This one’s great restaurant and takeaway with the best in Blandford the choice of curries were superb but I’m afraid that corners have been chicken is very inferior quality now and it’s definitely gone downhill which is a shame was a regular takeaway and sit in I think they definitely need to rethink their suppliers start giving quality again

This is a busy and popular restaurant serving good quality Indian food - they do not serve alcohol but they are happy for diners to bring in their own drinks - there in no "corkage" charge. As we had not realised this we were advised to buy from a nearby supermarket - the polite and friendly staff even offered to put drinks in their fridge. Food was served quickly and was very well cooked and served. Onion bhaji starters were really very good - perfect taste and texture - and the king prawn dishes with vegetable madras were lively with chilli and very well spiced. Naan bread was terrific too - hot and just the right texture. All great. A pity they do not have desserts available at present as kulfi would have finished the meal perfectly.

I am a massive fan normally of this takeaway. And would highly recommend to all my friends and family. Although last night I ordered a take away it arrived late, cold and watery… the flavours were still all there but it was inedible. I tried to call with no success. I have been put off now by this takeaway.

Just looking for somewhere to eat on Thursday night. Had walked past Simla earlier and it was empty, as it was when we walked down later. Thought this can't be good, but hey went in and what a surprise, the food was absolutely delicious, I could have happily licked my plate. The staff are excellent as well, very polite and helpful, first class. Totally recommend Simla - one of the best curries I have had the pleasure to devour! 4 star only because there was no alcohol, but hey we knew that and got our own.

Very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We booked the evening before and were informed of the no alcohol policy which was fine, however we were surprised to be given a menu which included alcoholic beverages. The place feels basic and lacks the normal welcoming atmosphere of an Indian restaurant. It feels more like a takeaway with tables than a restaurant. Clearly their priority is take away business as we waited over an hour for our food. The order itself wasn’t taken until long after we’d finished our poppadoms. We weren’t offered a drink for ages, then were offered poppadoms. The dips which came with were of very poor standard, random pots dumped on a plate and no flavour to any of them. We had to ask for napkins, as did other customers. Surely this is a basic requirement in a restaurant! One waiter didn’t seem to have a clue what he was doing, the other was trying hard and was pleasant, but ineffective. When our food finally arrived, it was disappointing to say the least. The sag aloo was dry and the spinach tasted bitter. The curry dishes had no depth of flavour, just lots of chilli. The naan was nice though. The plates were scolding hot and handed without warning, whereas the serving dishes were stone cold, so the food got cold quickly. When we eventually finished our meal, we weren’t even offered coffee or desert making us feel like we were just a burden. We went to pay with our Amex card as they displayed a sign in the window stating they accept American Express, but they wouldn’t take it. I noticed lots of towels in the front window and I’m sure as we drove past the following day, there seemed to be buckets in the window. I don’t think I’ve ever seen salt and pepper on tables in an Indian restaurant before, this says a lot about the lack of flavour in the food! We will not be returning.

Having booked a table the previous day we were directed to a table by a waiter who seemed disinterested. We waited several minutes before the waiter came to the table and asked if we wanted some poppadoms before informing us that they no longer served alcohol. We were left with a menu, which contained a wine list! The poppadoms were brought to the table within a few minutes. We had to ask for napkins, as there none on the table We waited about 20 minutes before our order was taken and a further hour before our meal was served. We had acknowledgment from another waiter who apologised for the delay. The food was finally served but unfortunately was rather mediocre, lacking depth of flavour. We requested the bill but were unable to pay via our chosen card despite the notice in window indicating that they accepted the card. We noted that there was a steady stream of take away orders being delivered and clearly that they were more important than customers in the restaurant.

A bit disappointed when we arrived to be told they did not serve alcohol any longer. So we had to send a member of our party out for wine. There was a corkage charge applied but I thought it was a bit steep to include a child in this, who was obviously not drinking wine. Anyway, the service was very good and the food was really good. Quite reasonably priced. However, when we got the bill, we had been charged nearly ten pounds for 4 poppadums and pickles. We had not actually ordered a pickle tray but it came anyway. When we queried the cost we were told that they charged per head for the pickles ( again including a child). But they seemed to agree they had made a mistake as they reduced the bill. I have given 4 stars as the food was good, the overall service was good and they corrected their “mistake”

The food was reasonable- a basic Indian restaurant. The service I can only describe as abysmal. We asked for 2 more poppadoms that never came. Sparkling water they said was in 350 ml but 700 ml one arrive in an ice cooler but luke warm- nothing smaller offered so I went for tap. We had to go and find a waiter to get more water - we were brought a 125ml glassful. No napkins - these just flung on end table. When main course arrived a large heavy bowl on hot plate handed to us whilst starter plates and chutneys still on the table. Cutlery handed to us. There was plenty of room ( once the starter plates had been cleared) for the waiter to reach over and lay the cutlery on the table. The same applies to the way the main course was served, One could barely call it service - the waiters were out the back chatting so we had to go to them for anything we needed. When it came to the bill everyone was very active!!! I think it would be just as good if they laid out a buffet then they wouldn’t even have to pay waiters! AND customers could be assured of getting what they want, pleasantly served!! Altogether an appalling experience that we certainly won’t be repeating!

Firstly their website states they open at 5pm. Arrived at 5.10 (restaurant door was open) to be then asked to leave as they do not open until 5.30, no offer of taking a seat etc. Just advised to return when they opened. Came back at 5.30 to see people already seated and eating pops. Not a great start. Tried to order a beer andcthen advised they only sell soft drinks but I could get my own ( some prior notice either on the website or at the restaurant would have been useful !) . Proceeded to a local shop and brought 4 small beers for myself and partner for £5.35, on return was told there was a small corkage charge. Food was slow arriving wasn't in too much of a rush and to be fair was cooked well. When we had finished we were immediately presented with the bill (no ask if we were finished) and then discovered we had been charge £5.90 to use their bottle opener ! . Disappointing experience from the staff which overshadowed the food.

There’s no doubting the curry is very good and the best in the area. ISSUE Management lie to get your order with delivery times. 5 times I’ve ordered now being told 90 mins, a long wait but if that’s the time they say when I order and I still want to order it , then that’s fair. They take on average 2 and a half hours to 3 hours waiting for you to complain before they even cook the food. By this time you just want food and will wait. If this was a one off then that’s fine but it’s every time. Disgusting! No care for their customers and not even a poppadom offered to compensate for their lies to get your business. Avails at all costs unless you order 3 hours before you want to eat.

Perhaps it's because I like "British" Indian food (ie. not heavily spiced), but I do, and the Simla does it very well. They are invariably cheerful, courteous, and the food is always properly cooked and delicious. It's a pleasure to go in, sit down, and enjoy a good meal. But what makes the Simla even better is that they also provide an excellent Takeaway Service (without detracting from their principal function as a restaurant). So if you ever want to have a great quality dinner party at short notice, you won't be disappointed to let them become your kitchen team for you. They are one of the best places to eat in the Blandford area, and every success to them. Our family used to be a fan of this place - it's curries are good - but we've given up because, as other reviewers have found, the wait for take-aways is always far longer than they tell you.. Even when they say your food will be ready in 1 hour 15 ins and you arrive at that time you still end up waiting at least 20 minutes, often more than 30. It seems they only start cooking when you appear in person so there is no point calling in an order and clearly no 'who ordered first' system. We once telephoned with an order for take away lunch for two. We were told it would be ready in 20 mins. When we arrived 25 mins later, the restaurant was empty, our food wasn't ready and we had to wait another 20 minutes until it was done.

By the time we left the restaurant itself was virtually empty and we were sitting with a number of others who had the same experience as us.if we had no paid when we arrived to collect and if we were not catering for visitors I would have just walked away. We went here as it was near to where we were staying, and fancied an Indian meal. The benchmark for us at any Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant is its prawn puri. We began with popadoms and chutneys, then The Simla provided an excellent prawn puri starter - a little more expensive than some, but a lot better both in quantity and flavour than many I have tried. I then had the chicken tikka biriani, which was once again excellent and plentiful - I ended up needing help to finish it. My husband greatly enjoyed his chjoice as well. The staff were friendly and keen to ensure we had a good experience with them - which we did!

we were staying at The Crown in Blandford for a couple of nights and called in on the Simla on the Thursday evening for a meal, without doing any previous research, other than looking through the window, and that in itself was positive.

I have eaten here a number of times now. First of all, I have to say that the staff are second to none. Charming, welcoming, friendly and funny, they know how to make your dinner a memorable experience.

We had a table for four people. The service was quite efficient but the waiter was over familiar.

We arrived before 11.00pm as we were on the way back from the Dorset Steam Fair and had googled places to eat and had found out that they were open until 12. We were shown to a table but immediately felt as if we were an inconvenience. We ordered quickly and the meal came promptly but we had to ask for napkins etc... we just felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff all through the meal... very grumpy staff! We complimented them on their naan bread which was delicious ... but no smile or thanks.. just felt awkward. To be honest we were only 10 minutes later than anyone else in the restaurant so was not as If the staff had to stay late, very disapointing as food was great.

A gem of a place in blandford. I've had a few meals at Simla, if you like curry you won't be disappointed. Fast friendly service, substantial variety on the menu. If you want mild to hotter than the sun or anything in between, this should be the stop for you.

My partner and I have used this restaurant many times in the last 3 - 4 months. Service has ranged from almost too attentive to nonchalant. Food has varied between excellent and rather poor. Takeaway service has proven to be diabolical with incorrect orders and really terrible timing. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic but sadly unprofessional and incapable of being able to deliver a consistently good experience. This restaurant is basically decorated and ok for a basic meal at, not so basic prices. Don't think of it as going out for a nice meal (clientele are likely to be in vests and shorts and unlikely to be dressed appropriately for a restaurant) but consider it to be an ok provincial Indian eatery. Unfortunately Blandford has very little to offer when it comes to an evening out and this particular destination is struggling to achieve the already pretty low standards that Blandford seems content with.

After a long day and wanting to celebrate my sons new job, we decided to try this lovely restaurant. We turned up quite late but was welcomed with open arms. The staff were extremely welcoming and were attentive to our table. The food was clearly cooked from fresh and we grateful for the speedy service. The whole ambience of the restaurant was welcoming, very clean and food top notch. Will definitely be returning.

Service was somewhat erratic, but it was a busy Saturday night. Good location. I had to challenge my bill: I had been charged additional costs for food not ordered or served! Put this one down to experience. Thankfully the food was good, which pushed me to give it 3 stars this time!

Absolutely amazing food, decided to do take away, two different curries, side dishes and selection of dips, fantastic price for two people and enough to feed three! Didn’t have too long to wait & excellent very cheerful staff despite it being a Friday night and full to the brim. Will definitely return.

Went to Simla last night with friends.I don’t think I’ve come out of a restaurant so full after the most delicious meal. One of our friends even took some chicken tikka home as there was so much but of the highest quality. Having moved back to Blandford we will certainly return.

Overall a terrible evening in here. Initial service on entry was fine but then started to go down hill quickly. It started with a blocked toilet, which I appreciate may not have been the establishment’s fault. Started with poppodums, which again came quickly but then no food for approximately 1.5 hr even after asking several times, each time told it would be 5 mins. Was told they would provide complimentary drinks but still ended up on the bill; after negotiating it was removed. One of my party ended up sick all night. Never going here again.

We booked a table for 15 people at 7.30 and all of the party were on time. Drinks orders were taken and poppadoms brought to the table. The drinks eventually arrived but our food orders were not taken for an hour. More drinks were ordered and delivered, including the pint of lager down the back of one of our party! Food orders taken eventually. Another hour passed and we still waited for our meals despite numerous requests for updates. Eventually they arrived but it was so late we had to rush most of ours and doggie bag the rest as we needed to go. No apologies or explanation. The restaurant wasn’t even busy. Ruined what should’ve been a lovely relaxed evening

VERY DISAPPOINTED simla , came here last night for a takeaway.Ordered at 5.45, Booked it for 7.15 to be collected and had to wait over an hour for it . You really need to get your staff sorted for very busy periods as this is such a nice resturant normally and people will walk away in future if the service is bad . Get it sorted !!!!

We ordered our takeaway last night being told the waiting time was 1 hour 15 minutes. We went to pick up our order after this time and got told it would be 5 more minutes... we then got told this 15 minutes later, 30 minutes later and so on. We finally got our food 2 hours and 15 minutes later. It was highly disappointing to be told it would be 5 more minutes after we asked and would have gone somewhere else had we known how much longer it would have taken.

Ordered a take away for a very special family gathering, waited 2 hours for it! Was constantly told it would be ready in 5 mins but not until a refund was demanded did it appear. Got it home and half was missing! So cross, spoilt our special evening and will most definately NOT be going there again. Bad show Simla!

Incredibly reasonably priced, quick delivery, always hot and fresh. Whenever we have guest visit and get a curry they are always blown away by quality and can’t believe the price! We’ve lived in 9 different city’s and towns and this is by far the best Indian takeaway.

Gave 2 stars overall not because the food is not nice... it was as was the service, but the price, is the issue as the portions were absolutely miniscule...Bombay Aloo came on a small saucer, and the main consisted of 4 tiny pieces of lamb (all sauce !) in a tiny dish ! I understand now that when you ask for a couple of poppadoms between 2 people they give you four just to fill you..oh and by the way they charged us for four too !

Delicious food and friendly service, with "old-fashioned" booths for the tables. Free (in the evening) parking close by.
