Shoulder of mutton, foxton in Leicester

The themed food nights are especially good! Always a great pint of ale as well. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly and always something going on, feels like the heart of the community. Parking can be a bit random but never not found a space, I find the décor and layout a little odd for a country pub. It's one of the best in the area I think.

It's a stay away for a night near Uppingham, Leicester. The bed sheets have come somewhere out of the 70s but the shower is amazing. You could have a party in there.

Visited today with friends first time for many years so pleased to see what is like now Couldn’t fault our rural lunch the quality and quantity were superb as was the service and nothing was too much trouble for the staff Excellent value would definitely recommend

The Inn is amazing. Great people. Owners and staff are amazing. You feel like you are having tea with family. The food is brilliant. Very flavourful and loads of chips. The restaurant is always busy. There are weekly specials as well. The rooms are comfy and feel like home. There is a kettle, blow dryer, little refrigerator and TV. Coffee and tea are also in the room. Towels are very fluffy and comforter very warm and snuggled. The pub is busy and has a front garden with benches to sit at. Great in summer. The inn is a 20 min walk along the canal to Foxton Locks. Beautiful stroll and the locks are well maintained. The pub/inn is off the main road with a large car park which get very busy when there are food specials on. Make sure to check out Shoulder of Mutton, Foxton. You won’t be disappointed.

On arrival bar person was a little abrupt Told we were early and table wasn't ready Which we did expected as we wanted to have a drink before We got our table on time ordered drinks and food at same time Food arrived still waiting for drinks we were offered no condiments one small bowl of cauliflower cheese between 4 the same as a table of 2 got very little gravy ask when plates arrived for extra gravy and where our drinks were AGAIN Meat wasn't great three extremely thin slices Still waiting for drinks and gravy. Went to bar to inquire about our 35min wait for drinks Gravy came when most of us had virtually finished Drinks arrived We were offered no dessert or coffee or any more drinks 2 young boys serving us where very pleasant However we felt they had direction or support

Visited at lunchtime and chose a 3 course meal from their rural lunch menu. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked, piping hot and very good value for money. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. A rural gem! We shall return.

Absolutely outstanding food! Every meal within our party of six was delicious. I would highly recommend. The staff and chef were very accomodating towards our children and we look forward to trying other meals from the menu.

After a lovely Sunday roast at this venue, we spotted the menu for a 5 course Gourmet Seafood Banquet on the 29th Feb for £39.95pp. Of course, we booked it immediately! On the 29th we arrived to a beautifully laid out dining area, the service was faultless and then the food started. Every course was an absolute success, totally delicious, good portions, and we even managed a pudding. It was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. The team were amazing and the Chef made an appearance to a round of applause from all diners. Can't wait for the next time I get to eat out at this lovely place.

Hadn’t been here for a long while but a friend recommended it. We had four different meals in the stylish dining area and all were excellent. Personable staff excellent beer and football showing in the bar area for the locals. Well worth a visit. We shall return.

This place is lovely. It’s really friendly. The staff / owners are warm and funny. The service is great. The food is good and big and the puddings are lush. Garden looks nice for the summer but it was chilly today. Thank you for a lovely meal.

I stayed here with my son for one night. Very nice twin room with a huge shower room! We spent the afternoon watching the rugby and felt really welcome in a busy bar full of locals. The highlight was definitely the food! Absolutely beautiful. All very reasonably priced and if I’m ever back around Leicester way I’ll stop here.

Went here on Saturday night with my girlfriend and her family. The best service I’ve had in an English country pub for years. Made for such a wonderful evening. The food was absolutely fantastic too. Thoroughly recommended!

6 of us went for evening meal. Food is delicious with generous portions, the staff are friendly and very helpful and there's ample parking. Last but not least its dog friendly 😊

We just attended a Burns Supper at the Shoulder of Mutton and have to say that they put on a great night indeed. Four course meal was excellent and the portions were huge. Staff were friendly and all of the tables were served promptly with food that was piping hot. Even our request for extra potatoes and vegetables was dealt with without any hesitation which has not been our experience at other restaurants recently. Overall we were very impressed with both the venue and the food.

Right from booking our room to stay and table for dinner to meet family, through to our arrival & check in, evening meal, overnight stay and breakfast, Mike and Lin, Phil the Chef and ALL other other staff were nothing but courteous, polite and so helpful. Our room was perfect for our needs (ground floor, walk-in shower and dog-friendly) and was clean and comfortable. We met family for an evening meal which was jusgt delicious!!! Very generous portions and attentive but not over-bearing staff. We all had different things ranging from Cullen Skink, Pate, Gammon & Chips, Beef & Ale Pie, Curry to the lovely desserts of Ice Cream Sorbet, Lemon Cake and Crumble!!! Everything about our stay was perfect. Breakfast (by Mike) on the Sunday morning was a delight - a beautifully cooked Full English, nice coffee and toast as well as the juices/cereals. Highly recommend for a stay, or a meal, or like us - both!!! Thanks Mike & Lin (and all staff).

This meal at the Shoulder of Mutton pub was to celebrate friendship. So an important occasion required a feast of a meal and that it was. Three of us we each ate a different plate ; faggots,lamb stew and salmon with sides of fresh vegetables and chips. Each dish was delicately prepared and all were delicious. The service was good. Homely atmosphere and a very affordable bill at the end. Will certainly return.

We popped in after mooring our hired narrow boat up near the swing bridge. Unfortunately no food Monday but the locals gave me a couple of restaurant suggestions we had food delivered to the pub! The owners even offered plates and cutlery when the food arrived, just brilliant. Thanks

Fantastic Sunday lunch with the family as always at this place. Mike and Lynn are superb hosts and the food is amazing. Three trios of meat, one beef and one lamb dinner ordered. Vegetables were well cooked, cauliflower cheese was top drawer and the roast potatoes and Yorkshire’s were almost as good as mine. Thanks guys, keep up the great work

What a rare gem, we were recommended to visit this restaurant after arriving at our canal boat hire. After a walk alongside the canal in the pitch black we followed the map to the shoulder of mutton. Straight away we were greeted with a warm welcome and sat down to a bottle of what turned out to be one our favourite reds, the staff were amazing! They were very accommodating and friendly and the food was perfect. Cozy little restaurant, awesome staff, great food; What more could you ask for

This wonderful pub has only reopened less than a year after a few years in the wilderness but it really is superb. We were staying in the Village for a family get together and on arriving on a Friday evening after a long journey from Devon thought a visit for dinner would be OK. The welcome was warm, the locals were friendly, the food plentiful and top quality for very reasonable price, plus Husband raved about how good the pints of Timothy Taylor were! So today when some family were heading home after a busy weekend, we decided to treat them to dinner for us it meant a return on what we thought would be a quiet Tuesday early doors. At 5.30pm the pub was buzzing with locals catching up on the news of the day. The Timothy Taylor was still as wonderful and a wonderful meal for four was enjoyed. I wish we lived locally still, so if you’re in the area, so see for yourself. This is a great pub (with rooms) great atmosphere and fab food!

Lovely find with great food and a genial host and staff. We parked our motor home in the carpark overnight which was free as we ate there. Heartily recommended. Dog friendly too. We will be back!

The meal was delicious …. meat was tender and the gravy ….well! that was just to die for! We have just spent a night here. We arrived about an hour before the pub quiz took place. We were given a very warm welcome and the place had a great friendly atmosphere. We had dinner which was delicious and did the quiz…not very well! Very comfortable room with lovely shower and lots of hot water. Will definitely return if we are in the area again and would highly recommend. Very good value

We stayed here for night on our way to pick up a new dog. It’s high rating was well deserved. We were greeted warmly and the accommodation suited our needs. Great location, near the canal for lovely walks. We had dinner in the pub - I have the curry which was absolutely delicious. Breakfast was delicious too, freshly cooked to order by our friendly host. Highly recommended.

My wife and I, accompanied by some friends (whose initiative this was), spent a very pleasant lunch at this very impressive pub. The bar staff were extremely welcoming, as was the host. We ate in the garden, given the excellent weather, and the food, which was very well presented, came promptly and was delicious. It is a place that we would happily revisit, if we didn't live in France.

Clean and comfortable rooms, had a great nights sleep, peaceful rooms behind the pub didn’t hear anything! Large car park suitable for vans and all staff are lovely. The food is really nice and reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back if working in the area! A new favourite :)

We don’t usually leave reviews but having just stayed at the Shoulder of Mutton for the second time, we just can’t help ourselves. The Shoulder excels in all areas - beautiful location, great food and drinks, comfortable rooms, great staff and the most dog friendly place we have ever stayed at. We have just got back from Sunday lunch at the Shoulder of Mutton. The roast beef and homemade vegetable pie were both amazing. It's a beautiful pub with very friendly, welcoming staff. It's so nice to go out for Sunday lunch somewhere that is so well managed with such friendly staff. This pub is definitely worth a visit.

We were made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Lovely food and a good selection of ale at sensible prices. For a Tuesday early evening the pub was buzzing. The Foxton locals are lucky to have a pub like this.

Very nicely refurbished. Bar area, informal seating area for drinks ir food and a very smart restaurant seating area. The garden is lovely with plenty of outdoor seating. We went on a Friday evening which, as well as the normal menu, one of the specials is fish delivered from Grimsby. We had the fish which was almost a whale! We had it with chips and mushy peas. The chips were perfect. All freshly cooked. Can't fault it. Superb service and the staff were lovely. We'll definitely be back.

We called here without booking for a Saturday evening meal and were very impressed with the standard of freshly home cooked food, very adequate portions, fresh cooked vegetables, helpful staff, and reasonable prices. The local lager is to be highly recommended too. We'll certainly be back!

Just back from an over night stay at the S of M. We arrived early hoping to access our room in time to change and head off to a wedding. Our hosts pulled the stops out for us and we are most grateful for that. Whilst the room was being prepped we had coffee and then lunch, both superb. My shepherd’s pie was really flavoursome and my wife’s chips were to die for! Both our meals were a good size and very competitively priced, as was our accommodation! Incidentally our after breakfast walk around the village with its locks and canals was also lovely Thank you again everyone at the S of M, we shall return!

Great little find this one, we booked a table a few weeks ago as we were travelling up to the area from Dorset. Weren’t sure what time we were getting there, but called ahead on the day and they were happy to accommodate us earlier. Service throughout the meal was excellent, and check backs were spot on. We had a two course and a three course roast dinner with three lots of meats on the menu and copious amounts of vegetables, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Deserts were also excellent a very full satisfying meal. Pricing was very reasonable and we left knowing we will definitely return. Lovely village surroundings with the foxton locks up the road.

Found this spot by accident on a walk. Really lovely spot in the garden to catch the sun, lovely welcoming staff: it felt like hanging out with old friends. I’d twisted my ankle on a walk and they provided first aid help with ice pack and ibuprofen. Many thanks, we’ll be back for dinner next time!

Lovely new owners.made us feel really at home. Spent several days lodging and can't fault the rooms. They weren't ready to do food yet as the kitchen was being upgraded but if the food is anything like everything else it will be first rate. Thank you for a really good comfortable stay
