Joyful West's Shellfish Bar in North Norfolk

A really fantastic little stall that long established & sells the freshest seafood ever! The crab sandwiches & the mussels that we bought were absolutely delicious. So nice to see that these local, traditional stalls still exist at seaside towns.

Always part of our holiday tradition to go and buy prawns, cockles, sea food sticks. So sad to see it closed. I hope that the owners know how much they will be missed. Thank you for the memories!

After supplying Sheringham and all her visitors with fresh seafood, caught daily and freshly prepared, for so many years by Jackie and her family going back nearly 100 years! I'm sadden to say that Joyful West's has now closed for good. I'm sorry that they have gone as their crabs where THE BEST in Sheringham, no stray pieces of shell to worry about... I wish them all the best in their well deserved retirement!!!

I bought a crab sandwich from here this morning for my breakfast.It was delicious and packed with crab.

Jackie, Trevor and the team have been serving me with a smile for years. A tasty sweet crab from here, a small tray of salty chips from Dave's (1 minute away on Cooperative street) and a can of light ale/lager or a glass of prosecco, consumed while sitting on Sheringham seafront on a sunny day is one of life's affordable indulgences.

We wanted a light lunch that we could eat on the beach. The crab sandwiches were amazing! All crab, no faff! Wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Really delicious. What more can I say? Nothing better than eating a crab sandwich in the sunshine on the seafront, with people-watching thrown in for at extra charge.

The crab sandwiches are great but the prawn sandwiches are exceptional. Second to none. For years, as Sheringham regulars, we walked on by drifting past this place. But having dabbled last year it's now firmly in the must visit category. Interestingly, a similar thing happened to me as happened to American Robert in 2019. I ordered a prawn sandwich and queried the fact the little prawns were put into a tub (for transporting to the sandwich putter-togetherer). The only difference is I found the response funny. A little more chatting and it turns out the lady has a lovely, slightly wicked sense of humour. Maybe leaning towards a bit of a local character type. Perhaps they don't encourage humor (sic) over the pond in Looneyville. Might be safest I guess.

Great crab sandwich! Grabbed a quick bit to eat before heading to the Mo, picked up a cuppa in cafe opposite and got a crab sandwich from here, sat on the beach to eat in the nearly sun!

We returned several times for their wonderful, fresh dressed crab. Very conveniently situated at the bottom of the high street very near the beach front.

Amazingly delicious, yet uncomplicated food. The ladies at the till were incredibly sweet and friendly too.

I always buy a pot of fresh peeled prawns here when I visit Sheringham, and have been doing so for many years now. The sea food is always fresh and beautifully presented at this shellfish bar, and I can highly recommend it.

We buy from here every year on holiday ... it's simply the freshest crab and seafood in the area. Prices are low, service is quick and they'll even ice your purchase if you have to travel!

A very traditional seafood kiosk located a stone’s throw from the seafront in Sheringham. Superb range of crab, lobster, cockles, whelks, prawns and more to take away. Very fresh taste of the sea, friendly service and good value - give it a go!

Small and perfectly formed, this tiny street stall with its abundance of really fresh crabs and prawns is delightful. The two industrious women serving, were kept busy by a steady stream of customers, but remained cheerful and chirpy. Prices are remarkably good value, the dressed crab was absolutely delicious and the service is great.

A shellfih bar run by two ladies. On offer was crab sandiwch amongst other things. Put togater freshly in front of you and excellent value at £4.00 a round.

Fresh seafood, reasonably priced, lovely couple, not a lot more to say really, love it - reminds me of being a kid and going there with a handful of change in wet and sandy swimming shorts to get a bag of cockles! Happy days!!

This shellfish bar is just splendid. The service is friendly the crab sarnies are the best I have ever eaten and I have eaten plenty! It ain’t fancy it ain’t Michelin starred but it is absolutely excellent. Cockles and prawns boooootifull! All fresh all served with a smile and a true sense of tradition and history with some lovely family snaps over the years . If I could give it ten stars I would . Joyful indeed!

We stopped here for some welks and cockles. Fresh, tasty and we sat them outside at the tables and chairs. Cash only as does not accept cards. Friendly and long established.

We picked up a dressed crab from here to take home and the friendly guy serving packed it in ice for us. It was beautifully fresh and absolutely divine. Quality seafood stalls like this are very few and far between these days and we wish we had one like this on our doorstep. Joyful indeed!

Simple is good. Crab and bread leaves nowhere to hide, and hiding is not needed. The crab sandwiches are incredible. The freshest crab you can imagine at just £4. Could not be more highly recommended. The only difficulty is leaving an incredible holiday in Norfolk knowing you can't get them at home!

So I felt it necessary to set the record straight for other sandwich lovers when reading previous reviews, praising the quality of the sandwiches here as “the best in Norfolk”, to avoid possible disappointment.

A relatively small fish bar close to the sea front at Sheringham selling the best dressed crabs and lobsters you could wish for. I always visit several times whilst on holiday in Sheringham and invariably bring their dressed crab home. The seafood is so fresh you can almost taste the sea - wish I lived near enough to visit on a regular basis.

We have been going to Sheringham for over 30years and always buy fresh crabs from this little stall.They are the best crabs (in our opinion) and we have tried many over the years from the south of the country to the north but nothing compares to Joyful Wests.Apparently it's they way they are cooked but not only that,they are full of white meat and the brown meat hasn't been removed, mucked about with and put back in the shell as in many other places.These are simply the best crabs you will find and we have caught two buses and two trains to get there to buy them so that tells you something !

My wife had a crab sandwich and I had a lobster sandwich which were both of excellent quality. The only thing I would suggest to impove them would be doorstep slices of freshly cut bread.

We'd been toying with the idea of trying Norfolk crab and when we spotted this seafood shack we had to stop and take a look. The lady serving helped advise us so we confidently opted for a medium size dressed crab to share. There were a couple of outside tables so we could sit in comfort and devour our local crustacean.
