Ship Inn in Gwynedd

We booked for Sunday lunch and we're more than pleasantly surprised to be served a complimentary appetiser, which was unique and beautifully tasting. We opted for the chicken and beef for main courses - they were both delicious and plentiful. We shared an apple and blackberry crumble, which again was very generous and delicious ( we could not have managed 1 each!!) The host and staff were extremely friendly and professional making the whole experience very enjoyable. Compliments to the chef. If you are visiting Llanbedrog we would highly recommend you visiting the Ship. Many thanks.

Came across this by chance as we were looking for somewhere to eat. The place looks stunning very spacious and clean. No question over us having the dog with us so dogs are welcome even have a dog treat area. The place is one of the best we have been for all around greatness. The service and staff were so welcoming and friendly. Now the food, great prices great portions we had the steak and not one thing on the plate could we fault. I would definitely recommend and hats off to the staff and the fantastic chef.

Perfection. Myself husband kids and mother in law look forward to visiting this pub everytime we visit Wales. Every single dish we have ordered has been 10/10. My kids are picky and they ate every bit. Homemade chips are the highlight, portions are generous and it's proper comfort food. Gorgeous surroundings, cosy and comfty. Well done to you all 👌

Wow. The food is totally amazing, freshly cooked, hot, and so so tasty. Cannot fault it in any way. As it was Easter Sunday it was fully booked so it took an hour and a half to get our food, but was warned about this so for us it wasn't a big deal, had a chance for a drink and a chat before food. But once it arrived it was worth the wait. If we are in the area, we will definitely book and be back again.

Really cute pub with busy atmosphere, food looked amazing but they were fully booked for lunch. Good selection of board games available and well stocked bar! Garden would be gorgeous on a sunny day it was sadly raining when we visited.

We arrived for a family lunch on a random Truesday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., and we're greeted by the landlord. We ordered drinks and he then talked us through the food menu... and what a menu! All the expected dishes were there, as expected on a comprehensive menu, and a really decent specials offering to boot. I took the landlord's recommendation and ordered the duck breast from the specials menu, and do I not regret it! I am compelled to write this review because, without exception, this was the best pub grub I've ever eaten... literally bistro quality cookery and presentation, bit served in a beautiful pub with beer garden setting, and at pub prices! Duck breast, with mini Hassleback potatoes, leeks wrapped in bacon, steamed tenderstem broccoli and caramelised cranberry gravy, and change from £20. That's me in my happy place, and I will be back as often as possible. Whatever it is that you're currently doing at The Ship, don't go changing. You've hit the sweet spot for gastro pub dining!

Just been here for the first night of our holidays. Kids had fish and chips and chicken bites and chips. Grown ups had the pie, fish and gammon. The host was really polite and friendly. They were a bit short staffed but service was still excellent. Would definitely come again! We all agreed it was the nicest pub dinner we had had in a long time. Proper fresh pub food, and games and a play area for the kids too. :)

Surprised to hear that this is a Marston's pub. The food is not Marston's standard fare, it is an individualist menu and the quality is brilliant!! We ate there several times whilst on holiday in Llanbedrog and every dish was outstanding. Highly recommended. Only downside was that, as a real ale drinker, there wasn't any local Welsh cask ales on offer. Conclusion: a great traditional pub with brilliant food including numerous gluten free options . Well worth a visit!

Great Family pub. Guy running it engages with the kids. Games to play all over the place (including an original 80's Sace Invader machine!) Fresh, resteraunt quality food. We will be back.

Tried the steak night on Thursday, disappointed with meal as steak gristle and fatty, chips were very greasy. Not what was expected. Service was very good and bottle of wine was a bonus. Would not order this again.

Great food and a good pint of Guinness. Friendly and welcoming, went there twice whilst staying in Abersoch.

We visited the Ship last week for an evening meal. The food was lovely, the food was all homemade which made it so much better & we could not fault anything. The staff were absolutely wonderful, very helpful & nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back again soon.

The hospitality and service are absolutely first class. The menu has something for every one and the food is excellent, generous portions of home cooked pub grub.

Called in with our 7 year old son for some dinner as we were staying near by. The staff were friendly and really attentive. The food was first class. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic food and a very family friendly atmosphere. The team were so accommodating and helpful and the delivery of board games to the table was a brilliant touch and a big hit with our girls. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. Well worth a visit and we would highly recommend.

We stayed in Llanbedrog for a long weekend and went to Y Llong for evening meal. It's a lovely pub with a good atmosphere. The service was first class; the owner was excellent with our granddaughter, bringing pub games for her to play, and taking the time to talk to her and make her feel welcome. The food was delicious. Honestly if this is your local pub, you are so lucky!! We popped in this evening in the hope of finding a lovely cosy pub with great food (that was open, a difficult thing to find this time of year). And what a find!! Such a warm welcome when we entered, the owner, absolutely amazing, friendly, welcoming and chatty even though he was rushed off his feet. Dog friendly around the whole pub which was amazing, the pub itself was warm, cosy, clean and with a beach theme, which is my favourite....and the food! I tip my hat to the chef, absolutely amazing, beautiful homemade pizzas, massive portions, the tastiest homemade chips I've had in years and proper onion rings! If this was my local, i would be in every day. We will definitely return next time we are in the area! And to the owner, you're doing amazing after only a year and I hope the Calzone queen is on the mend 😊

Spent two fabulous evenings at The Ship. The moment you walk in you know you have made the right choice. Lovely warm and cosy atmosphere. Amazing food and outstanding service. The landlord is a lovely guy as are Leila & Livy who served us. An absolute must if you are visiting this part of Wales. We will definitely return especially as they allow dogs as well

Best dog friendly pub we’ve ever ate in. The owners and staffs hospitality was phenomenal. Lovely cosy atmosphere to go along side great tasting home made pub food. Reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend to anyone holidaying in the area. Great place to unwind in the evening after an afternoon beach walk. Rib eye steak along with an unusual but extremely tasty corn soup were particular highlights.

Food was amazing and so well presented. Been back a few times. Staff were all very welcoming and great service. Looking forward to going to going back there in the summer when weather better so we can sit outside in the beer garden.

We’ve had 3 great meals here over Xmas and new year 2024/5. Fantastic setup for families, lots of board games actively encouraged by the owner. He made a real effort to engage with the children and us. He went out of his way to accommodate us and spent time talking to us on New Year’s Eve. We felt extremely welcome and we would say this is the best pub in Wales. Scott, Jenna, Thomas, Ella and Eva the dog, who was happily accommodated. There is a good selection of ales and gins.

We had a fantastic experience at The Ship Inn in Llanbedrog. We spent New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day at the pub. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The owner went above and beyond to ensure we had a great visit, making us feel right at home. This pub truly caters to everyone – even dogs are welcome, which is always a bonus. Our children loved the variety of games available, keeping them entertained throughout the meal. It’s a perfect spot for families, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. If we find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely be returning. Thank you for such a memorable visit!

We had a fantastic meal here on Friday evening. The waitress was lovely and very efficient. We all had different meals, including some from the special Friday night International menu which on this occasion was Polish. Everything was fabulous.

Excellent dog friendly pub with lovely atmosphere serving superb food! The food is fresh and the portions are very generous. The fish and chips were the best we’ve eaten and they also do takeaway. Would definitely recommend a visit!

I popped in for lunch. My self and 3 others. To enjoy their hospitality. Nice food and present service. Well, it's worth a visit if you're passing. There's also a nice bear garden, and with it being dog friendly, those with a dog didn't miss out.

Great place to take the family! Customer service solid 10/10 food was delicious! Plus they have a variety of fun board games to enjoy with the whole family! Highly recommend this establishment! Super friendly environment very welcoming!!

We chose to visit this pub after reading several good reviews, and we weren’t disappointed, in fact, it was better than we could have expected. The staff were beyond helpful and kind. They were attentive, provided games and tried really hard to ensure our 4 year old had a great time. We had the Sunday dinners and sea bass, it was delicious, even for a very hard to please husband! We will definitely be back on our next holiday! Thank you!

We have been going to llanbedrog for near on forty years and the ship has always been associated with our trips to llanbedrog and abersoch. Even though the pub has changed ownership many times it still offers a warm welcome. The food on offer is extremely good quality and value for money. It can get very very busy in peak season, but we would recommend a visit.

I always have to visit here when coming to Llanbedrog, purely because the food is excellent! I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal (visited about 5 times now). Last night I had the Mac and Cheese Bon Bon’s for starter which were just delightful, followed by the Minted Lamb Burger for my main after recommendation, I don’t normally go for burgers in a restaurant but I am so glad I did, so tasty! you cannot beat their real chips too!. Already looking forward to my next visit, Reggie (the dog) and I are always made to feel welcome.

Menu at first looks really good, I ordered classis burger with extra bacn and was shocked when my meal arrived with full of fat breakfast light cooked bacon with chewy burger, burned lettuce and burned but cold bun...when pointed to the waitress she took it away...but no question asked...I was not sure if left with no dinner or comming back one...aftet 10min same dish arrived with same bacon cooked slithly more but with cold and chewy bureger and rest of the dinner. When asked main waiter to take my plate after another 10min waiting- (gentleman with white bird), - I had very cold responce and feeling of unwelcome...my partner finished his dinner he liked and was left hungry with unwelcome feeling.....

Having no luck in Pwllheli finding somewhere to eat we drove out towards Abersoch and followed a brown sign simply saying 'ship inn🍴'. We eventually came to it and parked up. The young girl that waited on us was lovely. The food was also lovely considering they had a limited menu due to having no chef. Well done all. I would recommend this friendly, welcoming pub to all in the area.

Nice food. Clued up at gluten. Told me they had a separate fryer without even asking. Menu marked with gf a few options for celiacs. Chef will adapt if asked. Gluten free peroni available.

We were staying at The Willows, just up the road, so called in for lunch. Nice dog friendly pub, with large dining area and tables outside. We would have sat outside as had two dogs with us and one can be disruptive when food is served, however on the day we visited food was only being served indoors, so we left the noisy boy in the car. Excellent food. I had the sea bass and my husband had the minted lamb burger, both from the specials menu, and we both succumbed to dessert. Recommended! You would need to book if visiting in the evening.

My food was lovely. My friend's wasn't BUT the manager noticed she hadn't eaten it, apologised, offered an alternative & didn't charge.

Food good and varied but the minted lamb burger was superb. Atmosphere friendly and inviting. Music good, staff accomodating and helpful. Just a really nice place to spend the evening.

Fabulous food. The Appetisers were a real treat when we took our table, sour dough bread with 3 different homemade butters, and 2 chutneys. Great service. All in all, it was a really enjoyable experience. Would definitely recommend it.

Unfortunately did we visit the Ship Inn not until the evening before we left the Pwllheli area to head back to Germany. The innkeeper and the staff made us immediately feel welcome, and they were really friendly and answered all our questions patiently. The menu is comparably extensive with a variety of really great dishes. For the first time in two weeks (!), all of us - even the children - were really happy with their choice of starters and the main courses. Our compliments to the chef! If it weren''t for a 16 hour trip, we would definitely come back again. Thank you! UPDATE: After three weeks in Wales, my family voted (almost unanimously) the Ship Inn to have served the best food of all pubs we visited during our stay. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Beautiful pub. The food was incredible, even my fussy eater son said it was the best pub dinner he ever had and ate everything. Owner was super friendly and very welcoming. Amazing place to go and will definitely be returning on our next holiday.

Loved this pub! Walking from your car you walk towards a very well kept and inviting beer garden with ample seating and wooden gazebos. There is a children's play area in the bottom corner and surprisingly a hot food snack van!! Then as you walk through the front door you are greeted with a selection of board games and quizzes to choose from! There is a great selection of drinks available and the food was fantastic (quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had!), all at reasonable prices! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. All in all a great little pub!

We visited The Ship Inn twice during our holiday in Llanbedrog. We were warmly welcomed both times and the service was excellent - very friendly and chatty staff with a relaxed atmosphere. They provided table top games for the family to play while waiting for food - this was an amazing bonus and the kids loved it as much as we did! The food was outstanding, cooked beautifully with large portion sizes. Thank you to the whole team!

Following an extended and damp walk, we visited the establishment with the intention of partaking in tea, only to discover that they were fully booked, which is understandable. Given the location and time of year, I should have anticipated this outcome. However, our bedraggled appearance, akin to that of "drowned rats," elicited sympathy, and a table was graciously made available to us. The subsequent food and service were exceptional. We savored the minted lamb burger, which undoubtedly ranks as the finest lamb burger I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. I express my sincere gratitude for the hospitality extended to us, which was greatly appreciated. In the future, we shall ensure to make advance reservations to avoid any inconvenience.

The Manager was very accommodating even though they were very busy. He managed to squeeze us in. The food was amazing will definitely returning.

I think we visited at a bad time...it appeared popular enough but there was a delay in food preparation, and no tea bags

Incredible food. Service can be a bit slow but I think this is because the kitchen is small and they want to avoid it being overwhelmed. Book in advance- there are only a few tables inside and they get booked up. If it's full, there is also 'the ship's cabin' outside which serves excellent loaded fries (with sausages, pie filling, scampi and more). We went nearly every day during our short stay in Llanbedrog.

Came for a Sunday lunch on a very hot day. Staff were polite and attentive without rushing us- it was a very relaxed and delicious meal. Lovely sourdough, butter and relish appetiser to keep us going through the menu and all courses were delicious. And dog friendly throughout. Such a nice pub we came back for a cold beer later in the beer garden (which also does a Dirty Fries + Choose your topping menu). Definitely recommend and will come back when we’re staying next time.

Lovely place and friendly staff but I thought it was a bit expensive for a cheese and onion brown bread sandwich few chips and side salad with a dressing on I didn't touch and a soda water and blackcurrant Cost £12.70 won't be lunching in there again sorry.

Walked in, very accommodating, good beer selection on tap. Meal was excellent with a nice selection of wine. Met Mike the bar manager, great guy. All staff very friendly. Totally recommend for a good time....

Turned up like total lemons on Sat eve in peak season with no reservations and obvs they were totally full, but owner was surprisingly remorseful that we couldn’t get fed and along with other staff kindly helped us find food elsewhere and so we booked there and then to come back Monday. Enjoyed an enormous and very tasty pizza plus a good steak and a veggie dish. Great place and will probs be back again later this week. Ignore the negative reviews, prices are reasonable for food and drink and owner is working crazy hard but still friendly and welcoming. Just make sure you book coz it’s crazy popular and fully booked every night.

Come on guys, to have no panini or baguettes at lunch time is a farce. Then to be told we can do it on white or brown bread isn’t up to scratch, then to over hear that there was baguettes available for another customer doesn’t cut the mustard… It’s summer holidays on a Saturday Please get this sorted 👎🏻

4 times we have now driven out to this place. Ok the first time was before 12 so that was our fault. 2nd time shut notice on door staff issues closed, 3rd time we went after 12 closed sign saying 12.30 opening. Just been again and now sign say closed electrical fault. So we certainly won’t be returning for a 5th time that’s for sure. And I guess you need to update in google your exact opening times!

Great pub serving a good range of traditional type meals plus good pizzas. Lovely staff. Very accommodating when we arrived bedraggled from the rain with two wet children after the half hour walk up from the beach. Also, I must mention the games. They have a formidable games shelf with I think more games than I've ever seen in any pub. We could happily have bunkered down for a few hours given the chance.
