Absolute Gem 💎 of a place. Homemade Nachos were amazing! We had the nachos, hummus to start and then foot long burrito with the mushroom burger (so tasty) .. couldn’t eat it all! Portions were very generous. Food was outstanding, staff were attentive and very friendly Would definitely recommend.. we will go back when we are next in the area

incredible vegan food in a beautiful atmosphere

Enjoyed our visit. The ambience was relaxed and cosy and the team friendly and attentive (not overly so). Service was pretty snappy although it was quite a quiet midweek evening. The Quarryman was very good by all accounts and my Happy Buddha (with gerby toasties rather than sweet potato) was feel-good yummy (and deceptively filling). My Chengdu Tofu to start was great too. The other starter was Jamaican Buffalo Wings which promised "hot and tangy". The hot and tangy were missing however and the dressing was overly sweet. It really needed that chilli and some vinegar or tamarind. The cauliflower was spot on tho'. The only real negative for me was the wine. The choice is very limited (sauvignon blanc or merlot) which is ok in itself but folks .... really .... Oxford Landing at a ginormous mark up (check out the price in Co-op or Tesco Express). Definite room for a quick win there. That out of the way and I would certainly go eat at Voltaire again. Nice to have a good Veg/Vegan option in town.

Oh wow! I overcommitted by ordering lots of small plates, which weren’t so small when they arrived. Food was excellent quality & super tasty. We’ll definitely return.

Been twice so far and we enjoyed both meals. Lovey atmosphere, reasonable prices and big portions. Service was good. We enjoyed a drink before the meal both times and we will be back again for sure. The food here is so good!

Delicious vegan menu, calm vibes and lovely owner

Lovely vegan restaurant in Bangor. The staff were lovely, the ambiance was cozy and the food was good. I had the Desperado burger which was stuffed with a patty, salsa, jalapeños and chili and came alongside fries and a salad - it was a filling meal! My partner had the Quarryman pie with peas and chips, which was yummy. Our only criticism was that the meals lacked salt; other than that, it was delicious. The ambiance of the place was very cozy - it was lit up by many strung up lights, and loads of candles and pillar candles lit around the area. I’d recommend booking ahead of time if you’d like to visit, as it does get full quite quickly.

Loved the quirky decor and we sat for a drink first and had some ‘small plates’ as we were early and peckish. The cauliflower dish was delicious. The sauce was mostly sweet chilli sauce but we shared it and the hummus dish. Good falafels. For mains later in the evening we had Buddha salads. Good but shoold offer more fresh dressings and not just mayo or ketchup I feel. Clean toilet and nice atmosphere despite being quiet. Would visit again for tapas.

One word: STUFFED! That’s how we ended up last night. What a great meal, omg! I am not a vegan but one of our friends is, so we were a party of 4 and only one of us vegan. The non vegan ones enjoyed our meals so much and our vegan friend was lost in the menu with so much option, which she’s not used to at a normal restaurant. Happy? Yes. Are we coming back? HELL YES! Great little vegan restaurant. We had the Sunday lunch and it was the best I have ever tasted! It was a full plate of chickn and various veggies and Yorkshire pudding. The smores sundae was also pretty excellent.

The atmosphere is so lovely and cosy! As Mancunians we appreciated being able to eat vegetarian food affordably for a change, though drinks and desserts naturally cause the bill to mount!

Voltaire proves that vegan food can be fun. Quirky decor that works brilliantly, friendly staff, tasty imaginative food. The hardest thing was deciding what not to have. A must visit if you're in Bangor.

Waste of money/time. We came all the way from Southampton for a holiday to visit North Wales. As vegans we try to choose our eating out places only vegan restaurants to support them. However we were so disappointed this time. Lets start from the toilet…OMG it smells disgusting, no button on the flash/no toilet roll holder, (is it too expensive to fix!?)baby changing matt touches on the dirty floor.(get at least the portable ones that you can pull out from the wall, doesnt take much space). The food menu wasnt expected… as in the Google Review shows the one from 2 years ago so we planned to choose from that menu but the waitress said they change in every season, however we figure it out something to order. The Beast ( not tasty too greasy) Creamy garlic Mushroom, came with the big chipped plate( no garlic taste at all, mushrooms were soggy) V Calamari ( just about okay) Dirty fries(frozen chips, frozen cheese-it wasnt even melted- added some sauces and couple of jalapeños on top, doesnt worth £5.75) We were planning to have some desserts and take some to home but from all disappointments I had half of my dirty fries and wanted to leave as early as possible. Oh also we had a little one so we asked for a high chair. It was dirty and sticky, probably not even cleaned for ages. So I ended up cleaning. We had cocktail and bottled beer. Cocktail arrived pre-spilt, taste was good. Service was fast and the waitress was nice. We spent £50… out of all I strongly NOT RECOMMEND this place. Update-9.8.23 After this review they sent a msg to us saying, why did you leave bad review, ahaha is that a joke! There were facts needed to be point out! so you do better for the next customers instead of arguing…

Cute atmosphere but unfortunately the food was bad. Soggy frozen fries, bland mushy burger, rice bowl soaking in sauce.

Lovely little place, quiet and can smell the seaside pleasantly breezing through the door, food was excellent, home made mayonnaise and would love to have that recipe, 59 yards from the pier.

I visited with my friend and we were seated on a table at the back. The setting is quirky and a nice vibe. The table we had was a little sticky due to it needing a good sanding and repainting. There were some flies around which were a little annoying. We had a cocktail and a merlot which was very nice. Our server took our drinks order but was very slow coming back to us to take our food order. We ordered about 5 or 6 small plates for the deal. The tofu was delicious! Would recommend. The jerk cauli wings were nice in texture but essentially had the same sauce as the sweet chilli dip for the zucchini. It wasn’t jerk maybe it had a little citrus in it? There was a mayo dip which was a bit bland. It took a long time for them to come and take our plates and get the bill to us. We had a reasonably nice time because we could chat to one another. I think we would go back and hope to try the other bits on the menu

It's a real shame. Such potential impacted by quality and service. Over an hour, wait without attention from arrival to delivery of food in an uncomfortable spot after a booking muddle not managed well. Speciality burgers were reported as standard but my dish was very nice indeed. Mocktail not much cop. Price pretty cheap. Atmosphere excellent. .... We booked via telephone. Upon arrival, a group before us were having a difficult conversation as there was no evidence of their booking. They were allocated the only remaining family table. We stepped forward to be told our booked table for which there was evidence of having been made was just taken by the people before us and can we sit at this mall corner table for two a d have two chairs pulled up from.oitside. We complied. It was difficult and uncomfortable though. After about a 16min wait at the table, the service arrived despite not being really busy. We ordered. Drinks arrived promptly. The non alchoholic mohito was lemonaid with some mint leaves. I had to crush my leves myself just to get an alternative flavour to lemonaid. After about a further 40 mins I had to get up fromntable and enquired whether we had been forgotten. The staff had spent the whole time chatting at the bar. It looked like every table onnthe floor was waiting g. I was apologetically told there was a very small kitchen and it would be soon. A trip to the communal toilet revealed a poorly maintained cistern with an easynrepair ifnored and generally pub like experiance. Shortly after our cutlery was delivered. the placings for all 4 of us was deposited in one plie and left for us to sort out.. After a further 15 minnwait without any attention from the staff, we were discussing abandoning when the food arrived. I've never walked out of a place before to give you an idea of the frustration of wait combined with being ignored. It was good food. Not great overall, but good. Not worth the wait. The entire.time.the ambience was good with good choice of music, but it did rigger overload for myndaughter due to the volume and going over the edge of hungry. We left as soon as we finished the main not wa ting to linger. Shame... amateurish service ruined what could have been an inexpensive and pleasant evening.

Voltaire has an extensive, varied menu but as I was only in Bangor for a short time and this place is only open 3 days a week, I only got to try one main course. I settled on a "Jackie Chan", which was a burrito filled with V-steak and salad. It came with chips, coleslaw and more salad. The V-steak was very tasty and I would love to have tried their V-chicken as well. But even better was the side-dish, Creamy Garlic Mushrooms - this came with garlic bread which was a great combination if you like garlic, as I do.

We went for dinner for two, and decided on sharing four small plates. They were all very good. The ambiance, the music, and the service were all good. And the bill very modest. Would recommend!

Both service and food were absolutely incredible. We've not had vegan food like here before, it was absolutely divine and can tell why it has such a good reputation. We tried a burger and the beast platter so we could try as much off the menu as possible and we're gutted we weren't around for longer to come back. We can't wait to come back to Bangor.... Probably just to come back here! Thank you for hosting one of the best meals we've ever had!

My partner and I came here straight off the ferry and starving after a day of travelling. When we got there the staff informed us they were fully booked but were so lovely to let us take the table outside and that they would serve us anyway! They were so accommodating and friendly, the food was beyond delicious with so many options :) great for vegans and non vegans

Had our dinner at voltaire and it was great! We hadnt booked a table but they manage to squeeze us in anyway. Waited not longer than 10-15 minutes for our food to come out after ordering. The food was very tasty and portion sizes very good for the price. Staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend, we will be going back again. 😀

Really loved this place as a meat eater I was a little sceptical. However no need to be food was really beyond meat ever could be. It was an entire taste explotion my taste buds are tingling just thinking of there squid rings and buffalo wings. Yum yum 😋

Great to find somewhere that had exclusively vegan options. Plenty of variety on the menu so should be something for everyone. The portions are absolutely huge which meant we ended up leaving some of our meals - unless you have a really big appetite you could definitely share some of the meals. The service could have been better, we had to ask for water for a few times before we got it but the actual restaurant setting itself is lovely and intimate (it got very busy very quickly when we were there so definitely book). All in all would recommend it as worth a try if you’re in the area!

Great vegetarian/ vegan restaurant. Absolutely lovely inside as well as its location in Bangor. Since I arrived a few months ago I always wanted to go in there and finally made it. We took "the cosy firewood" and "Buddha something" as mains and had two glasses of wine with it. Absolutely delicious taste and very filling. The mashed potato and onion gravy were spot on. Cannot wait to be back! Service was very friendly and attentive.

Fantastic, hearty and tasty food!

Voltaire is a vegan restaurant located very close to the promenade in Bangor. We are not vegan ourselves but we were impressed with the food. We had the Jamaican buffalo wings which were cauliflower florets coated in a sweet and sticky sauce - absolutely amazing and moreish. Our mains were vegan sausages and mash with an onion gravy. This was also delicious and the portion was generous. The service was friendly and there is a quaint decor which adds to the cosy atmosphere.

Genuinely the best vegan fast food ever created. The lady who runs it is so so lovely and makes good vegan donuts. You WILL NOT be disappointed. Especially compared with some of the other dining experiences in Bangor.

Food came out cold, long wait. Booked table for 5.30pm but they did not open until 5.45pm, left us waiting outside in the rain. Service was slow. No coffee beans on a Saturday night. Food was not very tasty. Had to wait for manager to return from errand in order to pay. Not great, maybe an off night as my friends rave about this place.

I don't think I have ever had such a beautiful experience in a restaurant! Myself and a couple of friends visited Wales for a short holiday, stumbling across 'Coco Vanille' we met the absolutely stunning owner of the Voltaire. I honestly believe that she is the kindest soul I have ever met, the customer service alone made us fall in love with this hidden gem. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was just what we needed after hiking around snowdonia! We will be back, everytime we visit Snowdonia! Honestly thank you so much for making the end of our holiday such a special memory Xx

Went here for our anniversary meal, Food was fantastic complements to the chefs, it was well presented with amazing choice. only thing that let it down for us was the service. sat with dirty plates after our starter. only moved when main arrived so no cutlery. then left with dirty plates until dessert time. it was a shame. it let it down. no it wasnt busy, staff were chatting more than clearing!

Food was great. Service could have been better. Friendly enough but left finished plates for ages. And the two girls behind the counter had enough time to chat, but not to clear dishes away. A shame cos it's a nice place.

Disappointed that when I called in at 820pm on a Friday night they'd stopped serving food. What I did see looked lovely though. I'd only just spent the last 5hrs travelling from Chepstow and this was the place I wanted to go to for an evening meal before heading back in the morning as well. ☹

Delicious. Veg in tempura batter for a starter and for the main the Voltaire burger topped with creamy garlic mushrooms. The side of mayo was really creamy, not vinegary like so many are. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere.

This beautiful little vegan restaurant is an absolute blinder ... I didn't have to wait long at all and what came was deliciously fresh, well prepared and delivered by friendly happy staff.... the atmosphere was buzzing too.. top marks. Can't say no more.

Very disappointing management, staff and organization. This places works with bookings, we went there without a booking as this was mentioned no where at all. We got in, no one talked to us or even asked us then we decided to have a seat, after 20 minutes a lady came to us and said we need a booking. We were simply asked to leave without even trying to find us a table for 2 to eat something quickly and leave. This was disrespectful, annoying and not professional. Staff rating 0. The place was tiny but beautiful. The food, have no idea as we were disrespectfully asked to leave.

Relaxed ambience (felt like I was on a holiday abroad), great choices, portion and great quality vegan food! Personal preference is to be a little less salty for the tofu dish but still amazing! V calamari - tastes the same or better without hurting anyone!! Service was warm and fantastic - especially the helpful lady in making sure we had enough food. Environmentally friend use of atraw and takeaway box. Looking forward to visiting again!

From walking in, I loved the place. The design and the music was lovely. The staff were inviting and friendly, gave you all the time you needed to make your food and drink choices. As for the food..... amazing. Full of flavour and the portion sizes are plentiful. I had 'the beast' and it did not disappoint. If I could give it more stars i would!! Will definitely be back!

Visited for Sunday lunch. Wanted to love this place as its a fully vegan independent restaurant but in all honesty found the Sunday dinner very bland. The whole meal lacked seasoning. Such a shame as it looked lovely but just tasted of nothing. Broccoli was super undercooked too, was rock hard! Also gravy far too watery, which again resulted in no taste! Roast potatoes where more like boiled and flashed in the oven for 5 minutes! No actual Sunday menu either, just told what main you can have with your vegetables! Could be made alot better! Had many vegan Sunday roasts in past (from other vegan restaurants) that come with all the trimmings and condiments! This was just a very bland standard dinner with no flavour and zero wow factor.. which I personally think with a good Sunday roast you want! If this was a first experience for a non vegan I feel it would of put them off and would make them think that all vegan food is tasteless which is not true!! Other reviews I've seen are great, I wish we had maybe visited a different day and gone for a burger or somthing else maybe then we wouldn't of been disappointed! Good luck to these guys though and I hope it was praps a bad one off day and usually your Sunday dinners are packed with flavour!!! Probably won't visit again as its very out the way for us to travel especially if the food is not great again 😕
