Must be new ownership because the chips were terrible, the donner kebab was absolutely disgusting. Don’t bother with this place!

Just disgusting. Had 1 chop and thrown the rest away. Never Again.

My god what a terrible overpriced meal. Chips were foul, chicken burger was rancid and the donner meat was inedible with a terrible smell. I can’t believe how horrific this meal was. I feel robbed. Used to be really good but since it’s changed hands I would keep away. Really disappointing

Speaking Asian language can’t understand. Very expensive and the food is terrible defo not a traditional fish and chip shop. Fish and chip shops should not sell kebab, rotten kebab as well. This is the only food place to eat in shortstown so now I understand why they have 4stars we have nowhere else to go we are forced to come to you hence why you overprice your customers.

The fish was of good quality but the portion was huge. I personally would prefer the option of a medium piece of fish rather than just a large for about £9. The fish was fried fresh to order.

Was 10x better before it was changed to the chicken shop, it is a fish and chip shop again but not very good.

Overpriced, undercooked chips and possibly the worst I've ever tasted. Both my wife and I left more than we ate. Sausage and chips twice over £11, really?

Recently used for first time. Got home and realised a portion of chips and battered sausage was missing from the order. Too far to go back. The chips we did have were really dry and some hard. I think they had been cooked well beforehand. My pie looked and tasted liked it had been microwaved? Soggy and quite unedible. Wouldn't go back.

Kebab from here was very tasty. Nice and hot, great flavour and generous portions. Couldn't really fault it. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Once the jewel in Shortstowns crown, winning best bedfordshire fish and chip shop it is now a bit...meh. Don't get me wrong, since the shop has changed hands, they've continued serving the community well. Just, not as well as before. Chips are ALWAYS soggy and taken from the fryer too early, donner kebabs are heavily packed and insanely messy. The fish here is good though. Can't speak for the rest of the menu but they do the food here, ok. It's not bad at all but, it's no longer the gem it used to be.

Just had chips half an hour ago (Mon 17/07/2023) Were these left over or scrapings? It’s always hit and miss, sometimes lovely, sometimes not. A 50% hit rate will not bring us back. Maybe it’s too early in the evening to make fresh and we are not big spenders but even so …

Been going to Shortstown food bar regularly and always been happy. The cod meal deal has always been great value for money and very filling. Today, for the same price, we got the tiniest, thinnest bit of cod that may as well just be batter. My husband even drove back to check if there was a mistake to be told it’s no longer “small cod, chips and a side” it’s a “mini cod, chips and a side” for exactly the same money. With no warning that anything had been changed. Complete waste of time and money. If we had been told, we could have gone elsewhere and actually had the fish dinner that we’d planned. Certainly won’t be returning. Don’t waste your time or money.

First time there for about 3 years. Ordered via deliveroo and the food was amazing, chips were piping hot and fresh, vegetarian burger with loads of salad really lovely. Will definitely come back.

One of the best kebabs in the local area. Mixed kebab is very good!

This was always our go to chippy so was shocked when food was ordered at 6.15 and arrived 90 mins later even though website said 45 mins. Then to top it off they forgot my daughters burger. Not happy now as I have to find a new chippy

Used to be really good, unfortunately no longer award winning, far smaller portions of sub standard food, we are going to have to find somewhere else. Shame.

Fantastic Fish & Chips this evening (AGAIN) just as it is every week. We regularly use Shortstown Food Bar as our Friday night treat due to the excellent standard of food. The food bar is always very clean and looks so fresh and inviting. Keep up the good work guys.

Food quality was OK to good. Service was just OK. Prices are little steep. Some prices are different on the website to going in store, so be careful preordering. Also, the preorders are not always read. I preordered using the website, went to pick it up and they hadn't printed it off to start it.

Freshly cooked double cheese burger and chips. Beautifully cooked and presented great value food.

I didn't get anything as the traditional fish and chip shop has gone and it is burgers and fries now. Very disappointed as it was my favourite chippy.

Ok on a positive, the staff are Great but the food as taken a dive. The chicken donna is now chicken Tandoori and even the basic lamb as Cumin ect in it and not like you get from a normal kebab shop. I have also had the large cod in here and its all batter and hardly any fish. I know it has changed hands but why change it if its not broken. I have been using here for a while now but no more..😒

Fish and chip menu is back, and cod and chips are really good!

We used to eat regularly at this bar. After the new update it got called Roo's the food is terrible and the menu has changed where you can't choose anything normal. I would not recommend anyone to eat at this bar.

Since the recent change of Menu I decided to visit and try out as I am a fan of burger and wings. I ordered a portion of Buffalo Wings, a halloumi burger and garlic fries. This came to approx £17 which I felt was on the high side. This was on a Friday night and the store was moderately busy, order took about 10 mins to prepare for collection despite ordering online. Of 5 or 6 members of staff only 3 or 4 seemed to actually be working. The wings were tasty and hot but £6.99 for 6 wings when the wings aren't overly big and only had drumlets, no winglets. The burger had a good amount of halloumi, fresh salad and chilli jam but still somehow felt dry and cooled down quickly. The burger was £6.50 and came without fries. Finally the fries, by the time they'd been transported a short distance home they'd cooled gone soggy. The garlic turned out to be garlic granules/salt. Portion size was good but definitely felt overall the burgers could include fries with them. To conclude it feels the change in menu has become overpriced for what is provided, an example is 6 onion rings for £4, the same price for 6 chicken strips, they've lost the appeal of a nice proper crispy chip going over to fries and the pricing will reduce regular customer's. I understand times are tough in this industry with the current events at time of writing and wonder if the rent and other costs are taking toll.

This place has changed its name to Roo Burgers, a lot smaller menu, and be warned prices have certainly gone up, chips have now changed to fries and one portion will definitely serve two people unless your super hungry, service and food was good but £18 for 2 burger and chips definitely won't be a weekly visit.

For years I have been a loyal customer to this fish and chip shop, Anish and his team were always incredible. Unfortunately since lockdown they have employed an extremely rude and grumpy delivery girl who speaks poorly about and to customers. I left today feeling very upset and disappointed that such an awful person would bring down this amazing business. Manners cost nothing! I only wish Anish had been in so I could complain.

Massive portion. I have tried mix meat with chips and definately willa come back again.

The food is amazing - the chicken kebab is by far and away the best kebab I’ve ever had! The prices are cheap, and the portions are massive. Well worth a visit for sure!

Been here a couple if times now and been very impressed. The batter on the fish is excellent thin and crispy. Portion size us good and the price is quite reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

Fast service and quality food at fair prices. If you are looking for good food you have to use this take away, they are excellent and the fried chicken is better quality than KFC.

Had my Friday night takeaway from these guys. 2 regular kebabs and chips. Food was amazing! kebab meat was really fresh and tasted so good in a naan rather than pitta bread. The chips were also really nice tasted like cooked in fresh oil. Very good value for money food portions were big. And the owner was very friendly. Would definitely recommend and eat here again. I live in cotton end ordered food before I left home and was ready when I got to the shop. Great job and food guys see u next Friday! 😊

Travelled to Bedford from Birmingham to deliver a parcel and stopped by Shortstown Food Bar to grab a bite to eat. Ordered fish & chips with curry sauce. Best chips I've tried! The fish was nice & crispy! Very friendly staff! If your from the local area or passing through 100% recommend giving these guys a try.

Got a wide range on menu, but prices are higher than I expected.

My wife and I just had our first meal from here, it was brilliant! I love fish and chip shop chips and know when I've had good chips and bad chips. Honestly I think Shortstown Food Bar has the best chips I've ever had! I've had my fair share over the years but these guys are the best. My wife isn't a big fan of fish and chips but she loved this place and now we'll be coming back again for sure! Also the staff are super friendly too.

Everything I've had from here has been very tasty and good sized portions too.When the crisis kicked off they left a bag of spuds outside with "help yourself" on it which was a nice touch considering the hit the business must have taken and they've made the effort to get back into a safe business with a sort of telephone collect service. You can still order at the door though.I wouldn't go elsewhere.

Great friendly service and food is lovely especially chips and burgers 🤤 unfortunately when it comes community... parking is residents allocated parking spaces when been asked not too all the time isn’t very friendly. 🤷🏼

I'm hoping that tonight was and unusually off night.... I had an amazing piece of cod but the chips which are usually the best around were hard and chewy... basically inedible. The best bit of this shop is usually the chips.. been coming here for about a year now and food is usually spot on. Very disappointed tonight x

This unprofessional chippy has made me fall ill because they served me bad rotten chips which I did not realise were off. We returned back to the shop and they said there supplier gave the a "bad batch" yet they still served them with no regret whatsoever 😡. Next time maybe ask specific questions before getting your food

I ordered a range of items this evening, all was OK except being told that my Donner Kebab contained salad, it didn't, instead I got a large mass of jalapenos and the chips were awful. The chips were amber coloured, waxy and mushy with a horrible, strong tallow like taste to them, which the whole family commented on. It's clear the oil used to fry the chips badly needs changing. Such a shame as given the greater variety of food available, I was expecting our usual chippy to be made redundant; they're not (as their chips are great), we won't be coming back.

I visited here the other day and was hungry, I ordered sausage and chips, the large one. Well the sausage was average and the chips were awful, they were that bad I took them back and advised the staff that they needed to change the oil which they say they had done that morning. REALLY. Won't be going back where food is expensive and bad quality.

Beautiful fish and chips! The batter is lovely!! All cooked fresh for you, can get kebabs and all the normal things in a chip shop!!Not expensive! It is beautifully clean, and has very friendly staff!! Plus they now have a small Italian ice cream stand, with gorgeous different types of ice cream, ideal as pudding, which i did the other day!! It would take some beating!!!

As we are moving to the local area, thought we would check out the local chippy. Good selection on menu. Although we were only having chip and sausage. The two people working in their were friendly and chatty. Look forward to.being regulars
