonably priced, great service. Will be back

I visited Simply Chinese restaurant for my birthday. The standard of service and variety of food was excellent . There were six of us from 14 years to 72 years so a good cross section of ages. Everyone enjoyed the food and envioroment. Would recommend to anyone wanting a good night out

Some of this food is good but it is way over priced and there is no parking whatsoever. The takeaway is cheaper but you end up getting very little for the exorbitant prices.
