Silurian Hotel in Newport

A lovely hotel, maybe could do with a slight update on the decor but I will gladly stay here again. And again.

Staff were very friendly, breakfast was fine but the room was tired and the new windows over the old seems to have trapped condensation- You can see water collecting on the inside and mould, and there is a smell of damp, so not the most comfortable

Nice hotel but very noisy of a night time. Got an ncp overnight for 2 nights as no parking at hotel. Pleasant staff and nice continental breakfast.

DON'T BOOK this hotel as it has shut down

Turned uo for a room and hotel as shut down no warning.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!! 1 star is too much. First impressions were that the building was falling apart, which rang alarm bells. Initial impressions were proven correct when we found that the door was locked with no lights on, and no answer on the phone. Asked at the bar over the road if the place was still open, to which they replied they thought so but staying there was putting your life at risk. They had recently booked a band in to stay there and all of their belongings were stolen from their rooms, as apparently this hotel is often used as a homeless hostel, and many of the rooms cannot be locked. But, as we couldn't even get in, this seemed like a lucky escape! Had to book in to the Mercure round the corner last minute, and i would recommend anyone reading this does the same. Walked past the Silurian at least 10 times over the weekend at various times of day and it was clearly still closed. Reading other reviews here, it looks like we aren't the only people who had these troubles. DO NOT STAY HERE!

It is very clean and very pleasant. It also quiets the noises outside, they are not audible.
