A hidden gem in this somewhat forgotten part of N.Norfolk. But having been on a adhoc basis, to this establishment I’ve been impressed with the quality of the food and drink, it’s a really different, rustic and appealing bakery/cafe/restaurant. My main gripe is that the management seem to struggle for commitment and direction. It takes real hard work and effort to get a new business in this profession up and running. This Siding, has seemed to manage to do… but I’ve often questioned, if the management have got their heart in the job, as often on holidays and days in the tourist season, when they should have been open to the public and ‘making hay’… well they were closed. STOP PRESS… this business and establishment has now closed permanently. So the feeling that I got about commitment has now come to pass, as it seems the owner/s are moving abroad. It’s a great location and it was a popular brand… I do hope a new owner can be found and the early success can be regained!

A friend from Briston recommended this to me. It can easily be missed set back from the main road off a gated site. This is not to be missed and was an excellent discovery. Lovely decor, very imaginative menu indeed, very relaxed atmosphere. Would suit most types, from working people on laptops right across the board to friends, small families (larger groups may need to book) or be comfortable on your own. The trained owners extended from a fine bakery to running this restaurant on site and it just hits the mark perfectly. look at their site for times etc. I had a brioche with mushroom, egg and a few straw chips to the side. It was terrific. Go and see for yourselves. About 10 minutes drive from Holt on the edge of Melton Constable. Look on line for times etc.

for a lunch or an evening meal. Large, airy room with well-spaced tables. The decor and furniture are spare and functional. The menu is fairly short and to the point : that seems fair enough because you know that they will be preparing something from scratch rather than fishing it out of the freezer and sticking it in the microwave. All the dishes seem very reasonably priced, in comparison with other places in the area. There are some good wines on the list and they are fairly priced. I like the fact that you can buy a 500ml carafe. The food is.... modern Southern European?.... I don't know....check the menu online! Definitely worth a special trip but check the opening days/hours. Oh yeah, and they sell great bread as well.

Siding is a lovely addition to the food scene in Norfolk. The baked goods are lovely - sourdough, pastries etc, and the coffee is excellent. Then there is the menu… it’s not a huge menu but it has quality and creativity throughout. I’ll be making the 40 minute trip a lot more regularly than is good for my waistline!

We have been buying gorgeous bread from here for some time - at my last visit I spotted the menu for dinner. What a revelation! Lovely starter of courgette flower stuffed with ricotta. My partner had aubergine parmegana. He followed with the rotisserie chicken and I had pasta with pork sausage ragu. All delicious. He then had the gooseberries and cream which he declared delicious. To be recommended ! Lovely service also. Thank you !

We booked an evening table for a family celebration which was truly special and unique from start to finish. The team were passionate & knowledgeable about their menu of locally sourced and seasonal small plates which were perfect for sharing. They even went the extra mile and helped us vegan-ise some of the items and made our mum feel really special by singing happy birthday when the deserts came out. Each of the small plates was fresh, and bursting with flavour. We tried most of the small plates to share, and couldn’t believe how well each plate complimented the other creating a bountiful summer feast with so much synergy. I’m not normally a desert person, but I knew I would have had some serious fomo (fear or missing out) if I said no and I was right - it was divine! The Venue has a sophisticated relaxed feel with high ceilings and the doors were open allowing a summer breeze to creep in and the sound of the beach trees rustling. A new favourite spot for us in Norfolk, and already can’t wait to go back!!!! We all left feeling satisfied, nourished, with full heats and tums!

Very fed up that we will no longer be able to get our bread from Siding because the click and collect arrangements at Melton C are so restrictive. A Saturday morning collection slot would be better.

No longer a cafe. Just Click and Collect on bakery items on Fridays only. What happens if you need bread earlier in the week?

Our second visit to Norfolk this year and we made a special visit to Sidings. Everything we have tried was very tasty. Especially recommend the almond croissants and orange & cinnamon morning bun. Staff very friendly and helpful. The coffee was great in March.

Easy parking, spacious, welcoming, tuneful but not loud, full of goodies like cheeses and wine, but mostly delicious pastries under the glass counter, ranging from croissant and brioche to aromatic plum tart and chocolate brownies, rich and exquisite, accompanied by an impressive range of rustic loaves, from sourdough baguette to lovely chewy oat bread. The young owner, Polly Quick, is affable and humble, an accomplished maître boulanger IMO, while her front staff are a blend of efficient and angelic, each with a smile in their eyes guaranteed to draw you back... the place is buzzing, don't be late!

My second visit, this time with a friend. There was nowhere to sit in comfort as the two large tables were each occupied by a single lady working on a laptop and surrounded by paperwork and it was obvious neither of them were going anywhere soon! Another customer clutching her coffee and a pastry perched at the far end of one of the tables ( each one would seat 6 people in non Covid times). She was asked to move and ended up sitting where the coffee was being made, she didn't look very happy. It took ages for our coffees to be made by which time they were lukewarm. I had to ask twice for some butter for my croissant despite being informed that they had butter in the ingredients and were not normally supplied with extra butter. I felt like pointing out that we were in Melton Constable not a pavement cafe in Cannes, more's the pity. We had to sit on a hard bench and balance our plates on our laps; because we were banned from sitting at a table the cutlery, sugar etc had to requested from the busy young man doing the coffees. Sidings needs to decide what it is offering. Is it an artisan bakery, a cafe or an office? You need more staff as two are not enough to deal with take out customers as well. You need to address the seating for customers and not allow two people on laptops to take up the space that could seat 8 people on two very large tables in a socially distanced manner. A croissant in Byfords or Larners in Holt is automatically supplied with butter and preserves too if you want some and you can sit at a table. It is to there that my friend and I will take our custom in future.

Stopped on the off chance after running out of bread, what a delightful place, good coffee, very polite staff. the sidings is also dog friendly. We bought a sourdough loaf and sourdough ciabatta, only problem i have is they don't open again until Wednesday and its Sunday today! If you want cheap bread go to a supermarket, if you want good bread at a reasonable price go here, you will not be disappointed.

Having moved to Melton Constable in last few months, the Sidings are a complete delight and sheer terror, delight because their rye bread, chocolate chip biscuits, fudge brownies and croissant are fantastic. A terror as I can’t stop buying them and fear my hips are expanding exponentially. That said, I just do not care! On Good Friday I bought a Simnel cake, a luxurious treat, but it was a very special weekend, and that too was outstanding. Once shopped there, will you want to go anywhere else...?
