Visit this restaurant twice while on business trip in Birmingham. First time for Tepan which was delicious. Second time for just some sushi which was ok. Atmosphere nothing special, on pricy side of things but food itself pretty nice.

Having not been to this type of dining experience for a few years (hot plate, food cooked in front of you) I was looking forward to the evening and the welcome and seating was quick and efficient, drinks ordered and served quickly and accurately. The hot plates are arranged back to back, with chefs in the middle and customers seated around the other 3 sides. We had a group of 8 and a similar sized group on the adjoining table, leaving about 8 seats along one side. Two couples joined the groups, seated on the one side, but were totally ignored as our two groups were served quickly with some excellent food cooked in front of us. The two couples left without eating, looking thoroughly miserable whilst we had some good food ( although the rice, served up first for all courses was stone cold by the time we got on to the later portions. All in all an enjoyable night for our group, but thoroughly miserable for the couples that joined us.

Neither I nor my son had done a Teppan-Yaki before. The experience here was excellent. Despite us being the only ones in the restaurant the chef went through his complete show which was impressive. My son had never used chop sticks before and the receptionist showed great patience in offering to try and demonstrate how to use them. The food was plentiful and flavoursome. The drinks prices, as is usual with city centre restaurants, were high, but the deal we had made the meal a very reasonable price. We wanted to tip the chef who had cooked our meal and indicated this when giving the tip to the receptionist on the way out. It went straight into the tips jar. So if you want to tip the chef do it straight away when he takes his bow. There are tastes and presentations here that you don't get elsewhere. It's highly recommended and we'll revisit with wives in tow. We went midweek for an early lunch. If you like it quiet I'd recommend doing the same.

This place is so much fun. We took the kids and were fully entertained by the chefs. The food was perfect. We had lamb, chicken and beef. The service was excellent. We had our temperature taken on entrance and were asked to check in on the Covid app. All in all a fantastic place. We will be back!

The sushi was delicious and great value, about £18 per person for all you can eat sushi plus drinks. The staff were friendly and regularly cleared our empty plates away. We also wanted a particular type of sushi dish which we had only seen on the conveyor belt once, the staff were happy to arrange for the chefs to make a few of them and put them on the belt. Pleasantly surprised by the bill at the end, just shy of £100 for 4 people. Would definitely visit again.

Have been here three times, the best Japanese restaurant in the heart of Birmingham and the very best sushi is created by a Filipino chef. I have had many more make your teppanyaki. We ordered the set menu - it was mouthful, was exquisite,an exceptional experience.

I really enjoy eating at this place, so much that I came three times within 1 week (twice for dinner and once for the lunch time buffet). The lunch buffet of sushi and tempura is wonderful and excellent value - all you can eat for a fixed price. There is a good selection and it's never too crowded. The evening meals are great, I'd say it's best to be on a busy table as the atmosphere is better and they do more of a 'show' if that's what you like. They do tricks and show off their cooking skills whilst making an excellent meal before your eyes. It is a long wait for food if it's busy but it keeps you entertained and occupied that I have never felt overly hungry or fed up waiting when I watch them cook. The only thing I would say is that it is a little pricey for me, but it's a great treat for a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself.

We stayed at the AC hotel and this restaurant is outside the hotel in the connecting building. The chef does live cooking right in front of you at your table. The food is delicious and freshly made. The chef puts up a show and it is lots of fun to watch him cook

Appalling attitude from one of the staff this evening. 'Soy sauce sachet isn't free, we are giving only because we want to give' was exactly what I was told! As an Asian who know sushi culture more than that particular non-asian staff, please note that soy sauce and wasabi are part of a sushi meal. If getting some soy sauce would be so tricky I suggest Yo Sushi stop serving sushi altogether. If the area manager is looking at this, please check and educate your staff. N.b incident took place on Monday 28/10/24 around 9-930pm.

AVOID - had a booking for a friends 40th which we paid £70 deposit. They even called up the week before to check if still wanted booking. We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and it was all shut. Called number and chased our deposit numerous times and had no response. Turns out they closed in July due to a fire and must have been chancing it with our deposit. Shocking customer service!

Gluten free options in Yo sushi have got worse. This cuisine can easily be made gluten free yet instead they have reduced the number to minimal options. Yo sushi - sort it out! To make it worse, having been to other Yo Sushi’s where the managers do try to accommodate, the Yo Selfridges manager was annoyed by my requests and made it harder. Sadly my son loves the Katsu curry so have had to go from time to time. But today will be last visit.
