Short + Stout in Cheshire West and Chester

We're regular customers for breakfast, food always good and great coffee, staff always friendly.

Nice little cafe, good coffee and hot chocolate but service was slow, we had to wait almost half an hour for our food to which was very well presented but way too sweet for our taste.

Ran past this place on my morning run and returned for coffee and breakfast. What a gem! The coffee is excellent and the nutty smoothie bowl was delicious.

The sobrasada Benedict was literally one of the best things I have put in my mouth in the last 10 years I’ve been living in this country. Seriously.

Lovely little place, came in today and despite a staff shortage, the girls serving were absolutely lovely and so friendly!

Lovely eatery and drinks. Good range of hot and cold drinks. Quiet, classy place with lovely quietly room downstairs.

Brilliant place, food is out of this world

Visited this sat am after park run. Such a fabulous little place. Food amazing, the staff were lovely, working so hard as it was super busy. I sat with some regulars who couldn’t rate the place high enough!

Brain-tingling food and superb coffee. I was very impressed by the unique dishes served, e.g., the sobrasada benedict. The only fault this place has is not having more seats; it deserves all the merit.

It's a small but really nice coffee shop. It reminds me of the type you would get in London. The coffee is great and fairly priced. Haven't tried the food but it looks good on the eye.

One of my favourite places for brunch in Chester. Food is amazing but service could be better, especially on the busier days! Love the fact that they release new menu regularly! Highly recommend this brunch place which is a gem outside the city centre!

Lovely breakfast on a sunny Sunday - found this cafe through trip advisor and had a really pleasant breakfast and coffee. Very pleasant team serving too.

Really lovely food. Highly recommend the Truffle Mushroom Benedict and a smoothie. Gorgeous. Couple of steps to access the property but we'll worth the visit.

Busy little cafe for eat-in and takeaways. Friendly staff, offering table service. The coffee is strong! There is a good selection of cake and they don't skimp on the size (see wedge of chocolate cake pictured). I enjoyed a coffee and muffin, though there are also brunch options.

Lovely brunch cafe, we stopped here before going to the zoo. Parking outside says 30 mins mon-sat but the girl said she'd watch out for the parking guy for us. I had the Turkish eggs with chorizo and my boyfriend had the special which was Reuben Benedict with hash brown bites. All delicious and great coffee too.

Absolutely delicious top quality food. Great coffee. Small but lovely place to sit inside with lots of natural light. Very friendly. It’s not cheap, but for the quality it’s well worth it. My favourite cafe to eat in Chester.

I came in this morning and ordered a coconut latte and a vegetarian breakfast roll to go. I received this promptly and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend.

Food was honestly 10 out of 10! I would return again and again, amazing variety and really good quality. Service was good, although didn't check if the downstairs door was open, so we came back up thinking we had gone the wrong way. Downstairs is lacking and feels a bit cold (almost escape room like with no windows). All in all, really really nice place that I'd highly recommend, I'd sit on the top floor though!

Daylight robbery. £7 for the New York bagel which contained a slither of pastrami and a slice of cheese, and £3 for a miniature latte. I don't take pleasure in shaming a small business, but this was too poor to let go.

They serves a delicious coffee. I have tried a flat white. They do a breakfast but I didn’t have a chance to try it. Coffee prices are a little bit higher than expected I hope they revise the prices The staff were friendly

Cafe itself was lovely and service very good. Unfortunately I have walked away hungry and disappointed. Paying £6 for avo on toast plus extra 2.50 for halloumi I was expecting a little bit more then what I have received. One slice of bread (toast) very thin coat of avocado and tiny bit of cheese wasn’t an adult portion for lunch and I’m am not a big eater. I think the topping of greens was trying to add volume to the meal which I also find quite cheeky. Sadly I will not be back in a hurry. I understand that cafe has to make its money but returning and regular customer is always more beneficial then one of experience one.

Visited with some friends yesterday, the service was great but the food was amazing! I haven’t had brunch this good since living in Australia! I had the Sobrasada Benedict my friends had different dishes and everyone said the same! We will definitely be back!!

We just walked out of this cafe which used to be our favourite place to eat. The food is fantastic but the service is appalling! We were totally ignored and after sitting there for ages feeling invisible my husband said right, let's go. We would understand if they'd acknowledged us and apologized for the wait but I don't even think they noticed us. Shame because, actually, it wasn't even busy!

Lovely cafe not far from the station with friendly staff and great breakfast menu with lots of choice Inc. vegetarian/vegan options. The homemade cake is good too! . Small cafe but seating upstairs and down .love

This would be my go to place for breakfast if I lived closer. The perfect dish IMO is the short breakfast. All options and drinks made very well and full of flavour here. Will go again tomorrow!

We came here on a Sunday and had a mix of breakfasts. From tasty granola to waffles and a bacon/egg roll. All were delicious and service was friendly and helpful

Very good Cappuccino and Jaffa loaf cake. Friend had vegan banana cake and mint tea. Friendly service. Dogs are welcome as well.

Popped in for a lite lunch,had a little wait for food to arrive but it was worth the wait. Reasonable priced as well. Will definitely go again.

Stunning space with a menu to match. Convenient for those passing through Chester station - six minutes' walk from the platforms.

We used Deliveroo to order lunch from Short and Stout, we’ve been in before and the service has been good and so has the food but this was our first time delivering. We are very disappointed in what was delivered to us, we paid £9 each for a Buddha Bowl. For the portion we received (a small pot about 10cm high) £9 is extortionate. The pot wasn’t even full and we received mainly just leaves and not many grains or chickpeas etc… I don’t know how it can be called a Buddha Bowl as we received so little food and were both left hungry afterwards. The £9 price tag is what was really disappointing as we are students so money is tight and we were both shocked when we saw what arrived.

Had a lovely coffee and brunch here. Had the corn and zucchini fritters with beetroot hummus and really enjoyed it. Really cute little hidden gem.

Changed my route this morning to come via S&S for a caffeine fix pre work. Bingo - goal achieved. As always friendly staff. Very clean. Lots of treats on offer on the counter. Hand sanitizer. Cannot wait to come back when we can sit inside

Stopped off for quick breakfast having not read any reviews beforehand. Such a pleasant surprise, food was beautifully presented, hot and seasoned/spiced just right.

Overall very poor. We arrived and sat downstairs which wasnt particularly pleasant. I appreciate it's very small place so I understand they dont have alot of space to work with but downstairs had no windows and quite loud music so felt even more claustrophobic. However its nicely decorated and it's the best that they can make it downstairs I guess. We were forgotten about downstairs so had to go upstairs ourselves and ask to be served. Then when our drinks came they forgot the milk and sugar for the coffee. Finally breakfast. 1 was Avocardo on toast with a poached egg - the toast was burnt and the egg had a few pieces of shell on. For a very simple breakfast meal in a place that specialises in breakfasts I dont expect burnt toast or shell. Other breakfast was delicious. Finally on paying the bill the shell was mentioned and got brushed off by the server that it seems to be part of eggs? Like being over poached? Plus side very aesthetically pleasing to look at

Short and Stout used to be my favourite breakfast place in Chester! However after my last visit, I will not be visiting again. I ordered poached eggs on toast, when it arrived my poached eggs were so hard they looked like they’d been forgotten about in the pan! I told the waitress that they were too hard and they made me some more. Yet, when I got my fresh eggs, they had just put them back on my original plate with my now very cold toast with the other eggs scraped off. Amongst the avocado I then found a hair in my food. I politely showed the waitress and pointed out that it was not my hair as I have very long hair. She then shrugged and said ‘oh sorry’ and walked off. When we got up to pay the lady who owns Short and Stout served us, and offered us no apology at all, in-fact she made no reference to the incident. She was aware of the hair as I watched the waitress tell her. I wasn’t expecting my meal to be taken off as I’m aware of the current climate. But a sincere apology would of been nice. After that, I will no longer be visiting Short and Stout.

Heard good things about this place, so decided to visit for a brunch. The staff were friendly enough, but not overly impressed with the food. One of us had pancakes, and although nicely presented, they were dry. The Huevos rancheros were very disappointing. The temperature of the food was not great, and only one egg??The salsa was way too bland - needed chillis through it, or at least provide a bottle of hot sauce. We always try and support local independent businesses, but as the bill came to around £40, I think it’s too expensive for regular visits.

Warmly welcomed, lovely options on the menu, very well presented and so tasty. Also a little bit different! Maybe slightly pricey but very good quality ingredients.

Tucked away slightly off the beaten track, this tiny cafe in a corner is well worth a visit. Light and very tasty food. We had the sobrasa eggs and the chipotle beans . Both tasted amazing.

Recently moved to the area and the Coffee and Food here are as good as anything I've had in the North west. Staff are so friendly and helpful as well.

Had a delicious coffee and breakfast board (with extra egg) here this morning. Lovely atmosphere, buzzing with people. Will have to visit again to try the pancakes! Only difficulty was parking as you can only park outside for 30mins and we saw a traffic warden patrolling, so we parked over near lightfoot street instead and walked.

Lovely place to eat, food cooked from fresh and I feel Is excellent value for money. Staff always polite and very courteous. A credit to the cafe. Menu is nice but limited. Spaces inside also limited so you must be quick as it packs out quickly. Easy 5 out of 5.

Only popped in for a takeaway latte. Bumped into an ex work colleague. And ended up staying for over an hour catching up. Serve great tasting coffee in a very laid back coffee shop. Food looked nice so next time I will be having a bite to eat too. If your passing go in have a nice coffee and a chill out . Highly recommended.

Absolutely lovely place. A must visit if you're the type that loves healthy brunches in a modern setting and at a fair price. This will become my regular weekend brunch place for sure! Also a lot of vegan and vegetarian options!!

Really great staff and excellent food. Will start to use as my local now that I have discovered it. We only had time to have coffee and cake as it closes at 2pm on a Sunday but the way the staff dealt with telling us was first class. No feeling of being a problem. Coffee was excellent.

Short & Stout have achieved something really rare here. The coffee was outstanding - The espresso was packed full of flavour, smooth with no bitter taste. Followed up with a flat white, again perfectly balanced. Not sure if it was the barista or the bean but hats off. Its the kinda of coffee you drink & cant wait to tell other coffee lovers about. Tried a couple of items on the menu(granola,avocado toast, tomato toast & pancakes) all extremely tasty. The highlights where the pancakes, thick but not stodgy the crispy bacon was cooked perfectly. Service friendly & welcoming Thanks for a great breakfast.

This is my new local Cafe and it is lovely!! Great for a coffee or a tasty brunch!! Will be bringing my friends here when they come to visit. Can get very busy so be wary of that, and I can see why!!
