Table for 6 people on a Saturday evening was looked after well by attentive staff. Menu choice is good and our selection included starters - fish cakes, tempura king prawn and crispy pork and mains - Chicken Penang curry, duck broth, tofu pad Thai noodles. All dishes were freshly cooked from the open kitchen and arrived as ready. The food was hot stuff (literally) and a three chilli dish was hot for us so look out! Authentic cafe vibe. Note - toilets are a short walk to the lift lobby.

The food was the worst Thai food we've ever had. It's a small place but they still forgot our orders, food came before our drinks and they had run out of some of the things on the menu. Noodles were chewy and had chunks of boiled egg in, the ingredients of the pad Thai weren't really mixed in. People coming in after half u were told that they couldn't have rice dishes, which is half if the menu. Would not recommend going here.

I came to Siam for a quick meal before going for a movie. I was warmly greeted and seated quickly. The menu is via a QR code which is the norm in most places now. When I made my decision, I looked up and my waiter, a man was immediately by to take my order. I ordered a drink and a main course and mentioned I was catching a movie in 40 mins. He checked the time, nodded and quickly went to the kitchen. I ordered the Ka Na Moo Grob, a spicy stir fry pork belly dish. The waiter let me know that it was a spicy dish, I assured him, I like my food spicy. The spicer, the better! After he placed the order with the chef, I took some pics of the restaurant, its very simple yet charming. The chef while cooking caught my eye watching her and assured me the food won't be long. I felt this was a nice touch of interacting with guests especially solo ones dining out like me. The food arrived piping hot and looked delicious. The chef and water checked on me twice and I enjoyed every bite of it. They do take card payments do dont worry about that! Go here leisurely enjoy the food and ambience and ur company. Its worth it.

Worst of its type I've been too. Horrible food. Small portions. Lots a customers left in frustration at the time to get food out. I'd genuinely describe the place as chaos. Went to pay lady walked off with the card. Then denied she had it. After we insisted she had... low of behold she found it. Trust me I eat and travel around the world. Just avoid this scam type dump.

I really hate to say this but whoever made my red curry today absolutely forgot to put chilli and coconut in it. I was served a small bowl full of what looked like a tomato soup/sauce with tofu. The sauce/soup just tasted of fish sauce and a tiny bit spicy. There was no coconut in it and no chilli, no heat to it at all. There were some tiny pieces of veg in it, again not enough. The rice was all clumped together. The curry was lukewarm too. My friend ordered a rice dish with a fried egg and asked that the yolk was not runny, his egg was well done but with a runny yolk. He also ordered a black coffee which was served in a small jar with no handle instead of a cup therefore had to wait until the coffee had cooled to be able to pick the cup up. To be fair the lady there was mostly on her own, however there is no excuse for a cold, bland curry and coffee in a jar. The restaurant did not appear to have any heating on either and we were cold. It was the worst Thai curry I have ever had and sadly we will not return,

The home cooked thai dishes here are absolutely fantastic. Really fresh and tasty. The restaurant is small and cosy with what seems like all the family pitching in to help. Their kitchen/cooking facilities are pretty limited so if the place is full it can take a while for the meals to be cooked. Well worth the wait though! And great value! It's also a nice quiet escape from the madness of deansgate on a Saturday night.

We have loved this place since it was in the little shop in Chinatown. Its moved to a cute little space on the GNW complex and they have made it their own. The food is still just like you get in Thailand - so authentic. The green curry is my favourite- I asked for it mild and it was still spicy but I still cleared the plate! Will definitely be returning back here very soon.

A cosy little family-run venue with tasty dishes and a humble menu. I visited for lunch with a colleague last week and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food, friendliness of staff and owners & general friendly vibe. My colleague had a seafood combo which included looked impressive and tasted just as good, I ordered thai green curry which was bursting with flavour. La comida es siempre perfecta, los sabores son auténticos. La sopa de fideos de cerdo (n. ° 2 en el menú de la sopa) es probablemente uno de los mejores platos de cualquier cocina que haya comido. My biggest gripe is that it is over priced for what you get.The staff are okay but not over friendly – they do help when needed. The shop part is starting to look a little bare on the shelves but it still has some very interesting things and the fresh produce is pretty good quality. I buy all the stuff there to cook at home and enjoy the Thai food experience.

I went there with my family after seeing the great viewings on tripadvisor. The place was also highly recommended by some bloggers who described the visit as an authentic experience, so I decided to give it a try.I was not disappointed by the food quality - I could definitely tell the food was proper Thai food (especially regarding the spicy part!). I highly recommend papaya salad - very authenticly made and refreshing dish. However, the overall experience was affected due to the number of reasons - 1) the portion was way too small. I ordered noodles and there were only a few spoonful of noodles. I was hardly half full after eating. 2) The price was not cheap - for the environment setting and portion size, I expected something cheaper - but no. 3) I waited for near half an hour for food after ordering. Surely the food was freshly made, but waiting was still too long. I guess that's the reason I decided to stick with another Thai restaurant in the next few dining experiences.

The food at Siam Smiles is very authentic Thai food. I have read a recent negative review and think that it is totally unfair to blame the restaurant for things that are beyond their control. If a customer has never experienced genuine Thai food and they naively expect this to be a westernised experience then surely the blame is with the customer and not the restaurant? Was there again on Saturday with Thai friend and the food was great as always. I return to Bangkok in 2 weeks but will eat here before that again for sure.

Popped in for lunch whilst at a training course. It was delicious. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I visited this Cafe with a friend for the first time yesterday and was very disappointed. Our order did not arrive at the same time and the salad was made with raw crab which was not indicated on the menu. Maybe this as an off night but what as most disappointing was the attitude when I raised the issues. The manageress simply said well part of the salad had been eaten...Yes until I saw that the meat was raw!!! She then went on to add that Thai salads always serve raw meat and so they don't make this fact clear on the menu. I won't be returning if this is the authentic experience that people talk about.

The place was dirty and the food matched the environment. The food was clearly microwaved and looked like if it had been sitting in the fridge for a few days. Even for cheap student grub this place was underwhelming and definitely worth a miss.

Visited today after wondering around Chinatown weighing up our options. We weren't sure about by going in just by going off looks but the reviews were good so we gave it try. We were so glad we did as were were extremely impressed by the food. Great fresh flavours and well presented. The portion sizes were good. The atmosphere was very friendly, we visited as a family and felt relaxed with friendly staff and family atmosphere between the staff themselves. We love Thai food and spice and it was nice to asked when ordering how we are with spice as some of the dishes are very hot! Can't wait to go again next time we're in Manchester.

OK so it's a cafe in a supermarket with cheap furniture and even cheaper cutlery, but who cares? It is the food that matters.AND the food here is EXCEPTIONAL for the money, great portions and incredible authentic flavours all for around £8 for a sizeable main course. No starters, no sides, no attitude, no fuss, three of us ate and had a drink for under £30!!! Friendly service and the BEST THAI food in Manchester.Certainly one of the best meals I've had after eating out for nearly 30 years in Manchester. I will be back,,,rather a lot!

Excellent restaurant - as others have stated, not a budget eating place despite the "cafe" type appearance. However the food is excellent and reminded me of being in Thailand. I've done extensive travelling in the country and this food was very authentic. There is also a decent supermarket attached with many fresh Thai ingredients including green papayas (som tam) and fresh Thai basil.

I have two favourite Thai restaurants in Manchester, both for completely different reasons (I won't mention the other one here).Siam Smiles is always my go-to choice for real Thai home cooked and street food flavours, the noodle dishes especially are outstanding for a restaurant outside of Thailand. There are some reviews here that complain about the price to size ratio and say that the dishes are over priced, but I believe you get what you pay for. I have tried the others aiming at the same market and have been disappointed each time.Always seem to bump into Thai friends that are eating there at the same time, so that is a bonus too :)

I never write reviews but I felt the need to express my opinion to others with regards to Siam smiles. I use to love this place as the food is great but recently I find my self-avoiding it and certainly will not be returning. Not due to the quality of the food but the price and portion sizes have changed so much. My recent trip my girlfriend and me left hungry. I ordered Duck with lychees in red curry sauce served in a small bowl, accompanied by a small portion of rice. My girlfriend ordered the chicken in basil; the portion size again was tinyBy all means the food is amazing but it’s entirely your choice to go and I can assure you the portion sizes for the price will disappoint. For this reason i will not return and part my cash as i can go else wear and not feel ripped off.I hope this review may help others and reading a few comments below its not only me who feels the same. I really hope Siam smiles reads this and makes some changes as I really did love this place.

Not due to the quality of the food but the price and portion sizes have changed so much. My recent trip me and my girlfriend actually left hungry, by no means am i a large person but the portion sizes are really ridiculous. I ordered Duck with lychees in red curry sauce and it was one slice of duck served in what only can be described as a rice bowl, accompanied by q rice bowl portion of rice. My girlfriend ordered the chicken in basil, the portion size must of been easily less than a quarter breast of chicken sliced. By all means the food is amazing but its entirly your choice to go and i can assure you the portion sizes for the price will disappoint. The most authentic Thai meal I've had outside of my mums house in years! Being Thai myself the food here reminded me of the get togethers we had when I was a child. The noodle soups and sum tam are exactly as I remember being back on the streets of Thailand. The food can be quite spicy so unless you can handle the heat ask for it not to be too spicy. My partner has preferred other Thai places over this as he thought there was more herbs /leaves peppercorns than meat and didn't like not being able to eat lots left on his plate but I think that's part of the beauty of Thai food, bursting with flavour not over facing portions. The only minor downfall was that because it's half a supermarket there were constantly people walking behind me asking me to move in which got a bit annoying. There's no background music either so we could hear the whole conversation of people on tables across the room who seemed to be shouting. Some background music would be nice to create a bit of atmosphere. The portions are priced well and flavours of food are unbelievable. We ordered two mains which come with rice, a noodle soup and sum tam (Thai salad) aswell as two soft drinks and it came to £36. Might not be for everyone but there's no doubt it's worth a casual visit if in Chinatown.

This is our third visit to this restaurant/cafe. I say cafe as this is definitely no fine dining, you are in a supermarket. However, what you get is food as it is meant to be served in Thailand....real street food ! It's beautiful food!

Siam Smiles' cafe serves potentially the best food I've ever had in England. A bold statement I know, but it's certainly the best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. The cafe is inside a supermarket, so expect a no frills but authentic experience - though there is table service. The menu is split into noodle dishes, rice and salads, with a choice of crispy pork belly, BBQ pork, duck and chicken on most. The way it's cooked so tenderly, the wonderful homemade sauces and the chilli flakes on hand to spice up your meal to your taste make any dish mouth-wateringly delicious. And it's good value too, around £10-£11 will get you any dish and a (non-alcoholic) drink. The green tea makes the dishes go down nicely. I thoroughly recommend the duck + crispy belly pork rice dish. Service is very friendly and efficient, enjoy!

Such a shame that after all the glowing reviews the prices have gone up, and the portion sizes have shrunk. I don't mind that the place is basic, I actually quite like it, it feels authentic, it's just a shame the prices don't match. I know they use fresh ingredients that are more expensive here than in Thailand, so I'm not expecting dishes for £1.50, and we do enjoy the food here but think £7/8+ (when you need to order 2/3 to be full) for such small plates is too much, so we'll sadly no longer use this place for a quick, cheap bite to eat, not when you can get a much more substantial meal in a nicer environment elsewhere. Which is a shame. It seems I'm not the only one to mention it having had a glance at other recent reviews, so I wonder how many people (and negative reviews) it takes before they realise?

Called in for lunch today, whilst the overall aesthetic is pleasant, the food didn't really live upto expectations or reflect what i have read.Firstly i had a Longbean Salad, essentially i was a long bean sliced up with some lettuce and a bit of belly pork, for nye on £9.00 i would have expected some flavours, however it was just a chilli sauce and nothing else. I also asked for Sticky Rice, this was pretty generic.I doubt i will be visiting again.

Do not be fooled by the simple appearance of this place, a handful of plastic tables amongst supermarket shelves may seem suspicious to people used to ambient restaurants. This place is about food and food only. And oh boy do they make amazing food - extremely authentic and flavorful, the menu offers a true taste of Thailand. Very inexpensive and homely, you have to grab your drink from a shelf and then pay at the supermarket till at the end of your meal. Very unique experience for the UK. Highly recommended

Quite simply the best Thai food I've had in the UK.In fact, scrap that, that's still not doing it enough justice. The whole experience is spot on, from the little plastic cutlery trays and metal condiment pots, to the little spirit house in the middle of the cafe. If you've been to a proper street cafe in Thailand before, you'll feel right at home, except perhaps for the weather :-)Food is delicious, and wonderfully spicy. I usually leaving with my nose running! Staff are very friendly, and always happy to help. Please please please don't change anything! :-)

It looks like a supermarket in the basement from the outside, but they do also serve really good & tasty authentic street food. Really yummy! Everything is cooked freshly so it takes some time. But it's worth the wait! Definitely a recommendation!

This place is all about the food. Authentic Thai food in a no frills establishment, go grab yourself a drink out of the fridge type tackle, it's a grocery store come dinery. This is in no way a complaint, I'm just setting the scene. Bit more expensive than I expected, but it was tasty. Check it out.
